I'm cracking up at the noticeably higher views this S3 reaction is getting over S2 🤣
Here we go 😍
the power of korra and asami bonding
While book 3 is the best in TLOK in my opinion book 2 gets a lot more hate than it deserves.
@@calvineastburnabsolutely bro, the hate is going too far
@@calvineastburn Season 2 had some great moments, but I don't typically go back to rewatch it because it also had some really lame moments, for example the final avatar battle i felt was just a bit cheesey, pacific rim style giant kaiju fighting which i am not a fan of.
Ming Hua, the enemy Waterbender, was designed in part because the creators wanted to show how bending would work with someone that had a disability. They wanted another example instead of just Toph with her blindness. As someone else pointed out, that some talented benders can bend using slight movement like Bumi only having to move his head to earthbend. She is clearly a talented waterbender.
Also don’t forget yakone blood bending without hand movement
Yeah with his mind @bensonfang1868
My thing is the brain command to your arms still exist, so basically I think it’s the same but maybe with more mobility, like the chi points still exist in the arms they are just mental or spiritual therefore more fluid and goes with the theme of water, if a bender of another element didn’t have arms it would likely be a bad thing.
@guydudedudeguy9030 thank you teeth dude
“I liked how the last season was edgy”
You don’t know what’s coming for you
You have no idea what is coming for you… 😏
@@luansh4237😏😏
3:42 my favourite part of this whole segment is Meelo is also shocked when Bumi could airbend... which means he threw that bowl fully expecting it to bonk Bumi in the head 😂😂
I always thought, apart from the fact that Zaheer definitely was able to fight before, we already see glimpses of his spirituality with him citing the Guru, and we know spirituality is a big part of airbending. It’s a nice subtle way to show how he is already so good at airbending~
On top of him studying spirituality, specifically airbending gurus, it seems like he is only checked up on every couple of weeks. It is possible he did a lot of practicing in isolation before they checked on him.
I’m pretty sure he was an air acolyte before he joined the red lotus. It would explain how he knows so much about airbenders
@@JCrushFitness He studied Airbending philosophy because the Red Lotus needed an Airbending instructor for the Avatar, and the only actual Airbender in the world at the time was Tenzin. It's possible he was an air acolyte but I think it is unlikely.
Guru Laghima is well named: Laghima is a technique in Yoga dealing with feeling weightless, to reaching a state of neutral gravity, so to speak.
Fun fact!! Ming Hua is voiced by the same voice actress as Azula 👀
And the mushroom from S2 🍄 and someone else from this season 🤫 such talent!
“ Yes I am “ xD best line of season 2 xD
There are some comics that explain the aftermath off the war. Zuko originally planned to return all fire nation colonies to the earth kingdom and remove his citizens. The problem was that some off the colonial towns were over 100 years old so the people from the fire nation and earth nation had been used to living together in these areas. Some people with fire nation decent felt more connected to the town they were living in than towards the fire nation (a country they had never seen) and some families were even mixed and consisted off both earth and fire benders so would have been seperated. So it was nearly impossible to return these lands to the earth kingdom without getting an uprissing off the people living there. So instead off returning the land the colonies became independant and would eventually become the united republic.
Yeah huge recommendation to read those comic books. They are so well written and explain a lot of problems that The Gaang had to deal with after the 100 year war
This is my favorite season of this show. Zaheer is fantastic villian and I wish he and his gang were the antagonists for the whole show
I cannot possibly disagree more, how on earth is he running circles around the one and only air bending master who's been mastering the craft for over 40 years? Because the script says so, and that's just not good enough. NOTHING matters if that can just happen, it supercedes training, discipline, motivation, the end is already written, so nothing matters
@bittybaff3541 It was pretty clear. Even as a non-bender prior to harmonic convergence, he studied the Air Nomads extensively, which would've included his airbending techniques, so he would know how to airbend, prior to actually getting the ability to do so; and advanced techniques as well, which made him especially dangerous. Also, he didn't run circles around Tenzin. Tenzin was beating him with his experience, but then his Red Lotus teammates jumped in and helped him.
@@bittybaff3541They made it pretty clear he studied airbending so that he could be Korra’s airbending teacher
@@bittybaff3541he literally LOST against tenzin until he had backup what are you on about
I personally believe the people that got airbending now aren't just random, but are the descendants of the diaspora airbenders that initially survived the genocide. They were closed off from it because they were closed off from their culture and spirituality, but Harmonic convergence reawakened those genes inside them. That's why Bumi got it too, he's Aang's child too after all.
