Asus G751 Memory Upgrade / Disassembly
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 июл 2015
- Asus G751/G752 Factory Location Memory upgrade DIY video. I show you how to upgrade the factory hidden memory slot on a G751JL laptop from Best Buy to enable dual channel and allow for full expansion to 32GB RAM. Memory used: Amazon: amzn.to/1OZ35cz
The same methods can be used on the newer G752 Laptop to access the ram department as the laptop is almost identical. The G752 model uses DDR4 memory instead of DDR3
Hey, Joe, just thought you'd like to know that I upgraded my G751 to 32GB just this morning, and I'm typing this post from it right now.
Thanks for the excellent tutorial, especially your explanations about the quirks of opening the keyboard and for showing clearly where all the screws are, and I can attest that it works perfectly.
You da man!
Thank you. Finally done this yesterday to upgrade with 2x8GB + 2x4GB DDR3L 1.35V @2133Mhz KHX2133C11S3L.
Haswell (Crystal Well) i7-47xx and 48xx take great advantage with 2133MHz ram. Read/write tests with AIDA64 show a +10GB/s
BTW, no need to remove the HDs...
Thank you for the great video. I just bought the same computer and it should arrive tomorrow. I also have a Samsung 850 SSD coming, which I have installed in my other gaming notebook and my gaming desktop. I love the SSDs, the performance is just incredible. Now that you showed me how to install memory next to the factory memory, I will do that too.
2 stripped screws because they were in so hard. I have purchased 4 laptops from and 2 desktops from Asus. The video was helpful and correct. This is way too much to have to do to upgrade memory. Alienware is really easy to upgrade. I will never buy any product "ever" from Asus again.
Yes thank you. your little tips of using credit cards and looking for screws helped immensely. I was able to open my son new GL752 to access the battery. Anyone doing that model watch out for the 3 tiny tiny screws which are located on the side after you take off the reading. Now I know who to carefully disassemble when its time to add RAM
+DG Cresswell I was hoping they would fix the access to the memory on the G752 but noticed its almost exactly the same as the G751. Congrats on the laptop purchase though you will love it.
+Joseph Phelps im a little confused. couldnt you just use the 2 slot under the access panel? I have the same model as you and didnt realize you had to take the laptop apart. im looking to upgrade to 16g.
This particular model came with only 8gb and If I used the two slots under the access panel it only allows me to max at 24gb when its capable of 32gb. Plus it will only run in single channel vs dual that way. I wanted to be able to get the max memory in it and show others how to get to the factory slots should they want to upgrade their memory with different modules or max it out.
I'm looking to upgrade from 8gb (2 4gb chips current) to 16gb (4 4gb chips after upgrade). Do I still need to go through the entire disassembly or should I be able to access the slots without taking apart the whole thing?
P.S. I enjoy your format for this video, you are one of the few who takes his time to explain and show things in detail. Keep it up!
You just made me realize I didn't got my ram swapped and replaced, didn't knew my laptop had 4 ram stick slots jesus dude thanks now I know how to make it have 32gb now that I'm fixing it
Awesome Video! My wife had a bad stick of ram and this video let me fix it . Thank You!
HI, thanks you for this video. Was removing all the screws necessary? From what I seen, it seems like you only need to remove the top four and the inner four next to the hard drive since all you need to remove back panel is the top four and inner four for keyboard. Can you confirm? Thanks you!
Thank you so much now i got a idea how to clean my heatsink
Thank you for your excellent video tutorial for this process.
I have the G751JM that I added 8GB of RAM to for a total of 16GB, and it'll be nice to go for the full 32GB in the future.
I won't be going for the full 32GB while the warranty is in effect because I gather that this level of disassembly will void the warranty, but I'll likely do it once the warranty expires.
Nicely done, sir.
I also have the ASUS G751JM with 8 GB of ram. If I want to upgrade it to 16GB do I just add 1 8GB stick as shown in the video?
William Gregg
Mine came with two 4GB sticks installed in the two sockets (there are four total RAM sockets) that requite the partial disassembly shown in this video to access.
The other two sockets that only require removing a single screw for the access cover on the underside to were open, so I installed two more 4GB sticks in those to bump myself up to 16GB total.
You'll be happy to know that I was curious about whether only one of the two free sockets could be used, so I installed only one of the 4GB sticks at first, then turned it back on and the system indeed indicated that 12GB was now installed and booted up just fine, at which point I shut it off and installed the second one to bring it up to 16GB.
That right there confirms that you can indeed upgrade to 16GB with your single 8GB stick, and you can even take it up to 24GB by installing a second stick in the other socket later on.
