It was down to these two for me, and I chose the Predator. I added the NG/Propane kit from PNG Technologies and a MicroAir EasyStart. Runs my whole house including my 4 ton AC on propane! Great comparison, keep up the good work!
I got duromax 13000 but havnt hooked up yet. U say it runs your house and thats what im wanting but my ranch style house is all electric so my a/c ,furnace, water heater, well, septic system all is electric just wondering if it will run it all. Do u happen to have those things as well? I hope i got a big enough gen for all of it.
@@jd-it4on I have gas furnace, stove & water heater so the 7600 running watt is enough for my situation. The Duromax 13000 is not an inverter generator so it won't produce clean power (THD of 5% or less) which is needed for sensitive electronics like computers, newer refrigerators and TVs.
Another Awesome video Gavin! It had all of the information I wanted for comparing between these two great generators. Thank you for taking the time to do this video.
Just for the record, I just bought the duro max and it now comes with a CO monitor and in my opinion is leaps and bounds a better generator than the predator at the same price. Dual fuel out of the box, full LED display, auto choke, two remote start fobs, no switching between 120/240 like the predator. Just a better all around unit when comparing apples to apples.
So they're essentially straight out of the same factory, with different options on them. Great video, thank you. It's weird, I kinda want the Predator setup with the Duromax control panel really
Clear winner Gaven's Garage videos. I'm all in on the Duromax I purchased one from Lowes $2299 when the first came out. Love this Genny it's a beast runs everything I throw at it. It runs my 3 ton AC with a Soft Start already installed. The digital display, Propane, ATS, 3 year warranty and remote start are worth the extra bucks. Thanks again for another great Video from this time inside Gaven's Garage lol
So the extra ~$600 buys: 1) Significantly better warranty 2) Better control display and more user friendly controls 3) Dual fuel 4) Auto transfer switch control 5) Remote start 6) Regulated battery charging circuit
A few additional comparison questions: 1. Fuel tank capacity and run time? 2. For either, are the handles removable so you can mount them on the other side? 3. Noise level with low-idle mode on, vs. off? 4. Any weight difference?
Fuel capacity of 6.7 gallons a run time off around 11 hours at 50% load fuel consumption around .61 gob and a 20 pound propane tank is about 1.04 gallons per hour The handles are removable and I think you should be able to place them on either side Duromax gets up to about 68db off Eco mode Duromax is 237 pounds
Like all things, there is a pro and a con to switching from gasoline, to propane. The con being, reduction of power, and the pro is longer run time, AND, longer engine life. I believe the DuroMax generator is available in a model offering more power, while the Predator 9500, is the largest model available from Harbor Freight. There's a company out of Michigan called PNG Technologies that actually makes a gas to propane converter specifically for the Predator 9500. It's not easy to install, but it's well worth the effort, HOWEVER, to switch between gas and propane, you have to remove the front and side covers to switch back and forth between the two fuel sources. Before you buy that conversion kit, make sure your warranty has expired to avoid voiding it out. Another thing, in the owners manual for the Predator, it tells you that you MUST use fuel stabilizer in your gas, or you will void the warranty, with a simple oversight of not reading the manual. I don't know if the DuroMax has the same requirement or not. Long story short, the DuroMax is a bit more expensive, but it is much easier to switch between fuels, and you won't void out your warranty by doing so.
Very helpful video thank you, im a predator fan but the 3 year warranty sold me on the DM. Plus the option for propane which ill probably never use but its there. I have the 3500 but HF has really jacked up the prices and over 600 for an extended warranty is crazy for a 2500 dollar generator. Thank you again I enjoy your videos and that coach is lit.
Absolutely fantastic video Gavin! I couldn't have done a better review myself! You covered everything! I was about ready to tell a family member to buy the Predator, but the Duromax is a much better choice for his needs. And the 3 year warranty vs 90 days... One question: Did you get any better result with charging the 12V battery with the Predator? It should have jumped up to 13.5+ like the Duromax did, but it barely crept up to 12.8V.
might not be a prob over longs runs, dont want to cook the battery. I just grabbed the Predator on sale. Outside running it in on non-ethanol for a hour of so. Output voltages are AOK, ran a 1500w heat gun no sweat.
The handle on the Duromax was a problem that I did not like. But, it was easily moved from its original location to the other end by the controls. Just a little time to unbolt and move to other end.
I think I get it now. These generators are made at the same place and are identical. It's kind of like buying a GMC or Chevy pickup. They're both the same but have different options. So, if I take off the LPG stuff and the remote start/auto choke from the Duramax, I have a predator with a fancy control panel. Oh, geez. Never mind. I wrote this comment while watching and that's pretty much what you said at the end. Another great video though! BTW: I wonder if you can change the handle location on the Duromax?
Yup you got it. I think they are probably made by the same place in China somewhere. I believe Consumer reports may have covered this a while back. I think.
⚠️Always make sure you follow all the generator safety rules when you use your portable generator: This is just a reminder to make sure. It is important to follow all generator safety rules whenever you use your portable generator. Here are the things that need to be followed; 1) KEEPING OTHERS SAFE: Please do not allow an unqualified person or your children to operate and service the portable generator. Just because some manuals don’t say that doesn’t mean it’s safe. That is important against the generator safety rules. We also need to be keeping an eye on our children too. You need to make sure that your children are not playing near the portable generator especially when it’s running so they won’t get electrocuted. Generators pose electrical risks and they can be hot during an operation. Please keep your children away from the portable generator at all times. It is important to keep our children safe especially our little ones. Be aware of all the hazards. 2) WHERE TO RUN YOUR GENERATOR: Some people use their portable generators indoors which increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s important to have a carbon monoxide if you have a gas generator. Never ever use your generator indoors even if your doors and windows are open and even in the garage is not safe to use a portable generator. Not even at your porch and your deck. It is never safe to use your generator indoors and in enclosed areas of your home. Your generator needs to be 15-20 feet away from your house. 3)🔥FIRE HAZARDS: Never refuel your generator while it’s running. You need to let your generator cool off before refueling it and before storing your generator. Never overload your generator too. Never ever back feed your generator. You should never plug your generator into a wall outlet. Also never store propane tanks indoors. Please keep flammable things away from the generator as well and please don’t smoke cigarettes near the generator. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the generator safety rules. 4) GENERATOR OPERATION: make sure your hands are dry before touching the generator. Never use your generator in wet conditions. Don’t let your generator get wet. You need a generator tent if you need to use your generator during wet weather. Please don’t wear loose clothes when operating the generator. Turn on your generator before plugging in appliances. Use the right cord for your generator. Please do not use worn out cords. ruclips.net/video/I1jT3ANENvI/видео.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators Hope this helps
Great video. Im still waiting for a back ordered duramax. It will eventually be connected to a 250 gal house propane tank. Is there a output spec on the propane regulator?

