    Really good explanation of the load test for the Predator. It really did great on the test. But compared with the Duromax. Dual fuel. I think I would go with the Duromax the dual fuel always a good option to have plus the 3 year warranty, I believe harbor freight only gives you 3 months on there. I’ll be waiting for the video on the double meter you had there also. I imagine you use two different meters one for each leg of electricity. Thanks for your video buddy. I appreciate them. 👍

    For best test results you should add your excess 520 watt load equally divided between L1 and L2 as you had 35+ amps on one leg,, and 30 on the other when it tripped out on OL on the first test.

      100 % agree. You put the extra overload only on L1, not a great thing to do. You may burn out winding. What would be interesting is to see if the overload is only for the total of both lines, or if you just had say 4000 watts on L1 without anythign on L2.

      It's all about load balancing.

    • @mdunbar04
      @mdunbar04 2 года назад +1

      @@SuperRobkar That's exactly right. I have the Duromax it's about 3800 watts for L1 or L2 before overload. L1 and L2 = 7600 watts before overload.

    • @MrRChitty
      @MrRChitty 2 года назад

      @@SuperRobkar You won't burn out the winding. Think of this, you roll this out of your garage and plug in your table saw which is on a 120 volt circuit. Then you turn it on. All of that load runs on one leg. There's no balancing. The manual states in order to maximize the the amperage on the generator then you'll need to balance the loads out. Otherwise, it's perfectly fine doing what Gavin did. He didn't get 7700 watts, though. He overloaded one leg.

    Happy to have stumbled upon the channel. Good stuff! For future ones can you do 2 additional measurements? 1) maximum starting watts on the largest outlet (240V/30A in this case) and 2) run time at 80% running capacity (6000W here)?
    I am looking to use this as my emergency home generator with a transfer switch as well as an RV/camping power solution. Knowing the largest 1-2s spike the biggest plug will accomodate would be helpful. I typically like to purchase equipment that puts me at 80% utilization to provide room for swings as well as promote long-term health of the product; so runtime at 80% would be also a good piece of info.
    I am buying the predator. Perhaps you know the above from your use of it maybe?

      Run time videos are hard to make unless it’s a power outage. I would definitely drive my neighbors crazy for 12 hours running a Generator at 80%
      I like that you have a maximum load in mind of where you limit your generator I wish everyone would keep that in mind.

      Building a monitor isn't that difficult.... Get the meters off of Amazon..$17 each, put it in a plastic box with the plug in and plug out and a little bit of four conductor wire... It will set you back a few bucks though because all the parts add up. It would be nice if somebody made and sold them cheaper than you could put it together yourself... I bet many RV owners would love one.... It beats the trial and error method of causing your generator to cut off. You could save a lot of the cost by omitting the plug/ receptacle and just putting it into an existing extension cord.
      It's going to run you about $75-100 parts to put one together.

    I have a small single wide mobile home. I have one mobile home cable that runs almost everything that plugs into the PGE box, but the A/C and water heater is connected to a separate hard wire to the PGE box. Not knowing/understanding how this trailer is wired, I purchased a Predator 3500. It runs the trailer home fine, but no hook up for A/C (220v). It seems your real smart on these generators. Can i run a 208v machine (just the machine) thru my L14-30R plug on my truck on 120v switch side ..or do I need to turn it on the 120v/240v switch side? I ask this question because I was trying out 2 different machines on my truck...and the 208v machine (which uses less power than another 110v machine) couldn't pull enough power (7600 starting watts) and wouldn't world properly. But with my other machine (8500 starting watts)...I ran a 10gauge plug to the 120v outlet (not the 220 from the truck) and it worked fine with just the 120v switch only turned on. Why is that? My Honda wasn’t quite enough for my application running the whole house and charging the off grid battery bank at the same time. The Honda was real close but would occasionally hit overload. I’m using the predator now and I actually think it isn’t even as good as the Honda. I think it is tripping the overload around 6K watts. I haven’t put my meter on it yet, the numbers I’m using come from my mate 3 monitor on my off grid power system. I will update after I actually put a meter on it and read it. So far I’m pretty disappointed. I’m even running non ethanol premium in it. I’m wondering if it should have a carb adjustment? It seems to run smooth and fine it just keeps overloading prematurely.
