Asus G751 Memory Upgrade / Disassembly
Asus G751/G752 Factory Location Memory upgrade DIY video. I show you how to upgrade the factory hidden memory slot on a G751JL laptop from Best Buy to enable dual channel and allow for full expansion to 32GB RAM. Memory used: Amazon: amzn.to/1OZ35cz
The same methods can be used on the newer G752 Laptop to access the ram department as the laptop is almost identical. The G752 model uses DDR4 memory instead of DDR3

It's a good idea to disconnect the battery first... You also lose dual channel if you install mismatched RAM... You want all your RAM cards to be the same make, model, and size...otherwise it will revert to single channel...
Just a side note - When you are unscrewing the drive holder screws, make sure you have a good magnetic screwdriver. The tiny little screws easily fit through the slots underneath the drive bays, requiring a complete teardown to get them out again!
Hi, I don't know it this video is still being viewed... I would like to know many RAM slots there on that model , because I believed there were 4 slots (2 banks of 2). (but looking at the video i only seem to see one slot per bank) I bought 4 RAM sticks(each 8GB) and wanted to replace all the memory of my laptop. Before I go buy tools to go and check for myself, I was wondering if someone could answer me...
Thats correct. There are 4 slots. 2 just underneath the rear cover and 2 on the backside of the motherboard under the keyboard area.
You just made me realize I didn't got my ram swapped and replaced, didn't knew my laptop had 4 ram stick slots jesus dude thanks now I know how to make it have 32gb now that I'm fixing it
Once you open the laptop there are four ribbon type cables. Can you tell me what the cables are for especially the one on the far right side beside the thicker one. thank you
Sorry, I dont have the laptop anymore but I believe they were cables for the screen and the keyboard/trackpad.
Joseph thanks man, I have a question, I have the version that brings 16 gb from the factory, can you give me an example of a 16 gb ram that can be installed in this model, so that it has 32 gb. please i do not know what 16gb ram can be installed in this model
Sorry for the late reply but there is a link in the description for an example of memory on Amazon.
Does this laptop work with 64Gb max memory RAM?
Esteban Andres no it only goes up to 32gb
Ik this video is old but, is the cmos battery visible right when you take off the keyboard or do I have to take off the motherboard too to access cmos battery?
Can't you just put the 8gb directly in the back after the pulling out the first screw ?
ZAlouera you could but it wouldn’t enable dual channel until you fill the first memory slot he was trying to access in the video since this model only came with one stick of 8gb.
M P what happens when dual channel is not enabled? Will it cause trouble later on?
No ,it won't cause trouble, but you may be missing out on some performance gains.
i think that there is no need for all that you could attach the memory at the beginning from the back as there is a memory slot at the back of the laptop above the hard disk slots
I could of but this model only had 1 stick of 8GB of memory and I wanted to add more and make sure dual channel was enabled. This model has 4 total slots for available memory.
You should have disconnected the battery first. Plugging in RAM while the power is connected can cause the motherboard to short circuit even if the laptop is powered off. While the laptop is off, 5 Volts is still being supplied to the laptop, known as soft power.
With so many screws i need to take out ill be damned as newbie
Video was very well done!
All of that just to replace or add ram. Totally discouraging
Great video. Can you upload a video of you changing the battery or removing the battery and reconnecting it?
FYI, if you only want to extend from 8 to 16 GBs, just put memory module into the easily accessible user slot on the back! Make sure it's the same (SO-DIMM DDR3L 1600 MHz 8GB 11-11-11-28 or 9-9-9-25) as pre-installed one. Then boot and check with Cpu-Z on the Memory tab that it's in Dual mode - if it's not move to another user slot, but likely both user slots are on the separate channel from the internal (under the keyboard) slots.
Awesome Video! My wife had a bad stick of ram and this video let me fix it . Thank You!
hello. my laptop got soaked in water, what should I do?
Hey nice video! But do you think i can replace the factory RAM (4GB apparently) for a higher RAM (16GB or 8GB)? Also you used another 8GB RAM for the empty channel, Can i use a 16GB RAM instead?
Hey, I need help! I tried opening mine up because of a complete battery failure. I got stuck because two of the HDD screws were stuck in place. I couldn't open the lid up. Now I'm stuck with a useless box that can't be opened.
How do I replace my SSD?
4:44 so THATS how those stupid black rubber blocks were mounted. Thanks!
how much did it cost from bestbuy ?
Not sure if you still check this at all, but I could use help with something. My laptop is out of warranty, and the plastic that covers the right hinge seems to have started to break under pressure, which is also causing pressure for the screen. Would you happen to know if it's possible to get replacement parts for that and if repairing it would be feasible? Everything else seems to work fine for now, it's just the hinges.
Yikes! I'm at 6:08 on your video and I'm already discouraged from taking my ASUS G751JL apart. I wonder why ASUS made it so difficult to upgrade a common component like RAM! Thanks for the video! It would be great to change the ugly keyboard lighting, too.