I would really like to see this comparison as well. Harbor Freight advertises some very questionable stats on their equipment. Yes maybe as some split second does it reach 9500 watts but..... how usable is it. Can we throw some meters on both of these to see who is telling the truth. One over stated one under stated?????Thank you. Great vid.
Every generator that is a dual fuel propane vs unleaded gas will be de rated while running on propane,… example I have a 5000watt generator, in fine print it states 4550 watts while using propane….. it gives less horsepower, but while running on propane the motor will run a bit cooler, and without all the carbon and soot buildup that you get from gasoline you will find that the oil stays cleaner when running on propane since it does burn cleaner than gas. The few first oil changes on these I’d do with short intervals anyway just to get the metal shavings worked out since they don’t have oil filters. I have about a dozen generators I use for work and off grid use, I also have this 9500 as well as the predator 3500,…. I have 6200 hours on my 3500, and 1100hours on my 9500 watt predator…. It kept dry, out of the weather and if you keep fresh gas in them, keep the air filter clean and run them at least every few weeks they will all last years.
Both good units Gavin. I modified my Predator 9500 to run on Natural Gas so it should never run out of fuel as long as the gas company is supplying gas. It runs my 4 ton soft start 4 stage A/C unit just fine on a 101Deg. day. I lose proably 10-15% power running NG vs Gasoline but it suits my needs just fine.
Right now, today, I could buy the Duromax for $500 LESS, free deliver instead of picking it up, I get remote start & dual fuel AND I can purchase a FOUR YEAR Protection Plan for just $82 !
Thank you for your time, solid comparison. I think your opinion is on point. Fortunately and or unfortunately, I just bought a champion 10-8 dual fuel, still in tha box. Currently setting up tha panel backfeed.
Has anybody noticed that neither generator can output more than 7200 watts on 240 Volt without tripping the 30 amp breaker on the ONLY 240 volt outlet. So you are losing access to the 7500 or 7600 running watts if you connect to your house with 240V; and possibly to most of the extra "starting" watts. The Duromax Parallel kit does have a 240V 50A 14-50R receptacle but would it work with only one generator connected? My current 7500 running watt generator has a 120/240V 50A (14-50R) receptacle so I can get everything into my house (using #6 cable) that the generator outputs; enough to start a 4ton AC. Thank you for your videos.
I went with the DuroMax. I connected it to the house electric panel (mechanical interlock). I have the battery tender on full-time. I tried starting it with the remote for my weekly run, and it didn't work. Nothing. But it started just fine with the start push button. Do you know if the remote start function "times-out"? If it does, the "remote start" function is useless for me.
The "Start Up" switch has been "On" for 1 week as of today. The remote did not start it. I turned the "Start Up" switch to "Off", then back to "On". The Control Panel did not come on. And the remote did not work either. So, I pushed the Start button. The Control Panel lit up and it started just fine. It appears that I cannot use the remote start function unless I start the inverter more frequently than once a week. Next, I'll try after 6 days - then 5 and so on until I know how often I'll have to start it (so the remote will work in an emergency). If there is no "work-around" or fix for this, I'll have to add this to my Amazon review. Everyone should know about it.
Would the Predator start a 3 ton or 2 ton house HVAC? Was thinking of one of these for whole home backup. I realize it couldn't run both AC units at the same time. Being able to run one of the units is better than none.
In short yes, i have the predator and use it as a whole house backup and it can run all my home lights, 3 ceiling fans, my fridge and my 3 ton ac using a MicroAir easy start. All running at the same time without any problems. Hope this helps

