I have a Santana Anibal. Looks very similar. Can drive it around on mountain trails and through fields with no worries. Quite brilliant off-road. But it is terrible on the road.
Best of everything into one. Love the "physical" switches, buttons, and the roof top controls for the off road. Everything is systematically placed. It's so good to have the buttons, rather than searching and digging into a touch screen based set up. Steering wheel can be improvised. And also, would love to see analogue gauges, speedo, rpm, temp, battery, oil level etc, for the driver please! 😁
I totally agree. I so dislike touch screens on new models. Those are for soccer moms. Buttons are for real man! No disrespect for ladies that are practical like us. Is just that buttons always work better when you are off road or concentrated on driving. As you should.

There is a large market out there for a body on frame utility vehicle. One that is designed to survive being a work tool. They MUST get the reliability right. It needs to start every time. Bits must not drop off. Maintenance needs to be affordable and simple.
They had the right idea by buying an existing, working factory (and the workforce with it). Getting production going is where most upstart car manufacturers fail.

My Land Rovers are all Series or Defenders. I am currently looking at the possibility of purchasing a new Defender, but I'm not completely sold on them. I just want a basic, utilitarian vehicle that keeps it as simple as possible with longevity. I had thought that Land Rover had no option in this day and age but to leave the classic Series/Defender shape behind, but the Ineos Grenadier appears to have managed to create the vehicle that I wish Land Rover had evolved the Defender into. I'm quite conflicted with which way I'm going to go! I'll be very interested to see what their pricing and availability is in Australia. Phil - Queensland, Australia.
Sadly Land Rover created a new 'plastic' Defender, OK for the school run or the tranquil green lanes of England, but it's very debatable if it will ever be successful in the 'real' 4x4 market because of its design and huge dependency on electronics. The Grenadier seems to be something very different and looks like it will be properly 'ruggedised' to take the punishment of offroading /overlanding in some pretty remote and multi-terrain parts of the world. I certainly know what I will be spending my money on.

Also conveniently he won't be hit by customs costs & paperwork due to importing components to a British factory, also the massive shortage of HGV drivers wont bother him either, happy days.
ps have you got you British blue passport manufactured in Poland by a Franco/Dutch company yet???
(ending the chat now as you can't reason with 'doff your cap & tug your forlock types:)
This seems to be a more than capable vehicle the idea of taking the best from individual manufacturers, and boxing it all up into one vehicle makes sense and should reduce the cost of research down ,keep up the good work
The cherry on the top would have been if they could have had this built in the UK.
Land Rover Jaguar might throw a tantrum and kill this fledging star if it’s built in uk
The UK is now finished as a manufacturing country. All of the uneducated and stupid people who voted for Brexit are now going to receive democracy 'good and hard' up their collective arses.
Still. Brexit was good for French manufacturing.
@@horsenuts1831 As if our manufacturing sector didn't collapse to almost nothing well before 2016. Short memories...

No this was the cake that was lost. Its also a shame to have done the engineering in Germany too.
The times I’ve eaten my takeaway dinner off the wing off my old Land Rover when I’ve been busy at work…
Prawn sandwiches?