The one caveat here is that you won't be operating in dual channel mode, which will at least in theory be slightly slower than installing two identical (I believe they must be the exact same make and model of RAM) RAM sticks in those sockets.
In fact, when I get around to upgrading to 32GB with my own, I intend to do it by buying four identical (yes, same make and model) sticks at once to ensure full dual channel mode to maximize performance.
Good luck to you.
FYI, if you only want to extend from 8 to 16 GBs, just put memory module into the easily accessible user slot on the back! Make sure it's the same (SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 MHz 8GB 11-11-11-28 or 9-9-9-25) as pre-installed one. Then boot and check with Cpu-Z on the Memory tab that it's in Dual mode - if it's not move to another user slot, but likely both user slots are on the separate channel from the internal (under the keyboard) slots.
I have the same model to and i can play 60 FPS on charge so its a realy good gaming laptop
You helped me out a lot in changing my battery. Thanks!
How did you remove the battery
+Kcar73 Go as far as he does with removal of the keyboard. After carefully lifting the board so that you don't disconnect any wires, you'll see the battery connected with multicolored wires at some white plastic. Disconnect this by pulling the wires and white part out, and then you can lift the whole battery out.
+Justin Rittenhouse ok thank you
arent there two screws underneath the screen holding the battery in place?
Thank you Joseph for this help, Isearched during several hours where the 4th ram slot is installed, the manual being poor for this suject, I think now I'll have my 32 GB in adding 3 * 8 GB of crucial ballistic Sport to the original 8 GB. I hope Asus has not built this laptop with 2 sticks of 4 GB ...
+Jean Marc Venet I have only seen them with 8GB modules installed.
Exactly, I found only one 8GB module
+Jean Marc Venet There ARE 4 RAM slots for a max of 8 gigs each, 32 gigs max across all 4 banks. Crucial.com scanner shows that the pre-installed memory is in slot 4. Slots 2 (empty) and 4 are under the keyboard; Slots 1 (empty) and 3 (empty) are directly under the panel located the bottom of the laptop. I now have the full 32 gigs thanks to this video. :-)
I bought the Crucial Ballistic Sport as you mentioned above and loving it
crucial scanner wont work for me @@SlavicCooking1
Just a side note - When you are unscrewing the drive holder screws, make sure you have a good magnetic screwdriver. The tiny little screws easily fit through the slots underneath the drive bays, requiring a complete teardown to get them out again!
It's a good idea to disconnect the battery first... You also lose dual channel if you install mismatched RAM... You want all your RAM cards to be the same make, model, and size...otherwise it will revert to single channel...
Can't you just put the 8gb directly in the back after the pulling out the first screw ?
ZAlouera you could but it wouldn’t enable dual channel until you fill the first memory slot he was trying to access in the video since this model only came with one stick of 8gb.
M P what happens when dual channel is not enabled? Will it cause trouble later on?
No ,it won't cause trouble, but you may be missing out on some performance gains.
One of my battery's cells died so I'm in need of replacing the battery. Have you taken a look at it or know the following steps to get access to the battery? Thanks in advance for the answer.
Can we upgrade the graphics card or add another SSD with the SSD witch came with the computer ?
Is there anyway you can do a FULL JY dissambely video?
You should make more videos! This one is fantastic!
You should have disconnected the battery first. Plugging in RAM while the power is connected can cause the motherboard to short circuit even if the laptop is powered off. While the laptop is off, 5 Volts is still being supplied to the laptop, known as soft power.
Is there any way that you can take the battery out I was just wondering
Yes its a G752 and those memory sticks should still work, the one(G752) that comes pre-installed with 64GB goes for $2000 more. it was a cheaper alternative for me.
I have a question, did mixing the two different sticks of memory in your laptop give you dual channel support or are they running in single channel? Also was wondering if you knew if the memory in a laptop has to be every other slot, like in a desktop, to support dual channel.
Thanks for making this video!
i cant believe you have to do all of that to upgrade ram on a gaming laptop wtf asus!
The Newer Model one don't need to do this anymore, it simply one screw on the back to pop out and replaced the Ram and Hard Drive.
He could have just installed the ram on the back cover slots.
starkness65 Is there a tutorial on how to replace an SSD, on the ASUS g751?
@@rubdulbah3201 but if one of the slots on the board were to need to be replaced its a real hassle to replace
Yikes! I'm at 6:08 on your video and I'm already discouraged from taking my ASUS G751JL apart. I wonder why ASUS made it so difficult to upgrade a common component like RAM! Thanks for the video! It would be great to change the ugly keyboard lighting, too.
You can just open one screw to access ram....