I thought all devices were supposed to be disconnected before turning off the generator and reconnected after generator is started. How does the Duromax overcome this when it is remote started?
You overcame that by getting you a surge guard that has a 128 second delay every time it starts it restarts it’s countdown so when your remote shut off your generator it automatically disconnect the load.
We just got the duromax xp9000ih dual fuel can you do a film on how to change air fitler having trouble getting to the bottom clip to remove the facing and remove the filter to clean
Gavin, I just purchased a Predator 9500. The Muffler Exhaust Hood came off the muffler Housing. I have not been able to replace myself due to space constraints (there is no room for my hands to place it back to its correct position. Can I get it back on? I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Does the predator have a 50amp plug? Not round. 3prong and a ground. We have a food trailer and have went through 3 Duramax 13000 way generator s not buying another one

Excellent video Gavin. Yes. Hey are both excellent units. I prefer the dual fuel capability on the Duramax. Not to say that the Predator can’t be set up to run on propane. It’s a personal decision. I have the Predator 3500 inverter generator,. I’m very happy with it.
Harbor Freight recently raised the price on the Predator to $2199, sometimes you can get it on sale for the original price of $1999, but no cheaper (you used to be able to get it for as low as $1599 with the right inside track deal). Plus you will have to pony up $200 for their warranty. With the price change, it's a better option to go with the Duromax at $2599 and get more info on the control panel and dual-fuel. A DF kit for the Predator can be had for ~$500 aftermarket, but then you are over the Duromax price. Inflation is pushing HF to raise their prices so they aren't as appealing any longer.

