1:50 NGL, I expected the Old Man to suddenly start singing. 🎵"Yes, I can't lie! I have painted my schween. Now grab your destiny, _if you know what I mean_ !" 🎵
This is pretty good for a one man job! A couple comments, though: In Zelda parlance, what you are collecting here are Heart Containers. A Heart Container adds an additional heart to your health meter. A Piece of Heart is a different item; collecting four Pieces of Heart creates a Heart Container. Pieces of Heart didn't exist until the third game. Also bosses never drop Pieces of Heart, always Heart Containers. A game reaches the Beta stage when it is "Content Complete"; ie there is nothing significant left to add to the game (dungeons, enemies, systems, extra features, etc) and all that remains is the process replacing placeholder assets, making adjustments to content, systems, and gameplay, improving code, implementing music, dialog and cutscenes, squashing bugs, etc. The dungeons and areas and stuff don't have to be in their final forms, but they should all more or less be THERE. Obviously I can't see everything you've done from this one video, but it really seems more like it's probably in the Alpha stage, which is when you're past prototyping and have begin to develop content but the game isn't "complete" yet. Basically prototyping is when you're figuring out what to make and how, Alpha is the production of content, and Beta is when the game is "complete" but not "finished". If you can't play your game normally beginning to end (minus game-breaking bugs) you're not in Beta. Beta ends with the release version, which is always 1.0 (sometimes there's an update between finishing 1.0 and the actual release date, but that's rare for indies lol) I must say I don't hate the challenge rooms for the dungeon items! That's quite a nice way to add a little "something" to a remake without completely redesigning the classic dungeons. Though this one does seem to be quite long and confusing for the first dungeon; this seems more like a 3rd or 4th dungeon. I could say more about various things, but it's all nitpicks that can be easily cleaned up/improved later so for now I'll just say "fiddly controls are usually seen as a frustrating speedbump more than a fun challenge, don't overdo the careful walking segments" and leave it at that. Instead, I will echo other sentiments in these comments and say be very careful publicizing this further or releasing any more footage until it's good and ready. This really is good progress for a one man show, and I would hate to see it go under, but far lesser projects than this have been crushed under the heel of Nintendo's all-stomping boot. From one game dev to another, good luck friend!

@aleksoctop So you dont think if there were hundreds of Zelda games out there, like hundreds of porn Zelda games or super violent ones, that that does nothing to the brand? Of course that would damage the image. Thats what I mean by controlling the narrative.
@@doggity5149 Not at all. You are out of touch with modern gaming, because you're probably over 35 or 40 and you don't game a whole lot. Modding and fanmaking games is literally an everyday thing today. Absolutely no company goes against it and and some even make their games more mod-friendly.
Absolutely incredible work. I hope all the best for you and this project. Wish more games would get a face-lift. The blend of new to the old is wonderful. Keep up the great work.
this is awesome, it almost looks official! The only things keeping it from really looking official is the intro (since almost every zelda game starts with link being asleep), and some of the animations (like how link look straight forward while holding up the sword instead of up at it), but it's an early beta so I assume those parts just aren't done yet.
There should be some intro cutscenes to modernise it. I think it should be treated like breath of the wild than other 2D Zelda to keep the openness of the game. Even the puzzle rooms can be terminal-based
Actually, as good as it looks it kind of looks like it was made in a 3D game animation software for beginners, with basic texture assets that were just chosen from a pop-up menu instead of hand-made. It still looks like it took a lot of work but it doesn't have the look of a professional game studio.
I like how this isn't just a remake, but an entire expansion in concept when compared to the original. Instead of litigation, Nintendo, if they see this, should buy it once it's done, and put it on the Switch market as is. The general public would love it
Not only is this amazing work, but you managed to keep my 2 year old laughing the whole way through. I'm not sure what he thought was so funny, but hey!
@nirgunawish a creepy pasta called Ben drowned, if you wanted to check it out. There's one with a video of "a haunted MM cart" and someone reading the creepy pasta here on RUclips.