As always a brilliant review. Thanks
Lets just hope they can make enough for the demand.... me want
As a previous Defender 110 owner, I find this vehicle the perfect continuation of the much regretted Defender. At least speaking for myself here, this is what Land Rover should have done to perpetuate this phenomenal vehicle. I find the Grenadier absolutely beautiful in out, very well thought out and laid out, and I do not doubt that it will quickly become a hot seller. Bravo Ineos, excellent job.
A masterclass in presenting design without saying you ripped off someone else’s work 😂
Exactly! And the presenter? I would’ve struggled to not go: “c’mon man!! Don’t BS me! Look at that thing! D E F E N D E R !” But he’s British, and he would preemptively apologized for his outburst or as he did, go along with it not trying to offend his host ...
All in all. I love it. For all the details and most of all the fact a billionaire can come up with a car he knows people at the bottom of Olympus might share his dreams to have a car that does it all, within a price range not too offensive. Tip hat, really!
Well technically it's not their work anymore. Land Rover took Ineos to court over it and they actually lost the rights to the old Defender design 😂😂😂😂😂. To be honest though it looks way better than any Defender and looks like it has Jeep Wrangler level capability 😎
No one is saying its not the real new defender,
@@henryintheuk It's not the real new Defender though is it? The new Defender is the new Defender, this is a copy of the old Defender with a new powertrain.
The New Defender is a really good car, it isn't identicle to the last one, but nobody bought the old one (which is why it was discontinued).
This has to be a lot better than the old Defender because otherwise it will just pick up the terrible sales figures from the old Defender.
Who ripped who off? Series I from the Willys Jeep? 70 Series ripped the Defender? Land Cruiser ripped Range Rover? G-Wagen ripped Defender? Grenadier ripped them all!!!!
The best Grenadier introduction that I have yet seen. That little gem of a question Toby Ecuyer received from the grey man about switchable brake lights touches at the level of control prospective users want. Many's the time as a firefighter I've wanted to chop the wires on a Toyota 'door open' bonger .
"I know the bloody door's open. I opened it and I'm smart enough to shut it when I want to go somewhere."
If ONLY there was a manual 'box I'd have put my money down already.
Canceled two Bronco day one reservations to wait for this. I hope they make it happen in the US market.
They might struggle to get there coz of a whole lot of fed regs
They are neither on the pre-approved list for US import nor on the pending list for imports. They haven't even made a working production model yet, so far all they have is non-road legal prototypes. I like the concept of this vehicle but I think it will still be a few years before you buy it even in the EU, much less the US.

@@Jack-yl7cc yup. I can only dream of having a modern defender type car instead of spending $80k on a 25 year old beat up defender here in the US. hopefully they make this happen.
I doubt that unless you were at the bottom of the list.
@@larrym1112 you realize they are pricing this at 75k starting price here in the US.
Man this would be an overlanders dream here Stateside. I would absolutely love one.
Not really. The new Bronco will be good
@@JeepCherokeeful I've been in the new Bronco here in Texas, and it didn't really do much for me to be honest. Incredibly capable to be sure when properly equipped, just not my flavor.
@@nottherealjk what’s better?! Besides the availability situation, seems top notch in USA
@@JeepCherokeeful Really depends on what you want to use it for. We rode in it at Hidden Falls outside Austin and it was super capable on 35's on pretty technical trails, but for me the interior wasn't a place I'd like to spend in an overland situation. My neighbors TJ Jeep hung with it just as well but I assume the jeep wouldn't nearly be as nice on the highway. I have a '19 4Runner which is almost perfect for me but it could stand to be a bit bigger and I would always love more mileage per tank, but I can't hang quite as well rock crawling. I suppose it just depends on what you're looking for.
I get it, daily use outweighs overlanding fun, and looking cool capabilities.
The friendly horn is my favourite feature. So simple!
Henry is really channelling his inner Attenborough in this one.
Unfortunately, there will never be a field-serviceable petrol/diesel car again because of the ever-increasing emissions standards. The Grenadier shape looks like it will be a seller, but the complex mechanics and electrics make it a technician-serviceable car and that limits its application in rugged remote areas.
totally agree with this, the last field serviceable engine from Landrover was the 300Tdi and thats all you see in Africa unless its a Series, shame in a way the future is not better
@@bent5980 Depends on which side of the exhaust you are :D
ISIS uses 40 series Land Cruisers, because they are serviceable by their men.
Surely 'the military' will source something safe from electromagnetic warfare - perhaps Lord Jim has an order up his sleeve already, wink-wink!
I reluctantly sold my old Landrover Defender when I emmigrated from Blighty. Loved that car, but since they don't sell in the USA, (because of lack of modern things like airbags etc) I've had to resign myself to future without this iconic offroader in it... until now.... this car is going to ROCK the US industry filled with G-Wagons and Wranglers. Can't wait to see this in person :)
Wow- a manual transmission away from perfection - what we wanted the new Defender to be. I’d seriously buy one if they get sold here in the US.
The US and UK is expected to be 70% of their market. So I think it is save to say you will get them in the US. Interesting to see how it will compete with the new Bronco and the Wrangler.
Great looking car with a great car companies engine, looks promising
The BMW engine is the worst thing about it. BMW have probably about the least reliable engines these days
@@stevec6427 so you even do research mate.
BMW does have the same engine for each car model. You really think they are using a city car engine?
They are aparently using the more reliable v6 engines they have or the diesel engine which is also aparentyly very reliable.
@@stevec6427 Im sorry to say this Martin but I don't think you know what your talking about and I don't think you have ever owned a BMW. I have owned diesel BMW's for the last 15 years and I have been changing the oil and oil filter every 6000 miles and a full service once a year and ive had no problems. My family have always owned Mercedes and its the same story. German engineering is outstanding
Excellent, new concept. Aircraft style electrical panels on the roof and dashboard. Well thought. No one has done this before. I love that style. Hope other manufactures will follow this design.
Great video, love watching this 4x4 come to life, I hope I can afford one when they get to the Aussie shores👍🍻
Defender, cloned.genetically engineered to look beautiful, strong and useful…good job..I would love to drive one.👍🏻👍🏻