There are open ram slots above the 2nd hard drive. But appreciate seeing a teardown anyways
+xpgbodomhc1 You are missing the point of the video which I have stated many times. This particular model only came with 8gb of RAM keeping you from getting to the max 32gb of memory the laptop is capable of. In order to get to the max memory you have to tear down the laptop to get to the hidden factory slots. There are a total of four. If you have the 8gb model and are happy with only 24gb max memory and single channel ram instead of dual channel then yes use the slots above the hard drive. If you have a 16GB model or above you shouldn't need to tear down the laptop unless you want to put in performance memory or have a problem later on that requires it.
You can change the laptop battery? and what the name of this battery? I have the same laptop and if I die the battery if I can change it?
Joseph thanks man, I have a question, I have the version that brings 16 gb from the factory, can you give me an example of a 16 gb ram that can be installed in this model, so that it has 32 gb. please i do not know what 16gb ram can be installed in this model
Sorry for the late reply but there is a link in the description for an example of memory on Amazon.
Excellent instructions! Thanks.
Hey, I need help!
I tried opening mine up because of a complete battery failure. I got stuck because two of the HDD screws were stuck in place. I couldn't open the lid up. Now I'm stuck with a useless box that can't be opened.
I don't know a lot about upgrading computers so this helps me out a lot. Is there anything else i can do to this laptop to make it the best it can possibly be, anything else I can upgrade? and does it have to be an 8gb stick or could i go bigger?
Ik this video is old but, is the cmos battery visible right when you take off the keyboard or do I have to take off the motherboard too to access cmos battery?
Not sure if you still check this at all, but I could use help with something. My laptop is out of warranty, and the plastic that covers the right hinge seems to have started to break under pressure, which is also causing pressure for the screen.
Would you happen to know if it's possible to get replacement parts for that and if repairing it would be feasible? Everything else seems to work fine for now, it's just the hinges.
i think that there is no need for all that you could attach the memory at the beginning from the back as there is a memory slot at the back of the laptop above the hard disk slots
I could of but this model only had 1 stick of 8GB of memory and I wanted to add more and make sure dual channel was enabled. This model has 4 total slots for available memory.
Once you open the laptop there are four ribbon type cables. Can you tell me what the cables are for especially the one on the far right side beside the thicker one. thank you
Sorry, I dont have the laptop anymore but I believe they were cables for the screen and the keyboard/trackpad.
This should work on the G751jm model, correct? It also has 8GB of RAM but in the form of 2x4GB sticks.
Hey Can you show us how to change the LCD monitor of the laptop ?Thank you
Wanted to ask, how many ram sticks can you add??? and do you know if it can handle a single 16gb ram stick?
Great video. Can you upload a video of you changing the battery or removing the battery and reconnecting it?
Hi,
I don't know it this video is still being viewed...
I would like to know many RAM slots there on that model , because I believed there were 4 slots (2 banks of 2). (but looking at the video i only seem to see one slot per bank)
I bought 4 RAM sticks(each 8GB) and wanted to replace all the memory of my laptop. Before I go buy tools to go and check for myself, I was wondering if someone could answer me...
Thats correct. There are 4 slots. 2 just underneath the rear cover and 2 on the backside of the motherboard under the keyboard area.
Awesome video! thanks for sharing this.
hello. my laptop got soaked in water, what should I do?
Hi, can you make a video on replacing a DVD-ROM Drive?
mY retroled lighsts are not working, I dunno what happened what can I do
+PS César I am not sure what you are asking sorry. Are you talking about the keyboard backlight?
+Joseph Phelps Yes,my laptop suffered a momentary blackout for no reason, and then I restart it and would not allow keyboard lights off, are on all the time, what happened? How can I fix it?
Hi I just bought this laptop and I cracked the glass touch part any chance you might know the Screen part number I'm looking for a replacement Could really use some help! thank you
+Elizabeth Ramirez Oh that's upsetting that the screen cracked. I don't know exactly the part number because most have the matte screen and I have a version with the touch screen. Ive seen the matte screen replacement and part numbers doing a few searches. Havent seen the touch screen but Im sure its out there. I haven't had a need to take out my screen so I don't have a part number for you sorry.
Is there a way to upgrade it to touch screen? thx!
Yeah just touch the screen. This model is already touch screen
I have been looking everywhere for the 2nd hdd caddy/tray/sled do you have a link to where I might be able to purchase one?
Can someone tell me what the distinction is between my G751J and the others people have? Mine has a basic, single row of gray exhaust vents, while other people have what looks like a double row of red vents.
+Rick and/or Morty The double row models usually have the gtx970 or 980 installed in them for extra cooling.