So Gavin the difference in running wattage and start up are different on the two, but SAME engine. Is this solely due to the Duro has ability to run on propane therefore that affects performance specs when running gas?
Great video, very informative. My question is if you were just using it for your particular house which generator would you buy if you were only running it on gasoline
I don’t know much about these big generators. I have the portable Ecoflow Pro 3600, also the Bluetti AC200P, and a number of smaller Ecoflow plus their extra batteries. I need something that can charge the ones I have in case the sun isn’t out to use with my solar panels. Would I be able to just plug my portable generators into either one of these? Is there a smaller user friendly inverter dual fuel generator that you could recommend as well for what I need it for? Would appreciate any advice. Do these use cords for anything?
Yes, you would be able to charge your power stations directly to this generator because the power coming out of it is pure sine wave inverter technology.
Boy....it's a close one. I really like the panel on the Duramax with the remote start. Tht would be a great test to run your RV with propane with the Duramax. Great video. Thank you.
Thanks for the information, I live in Puerto Rico and just had Hurricane Fiona pass by and no power here where I live. I will prepare for the next one with this information I will be prepare. Look like the Predator is the one I will purchase. Thanks, again.
I'm just curious why neither has a 50-amp receptacle? I kind of like the Duromax just because of the dual fuel. What if we have another gas shortage? Or you’re at a campground that’s far away from a gas station, many RVs and BBQs run on propane you could borrow from in an emergency? At least it gives you options. Great video. Thanks
Iam a subsciber of yours for some time now and without your knowledge of these generators i would have been lost i now own the westinghouse 4500 and the generac 3000i thank you so much for educating me for what i did not know
Great comparison!! Question? I have a electric power pressure with 30amp 230 volts. What inverter generator would you recommend. Or how many watts on generator do I need to operate. Thank you
You’re gonna need at least minimum 9000 starting watts because your pressure washer needs 7200 watts running. So I’m gonna be reviewing I new 9000 W generator the Genmax. So you have choices
No you don’t have to ground it. It’s already grounded to the home ground My ground in your generator you gonna create two paths to ground, and that’s not good
Besides Gavin's comment you have to worry about the neutral being BONDED or not if you are connecting to your house panel. Having 2 ground paths (one is required) and/or 2 neutral paths are both bad and not allowed by Nat.Electric Code. Lots of research is needed to partially understand the subject.
Nice comparison. What doesn't make sense to me is the use of 30A 240 plug. That only gets you 7200watts max. A 9000watt surge is over a 30A breaker. Needs to be 50A plug which will go up to 12000w. Technically, would need a parrallel kit just to use surge amount or full load wattage.
I believe the Duromax lists for $2600 and the Predator is $2000. The extra $600 is totally worth it. An extra brake and better handle placement is neglible. The Duromax can use propane which stores forever without going bad and there is the possibility of modifying it to run on natural gas so you could hook it up to your home gas source and never worry about fuel.
I don’t agree that the value is there. You get less surge wattage in favor of a built in propane system, auto choke and remote start. An upgrade kit will cost ya less than $100 to install for propane.

@@mikeerin5031 cheapest conversion kit for the predator I've seen is north of $400. Duromax also comes with a three year warranty whereas the predator comes with a 90 day warranty.
@@tomroth2634 got one on order for $132 after tax. But I put it together myself. It’s not rocket science. I have not seen an NG conversion kit yet for it.
I think it comes down to what type of service you have. A Predator with a PNG natural gas conversion will cost about the same as the Duramax. In my part of the country there’s very little propane except in rural areas. I went with the Predator and added the natural gas kit. It can easily be switched over to propane as well.
Hey again. Have you done or can you do a propane consumption test on the duromax? I have one of these and so far it's great but between the manual , the website and even a DM from customer support all of the figures are different. I would test it but I don't have them means currently. I can send you the info duromax sent me.
Do you have a maintenance video for the duramax? I just purchased one, the xp5500hx, by the way, what did the hx stand for? Anyway, I'm sure it'll come with instructions that are black and white and impossible for anybody that's never had any experience with generators to follow because that's just the way it works with stuff like this. I don't know how to change the oil? At a minimum I need to know how to do that.
How does the DuraMax run on natural gas or can it? PNG Technologies makes a natural gas conversion kit for the Predator 9500, but its about $500 by the time you've got it installed and its not covered under the OEM warranty and there is a large fuel regulator mounted outside the cabinet that is likely to catch on things when moving it around or transporting it. $300 more for the DuraMax for dual fuel its no brainer unless it is only going to be used for job site work. The DuraMax has a lot more features with readouts for load, frequency etc. It looks like the Predator may have had a slight design refresh with better placement for rectifier, dual wheel locks verses one, switched sides for handle position (It might be the DIY could swap the handle sides), while the DuraMax has not had its design refreshed. It might be the DuraMax was an older model and newer models will reflect the same refreshed design seen in the Predator 9500. Both of these generators appear to still have the nearly impossible to open air filter housing that requirers leveraging up the engine on its mounts to get to the bottom clip of the air cleaner lid. It also looks like a small air cleaner subject to quickly clogging if exposed to any dust.
You can’t it wouldn’t make sense to parallel them because together you’ll have less power If you parallel the 9000 with a 3500 you’ll end up with 7000 starting watts
To me, the Duromax is the way to go. The only benefit the Predator has is 500 additional starting watts. That's it. The Duromax beats it everywhere else. If you were to install a propane conversion kit on the Predator, it's wattage would go down as well. I'm interested in emergency power during a power outage. We just lost power for a day and a half during this winter storm and running a generator off of a huge 500 gallon propane tank (as opposed to driving to the gas station and carting stinky gas cans in your car) is soooooo much more convenient. Anyone who's had to 1. go find a gas station still pumping gas during a power outage, try not to get the car smelling like gas, 3. not pour any gas on themselves and 4. actually get the gas in the generator without pouring any on themselves knows how difficult those 4 steps are. Almost certainly, your car, even if it gets only a drop of gas spilled, will smell like gas for a week, you'll pour a few drops (or more) of gas on your hands/wrists/clothes, you'll struggle to get the gas in the generator and you might struggle to actually find a gas station pumping gas. How much simpler to run your generator off of a propane tank and not have to deal with any of that. Duromax all the way!
Will the tri fuel carburetor from the duromax work on the predator? I have the predator and since they look exactly alike I would like to add the dual fuel to my predator. Thank you for your help.
Can you tell if they have the same brand inverter? They're different obviously since the paralleling is different, but I'm curious if they're two versions from the same inverter manufacturer, or if they're totally different. If one is much higher quality than the other, that might explain the price and warranty difference.
Great videos Gavin! Keep up the great work. Just purchased the Duromax 9000 and was wondering if I can change the handles to the other side like the Predator? It looks like we should be able to. Can you do a video on this? Thanks as always!
Carbon monoxide shut off is good to have but not needed since generators have to be outside and you need to read the manual. My generator says to put it 10 feet away my house with the exhaust pointing away.
If you have a flat battery on the Duromax and need to use the pull cord will it start as surely the choke needs power to activate, just a thought. 👍🏻🇬🇧 nice review.
@@GeneratorReviews, Thanks for the response it’s fairly hypothetical as I don’t think either unit is available here in the U.K. (the generator market is very small here) was posing the question out of curiosity. 👍🏻🇬🇧