Thank you, Ineos, for saving the Defender!
"Toot" love it!
Me, too! Would have loved to hear it!
Why didn't you press it, @Henry Catchpole?
Chitty bang bang comes to mind - that was all bout inventing and new ideas ;)
Toot, toot... Ahh stuff it - HONK!
Yes, that's so simple but clever and useful. Hopefully other car makers take that on.
Should've been "PARP"!
Incredible. Much like the new Lotus, they've taken all the best parts from other and now older cars, made each one of those better with the end user in mind. It's more versatile, useable, better wearing, better to live with and in quite a pretty package. Versatility is beautiful in itself. This will sell incredibly well.
You had me at 'toot'..! 😂 Love the exterior and interior! The styling is amazing! If the price in the US is $65,000 to no more than $75,000 I'm in!
I absolutely love it, maybe in 20 years or so I will be able to afford one.
In 20 years... If there's still a place to buy petrol/diesel from, for a reasonable price.
Apart from that, I kind of understand Toyota's gamble with hydrogen engines. The enthusiasm surrounding electric vehicles might be premature. It's a shame that European manufacturers fall for electrification of the automotive industry like they fell for screens and overloading their products with touch-shit.
I wish all the best to the Ineos team and hope they won't miss the opportunity for development.
In 2041 you will have trouble buying fossil fuels. The electric revolution is moving fast and this thing will look out of date before it hits the market. Tesla, Rivian, Ford, GM, Bollinger are all launching electric powered ATVs over the next year. Mr. Fracking Atkinson will have to think again about motive power.
@@kiae-nirodiariesencore4270 the agricultural industry will keep fossil fuels going for a long long time.
@@jamespollock9001 Two things on that. Firstly the process for getting the raw materials out of crude to make fertilisers is separate from the refning process to make petrol and diesel. Second thing is legislation which will regulate harder and harder again the use of fossil fuels in ground transportation until it becomes uneconomic..As an EV driver I can say the TCO for electric vehicles is a revelation which more and more a realising. Two years ago Ev sales were 3.5% of new car sales in Europe, last year 11%, this year looking close to 20%...the writing is on the wall for internal combustion. With battery energy densities at 250 Wh/kg and rising, while prices fall even heavy goods vehicles will go electric (see Tesla, Volvo, Iveco etc for details). Mid decade will see 400 Wh/kg and
@@kiae-nirodiariesencore4270 thank you for your thoughtful response. I am all for EVs and am looking forward to having one some day. But in my part of the world in Australia as a farmer a new tractor purchased today is expected to be useful in 20 years. I think the economic cost of change over to EVs in the agricultural sector will prolong the use of fossil fuels well past 2041. But it will happen eventually and I am all for it. Just many challenges along the way.
This is the love child of the Defender and G Wagon. I suppose (and secretly hope) that Ineos took the best of both worlds and came up with this well met Grenadier. I will have mine in black, and the first thing I will do is replace the bicycle 'toot' with a train horn. Pure and simple, just so we are all on the same page. Jokes aside, this thing looks well thought out, and it is definitely something that I look forward to owning. Diff locks out of the box? Heck yes! I just hope that they are considering a manual gearbox as well. If the Grenadier is as sensibly priced as announced herein, it is going to sell like hot cakes.
Looks great. Only thing missing is a winch in the front bumper.
I love it 😍. Looking forward to this car going global. Nice job guys. 👍
Nice looking rig...can't wait for the off road testing!!

