The M4 is a lot like the M-16 platform, in that it's design and simplicity will likely extend it's service adoption almost indefinitely.

Had a HK MARKED M3 Super 90 in 1998 and traded it like an idiot in 1999. Have my M4 Super 90 Entry 14” model now. Hands down favorite firearm
Bought a 121M1 back in the late 80s/early 90s. Still take it out ocassionally. Cannot outshoot the trigger on it. Great gun!!

So it sounds like HK was much more than just an importer and actually had a large role in designing the gas system with Benelli. I truly thought they were only an importer for them! I wonder if the same can be said for the Fabarm shotguns. I just converted over to a Benelli M4 gen2 and it runs incredibly solid. I just need to manage recoil better, because the telescoping stock doesn’t absorb much recoil and it really beats me up bad!
Technique, taught in training can help with reducing the effects of recoil. And great choice in choosing the M4.

I had a HK marked M1S90. Put the surefire forend on it like the proper tactical wannabe that I am. It didn't cycle with birdshot. Cycled all the buck and slug just fine though. I would put the original forend on it for when I wanted to shoot the cheap stuff. I gave it to my kids mom when we split and a few years later she traded it for an AR. I kind of wish I was able to buy her the AR and get that Benelli back. I was going to get another one or possibly the Benelli M4 when I got the funds to do so but the HK SP5 had been released and I got that instead. Think I made the right choice but still. I was able to get a Benelli Nova though. Yeah I know... But for a $350 shotgun it's actually pretty slick and I've come to prefer it over other slide action options out there. Plus it kind of looks like the M1S90 and I got my SP5 for when I need to get my LARP on. At least it functions with the surefire forend on it as long as the ammo I use says 9mm on the back of the rim.😂

There’s a HK M4 barrel assembly for sale on gun broker, It’s very tempting….
Any possibility you could do a quick run down on either the USP Elite or Expert Models on why they do not have a FULLY COVERED Firing Pin Block Spring Access Point from the Rear Sight. And if this can cause issues from dirt. I have a 45 Elite and would love to purchase a second but I keep seeing other owners talking about issues from this hole including rear sight options. Thanks so much for all your time and information on HK products.
The rear sight dovetail is cut lower in order for the pistols to meet overall size requirements for certain competition categories. I have never seen or heard of any issues with dirt and debris, but if you are choosing to carry one of those models for self defense and are in a heavy dirt and debris area, you are carrying the wrong USP model. These are for competition.
