I was having a mental debate as to whether I got this or the P37W from Gigabyte which is thinner and lighter. But having seen those noise levels, temps, the fact that this thing has a blu-ray drive and looks utterly epic, I'm going with this beast
Great video, thanks. I'm looking to buy a gaming laptop, but as it will be used in our living room, I need to get the quietest one possible. Asus seem to have the best reputation for quiet machines, and this one looks great.
Just wanted to say that I am glad you have shown this. My kids truly enjoy building computers with Daddy, and they can name all major components and have a basic idea of what they do. Most of the ones they have built are older from spare or acquired parts, but they don't care, they just enjoy the process and have pride in what they have created from boxes of parts.

I have an "old" notebook from aSus that I use for almost 2 years now.... The good thing about the money you spend with this model is that you get a true gaming laptop that will last you 3-4 years. I record dota 2 and stream with no problems on 1080p and still can play all the best games. I do not need an upgrade yet but in an year or two it will be another Asus.

This is what will make Alienware laptop lineup extinct. They are so far behind and still sell 880m for an absurd amount of price. For real though 880m is so last gen.

I have the G750JW, twice less expensive thant the G751, but the G751 looks even nicer with the metalish thing :)
I've watched a bunch of your reviews, nicely done, short and to the point.
I am in the lookout for a powerful laptop to use it mainly for 2d/3d work ... all the other asus/msi laptops i have seen so far had terrible panels in terms of color reproduction ... only shift my eyes/head 10-20cm left or right and the colors start to shift on the screen as well ... i do not expect retina display quality on these but does this new ips panel offers any improvements over the old TN panel?
I would have gone with a macbook pro , the screen is amazing but the remaining components are starting to lag behind compared to what current gaming laptops can offer in term of performance ,mainly more ram(macbook capped at 16GB) and way faster video card( 750M is highest on macbook as far as i know which is way behind 980M ).
MSI GT72 2QE is another contender but as well i am concerned about panel quality ...
So like i said, any improvements with this new IPS panel over the old TN one?

i need to know... i can hear the fan even with nothing running on their system... is that normal? ive had laptops that were silent for the first month i got them and eventually got louder so i assumed heat issue... is the sound in the background the laptop? :\ im probably worrying to much but its always been good to worry when my dell 5735 started doing it and i only had it since feb... already hadnto be sent in twice for fan issues
Hey there! I also have G751 and want to ask you something - do you suffer speakers issue? I'ts more about subwoofer than speakers. When you play some music you can hear how some parts (I think it's buttons from mousepad) are vibrating, getting into resonance which is making discomfort in full audio experience.

Thank you for posting this, great video. Have you tested the weight of it though? There are two versions online, 8.4 lbs and 11 lbs, which one is correct?
Isn't having the winding striking the db meter kind of altering the results?
Also, while I get that you probably do this for all systems, wouldn't a more helpful for the customer result be having the db sensor at least 12 inches away from the exhaust?

I'm a Lumion user and this program requires more than 6000 points on Passmark for the large projects. I know that the GTX980M scores 6564 points which is totally great, but sometimes lumion just can not detect the dedicated graphic card on laptops. I really need this laptop for my work, but I really want to be sure that it can run Lumion with the full performance before I buy it.. I will appreciate your help if you can. many thanks :)

Really like these reviews - subscribed. Any plans to do some head to heads? I would be very interested in seeing how you think this and the GT72 stack up against each other. I've watched both videos but a side by side comparison of the different aspects and seeing where one has the advantage over the other, in your opinion, would be interesting.
Did I miss something or you guys forgot to show where the speakers are? I did not see any speakers! Where is the sound in your speaker sound test coming from? And what is the wattage of the speakers?

Concerning the SSD/M.2 slot. Can you install both simultaneously or would that cause interference or other issues?
unfortunately you can't but you can buy an adapter on ebay that lets you replace the dvd drive for an extra sata port

I must say that the G75 looks better... I wished they'd go back to a stealth design... The G75 with the Nvidia GTX980M with 4GB of RAM paired up with a Intel i7 4710HQ and 24GB of System RAM will be one of the best laptops out there :)
Wish if Asus did put DisplayPort in this laptop, but that IPS monitor plus gtx980 is enough for me
there is a mini display port. weren't you paying attention. it's the thunderbolt port.

Hi, one thing that you didn't discuss was the construction and materials used on the laptop. Like, the part where we rest our palms, is it metal and does it smudge easily? Also the lid material construction and whether its a smudge magnet like some laptops.. these are minor details, but I'd like to know!
+Jean Joseph I'm using the G751JL right now. The material on the surface that the keyboard lays and the lid pick up fingerprints easily. It is annoying at first but I've unconsciouslly gotten into the habit of making sure my hands aren't greasy before I use my laptop. The newer model G752 has an aluminum construction if you wan't to spend the extra $. After a few months the fingerprints don't bother me any more.

Does this laptop have any heating or noise problems?
There older models also vented from the top under were the screen is. Not sure if same with this model. Which could also be why they don't have a lot of vent under neath as well as why it stays cool.

I bought an Asus rog g771jw 17.3, are these basically the same?, ive heard somebody say that it is very similar
what i don't understand is why you guys allow buyers to customize the model you want, but don't allow the the 980m with the 8gb's of gddr5? i mean the 980m with 4gb's is great, but if you are going to allow buyers to customize, why limit what they can buy? you're leaving money on the table. i just bought a g751jy from you guys. i got the ic diamond compound on the cpu and gpu, and i went with the full 32gb's of 1866mhz Crucial Ballistix Sport. and i would have upgraded to the higher 980m if you offered it.

This review is incorrect, that is an ASUS ROG G751JT with the i7 4710 cpu which has the GTX970M gpu, not the GTX980M which is in the ASUS ROG G751JY with the i7 4860 cpu. Also too Asus is pronounced *Ace-us*, there is no E in Asus, It isn't spelt Asues like the greek God Zues which is how you are saying it... If you are going to do a review on their product the least you can do is learn how to say their brands name correctly. Asus literally make the best hardware in the world, they deserve more respect.
If you pay attention, lots of people pronounce it "Asues"

Actually, there is a model with the 980m that has the i7 4710hq. Also, if you watch the entire video there is gpu-z information which proves the laptop has the 980m in it. The difference between the 980m version and the 970m version is the thickness and the vents. The 980m versions have larger vents on the back as well as the red accents. As far as the way he pronounces asus I'm not going to argue with you but it's a large company that is international so people are obviously going to say it differently in different regions of the world. Just because you say it differently doesn't mean he's saying it wrong. It's a name, and just like many names people pronounce the same name differently.

Actually the the 980M 4GB gpu comes with 2 processor models.i7-4710HQ and the stronger i7-4860HQ,so you are totally wrong about this:) And!,im not saying the 970m is not paired with the same i7-4710HQ,but the 980m can be bought with i7-4710HQ too.If anyone whats evidence,just check xoticpc's offer.

the look is not cool, but the specs on this rog are amazing, nut i prefer the old look because it had a jet/lamborghini look on it, so glad i got asus rog g750jw before asus stopped selling them.

I hear the G750 is better than the G751.
G751 is an all round upgrade over the g750. Although both are great. Go with g751 if you want great performance and g750 if you're a bit more money conscience.
