I was 11-12 years old when I first discovered this band in the very early 90s (92/93 somewhere in there). Had a paper route (back when kids could do that) and bought every album that existed at the time and every VHS live concert available. This song since I first heard it when I bought this album is tied with another song (Prodigal Son from the album before this one) as my favorite Iron Maiden song. I didn't get to see them perform it live until I was nearly 40 and not only was it worth the wait I nearly cried in pure joy when I heard those bell tolls. Instantly took me back to my youth hearing it for the first time all those years ago.
It brings me great happiness seeing generations after me experiencing Maiden for the first time and seeing how much you're enjoying it. This stuff is timeless and generations after you who are just little kids now or not even born yet will experience it for the first time and enjoy it as much as you and I have and that is just an amazing and beautiful thing.
I'm sitting here laughing at all the smiling this song brought on for the two of you. Love to see it! Maiden is probably the single most respected band in metal. True statesmen, they have represented metal since they began, and they've done it well. I'd love to request The Clansman* from their Rock in Rio 2001 performance. Recorded just days after 9/11 the energy of the song, band, and crowd is electric.
*Not what you might think, it's about the Scottish resisting British tyranny. Think Braveheart. FREEEEEDOM! Peace.
was about to say the same thing. when people listen to songs i enjoy and i see them smile and physically enjoy the music, it makes me so happy
From a Scot I vote yes! Scotland forever 🏴! 😁
Rock in Rio 2001 was in january, 8 months before the 9/11. But i totally agree with the performance, i would say that its the best Maiden live performance.
Thank you, im gonna go watch that live right after this reaction. I don’t remember if I’ve seen that one. The one after 911 🇺🇸♥️🎼🎶🎤🎸🎸🎸🥁🎵
Haven't heard much of this band, but liking this sound alot.👍👍🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁🥁
Iron Maiden are arguably one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
Every time you do an Iron Maiden reaction make sure is a live version. Maiden is a live band.
totally
Any genre !!
Fact
absolutely
Check out any of their live concerts. Always impressive performances. From Rock in Rio for example. "Fear of the Dark". Or "Sign of the cross".. has a lot of nice quitar solos.
Flight 666 is a great and somewhat recent documentary, if you've got a couple hours. Their worldwide fandom
is mind blowing and heartwarming at times 🤘
UP THE IRONS 🤘 now try ALEXANDER THE GREAT and RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU AND YOUR GIRL GO SEE IRON MAIDEN IN CONCERT THIS YEAR. THEY ARE STARTING THE USA TOUR SOON
They also coming to Florida
@@michaelle8384 UP THE IRONS 🤘
Agreed! I honestly think everybody should see them at least once, if possible.
Greatest Metal band of all.
Bruce Dickinson has horse lungs, he’ll hit a note and you can go grab a sandwich and he’ll still be holding that note when you get back.
This show was recorded at Hammersmith in London 20th March 1982. The album this track is on (Number of the Beast) was released 2 days later. Unless any of the crowd had been to one of the previous shows of this tour, it was the first time they'd heard this song. It was only recorded in the January/February 82 for the album. This performance was as new to the band as it was to their fans. Its still by far the best live version in my opinion.
Yep. Bruce's live vocal performance in the 80's gradually goes downhill after this recording. Now I don't know anything about singing but even as a pleb I can notice a huge difference between the performance here and the ones in _Live After Death_ and _Maiden England._
The one and only Clive Burr on drums, he was a beast - RIP 🙏
Yes, the first two albums should be listened to just for the drumming alone. He was ahead of his time.
Wait Nicko McBrain wasn’t the original clubber?
@@krakenhawkstratdude204 no, Clive Burr was and he was ahead of his time. No one else was a better metal drummer at that time imo. Check out their first two albums and just listen to the drumming. For 1980 it was revolutionary.
Bruce’s voice is absolutely insane!! His energy level is also off the charts. The entire band is extremely talented.
You guys are gonna love this song, outside of Wasted Years, definitely my favorite Maiden song, and the solo in this is fricking awesome!!!
The tour of the best Metal album from the best Metal Band. The best Metal line up with the awesome Clive Burr on drums. Best Metal drummer.
Rest in Power, Clive
Up the Irons 🤘
One of the very few bands that are actually better live than on the records!
Oh I totally agree that they are better live
Iron Maiden tracks - Powerslave, Alexander the great, Aces High, Caught somewhere in time, those tracks are fire.
The crowd is literally absorbing perfection...
Probably the most well known Maiden and celebrated song. About a man to be condemed to death and all the emotions he is going through. A masterpiece off of NOTB. Been listening to Maiden since 1982. Almost anything of this album, Piece of Mind and Powerslave is great.
Me too ☺️
Priest and Maiden were the metal of the early 80's
Storytime we all learned from.
