Thanks for the video! Just two small notes: 1. There is no need to remove the hardrives, just the screws that are on the plastic which are marked with the code M2.5X5. 2. There is no need to remove the ribbon cables either. Just move the keyboard/cover gently so that you can confortably remove the screen screws and the battery plug under it.

Reading through the comments and I completely agree. I can't believe how insane this is. I have the same laptop with a GTX 980m. Not looking forward to this. What is interesting though is that the previous model did have a super easy removable battery. Just press a release button and out popped the battery. I guess they fired that guy...
totally agree, we should all just refuse to buy any laptop that doesn't have an easily removable battery, this is utterly ridiculous. Removing or replacing a battery should take more than 10 seconds.
@@ashk9105 for the most part yes! I must have messed up slightly when putting it back together because my keyboard isn't backlit anymore, but everything else works out perfectly. I'm sure if I took it apart again I'd see that I forgot to attach a wire when reassembling but it's not a huge deal to me so I call it a success.
You’re a lifesaver. Followed the video to the T, and This entire process was soooooo much more difficult than it had to be. I hate everyone involved with the decision to make the battery more inaccessible than a freaking motherboard smh.
Thanks to your video I was able to not just swap out my dead battery, I also replaced my dying wifi card (Intel 7260, swapped out for a 9260) and cleaned out all the dust. For those curious: yes, you do need to disassemble nearly everything Chris shows (including removing the DVD drive; you need access to remove the screws underneath it to be able to pop out the keyboard). The only exceptions are the hard drives and keyboard ribbon cables. Popping off the keyboard is easier than it looks (make sure you remove all the screws in the video, especially the 3 under the DVD drive!). NOTE: There are 3 gold-colored screw nuts under the keyboard that correspond to where the 3 DVD screws screw into. One of mine fell out when I popped the keyboard out, but they're easy to push back in. Make sure the flat side faces out if you do have to push it back in. Finally, make sure the little lock tabs for the ribbon cables pressed flat before you close everything up. Love this gaming laptop all these years later, but man, ASUS really did make it a pain to service. Still, don't be intimidated, as this is just time-consuming rather than truly technical. Have a good electronics mat handy to keep the parts organized as you go, and you're all set!

Hey Chris - 4 year old vid but still relevant and reliable. Thank you! My G751J was purchased in 2015, only recently developed the battery won't charge issue. Replacement batt from AMZ, $36. Take care when moving the monitor forward - I accidentally disconnected it from the board. Just two pins and a ribbon cable to reconnect but was worth 2 secs of near panic.
Seems like everything before the screen hinge removal is unnecessary... no need to pull the HDs, no need to pull the keyboard or DVD. Why not just remove the speaker assy, the screen hinges, and go from there? UPDATE: I did this. Yes, you have to remove the keyboard to get to the screws that secure the battery. If it weren't for where these are located, or if Asus had simply put some holes in the plastic, then switching out the battery would be simple. Follow the instructions in the video.
This was a bigger pain than it needed to be, hdd removal was unnecessary but my god all the screws, the generation before this line of Asus lappies you just had to in do two screws press one button then slide a tab on the battery and it just popped out.
I changed the motherboard, with a slightly upgraded GPU. Now it's time for the battery. But I still absolutely love this laptop. Heavy AF but probably still out performs most laptops in the market. Great video 👍
Installed my battery today, not as bad as expected. Didn't have to remove the hard drive or unhook the ribbons for the keyboard, can just slide the keyboard out of the way and get to the battery. Battery charging and the computer actually starts on the first try now and doesn't crash. Next step, adding ram and figuring out how I can transfer my games and install windows 10 to a SSD.
great laptop had it for many years travelling the world with it, it has even survived several drops to the ground, one drop though killed the entire screen, so now i use only the computer case with a big 24 inch screen. of course i bought a new Asus G751J as my new "laptop" so now i have two :D

I’ve got the same laptop with a gtx970 in it. It’s been a really good machine. I stopped buying laptops because even their top MacBook Pro couldn’t run a 14 year old game. This laptop was 500$ less than the and smoking fast.
@@SierzantYelonek I had to replace the entire motherboard in mine and as I remember the GPU is embedded in the motherboard. My guess is you'd had to find a motherboard with a new GPU that fits

My battery stays at 0% and computer goes into hibernation mode when starting games...if I remove battery completely and run AC plug only will this fix issue?
great video... got everything put back together but now the screen isnt working. verified cables are connected (was very careful with everything). Plugged it into a TV and all i have is the mouse pointer that moves around on a black screen. maybe I need to pop the keyboard off and re-check cables.
You think thats bad.I have and Aorus laptop and the damn battery is glued into place.It took me 2 hours of prying and sliding a plastic card to remove mine.I miss my oil toshiba.Just left 2 pins and out it goes.