This is really promising. I'm usually not a big fan of remakes like this because people usually underestimate the effort that goes into it, while being constantly feeling the limitations of the original game. However, you guys seem to be mindful of all that and add extra stuff where possible! If you're open for criticism, here's two things that stick out to me: 1. The intro with the cave where you have to find the sword is fantastic, great idea. However, for a first challenge (and maybe even one that serves as a soft tutorial similar to what the Game Boy games did!) it's comparatively tough. Pushing blocks in a certain pattern and a tightrope walk with spikes is overdoing it a bit. It feels a bit like you're designing this game for people who played the original a few dozen times. That's totally valid, but I think the better approach would be to treat this game like the original - the first Zelda game anyone could have ever played. I think this will make for a much smoother, gradual experience. You're free to add extra dungeons towards the end that really challenge players! This applies to stuff outside the gameplay too (for example, you don't HAVE to keep in stuff like "EAST PENINSULA IS THE KEY" just because it was in the original and it became inadvertently iconic. It doesn't really add much to your game.) 2. The area underneath Level 1 with the water puzzle is mind-blowing, I really, really love it! That's a fantastic idea to play with expectations, as well as adding fun content for veterans. However, I think it would benefit from scaling down. It's such a vast area with not much in between that it almost feels out of place of the game. The fact that it's an open area and not "room by room" like the rest of the dungeon is already pushing it and one of the biggest beauties of the original game was that it was so small while bursting at the seams with content. I think the game would benefit from keeping that concept - both with the overall game and new areas like these. (Also, the tightrope walk parts don't seem that much fun. Falling down and starting over is often times pretty frustrating. Maybe a maze or something would be better?) Great stuff though, I'm really excited for this. Keep it up!
This is amazing. Good job, and no matter what happens to this video, know that you've done something Nintendo should have done themselves a long time ago. Again, this is awesome.
I wouldn't call it a true re-make, but an excellent job on the animation and gameplay! It looks like it would be a lot of fun to play. The Level 1 fight against Aquamentus was impressive, and the changes to the look and feel of the underworld were impressive. The animation on Aquamentus, the 3 shooting fires, the fight, and falling rock, and the charge into the wall were a really great addition to the game. Excellent work! I would definitely love to play this game!
First off: I love the passion and have nothing negative to say about this. Second off: I always considered breath of the wild as sort of a remake because of how free and j restricted everything was
People talk about lawyers and suing...how naïve you are! This is free advertising for big N. They allowed that Ocarina shit remake from a guy who is also taking money from Patreon...free advertising, guys. Big N just shuts down projects where they think they will lose money.

I'm absolutely in awe. I was a die hard fan of the original - this looks beyond awesome! I do wish you woulda stayed more true to the original overworld music, but otherwise this is a slam dunk in every way. Well done!
I need this in my life immediately! While A Link to the Past has always been my favorite, this brings me back but better! I love the animation when defeating enemies especially in caves! Beautiful!
Man, one of the many many reasons why Wind Waker is my favorite is its sound effects. That jingle for when you start playing your file is just pure Zelda magic. Awesome work!
You did such an amazing job! There are so many fun new features for people like me who would like to go back to the original and experience it with a modern twist. The first tutorial level is a fantastic introduction that doesn’t feel forced and starts with a funny gag. I wasn’t expecting the underground extension to the first dungeon, it made the palace feel so much more grand and expansive, very well put together. Aquamentus got pimped-up and got some new flashy moves as well! If you don’t mind a suggestion I would consider hiding the heart pieces behind secret entrances or more challenging mini dungeons to make them feel more valuable. The original was all about searching and exploration, it wasn’t easy to find the pieces. And possibly it could be a cool idea to hide the map from the player at first and let them discover/buy map pieces to reveal the world as they progress? I hope you’ll continue working on the project. It looks very promising!
Fantastic! I would absolutely buy and play this - along with Link To The Past. I honestly don't understand why Nintendo haven't done this with all the old Zeldas. This is wonderful work. Does not feel like a fan project at all. Exceptionally well done!
This is an absolutely gorgeous creation. A modern take that remains faithful to the original. I like how the camera is positioned at an angle, opposed to a full-on top down view.
Recently I have made a playlists for the Japanese Actors/Actresses that were hired by Nintendo to lend their voices for the many different incarnation of Link over the years because I always wanted to know what would their personalities be and voices sound like if they were given Dialogue and while I haven’t found more videos for some of these actors various different roles throughout their careers I was lucky to find ones that are available so I can share it with community especially with the upcoming Zelda Movie because we all know that whoever is going to be Link in the film they are gonna have him speak but hey this is why the playlists exist so fans can hear the grunts and screams from our childhoods. It's funny how both 2D Zelda and traditional 3D Zelda got pushed aside for Open Air Zelda. I hope they realise one day that the old style of games still have a lot of value
@@Keaninethe ideal outcome would be to have both kinds of Zelda games released together.