Hey nice video! But do you think i can replace the factory RAM (4GB apparently) for a higher RAM (16GB or 8GB)? Also you used another 8GB RAM for the empty channel, Can i use a 16GB RAM instead?
Hi from the video i noticed that in the second hdd bay there isn't a M.2 ssd port. So i assume this model doesn't support M.2 ssd?
+jerome roopchand Correct. Some models do and some don't.
Hello. Are you sure that behind the bottom clip ain't like A2-slot and B2-slot? So there would be a straight dualchannel possibility? Just curious. Planning to upgrade mine also.
+Cerah Depends. If yours already came with 16Gb then it should be running dual channel already. You would just need to add two more 8Gb sticks via the access bay to max it out.
My battery stopped charging I been trying to find a video for replacement steps.
Check out this video for removal of the battery. ruclips.net/video/i96gD_AcAe0/видео.html
Hi, can u also show us if you can clean the fan? My fan became noisy all of a sudden. I think that it became dirty. Since my place is kinda dusty, thanks!
+SmileBigSun You can clean the fan by following the disassembly steps mentioned here. You will see them when taking it apart.
Does ASUS offer this kind of service?
Do you know if we can upgrade the CPU of Asus ROG laptops? Mine is GX850....I think, not so experienced with pc upgrading. I'd appriciate any help here, thanks in advance.
+Alvin Cast No you cant upgrade the CPU.
Great Video! Do you by chance know if the screen is replaceable? Mine cracked when I try to adjust the it.
Yes it is replaceable. The part costs about $200 and took me about an hour to replace. Once you open it up like he did, you can see where everything is connected. Then it's plug and play.
good video, but how do I get the screen off cos mine is dead and I wanna put a new one
+Bhavya Chopra Not sure about replacing the screen. I hope I never have issues with it. I will take a look at it though and maybe Ill make a video on that.
Thanks for video! Planing to buy this one (name bellow) and will need to upgrade memory to make 16gb. This memory you bought on amazon works good with the one that is in laptop?
ASUS G751JT-T7154H
+Нет Имени (Эльза) Yes the memory works great. I also added in some GSkill ripjaw memory as of late.
Any reason you cant just use the ports in the expansion bay?
+Konnor Buckner-gaudynski Because he's planning on expanding to 32gb later. So when he buys another 2x8gb, it's an easier install.
+Konnor Buckner-gaudynski It's literally just one screw, you just pop them both in on the easy slots. The back one is the one that's difficult to get at.
btw...would I be correct in guessing that this level of disassembly will also allow you to swap out the battery if necessary?
+PinkOld yes you will see the battery and there is a cable that connects to the mobo if you need to replace it at any point.
Joseph Phelps
Thanks, and once again, thanks for making this excellent vid.
I'll be able to upgrade my RAM to the full 32GB max once my warranty expires thanks to you.
how many slots there are for the ram , 2 0 4 ?
The battery is replaceable in case of breakage ?
thank you!
peppepeppo1 There are 4 total slots for RAM. 2 are easily accessible the other 2 are the hard to reach slots that this video shows you how to access.
Joseph Phelps and the battery? Is it replaceable?
peppepeppo1 The battery is not easily replaceable like the earlier models of this laptop. Using the techniques in this video, it does appear that you could replace it though.
Joseph Phelps the battery is connected with some cable or it is welded?
+peppepeppo1 I really don't have a great answer for that sorry. It looked screwed in and I highly doubt it's welded. Unfortunately I don't think it will be a type of battery you would easily find on the aftermarket should it go back.
i wanted to ask after installation will the computer recognize that the memory has been installed and go straight to using it or would you have to change settings within your computer? also how would you have to upgrade this to 32 gb? just install the right size or remove and replace old one? lookin for advice just bought one a few days ago. having trouble running nvidia geforce experience always says unable to connect. just downloaded windows 10. any help would be appreciated. thanks for the vid!!
+darkroxas1324 The computer should pick right up on the memory that was installed. Maxing it to 32GB would depend on how much is already installed. Asus seems to be installing 8GB sticks in each slot so you would just need to purchase the amount remaining you need. Not sure what problem you are having with the geforce card.
How the hell do you take the battery out very confused..
I bought this same laptop from best buy and cracked the touch screen but not the LCD. I've looked online and found the digitizer itself (with no LCD) but i'm not 100% about it since its coming from Hong Kong & geek squad says I would have to replace the LCD all together (over $400.00 USD to fix it) :( !!! Would you by any chance know if the touch digitizer alone can be replaced on this laptop! great tare down by the way! please help thank you!