You can just open one screw to access ram....
perfecto! Thank you
Is removing all those screws really necessary just to upgrade RAM? Or is most of this just for disassembly purposes. I'd rather not run the risk of fucking up my expensive ass laptop just to upgrade it.
I don't know a lot about upgrading computers so this helps me out a lot. Is there anything else i can do to this laptop to make it the best it can possibly be, anything else I can upgrade? and does it have to be an 8gb stick or could i go bigger?
You should make more videos! This one is fantastic!
I have a question, did mixing the two different sticks of memory in your laptop give you dual channel support or are they running in single channel? Also was wondering if you knew if the memory in a laptop has to be every other slot, like in a desktop, to support dual channel. Thanks for making this video!
Hey Can you show us how to change the LCD monitor of the laptop ?Thank you
Can we upgrade the graphics card or add another SSD with the SSD witch came with the computer ?
Wanted to ask, how many ram sticks can you add??? and do you know if it can handle a single 16gb ram stick?
how to install SSD? pls help
Thank you. Finally done this yesterday to upgrade with 2x8GB + 2x4GB DDR3L 1.35V @2133Mhz KHX2133C11S3L. Haswell (Crystal Well) i7-47xx and 48xx take great advantage with 2133MHz ram. Read/write tests with AIDA64 show a +10GB/s BTW, no need to remove the HDs...
I have been looking everywhere for the 2nd hdd caddy/tray/sled do you have a link to where I might be able to purchase one?
My battery stopped charging I been trying to find a video for replacement steps.
Check out this video for removal of the battery. ruclips.net/video/i96gD_AcAe0/видео.html
Why didn't you just download more RAM???? :P
Heervristi 666 lul
Ooopppsss😂😂😂😂😡😡😡👎👎
why didn't you put it on the First slot?, was easier than dissambly the keyboard
Please read previous comments..description..etc...this was explained numerous times
+Joseph Phelps jeje sorry i didn't read the description
How do you take the battery out?
Check out this video for battery removal instructions. ruclips.net/video/i96gD_AcAe0/видео.html
Hi, can you make a video on replacing a DVD-ROM Drive?
what size was the screwdriver xD
Hey, Joe, just thought you'd like to know that I upgraded my G751 to 32GB just this morning, and I'm typing this post from it right now. Thanks for the excellent tutorial, especially your explanations about the quirks of opening the keyboard and for showing clearly where all the screws are, and I can attest that it works perfectly. You da man!
Joseph- I tried to unscrew that 1st screw yesterday and once I felt I had it loose I tried to unscrew it all the way and kept getting a clicking noise with each turn but it wasn't getting any further out. Did you just yank on the underbelly portion once you got the screw loose or did the screw easily come out for you?
On mine, the screw does not come out all the way so you don't risk losing the small screw. Just unscrew it until the screw does not come out anymore and pull on the tab. If that doesn't work, your screw may be stripped.
Thanks. You were right I just applied a little more pressure and it came off...
This should work on the G751jm model, correct? It also has 8GB of RAM but in the form of 2x4GB sticks.
I have read the comments, but I want to be 100% sure... so the ASUS G751 has 4 DIMM slots for RAM-memory in total. But it does NOT support 16gb DIMMs per slot? Just 8gb DIMMS per slot? So in conclusion it is not possible to upgrade to 64gb RAM, the ASUS G751 is just capable of a total of 32gb RAM?! So if I want to have 64gb of ram I would consider buying the newer model, asus g752....!? I want to to heavy video editing with it, e.g. with Adobe After Effects, which sucks up your ram so fast. Has anyone some advice? Is 32gb enough? Will i ever reach 64gb with my compositions? Thank you all!
Sorry for replying so late but yes the G751 allows up to 32gb and the G752 is 64gb. 32gb should be plenty!
I bought this same laptop from best buy and cracked the touch screen but not the LCD. I've looked online and found the digitizer itself (with no LCD) but i'm not 100% about it since its coming from Hong Kong & geek squad says I would have to replace the LCD all together (over $400.00 USD to fix it) :( !!! Would you by any chance know if the touch digitizer alone can be replaced on this laptop! great tare down by the way! please help thank you!
+Jonathan Ramirez just buy a monitor and connect... not worth fixing if i were you
+Jonathan Ramirez or just resell
I'm not a computer pro, I just got this same 8gb laptop and want to add more RAM. With the 2 slots showing when you take the back cover plate, can't I just use one of those slots instead of taking the whole thing apart to make it 16GB. And if so, will this 8GB RAM work? If RAM can be installed this way, can I also use 2 of these and have 24GB or does it have to be 16GB or 32GB and if I did 32GB then I have t take it all apart like the video and install three 8GB's of memory. www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-12800-204-Pin-Notebook-CT102464BF160B/dp/B006YG8X9Y/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1463333707&sr=8-6&keywords=8gb+ddr3
Your ASUS laptop screen is different than other G751 models.. I don't know why. Is yours old model?
+ae vurucu Its an exclusive model at Best Buy that came with a touch screen. The trade off is it only came with 8GB.
+Joseph Phelps Thanks for your reply.