Bruce always kills it.
"Heavy metal and mullets is how we were raised
Maiden and Priest were the gods that we praised."
Sum41 - Fat Lip
They should react to that video. I loved the random shoutout to Maiden in that song.
Iron Maiden were, are and always will be cool as fcUK! 🤘🏼
"fear of the dark" it is a must (live)
Bruce Dickenson is THE best frontman that has ever lived.
PERIOD!.
THIS brings me back to '83 - '84 at the age of 15. Back then, Iron Maiden with "The number of the Beast" was one of the coolest in the hard-rock.
I'm with you on that. Me too
This band has SO many great tracks, it's ridiculous. Best hard rock/metal band ever.
UP THE IRONS! ONE OF THE BEST!
The whole of Number of the beast album is fire.
Critically acclaimed to be the #1 most influential metal song ever written!!! Please prove me wrong
'Hallowed be thy name' was not a single when Iron Maiden's 3rd album 'The number of the beast' dropped in 1982 (This video was filmed on that tour - it was also drummer Clive Burr's last tour in Maiden. He passed away in 2013 😪) but it was one of those songs that pumped up the crowd every night... So, in subsequent tours, Maiden played it faster than the studio track - it was 1 of their songs that sounded better in a live version, and that was released as a single in 1993... and again in 2002 as a charity single for ex-drummer Clive Burr, who was diagnosed w/ MS at the time.
Iron Maiden was not too different from AC/DC live in concert - u had 2 guys working the crowd (In Maiden, it was vocalist Bruce Dickinson and bassist Steve Harris) while the other 2 (guitarists Dave Murray and Adrian Smith) would just play their parts and occasionally take the spotlight.
In fact, Iron Maiden fans in the US were not happy when guitarist Janick Gers replaced Adrian Smith in 1990... Gers would be jumping around on stage and hyping the crowd, and it was so different from what Adrian Smith did... However, when Adrian Smith rejoined Maiden in 1999, he and guitarist Dave Murray would be subtle on stage, while Janick Gers would do his maniacal playing on his end... 😂
Actually I find this is one of the few songs that I find the studio version gives the live versions at least a run for their money. In most cases Maiden songs are all better live.
@@rippedgenes That's your opinion...
Iron Maiden...metal royalty. The most entertaining and theatrical live band ever. Check out Dance of Death, Fear of the Dark, Paschendale and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner live. Great reactions guys. Thanks👍🏻
Up the Irons!!!
In his spare time Bruce Dickinson works as a Commercial Airline Pilot , and at one time was rated as on of the top fencers ( swordsmen ) in the world
no really
And hey, let's not forget the three books he's written, too - a couple of novels plus his autobiography. And the brewing, since he's one of the people who crafted Trooper Beer.
"the trooper"🔥🔥
Been listening to them since the 80s. Feeling back in high school whenever I pop in their tape
yanno i was just thinking you need some Maiden in your life.
up the irons!
Exactly.... I've requested them for a while now
Totally my new favourite reactors. The smiles of pure fucking joy when the music gets good are infectious.
This was pretty early in Maiden's career, they were just beginning to really get their feet under them. The singer Bruce Dickinson was relatively new to the band.
Check out one of their greatest live video's for the song called "Fear of the Dark" Live in Rio 2001. It is pretty insane, the crowd is over the top hype. I'll throw in the link for you if you decide to check it out. -------> ruclips.net/video/PpbnubVOjPY/видео.html
Yeah, they didn't quite have their showmanship yet at this young age. Plus they were probably dog tired from constantly touring. Watch the Flight 666 version of this song and you'll see a band with tons of energy.
please do judas priest - painkiller
one of the most badass metal songs ever
You guys need to do fear of the dark live The crowd is intense
Let's go! I've been a fan since the 80's, so glad you did this. Love from the Central Valley California
BTW, I loved both of your smiles on this one
Rock and a history lesson rolled into one🤘.
Can anyone recommend a performance where Eddie appears for them? I think it would blow their mind?
Now your onto some good music, lots to check out. 🤘🤘
Best Metal singer. Bruce Dickenson: The Human Air Raid Siren
My English late uncle told me in the 90s during their full family's first visit to Toronto that he'd worked with Maiden founder/bassist/principal songwriter Steve Harris. They were architectural draughtsmen. I too studied it in the mid 70s, decided not to continue. Steve Harris is 4 months older than me and bought his first bass in '71. Always loved that gallop so central to many of their songs, the twin guitar leads and attack, the thunderous drums and Bruce Dickinson's astonishing voice.
Love your reactions!!
More Iron Maiden please! )
"Fear of the dark" !!! any live version is cool ^^
Do yourselves a huge favor and listen to the studio versions first on new Maiden tunes. While they're great live, nothing is cleaner that studio versions.