I bought two of the Duromax XP9000ihs and was wanting to know if I need to ground one, both or neither of the units to the earth when I am plugging them into my main panel? I might run one unit or parallel both together which goes to a power inlet box. Thank you again, Mike in DFW
If the portable generator is providing electric power to a structure by connection via a transfer switch to a structure (home, office, shop, trailer, or similar), it must be connected to a grounding electrode system, such as a driven ground rod. If connected to a house via a interlock kit, a generator is grounded by the ground wire in the power cable that runs from the generator to the distribution ...

Hi Thanks for watching, sounds like you looking for something to run all the essential loads. I would definitely recommend a starting watts of 3500 - 4500. That should be enough power to get you though those power outages. Check out my videos on 4500 ruclips.net/video/rODZcModfOQ/видео.html

@@GeneratorReviews TY, approximately 10% less power I figure. Does 5 gallons of propane run for approximately the same amount of time is 5 gallons of gasoline?
Hi i watch so many of your vids and im wondering if u know if a duromax 13000 will run my house. The house is in the country in a northern state so get cold and some bad winters.anyways the house is a ranch style 2.5 ton ac and eveeyrhing is electric so my furnace ,septic tank, well, water heater all of it electric. Just wondering your thought i have the gen already because power goes out here during winter several times a year and i got tired of running a bunch of extension cords from my 4000what gen in to house and still not being able to run much at all. Hopefully i got a big enough gen because i didnt want to spend 12k on a generac system
Thanks for watching I appreciate your support With a little load management a 13k should be fine especially if you shed some heavier loads You should probably think of installing a manual transfer Switch the would help with the extension cord problem. Good luck👍🏾

I just purchased two Predator 9500 generators and would like to connect them in parallel for whole home backup. Harbor Freight doesn't offer a parallel kit yet for this generator. The only parallel kit I can find online that is powerful enough is the Duromax XP9000iH-PK (up to 15,200 running watts). I purchased the kit, but it is missing the 4th wire (white) that the Predator 9500 generator has where the parallel kit connects to the generator. Does anyone know if you need the 4th white wire for the Predators to run properly in parallel? If it does need the white wire, is there any off the shelf parallel kit for the Predator 9500 with all 4 wires, or is there a way to customize the Duromax parallel kit to add a 4th wire? Any help is appreciated!
Could you please try putting them in parallel again, this time doing L1 to L1, L2 to L2, and neutral to neutral? Looking at a videos of people making parallel kits for the Predator that's all you have to do but it does matter which way you hook it up because it is split phase. I like the features of the Duromax but I ultimately need a 14-50 connection for my application. Also, could you make a video taking apart the front and showing the connections to and from the inverter and how they have the front panel wired up? Thanks in advance and for the videos you already made!
@@GeneratorReviews I mean the two you showed in this video, what I think should work is getting two l14-30 plugs and basically connecting the two together (obviously put a 14-50 in the middle). But the 240v is on the banana jacks so it is safer to use them for the 240v and connect the neutrals together, however, I think L1 needs to go to L1 and the same for the L2s.
Thank you for the awesome video. Does anyone know if there is a propane to natural gas conversion kit for the Duromax XP9000iH? Or has anyone done this already? Looks like PNG technologies makes a kit for the XP13000EH but wanted to ask here if anyone has added a kit to also use natural gas.
Thanks for watching I spoke to one company and they are making a tri-fuel kit for the Duromax 9000 and the predator 9500 I am going to be doing a installation video once I get my hands on a kit
It was down to these two for me, and I chose the Predator. I added the NG/Propane kit from PNG Technologies and a MicroAir EasyStart. Runs my whole house including my 4 ton AC on propane! Great comparison, keep up the good work!
Thanks for sharing this with us about your AC I appreciate your feedback
Awesome info thanks!