+Jonathan Ramirez just buy a monitor and connect... not worth fixing if i were you
+Jonathan Ramirez or just resell
I have read the comments, but I want to be 100% sure... so the ASUS G751 has 4 DIMM slots for RAM-memory in total. But it does NOT support 16gb DIMMs per slot? Just 8gb DIMMS per slot? So in conclusion it is not possible to upgrade to 64gb RAM, the ASUS G751 is just capable of a total of 32gb RAM?!
So if I want to have 64gb of ram I would consider buying the newer model, asus g752....!?
I want to to heavy video editing with it, e.g. with Adobe After Effects, which sucks up your ram so fast. Has anyone some advice? Is 32gb enough? Will i ever reach 64gb with my compositions?
Thank you all!
Sorry for replying so late but yes the G751 allows up to 32gb and the G752 is 64gb. 32gb should be plenty!
Joseph- I tried to unscrew that 1st screw yesterday and once I felt I had it loose I tried to unscrew it all the way and kept getting a clicking noise with each turn but it wasn't getting any further out. Did you just yank on the underbelly portion once you got the screw loose or did the screw easily come out for you?
On mine, the screw does not come out all the way so you don't risk losing the small screw. Just unscrew it until the screw does not come out anymore and pull on the tab. If that doesn't work, your screw may be stripped.
Thanks. You were right I just applied a little more pressure and it came off...
hello ,can you make the asus G750JM disassembly video ,teach upgrade the ram memory ???
+Khoo Ricky If I had a G750JM I would. I think there are other videos on RUclips already.
Hi, thanks for the helpful guide. I'm new to even opening a laptop, so I have a Couple of Questions!
1. Is there a specific "crucial ram" that you buy or will any 8 GB crucial ram stick suffice?
2. Are all 3 empty bays within the computer?
3. Can you make a video on how to install a SSD? :)
Thank you!
+Hugh P Hey Hugh, Crucial actually has a nice upgrade advisor tool on their website you can use to find memory. Its at www.crucial.com/usa/en/advisor. Most major ram manufacturers have this on their websites as well. I happened to have purchased an 8GB stick Model CT102464BF160B which was used in this video. Make sure you are getting the low voltage memory 1.35V for these laptops.
If you are talking about the memory bays, there are two underneath the keyboard which this video shows you how to get to. The other two are via the access bay on the underside of the laptop. Its the first thing I took off in the video. Depending on the laptop you bought you may already have 16GB preinstalled. If so, you shouldnt have to go through all the steps in this video to add more memory.
I dont plan on making another video at the moment up Asus does have a mini upgrade guide on their website that should help you add in an SSD. Its at rog.asus.com/375732014/g-series-gaming-laptops/gallery-g751-upgrade-guide/
+Joseph Phelps Thank you Joseph I really appreciate it!
IMPORTANT! READ BEFORE YOU TAKE YOURS APART!
There may be a previous comment I'm not sure but I think you should be more specific on the model that you are talking about cause my G751 model takes 2 16 GB ram cards and both slots are visible. I just took my laptop apart AND I DONT HAVE HIDDEN SLOTS. My model number is BSi7T28 and those models have there ram slots visible already and take up to 2 16 GB's. The model that you have here of the G751 is different from mine and probably others.
+Victor Mendoza Mine is the G751JL-BSI7T28 which is the same as yours...
Well I don't know how to explain that mine doesn't have it but I have to get 2 16GB sticks. Now they have even better ones coming out.
+Victor Mendoza you may have gotten yours recently? i know there are 4 slots in my model as well just like the video. 2 of the slots are on bottom and easy to get too. the other 2 (one already has a 8 gig in it) are under the keyboard. i got mine in april. back then you only got 8 gigs of ram. now it comes with 16 gigs.
Maybe I have a back then one cause mine came with 8 gigs of ram but me and Joseph have the same models so IDK. 16 gigs is still doing me really good at the moment but it just bothers me knowing that I can upgrade to 32 (says asus when I call them). I do have 2 extra 8 gigs sticks that I can sell now. The new models have 64 gigs of ram with water cooling.
Victor Mendoza well the new models are also going to be the top ofthe line models. just like ours has a more top of the line model. the thing i like with asus is they usually come up with a lesser model that is still a great rig but without the hefty cost.
not sure if you have the same model why it does not have the 2 extra slots then. are you sure you dont have those as well? i know i have 2 that are easy to get to from the bottom from doing the 1 screw. then if i want, i can undo my keyboard and get to 2 more.
Excuse me sir, I was wondering if you have to use RAM DDR3L instead of DDR3, because I'm about to buy this exact model but if it is not compatible with the DDR3 I will no buy it, so if you could tell me the type of RAM that the laptop needs that would be really helpful! Blessings!!!