No way a calm band.... Just the build up
Check out the live performances from South America, particularly from 2001 on.... 🤘
For my money the biggest and best rock group of all time 👍❤🏴 ps number of the beast next please
Bruce Dickinson is a legitimate Metal God. Aside from being the front man for the band, he’s also their charter pilot to and from different countries between performances and has survived 2 plane crashes and is also an Olympic level fencer. The amount of skill oozing off this man is more than most can ever dream to have in a single lifetime
Imagine the lead singer Bruce Dickenson, piloting the bands 747.. Yes, he is an actual pilot. A few years ago, they would do a gig in Japan or wherever and after the show....guess who flys the damn plan.!!!! ....what a bad ass !!!! You guys are really starting to appreciate the music the long haired freaky people like ..
Fear Of The Dark or Rime Of The Ancient Mariner from Flight 666 tour. The audience goes nuts and they know all the words , young and old. Badass , check 'em out.
Check out Rime of The Ancient Mariner from the Flight 666 concert!!
Why does all the best music come from the UK... Sorry guys but the UK rules music. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧😎
They are in my top 5to 10 heavy metal bands.Great vocals.
Oh its way tight! When u get to FEAR OF THE DARK live in Chile (I 🤔) you’ll see crowd reaction!!!🔥
You guys rock.
ACES HIGH (Original Video)
You're welcome.
You should react to rock you to hell by grim reaper live in 1987. Super underrated band and vocalist
Great reaction!
I absolutely love how Steve Harris acts & plays like he's lead guitar. Much like Cliff Burton would do later, R.I.P. 🤘
Well, he is the main writer of the band, including lyrics.
@@gedaom
I know, just love the energy
Rented a VHS back in '85 or so.. was 14 years old, huge inspiration from then on.
Thanks for this reaction. Love Iron Maiden ❤
The best Metal band live ! The only one with... Eddie.
Up The Irons !🤘 ;)
Do "iron maiden-fear of the dark (live in rio)" you never seen this type of crowed partecipation
"Heavy Metal" is a tribute to IRON MAIDEN. #Uptheirons
It's very lowering that the music of my youth is now regarded as vintage😂
This was 2 day before the release of of the new album, so the people were hearing this song first time ever.
What high school did you graduate from, just wondering.
Check out RUN FOR THE HILLS by Iron Maiden. Their songs are🔥but they also teach you actual history with their songs while they’re at it. We should all have had to listen to a few of these in school. We all would have been smarter for it 😁
Nicely reacted guys.
Instantly throws me back in 1987 in Helsinki Ice Hall at Finland 🇫🇮 when seeing them live(Somewhere On Tour with special guest W.A.S.P) as a 'youngster'...
Bruce Dickinson rips your lungs out with his interaction via audience.
This gem track and performance was few years earlier when Mr. Dickinson was relatively "newbie" in Iron Maiden's line up and haven't developed such energy exchange by using the mic... YET! 😀
#UP THE IRONS
Up the fucking Irons mates.
I saw them in 1985 live it was greatest concert ever. They still used Eddy the 20 foot mascot for maiden. He is on all the album covers. But they are the greatest 80's rock band ever and is still making albums.
i love this song, but when i need a pick up or energy boost i turn on Cradle of Filth's remake of this.
Brilliant Long Time Maiden Fan Here - This Performance Was Amazing From Bruce & The Boys - Maiden Are Metal GODS. You Have To React To - Iron Maiden - The Clansman - Live From Rock In Rio.
Maiden Have So Many Amazing Songs -
Fear Of The Dark
Rime Of The Ancient Mariner - A 13 Minute Masterpiece.
Blood Brothers.
Aces High.
The List Goes On.....
Up the IRONS 🥁
One of if the the greatest rock metal vocal performances ever.
welcome to the world of maiden guys Enjoy
Hi Reckless, thank you for listening and reacting to Iron Maiden, which i personally consider is THE best heavy metal band out there. Especially I love the fact that they are real story tellers. All their songs has a story behind it, weather it is from history, ancient tales or nightmares.
Please react to more Iron Maiden songs. They have a huge palette of great songs, in fact i don't remember them having made one bad song ever.
I'll provide a list of other great songs you can listen and react to from this reat band...
The Number Of The Beast
Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner
Run To The Hills
Wrathchild
22nd Acacia Avenue
Dance With The Death
Fear Of The Dark
Writing On The Wall
The Prisoner
The Trooper
Powerslave
The Clansmen
And frankly there are many many many others great songs from them, so feel free to explore :)
Ohh and as a fact for you, Bruce Dickinson (The singer) survived a throat cancer but still nails it. Listen to the live versions... especially rock in rio concert, but also other live versions from them are great... they are really outstanding in live shows.