Yeah, I already have the one of the co monitor. This was just the older video.
Why do you think it's so much better? I'm not for either one. I have that Predator, because I caught it on sale for $1,100.
So they're essentially straight out of the same factory, with different options on them. Great video, thank you. It's weird, I kinda want the Predator setup with the Duromax control panel really
Excellent comparison video. Concise, thorough, and to the point of their features to point out what people may need or prefer. Great work Gavin!
Thanks Bruce
Clear winner Gaven's Garage videos. I'm all in on the Duromax I purchased one from Lowes $2299 when the first came out. Love this Genny it's a beast runs everything I throw at it. It runs my 3 ton AC with a Soft Start already installed. The digital display, Propane, ATS, 3 year warranty and remote start are worth the extra bucks. Thanks again for another great Video from this time inside Gaven's Garage lol
Thanks for watching 🙏🏾
It’s an awesome Generator
$2299???? They had them that cheap??? Everywhere I see now is $2599 to $2999....
@@kb8978 yep
I went for the Predator $2299 but only had a 90 day warranty so I purchased the extended 3 year warranty for $700
So the extra ~$600 buys:
1) Significantly better warranty
2) Better control display and more user friendly controls
3) Dual fuel
4) Auto transfer switch control
5) Remote start
6) Regulated battery charging circuit
Kevin!! You get an A+
Thanks buddy for watching
True.....the Predator is only good for 90 days. Harbor freight really needs to up their game on that.
They want to sell you their warranty
@@badashcoupe1977 True....I'd still go for the Duramax.💪💪
Also a remote start
Thanks for taking the time to do this comparison.
A few additional comparison questions:
1. Fuel tank capacity and run time?
2. For either, are the handles removable so you can mount them on the other side?
3. Noise level with low-idle mode on, vs. off?
4. Any weight difference?
Fuel capacity of 6.7 gallons a run time off around 11 hours at 50% load fuel consumption around .61 gob and a 20 pound propane tank is about 1.04 gallons per hour
The handles are removable and I think you should be able to place them on either side
Duromax gets up to about 68db off Eco mode
Duromax is 237 pounds
It does seem though that the handles on both the generators can be moved to the opposite side.
Thanks 😊
Absolutely fantastic video Gavin! I couldn't have done a better review myself! You covered everything! I was about ready to tell a family member to buy the Predator, but the Duromax is a much better choice for his needs. And the 3 year warranty vs 90 days...
One question: Did you get any better result with charging the 12V battery with the Predator? It should have jumped up to 13.5+ like the Duromax did, but it barely crept up to 12.8V.
I made it run afterwards it finally got up after about five minutes of running but not like the Duramax could be the battery
might not be a prob over longs runs, dont want to cook the battery.
Perfect 👍🏾
I think I get it now. These generators are made at the same place and are identical. It's kind of like buying a GMC or Chevy pickup. They're both the same but have different options. So, if I take off the LPG stuff and the remote start/auto choke from the Duramax, I have a predator with a fancy control panel. Oh, geez. Never mind. I wrote this comment while watching and that's pretty much what you said at the end. Another great video though! BTW: I wonder if you can change the handle location on the Duromax?
Yes you can. Just unclamp it and move it to the other side.
Yup you got it. I think they are probably made by the same place in China somewhere. I believe Consumer reports may have covered this a while back. I think.
Duromax also comes with a three year warranty, Predator comes with a 90 day warranty.