To my knowledge you need DDR3L, but don't let that stop you, it's a very good desktop alternative. It runs Crysis 3 on medium to high to very high settings with 60fps, GTA V on high and very high setting with 60 fps, a very good laptop in my opinion.
+Andrew Catanzaro I appreciate it brother, and yes, I'm going to consider it because I noticed that in the specifications of the model that I want to get (available on Best buy), the RAM was described as DDR3, and well, I already have (2x8) 16 GB of RAM, and it also seems that the laptop is a pretty good option, thank you for your comment seriously!
hey when i open and close my lid it makes a clicking noise. I have the G751JL. it sounds like a screw isnt tight enough, any ideas how i would fix the sound i dont want it to mess up over time like my last laptop, thanks!
I guess check all your screws and make sure they are snug. I would say it's probably normal to hear some sounds when opening and closing the lid. Our laptops have a bit of plastic to them. Mine creaks a bit.
it sounds like it could be a thread on a screw jumping to the next thread because the screw isnt tightened enough to bear the load.
i hope you are right though!
+Flat Earth Videos Well if it sounds that bad you may want to take it back or possibly apply some loctite to the threads. The screws may have been over tightened and stripped. Hard to say without seeing and hearing it.
I'm confused, at the 1.5 minute mark, there appears to be nothing in the outside RAM slots (next to the HDDs). Then you add 8GB next to the 8GB on the inside slots for a total of 16GB. However, at about the 12:05 minute mark, there appears to be something installed in one of those outer RAM slots? So you have 24GB now? Or is that something else? Am I seeing that correctly? Is it necessary to take it apart to upgrade the RAM or can you simply add 8GB to one of those outer slots to make 16GB? In other words, is there a specific order to the slots in which the RAM should be installed like some motherboards? An answer to the last question might answer this question: Do you know if I order a factory installed 16GB laptop, if they fill the inner slots so that I can simply upgrade the outer slots? As near as I can tell, they are charging about $60 for 8GB RAM upgrades and even worse ridiculous prices for HDD upgrades, so I'm trying to figure out the path of cheapest resistance here (the most cost effective approach). Thanks in advance for any clarity you can provide. :)
+sumnone If you order a 16gb model they fill the inner slots so no worries on having to upgrade the ram per this video. You could technically install ram on the outer slot of the 8gb models, but you wouldnt be enabling the dual channel memory. This video is also for someone that wants to replace all their memory with maybe a higher performing memory than what the factory puts in. at 12:05 I dont have anything install on the outer slots. You could add another 8GB module if you want for 24Gb but this turns off the dual channel feature again.
+Joseph Phelps Excellent, thanks a million for the reply. I was googling on that for several hours the other day in addition to trying to figure out what the different models letters and numbers represent (once you get past the G751J part). "Enabling the dual-channel memory" was the eureka moment for me in regards to this. Weird about the 1.5 and 12:05 minute mark. At 1.5, your finger is right next to that white bar/sticker or whatever that is....and at 12:05, that white bar/sticker is now sitting on top of four very distinct rectangles that looks like memory chips on a RAM stick. Anyway, it's not relevant, maybe it's the camera angle or something and just messing with my OCD. Thanks again!
+sumnone it's a rectangular hole on the motherboard. You are seeing the new memory stick that I put in underneath. I'm guessing they did that for airflow around the memory sticks.
+Joseph Phelps Ahhh, I see, that makes sense now. Ok, thanks again for your reply.
why didn't you put it on the First slot?, was easier than dissambly the keyboard
Please read previous comments..description..etc...this was explained numerous times
+Joseph Phelps jeje sorry i didn't read the description
Awesome video, will doing this void our warranty?
I imagine it would if you messed with the factory slots. Just upgrading the normal expansion area shouldn't though.
what kind of screwdrivers are those? do i need any special ones to follow your tutorial?
+schwagier They are just some small computer repair screwdrivers. You can get a cheap kit like this amzn.to/1LZK3oW or get something a little more pricer with a case.
Merci infiniment ! Nice vidéo
how much did it cost from bestbuy ?
Am I wrong or do you have a glossy screen on your ASUS G751? Was that a factory build or did you replace your matt screen with a glossy screen?
+Gerre van der Meer It is a glossy touchscreen. Was an exclusive from Best Buy.
Awesome, is that screen Full HD, QHD or 4K?
Its a Full HD IPS screen
Video was very well done!
i have 1 slot ssd is 500 gb and the second 2 TB hdd , not problem.
+Vitamin Multi lol i used the same setup... but i added another 2tb in the disk drive in a cadyy... over kill 4.5 tb
+Frank MaZZay WOW
Is there a tutorial of how to Replace the SSD on this laptop? I'm needing more space.
