    I did a similar project on a ez go cart. And I found that you have too line the primary and driven clutch back plates with each other to get the belt to run even thru the whole rpm range. Not the centers. I did it the same way and noticed that the belt was running at a slight angle when the motor was revving. Yours might not do that. But after shifting the motor over to line the back of the clutches up it ran true throughout the whole rpm range. Great job bro! You made it look a lot easier than mine went. Lol

    Hi the way my ezgo is set up from the factory is the belt isn't tight!
    So you half to give it some gas an it makes the belt right and goes!
    I think you putting the belt all the way tight is the problem.

    I had to install a transmission to add reverse and neutral.
    Turned down the idle to a low rpm in order to shift from forward to neutral and reverse smoothly.

    what all extra did you have to buy besides the motor for this to work? I can't seem to find any type of parts list anywhere from these builds people have done. Thanks!!

    This is good information. I am wanting to build a small boat and I need a reverse. I am considering a 2 cylinder engine for smoothness. Singles just vibrate so much.

    That's awesome! Just seeing this frame it brings back such memories! Back when I was 14 I had a almost brand new Yamaha golf cart.
    Those clutches have pucks for weight. You can easily remove some weight off each one to increase your stall speed of the clutch. JUST make sure you remove the same amount off each one. A digital scale works the best for accuracy! Hope that helps?

  • @watahyahknow
    @watahyahknow 3 года назад +2

    think you need to align the motor side to that side of the rear pulley , those sides are mounted solid the other sides move in and out
    wat you could do to have the clutch engage at a higher rpm is change the springs in the clutch part of it (thats the part that causes the engagement and slippage the belt and pulley just transfer the power )
    ruclips.net/video/-8ymMBnfR84/видео.html&ab_channel=KartFab
    as for checking if the belt hits the frame , just tape a strip of paper to go under the belt and over the frame somewat tight (no tape over the part you suspect the belt to hit ) and take it for a drive , if the paper is blackened or torn off at the end of the trip the belt is hitting the frame if the belt is trowwing pieces of rubber off you might want to tension it a bit more , it seems awefully loose the way you mounted it

      Well, i just uploaded a new vid where i tuned the clutch. Spoiler alert, I’ve since then bought a comet 780, which is specifically designed for this application. As far as using an engine with e start, that would be way easier. But from what i read, most of them only have a 3 amp charging system, which is ok to maintain the battery and MAYBE run a few lights. Personally, I’m planning on using a golf cart starter/generator, which will not only give me e start but charge the battery at 15 amps for front and rear lights, as well as a radio with a speaker or two.

    Watch the bolt holding the clutch on....not running true...loose bolt?...bent crankshaft?.... you can remove some weights from inside the clutch so it don't engage so soon.....ski do clutch...you would have to add weights.

    • @BackRoadBomber
      @BackRoadBomber  2 года назад

      Depends on your skill level and access to tools. You could get a 4 wheeled parts cart and graft the front end on, you could use go kart parts like a arms and steering and all that jazz, you could find an old four wheeler and use parts from that. It’s a lot of fabrication. Most people will tell you just to sell it and buy a 4 wheeled cart, but if you can get donor parts for cheap it would be worth it.

      @BackRoadBomber  2 года назад

      I got an adapter that’s 3/4” inside and 1” tapered outside. I didn’t make the shaft any longer. A narrower belt may keep it from engaging too early, but both clutches are designed for this width so i wouldn’t get the full gear ratios.

      @@2001gwmc the rear axle is from an ezgo so it would have forward and reverse, with the stock ezgo clutch. The drive clutch is a knock off replacement for the gas version of the g1, but I’ve since purchased a comet 780 as the drive clutch, since this one still engaged way too soon.

      @@BackRoadBomber Thanks for communicating with me. I'm new at this. I'm an old guy (76) and just needed a project to keep me busy. Today I received a drive clutch from Amazon. The brand name is VEVOR. After taking the cover off it appears to be identical to the one in your video. I now understand about the 3/4" to 1" adapter. I have looked at them online. Do you use a key in the slot on the shaft or does compression/pressure old it tight on the shaft? Also, the bolt that came with the clutch is way too big so I guess I need to get a bolt the correct size and length for the predator engine.
      I have a 1996 Yamaha G14. I only have the frame (no body). I do have forward & reverse on the rear end. With the torque converter and chain set up I got 15 mph. That's fast enough for me but I wanted to try the direct belt set-up like in your video.

      @@BackRoadBomber I received the tapered shaft adapter. It did not come with a "key". Does it require a key in the slot? It seems like it would take a special key that has a step-down to it (one size for the engine shaft stepped down to a smaller size for the adapter).