They are still rocking hard even today in their mid 60's
THE TROOPER is a must play!!!
You have to listen Killers by them.
You're just watching a group of guys at the top of their game, they all know what they're doing and are perfectly in sync with each other, because they've been playing together for decades
Maiden rules, up the Irons!
I've always said that the amount of jumping around and clowning around a band does on stage is often inversely proportional to how much complexity they are bringing with the music. Maiden have some very complicated rhythms and a lot of stuff that requires more focus that a lot of metal bands, so you won't see them jackrabbiting around the stage a whole lot. The exceptions to that are Jannick Gers (the third guitarist you'll see in their post-90s vids) and Bruce himself, who are very active around the stage. But even Jannick doesn't overdo the dancing around when he's playing one of the more complex parts of a song.
Love Iron Maiden, seeing them in June in Belfast ... can't wait x
Same here. Finally, after two years waiting for... 🔥🔥🔥
Every song of Iron Maiden is like history lesson
Everyone in Maiden is a virtuoso.
One of my favorites!!😍
Can y'all check out some old Houston Texas music. Street Military: tears came making this dream or Bam : rough ni*** bible
Their mascot name is Eddie and if you watch the video of the Number of the Beast Eddie comes out and it's a real robot and in one video I can't remember what song it was, but they killed Eddie on stage because he was hard to control, and MTV wouldn't play the video because they thought it was to violent, but Eddie is still thier mascot and with every album Eddie changes. They are on tour now promoting their new album. Much love to you and your family 💕Brandi Modrak 💕❤💙
Kia ora (hello) from Aotearoa new zealand hay I've had the Trooper tattooed on my back since 1988 but check this out cuzzies THE CITY NEWTON BOMBERS LIVE AT GALATOS song to check out is... LOOKING PRETTY GOOD FOR THE NEW YEAR the bass player and guitarist have been playing in band's together since we were all living in a row of condemned house's in 1986 the band they started in that Punk squat ANIGMA we were all 16 year's old and two and a half years later they opened for METALLICA 1989 damaged justice tour ...Jane's addiction
Anthrax
And a few i can't remember but Simon (bass) David (guitar) have been playing PUNK THRASH METAL AND HINTS OF REGGAE FOR 34 YEARS THEY ARE GOOD AND STILL PLAYING TOGETHER IN BAND'S TWO FOR ONE PACKAGE
The smiles on your faces says it all...Just like me the first time I seen them at the 1982 ChicagoFest....My 16 year old brain was blown away.....lol
you should see them in Brazil when they had 1,000,000 Spanish speaking people that knew every word.......1,000,000 at a concert.
Just saying, the live version of Hallowed Be Thy Name in 1982 was the Ghost Love Score of the early 1980s.
Change my mind.
And just think: This song is about a man, who is imprisoned, being led to the gallows, to be hung. And as he makes that "long walk" through the prison courtyard, he contemplates his life -- and goes through the Five Stages of Grief over his own life, ending in the acceptance of his own death.
Iron Maiden...Mama Mia... They still playing and playing, and better than ever!!! Best band!!!! You must see Maiden Alive. This band its not the best band off all time. Maiden are simply Maiden. Off curse they are the Best!!!
There are sooo many songs to recommend with these guys but I’m going to start old school and work my way up. The album KILLERS; song is called Killers 😛
BTW I’m literally wearing an Iron Maiden T-shirt today, lol.
Remind me to tell you who “Eddie” is after your next reaction. He’s the scary guy on all the albums and t-shirts. Great story on this guy.
If maiden can continue performing live until 2025, they will have been performing Live for literally Half a Century.
They don't make bands like this anymore
Up The Irons \m/
Okay, subscribing. (The key to getting tons of subscribers is to feature Iron Maiden. It brings all of us die-hard Maiden fans out of the woodwork. UP THE IRONS!!!)
After Bruce Dickinson joined the Band Iron Maiden exploded. All their albums featuring Bruce Dickinson are great.
know im sayin'?
Pretty sure Iron Maiden had just hired Bruce a month earlier and we’re the opening act at THIS concert. After this concert Maiden NEVER opened up for a band again. ♥️😊
My favorite heavy metal band. Listened to Iron Maiden since I was in middle school. I'm 52, and still love the music. Hope they continue for more years to come 🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠😎😎😎😎😎
Check out the documentary...I think it's called Flight 666, about the band. The lead singer is a pilot who flies commercial jets. Super smart guy. He would finish his show then fly the band to the next show. It's nuta
Bruce Dickinson is nicknamed The Air Raid Siren (and here you can see why). Also if you notice on the 2nd “Low” at the start he looks and asks for the volume to be turned up.
Interesting fact: Bruce Dickinson is a qualified Airline pilot and flies the bands 747 when they are on tour.