@@tanuki01 Definitely, Id like to see them release smaller old style Zelda games in-between the big open air releases
This whole comment thread seems to be forgetting Link's awakening remake
@@DeffoZappo Link's Awakening remake is great, but it's a remake. We also got an upgraded port of Skyward Sword, but those are both games we've played before
You made one of the classic blunders, publicizing a zelda project before releasing it complete to the public. The only greater blunder, is to get involved in a land war in Asia.
Inconceivable!
Or go against a Sicilian when death is on the line....😁
Nintendo: "Remember, no Japanese..."
he'd have better odds invading Russia during the Winter then ever seeing this to release before Nintendo hits em with a cease and desist.
As you wish...
Well done. I like the fast puzzle block movements. In a game like this, moving puzzle blocks has to be efficient (and it is!). Nice work.
Nintendo would make sooooo much money if they made something like this
They’d might as well let fans create content for them while they make the money selling it. I would LOVE to work on Kirby Air Ride Online, more city maps
Can't have that. They have more characters to turn into transformers.
Nintendo makes a lot of money without this tbh. This is nice and hope it stays around.
Nintendo make a smart business decision? This isn't the 90's.
They did, though? They already greenlit two remakes of NES Legend of Zelda. The first (BS Legend of Zelda) was for the Super Famicom (with Satellaview add on), and the second (on GBC) evolved into Oracle of Seasons. And they haven't shown themselves averse to doing more Zelda remakes (look at OoT and MM 3D, Link's Awakening on Switch, TWW/TP/SS HD...)
I would recognize WW menu sound effects anywhere
There’s also some Ocarina of Time ones here and there. And also Wind Waker sounds for other stuff in the game like collecting an item or heart piece
Some sounds are from Four Swords Adventures.
Also the doors opening and some of the music I think
And link between worlds
I was thinking that too.
Géniaaaaa !!! J'adoooore !!!

Best "Zelda in Unreal Engine" Game so far, i really don't like the other Attempts, they just have no Soul.
This is so much better.
But don't you love overly use of Bloom? That's what everyone seems to think is in.

Ah the game of grumps! Always a classic!
3:48 old man: so that's a no on the hand job?
Hah wasn't just me who thought this then
It's good to know that the legend lives
This is pretty good for a one man job! A couple comments, though:
In Zelda parlance, what you are collecting here are Heart Containers.
Beta ends with the release version, which is always 1.0 (sometimes there's an update between finishing 1.0 and the actual release date, but that's rare for indies lol)
I must say I don't hate the challenge rooms for the dungeon items!
Nice novel
@@markconiglio7769 It's called information. Educated people utilize it.
I had a lot of the same comments, so thank you for sharing my thoughts. I too really like the concept of adding the extra challenge rooms.
Nintendo employee: We found another one!
Nintendo Shadowy Figure: Launch the Nukes. We can't afford to have the fans happy with their own fan games. They have to be happy with OUR games EXACTLY as how WE made them. Yes, this includes mods. Any deviation from what we Nintended is to be Ninended.
Yeah, crazy that a company who created the narrative wants to stay in control of the narrative....
@@doggity5149 Nintendo agent spotted
@aleksoctop So you dont think if there were hundreds of Zelda games out there, like hundreds of porn Zelda games or super violent ones, that that does nothing to the brand? Of course that would damage the image. Thats what I mean by controlling the narrative.
@@artysalt No, just logically thinking guy
@@doggity5149 Not at all. You are out of touch with modern gaming, because you're probably over 35 or 40 and you don't game a whole lot. Modding and fanmaking games is literally an everyday thing today. Absolutely no company goes against it and and some even make their games more mod-friendly.
this looks amazing already! i hope this projects gets really far
Absolutely incredible work. I hope all the best for you and this project. Wish more games would get a face-lift. The blend of new to the old is wonderful. Keep up the great work.
I can see the love for the game, very good job .Lots of talent 😮..Just blew my socks off..
this is awesome, it almost looks official!
This is an amazing job. I love all the creativity and thought that went into this. The first dungeon looked really good!