Does this laptop work with 64Gb max memory RAM?
Esteban Andres no it only goes up to 32gb
Does it matter that I have to put the same model as the factory one? Or it can be anything.
+Nattipat V It could really be anything if you want. I put in a crucial memory alongside the factory samsung memory with no problems.
+Joseph Phelps Thanks!
Hello there. So on this model you can use the 4 slots, to get a max of 32Gb . I'm thinking on buying it. But I think it has to use 2x16Gb to get the 32Gb
+Sergio Sufy I depends on the model you buy and how much preinstalled memory it has. If you have a 16gb model or higher you don't have to worry about taking It apart like in this video. You just have to use the little access bay and there are 2 slots there. Asus uses 8Gb sticks.
+Joseph Phelps Hi thanks for helping. I just brought the ROG g751JM with 8Gb . But I can't really find it has 2 or 4 slots over the Internet. I'd like to but the extra ram before it arrives home next week
+Sergio Sufy Hey Sergio. These laptops have a total of 4 slots. 2 are hidden which is where the factory memory is and the other 2 are accessible via the easy access panel on the bottom of the laptop.
i have same laptop, is there a noticeable difference?
and will the factory memory be compatible with memory you add?
So at 10:57, is it easy to replace the battery pack when it come time to replace it?
+danwat1234 I cant answer this with certainty but it appears you could.
+danwat1234 i would also imagine you would not have to remove all of the screws either, just those holding the speaker part in.
Hi Joseph, I recently purchased a G752 that comes with 16Gb Ram, I need to upgrade to 64Gb Ram, please let me know if 3 sticks of the Crucial CT16G4RFD4213 16GB Single DDR4 2133 MT/s (PC4-2133) CL15 DR x4 ECC Registered DIMM 288-Pin Server Memory will be sufficient and is it the correct category of Ram for this machine?
+cedric wachira No I wouldn't recommend that memory. The laptop only allows up to 32GB of memory so buying anything higher would be a waste. That memory is more for desktop servers.
To late I Already bought. Asus said it can go upto 64gb
+cedric wachira You must have the G752 model then. It still takes laptop memory though.
hey man I would like to know if hyperx impact black 16gb 1866 mhz ddr3l cl11 sodimm laptop ram work on my g751jl? also I know now that I have to remove my old ram from my laptop to upgrade to this new ram as my old ram is pc3 1600mhz. its disappointing that the old ram is on the other side side of the laptop. wish there was an easier way to remove it
The★Good★Gamer X Yes it looks like it should work just fine. Let me know if it auto-overclocks like it says to give you a little speed boost.
Joseph Phelps hey I wil be buying this soon next week or so. I was thinking how would this ram be in comparison with G.Skill F3-1866C11D-16GRSL 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866MHz Dual Channel ?? which is better?
+The★Good★Gamer X I'd say either one is great. They both offer lifetime warranties on their memory and are reputable brands.
can you upgrade the graphics card for this laptop and if so can you send me to watch gpu I should get
+Knight Artorias You can not upgrade the video card on this model. Sorry
4:44 so THATS how those stupid black rubber blocks were mounted. Thanks!
How do you take the battery out?
Check out this video for battery removal instructions. ruclips.net/video/i96gD_AcAe0/видео.html
so im thinking of buying this computer a question I have for owners of this laptop how well does it actually play pc games im sick of playing games like starcraft 2 and SWTOR and I have to lower my graphics to its lowest settings so the games look like crap on my current computer. would this allow me to max out the graphics, especially with these 32gb memeory upgrades cuase I keep seeing videos online for both games those games look so amazing when some one is using a computer that can handle the graphics so I want that too
It's great I can run everything so high grapics so yeah
+dragonhatcher12 I have the 965m in mine and it will run about every game on high and some on ultra settings and play smoothly. The games you mentioned should run maxed out. If you get the 970 or 980 models then you definitely will have a powerful machine.
When the laptop was face down, was the ssd drive on the left or the right? And I'm in the Market for a new ssd drive to replace my current any suggestions on which brand?
+GraphFlex The SSd is on the left. It is also labeled Master and Slave to help out. As far as SSD's. You cant go wrong with a Samsung amzn.to/1JJdvZC or SanDisk amzn.to/1Tpyc2j drive. They are often on sale. Plenty of other great brands but those are the two I typically use.