I would really like to see this comparison as well. Harbor Freight advertises some very questionable stats on their equipment. One over stated one under stated?????Thank you. Great vid.
@@sony1998 the inverter electronics are better on the preditor that is why
That’s awesome Harry! 👍🏾
Right now, today, I could buy the Duromax for $500 LESS, free deliver instead of picking it up, I get remote start & dual fuel AND I can purchase a FOUR YEAR Protection Plan for just $82 !
Looked up the manual for the duromax it says it does have carbon monoxide shutoff?
Yes! The second generation the newest ones does
Thank you for your time, solid comparison.
Anyone notice the voltage selector switch on the Predator was installed backwards?
The frames look so similar, I wonder if it's possible to switch the handle on the Duromax to the other side?
They look like they are the same units, one or the other is a rebrand? With some differences!
How long did you leave it on for before it timed out?
I haven’t tested it yet but I plan on doing it soon
In short yes, i have the predator and use it as a whole house backup and it can run all my home lights, 3 ceiling fans, my fridge and my 3 ton ac using a MicroAir easy start. All running at the same time without any problems. Hope this helps
I have the Predator and a MicroAir Easy Start and it runs my 4 ton AC

Gavin, great job always. I would like to see more propane load tests done on duel fuel models. Thanks
Makes me wonder if you could change the location of the handle to the front on the duromax
I’ve heard of some people doing that
Nice comparison. I'd get the DuroMax right now if I could find one. Sold out everywhere.
Thanks for watching
Yep you gotta get it as soon as it’s available I don’t think that will change
How is the availability of parts on predator generators say several years down the road? Do they use common carbs that are readily available?
The engine in both generators parts are widely available most large Gens and pressure washers have the same one.
Great question Brent
I only use non ethanol fuel in my small engines, you too? I think you get more power from high octane also?
Can you please create a video on how to properly drain fuel from a generator such as this one for storage?
Yes I will definitely make that video
We just got the duromax xp9000ih dual fuel can you do a film on how to change air fitler having trouble getting to the bottom clip to remove the facing and remove the filter to clean
I will make a video of that soon
Gavin, I just purchased a Predator 9500. The Muffler Exhaust Hood came off the muffler Housing. I have not been able to replace myself due to space constraints (there is no room for my hands to place it back to its correct position. Can I get it back on? I really appreciate any help you can provide.
You usually have to take off all the plastics in order to work on these generators
Will a power conditioner, like Panamax interface between the non-inverter generator and sensitive electronics and be able to clean the signal?
No a power conditioner can’t output pure sine wave from a modified sine wave
Does the predator have a 50amp plug? Not round. 3prong and a ground. We have a food trailer and have went through 3 Duramax 13000 way generator s not buying another one
It has the 30amp 4 pin twist lock
Sorry unrelated question. Are you planning on doing anything with the solar panels in the back? Thank you for the informational videos.

How about remote start do either of them have remote start
Duromax have remote start

I believe so.
Great video, very informative. My question is if you were just using it for your particular house which generator would you buy if you were only running it on gasoline
Oh my gosh I would probably get the Predator
Good job brother. Currently shoping for a generator, any advice for 2022/23 generators that are worth their money
Great video! Can that Duromax power you're 5 ton a/c like the predator?
Yes it can
Boy....it's a close one. I really like the panel on the Duramax with the remote start. Tht would be a great test to run your RV with propane with the Duramax. Great video. Thank you.

Thanks

Very helpful in making my decision to get the Duromax. Thanks!
Can you get to the air filter any easier on the Duramax?
Exactly the same as the Predator hopefully they change or redesign it next time
Just a question. I just bought the 9500 predator one. In instruction booklet it says to ground the system. Do you have to ground it.
No you don’t have to ground it. It’s already grounded to the home ground
My ground in your generator you gonna create two paths to ground, and that’s not good
Besides Gavin's comment you have to worry about the neutral being BONDED or not if you are connecting to your house panel.
The breaker won't trip instantaneously.
those ratings are for residential. emergency and hanging wires having different ratings. for example a 30amp generator wire can handle 9000 watts
I agree but as for the handle one could swap it a round after all they look the same
I don’t agree that the value is there.