I like how this isn't just a remake, but an entire expansion in concept when compared to the original. Instead of litigation, Nintendo, if they see this, should buy it once it's done, and put it on the Switch market as is. The general public would love it
Me: Mom, can we get some Zelda music?
Mom: No, we have Zelda music at home.
The Zelda music at home:
And it actually hyRULES tho
For me this is perfect for making it sound close yet different enough to try to keep Nintendo off there back...
The music is really good though. Avoided all the typical zelda themes and still sounds like it belongs
yeah it blows
Changing the music won't keep Nintendo off their backs... 😂 It's super high quality work, but it doesn't do it for me personally
This is exactly what I want in a remake. Bravo!
I love the addition of other Legend of Zelda game ideas like the power spin attack to this and remade dungeons. Looks very fun!
This is AMAZING!!!! I would love to play it someday.
Keep up the great work!
Not only is this amazing work, but you managed to keep my 2 year old laughing the whole way through. I'm not sure what he thought was so funny, but hey!
I bet it was the sound Link makes hahahaha
That's a good sign right there that this is something special!

@ 1:38 does anyone else here that sounds like Voice saying "I HATE YOU"🤔
This is really promising. I'm usually not a big fan of remakes like this because people usually underestimate the effort that goes into it, while being constantly feeling the limitations of the original game. However, you guys seem to be mindful of all that and add extra stuff where possible!
If you're open for criticism, here's two things that stick out to me:
1. It doesn't really add much to your game.)
2. Maybe a maze or something would be better?)
Great stuff though, I'm really excited for this. Keep it up!
My thoughts exactly.
This is excellent!! Probably would be my favorite Zelda game of all time as the first one is..never thought I would see it refined this much!
I really like the lighting and shaders you use. Fantastic work.
I like how you're going for the Link's Awakening 2019 style here !
This is absolutely incredible. Excellent work!
This is amazing. Good job, and no matter what happens to this video, know that you've done something Nintendo should have done themselves a long time ago. Again, this is awesome.
Y'all need to keep these things private until they're completely done bro you're just asking for it to be taken down now
I wouldn't call it a true re-make, but an excellent job on the animation and gameplay!
What about the cool laser sword when you have full health?
Maybe with a upgraded sword
If I was Nintendo, I would instantly hire you and buy this incredibile piece of work… Maybe adding some lore to it would be amazing
This is great. I wish Nintendo embraced this instead of taking it down. It is beautiful. I enjoy it while it lasts.
Love this. While this is a little before my time/interest I'm really enjoying just watching it being played. 😊🤘🏻 100/10 Dude, don't stop.
Imagine most of Nintendo doesn't even care it's just a few of their lawyers trying to keep busy on their job. Like they keep a list of sacrificial stuff to go after later for when their work is slow 😂
*I normally DESPISE personal renditions of Zelda games. But you had me smiling from ear-to-ear when I saw the opening with the sword master. Then, the obstacle course to get the seord.*
*VERY unique and well thought out. Excellent design and execution. Seems like a legit Nintendo title.*
Alright, I grew up with the Zelda franchise and I absolutely love what you've done so far. Keep up the amazing work!
This video has been up for nine days and Nintendo hasn’t had it struck down yet? I guess no one told them about this video. 😆
I think this game would have more potential if you remove all Zelda things and just make your own universe
It worked for Tunic.
that is what most fan games miss, just make it your own and nintendo can't do anything (as long as it isn't just a reskin)
This looks awesome, you are doing a massively great job. I look forward to when you have finished the whole game!
This is looking good tho it probably will be at risk how common Cease and Desist is nowdays which it immimiat happen which is a good concept of what zelda 1 remake would look like
I'm absolutely in awe.
Beautiful!
Holy shyt it looks ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! You did this all on your own?! Bro you have a BRIGHT feature in front of you!!!!
Oh man, i love how this looks! Also LOL at the Ben file, nice reference!
This is awesome! I would love to see a remake like this. Fantastic job!!!
PS as A game developer/systems designer in the industry, and a massive Zelda fan my entire life, this is SO inspiring. Thank you so much 🙂
This is AWESOME! I remember playing this back in the day. I still listen to the open screen music now and then.
Very well done. String notes of nostalgia. Love it.

I also made one for the Japanese VA’s for Zelda as well!