Thanks Joseph Phelps
+GraphFlex Just another quick comment if you want to change out your main drive. Make sure to do a backup with Asus Backtracker of your factory partition before you upgrade and test it out if you can. There have been problems with restoring from the Backtracker application. I experienced this myself when trying to load it on the new drive. The old one always worked but it wouldn't install correct on the new drive. It was related to the version of Backtracker I used when saving. Get the most recent one and you should be good. I'm sure its been addressed at this point though.
doesn't Samsung ssd come with a cable that can transfer you current ssd to your new one before you install it Joseph Phelps
Joseph Phelps up
Why didn't you just download more RAM???? :P
Heervristi 666 lul
Your ASUS laptop screen is different than other G751 models.. I don't know why. Is yours old model?
+ae vurucu Its an exclusive model at Best Buy that came with a touch screen. The trade off is it only came with 8GB.
+Joseph Phelps Thanks for your reply.
Hi, this was a really helpful video that I'll be needing soon. I'm far from being a techie but I am of need of a laptop for architectural purposes that will run Autocad, Revit and the likes, with a side of gaming. I was told the higher the RAM, the better. I have a few questions that would be great if you help me out :)
(1) Do you think the default RAM of G751JL-DS71 is enough for my work?
(2) You said in the video that it went to 16GB after the process but full 32GB expansion on your description. I take it that you upgraded your current drive to 16GB but can be pushed further to 32GB, is that right? If so, can I do a 32GB on mine?
(3) Is this the best ASUS ROG I can get along its price line (1000-1800usd) or should I consider other models? Your answer would help a lot because this is a lot of money for me and I would want something that would last me for years :(
Thanks! Will be subscribing to you channel :)
bazazam (1.)Hey I use the same programs you are describing and was one of the reasons I went with this laptop. I really wanted something a little thinner and lighter if possible, but most thin laptops in my price range only would allow for one hard drive or had some other quirk. After having this laptop I am really happy I purchased it and am content with the weight and size. I travel quite a bit with it.
(2.) My laptop came with only 8GB or RAM from Best Buy. The 8GB is honestly fine but the more the better! I also wanted to enable the dual channel abilities that having two sticks would provide. Once I put in another 8GB it still leaves 2 more slots open on the access bay. You can max this laptop to 32GB.
(3.)If your budget is up to $1800 You can certainly find one with a 970M graphics card and SSD and it would provide quite a boost to your gaming. Mine came with a 1TB drive but I added a SSD I already had. Paid $1100 for mine on sale at BestBuy. I really wanted the glossy screen that the touch screen provided instead of the standard matte screen. The 8GB model is a special model that I think only Best Buy sells with the touch screen. You may also want to look at the MSI GS70 Stealth Pro. You can find it for $1599 with the 970M graphics card. Its thin, light, and has a bit more features.
Joseph Phelps That's great, you use the same programs! Do you experience crashes with this?
I'm glad to hear this one worked for you. I really don't care much about weight and size even if I'd be bringing it much around. I also see bulky, 90s-looking laptops appealing. I was actually torn among Asus, the MSI you recommended and Lenovo W but chose this one because of the Asus' cooling system, durable build and service available in the country I'll be using it in.
Are there certain sizes/brand/spec I should make sure of in buying 8GB RAM and SSD? I checked on Best Buy and prices varied vastly per brand.
You're lucky you got yours on sale, it's $1350 right now.
bazazam Havent had any crashes and just upgraded to Windows 10. All seems OK. I would just make sure to pick a good brand name memory company and make sure its low voltage 1.35v memory.
Kingston HyperX SO-DIMM, 2133Mhz, did they works with?
+King Jezdi It should work, just make sure you get the DDR3 and not the DDR4 version.
Joseph Phelps thx! :)
hi is this g751 ds 71 model or? thanks
Super Super Its the G751JL model that Best Buy sells.
Does this void the warranty?
+rokusho7223 Technically yes it does void the warranty to open up the laptop.
I had to return this lptop 4 times cause the oter 2 seams pretty slow and the other 2 keep saying plugged in not charging??? don't u have any idea why mine keep saying plugged in not charging?
+Alvin Tria Sucks you are having issues with your laptop. Mine does the same thing with the battery when plugged in. From what I understand when the battery is fully charged (100%) the charging circuit is automatically disconnected until the battery falls below 100% again. This prevents the battery being overcharged.
+Joseph Phelps when i talk to asus costumer service they want me to send the laptop to them..now i have a warning return to bb store because of this crazy laptop..lol
So in that case..why the asus costumer service doesnt know this kind of problem?..hmmm wonder why?..
+Alvin Tria I find that the customer service people are just there to get the product back for the service techs to look at if under warranty, or read from a few scripts if its software related. They usually don't know how the repair process works or what all is involved. You could very well have an issue though.
+Joseph Phelps i think ir right..those people dont know anythinf about the issue they just want you to send it to them and have there tech take a look at it..well if ur acting like my laptop did prolly it just normal..i guess..lol