Agreed!👌🏾👍🏾
Which kit did you go with? Thanks
Hey again. Have you done or can you do a propane consumption test on the duromax? I have one of these and so far it's great but between the manual , the website and even a DM from customer support all of the figures are different. I would test it but I don't have them means currently. I can send you the info duromax sent me.
I can do those test in a power outage situation and record it for you but yes, you can email me the info they sent you👍🏾
I’ve got the 5000 predator and will upgrade to the 9500 predator version real soon to use on my camper. Thanks for the info.
If you lived in Houston, I would tell you drop it by and I will do it for you, but I will work on the video showing all of that😊
@@GeneratorReviews 🥰 I'm in Indiana but I would bring it to you if I were closer 😉 I'll keep an eye out...
I would like to see the propane load test. Thank you
Yessir I will be doing the propane test
Is the duromax an inverter? If yes, why is that not emphasized?
Yes! All pure sine waves are inverter Generator
Question Gavin, do you see anywhere why the difference in wattage??? Curious why the Predator supposedly has more power, when it seems the same.
Every brand choices their Generators output power
Can you parallel this generator with a smaller one. Maybe a 9000 and a 3500 together and if so how does the 120/240 work out?
You can’t it wouldn’t make sense to parallel them because together you’ll have less power
If you parallel the 9000 with a 3500 you’ll end up with 7000 starting watts
Will it run the Duramax that is a 220 dryer without overloading and overheating
Yes that shouldn’t be any problem for this generator
Are the 12V outputs live on either unit? By that, I mean could I plug a battery tender into them instead of putting a pigtail on the battery itself?
After testing the predator it’s 12 V plug is not live but the Duramax comes with a charging port and the 120 V adapter to charge the battery
Thanks for the info. Really enjoy the videos.
Will the tri fuel carburetor from the duromax work on the predator? I have the predator and since they look exactly alike I would like to add the dual fuel to my predator. Thank you for your help.
They make a duel fuel kit for your predator so yes it can be converted.
Gavin what reasonable and practical size propane tank would you recommend with the duomax 9600?
I would get the 40 lbs tank with wheels that’s the recommended size for that size generator 👍🏾
Thanks for watching and subscribing
What about the Honda 7000 fuel injection versus these two?
Working on a vs video coming soon with six 240v whole house backup generator
@Gavin’s Garage nice.
Can you tell if they have the same brand inverter? They're different obviously since the paralleling is different, but I'm curious if they're two versions from the same inverter manufacturer, or if they're totally different. If one is much higher quality than the other, that might explain the price and warranty difference.
I will look it up and let you know 👍🏾
Great videos Gavin! Keep up the great work. Just purchased the Duromax 9000 and was wondering if I can change the handles to the other side like the Predator? It looks like we should be able to. Can you do a video on this? Thanks as always!
Thanks for watching
Yep I will do it 👍🏾
Great job as usual but can you do a test on a generator running the heat in the house not just the AC
Yes I will do that for you 👍🏾
Is it possible to switch handle sides? Looks like it might be.
Yes I think it is possible
Carbon monoxide shut off is good to have but not needed since generators have to be outside and you need to read the manual. My generator says to put it 10 feet away my house with the exhaust pointing away.
If you have a flat battery on the Duromax and need to use the pull cord will it start as surely the choke needs power to activate, just a thought. 👍🏻🇬🇧 nice review.
You can manually control the choke by removing the side cover.
@@GeneratorReviews, Thanks for the response it’s fairly hypothetical as I don’t think either unit is available here in the U.K. (the generator market is very small here) was posing the question out of curiosity. 👍🏻🇬🇧

Thank You very much!

Why do you think the Duramax has more charge power for the battery ?
The battery was probably lower and required more power from the rectifier. It just depends on the battery state of charge.
Hi n thanks. Does the propane run quieter and cleaner?
It’s cleaner than gas but has less power
@@GeneratorReviews TY, approximately 10% less power I figure. Does 5 gallons of propane run for approximately the same amount of time is 5 gallons of gasoline?

With a little load management a 13k should be fine especially if you shed some heavier loads

There’s only so much power you can carry through an extension cord before it gets dangerous
Do you think there is an actual difference in starting watts?
I think the only difference in starting watts is when running it on propane.
After watching your video I decided to purchase the Duromax. It will be here in a few weeks. Thanks for a great comparison video.
Nice!!
I would advise that you wait for Predator to release your parallel kit that’s a lot of power

Are they both "inverter" generators (pure sine wave)?
Yes they’re both inverter and pure sine wave
Anybody know the THD on the predator. Is it safe for sensitive electronics?
Less than 5% THD
Thanks for watching
I spoke to one company and they are making a tri-fuel kit for the Duromax 9000 and the predator 9500 I am going to be doing a installation video once I get my hands on a kit
Is the DUROMAX XP9000IH really shorter? It looks like the same height.
They have the exact same frame and the parts are interchangeable with each other. Size wise
@@GeneratorReviews The specs lied to us all. Thanks for responding.
Are these made at the same factory just different names and accessories,,,
Yessir that’s exactly right
Would like to see a review on the Yamaha 6300 inverter .
Does the duramax have the same 3 mo joke of a warranty?
No only the Predator has that.