Thats because Asus are following Apple in the production line by closing batteries inside hoping people are too stupid to replace them so they'll go out and buy a new machine instead. It pisses me off because thats a standard fucking removal battery that you have to take apart the entire machine to get to.

I hate to be that guy but I'm going to be. You don't need to remove the hard drive and you don't need to undo the ribbons under the keyboard. Just move the keyboard slightly out of the way and it should work.

I purchased this exact machine 5 years ago. Less than a month out of warranty, my battery died. Had I'd known what I know now, I would have never purchased this laptop. Monster machine that could have had a removable battery like the rest on the market. Money making design flaw.
First and last Asus laptop, my battery wouldn't charge to full after a year of owning it and now the pos wont charge at all even though it says it is charging. will have to order a battery and give this a go.
I just used this guide to replace the battery on my laptop and I have to say I was very stressed.. I managed to pull out the screen completely, but after attaching the 2 small connections and the one large one it seemed to do the trick... after replacing the battery, I have to say it stays on battery for a while but it turns off after a minute or so... the battery is charging and it says it's at 40% but still turns off after a few seconds. I will try to charge it to full and cycle it a few times, see if that helps... I wonder if buying the battery a year ago and not installing it until now would be the problem. Anyway... thank you for your tutorial!!!
Hello Sergiu, I am also experiencing the same issue. I replaced the battery in the first place because it would not stay on unless always plugged into the charger. Now that I have replaced the battery it will stay on for a minute without being plugged in then immediately hard shuts down. Were you ever able to resolve this issue?
@@akismakrakis Hi. I left the laptop charging for a lot and then left it running for 4 hours until the battery drained. It seems to be a problem with windows not displaying the correct status of the battery so leave it charging even if it’s showing 100%. So for me it works fine but it still dies sometimes at a random value below 10%. Not working like it should, but better then no battery.
@@sergiu87arh Hey Sergiu thank you for letting me know your fix for this! I think I found a solution that worked for me. I needed a BIOS update as I never have done this. So mine was dated as 3/24/15. I have updated to the newest update that I was able to find on asus’ webpage. I have left it on just the battery playing a 4K video for a couple hours and appears to working properly!! So now I’m wondering if my original battery was bad or I just needed a BIOS update this whole time. Because I couldn’t use the laptop unless it was plugged in.
Hi there! I have a problem, after I put everything back together, I turn on the laptop for 20seconds and then it turns off itself, any ideas on what could be wrong?
The reason I have to replace my battery is so that I can update my bios. A working battery is required to update the bios. The reason I have to update my bios is because my laptop shuts itself down by itself. It is not as bad as 20 seconds. Sometimes it stays on for a while. But updating the bios might help you.
I changed the battery but when taking the screen off 2 wires a white with red and a black one appeared coming from the opposite side of the speaker wire. I dont know where they go please help.
My G751J just started to shut off shortly after I power it up, looks like it's because the battery is old and no longer hold any charge, and the laptop just shuts off when there's no charge in the battery? Are you replacing the battery because of the same reason?

Eventually, the AC power wont matter anymore.
When it comes time to update you BIOS, we are required to have a working battery.

Hi there! I have a problem, after I put everything back together, I turn on the laptop for 20seconds and then it turns off itself, any ideas on what could be wrong?
The reason I have to replace my battery is so that I can update my bios. A working battery is required to update the bios. The reason I have to update my bios is because my laptop shuts itself down by itself. It is not as bad as 20 seconds. Sometimes it stays on for a while. But updating the bios might help you.

I changed the battery but when taking the screen off 2 wires a white with red and a black one appeared coming from the opposite side of the speaker wire. I dont know where they go please help.

About to replace the battery for the second time in four years.
My G751J just started to shut off shortly after I power it up, looks like it's because the battery is old and no longer hold any charge, and the laptop just shuts off when there's no charge in the battery? Are you replacing the battery because of the same reason?
@nougan_tanker hey! I don't know yet if the battery is the cause but I suspect it is with mine. Same issue
@@funlover163 The battery has a design defect or so. I'm on my third one and it's already bad. It can't hold power for 10 mins if unplugged.
Getting down, a lot of screwing around for sure.
MICHAEL BRADDOCK lots of tiny screws of different sizes and length, it’s a challenge to put the screws back in the correct spot.