They also been doing it for a long time while the design wasn’t even finished.
I can't deny it. I really like what I'm seeing here. We need this in Australia.
Being a Canadian/Australian, I can definitely recommend testing the Grenadier in either the Canadian Yukon territory or the Australian Simpson desert. Take your pick. Both will be challenging.
I’ve had proper Defenders for years.
I would certainly rather one of these than a new Defender.

This might be the most perfect thing I’ve ever laid my eyes on
As long as the engine is reliable in these the rest of the features look good and they will definitely sell in Australia.
Looks good at this stage. My great grandmother told me once." Use what you have got x and you will not need anything else". You have just done exactly that. You have not tried to reinvent the wheel but make the wheel better by keeping it modernly simple and very adaptable. Sign me up for a test drive and review. I might also mention that I have driven all round the world in landrovers and sat my driving test in a landrover 40 years ago. I have owned and driven all models of landrovers since. Your concept and vision is what the market really needs. 👍
When Land Rover introduced the new Defender everyone was complaining it didn't look enough like the old one. Now a company decides to make a replacement that looks like the original one, as is it's intention to, and now everyone here in the comments is complaining it looks too old and too much like the original Defender. I don't get it.
They complain because its not a Land Rover and looks very much like one.
Enthusiasts complained they didn't get manual, simple, light and affordable RWD sportscars anymore and when Toyota made it they complained it wasn't powerful enough and that the interior looked simplistic compared to the competition.
We love the concept of it, but the styling is really lazy and seriously bordering on IP theft
The people in the other videos love it. Don’t worry.
@@cra_55 Its very close to IP theft, and for a modernizes "retromod" look, its not even that great. The tail light look awful
It’s difficult for me to listen to the designer talk and not imagine he was simply asked to copy the Defender and then create reasons why it looks alike (for #legalreasons).
I mean, its a brick. 2 bricks look the same lol
They left the field wide open- they’ve lost the right sorry.
what do you expect? Sr Jim was (is) fan of the Defender. He want it to buy the rights to the Defender since it would be discontinued By Land Rover, but the LR wanted to use the name for the new SUV that's pretty much useless to off road enthusiast that prefer simplicity above all.
This vehicle it's NOT a copy if you think about it. But it's what the new Defender by LR should have been like. Now do I care if the Grenadier looks like the old Defender? Not one bit!
Is the 70 series land cruiser also a "copy"? How about the Suzuki Jimny? Or do every single ladder frame off-roader with live axles look the same?
What a brilliant description of a vehicle, quite, precise with no hype, gasps just straight "tell as it is" description I loved it and thank you Henry for that. Because of my work I have used and driven a certain off road vehicle for all my working life except for two Range Rovers which were not fit for purpose I went back to the original vehicle. This Grenadier seems to be the dogs and my deposit has already gone in and I can't wait for the demo vehicle to come out a few month further on as yet. This Ineos will be the next go to off roader for serious users (did I hear the SAS mentioned ? I say no more ) and me of course!!
Land rover messed up, Merc was spot on with the new G class. This is how the new defender should have looked. Good luck ineos hope the car is a grate success.