There is also a popular fan theory that Ty Lee is one of those secret airbender descendants. She looks a lot more like Aang than she does any other firenation person, and the way she moves is also a lot like an airbender. I don't believe the creators actually thought of this at the time, it's more one of those reverse-engineered fan theories that's fun to keep around as a headcanon
You already know Zaheer is insanely powerful if he was locked in the prison like that and he was not a bender at the time
14:00 Nah, don’t worry, there’s a pretty good story reason that Zaheer isn’t a total rookie when it comes to airbending at the start - they point to that by having Zaheer’s very first words be a monologue about a Northern Air Temple airbender called Guru Laghima. The creators aren’t undermining the lore behind learning airbending in order to master it.
Exactly, even as a non-bender zaheer was a deadly martial artist, as well as well studied in spiritual and cultural matters
@@BanControl he also had a good chunk of time in his cell in complete isolation to practice. Bending is already just martial arts + 'magic', so he would have time to figure out how to combine his existing knowledge with air bending
I also feel like Zaheer is just ballsy as all hell, so of course he'll chuck himself off the cliff without being 100% certain he'd be able to actually catch himself lmao
Remember when Avatar Wan was first given fire. He had no form but could still make fire. Those with discipline and form are absolutely better and more in control than those without, but it’s still possible to bend without it. Zaheer shows skill while other benders like Bumi may not have the same martial practice. I see Bumi as a strategist more than a martial artist. Capable, but in a different way.
4:34 there’s a theory (which I personally think is true) that the spirit portals opening merely awakened dormant airbending “genes” in people and that the new airbenders are descendants of air nomads who escaped the genocide and fled. The reason is that most of them are concentrated in the earth kingdom and clustered in a specific set of cities near the coasts or in ba sing se, which are places were refugees from air temples would flee to. The only new airbender who’s ancestry we know of is bumi, who gets his “genes” from aang of course
I think the best way to look at it is that for benders that are novices, if they end up bending something it's a reflex based on instinct or emotion
The discipline you're referring to is the actual learning of how to control the bending to your will, but an airbender is an airbender, ergo, they can bend air
It's like a discipline like karate. Without learning karate you still know how to move your arms to deflect incoming things based on reflex. Someone swings at you with a branch for instance your instinct is to catch it or deflect it (generally). You didn't learn that, your body just knows that as a survival instinct.
If you actually train yourself in karate you train your body to control that reflex so you can choose how you engage with that incoming branch yourself based on muscle memory.
Idk, I don't think these airbenders being able to already bend cheapens the bending in any way. For Bumi it was when he felt threatened (first time when he fell and would've died, second time when a plate was thrown directly at his face), and for the other bender it was emotionally driven, he was terrified of it and didn't know what was going on, and on top of that was being threatened by the police when he was on top of that bridge.
As for Zaheer, just look at the protections surrounding his prison. Dude was a beast even without bending, we can assume heavily trained in multiple martial arts. Since bending is based on martial arts, it makes sense he can learn to control the bending in those 2 weeks he had a lot easier, especially considering he already had knowledge of airbending (he specifically mentioned a poem by a master airbender named Laghima)
Also, Zaheer is genuinely one of the best villains in all of Avatar, even ATLA. You're in for a ride
Korra restored some balance after her actions during Harmonic Convergence, and a big part of the imbalance was the lack of airbenders (after the Fire Nation’s genocide).
Well, we saw Katara waterbend without her knowing much about it. Remember in 1st episode of season 1 she did break a whole piece of iceberg while arguing with Sokka after their boat got crushed? I always thought that the man on the bridge was able to airbend just like she did it and it's normal
Yeah, during moments of extreme emotion, we often see bending take place in the show. There's no defined limitation on being able to use the power of the element, but 'bending' is about being able to control and master the use of that element.
Best season of Korra let’s gooooooo!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 the writers are God sent
Let me tell you my theory: Raava said that if Vaatu wins the fight that happens every 10,000 years, he will destroy the world, that was HIS wish. Because Raava won, HER wish was to create balance in the world and what was missing from the world that created imbalance...AIR BENDERS!! To fulfil her wish, she brought back the air benders.
14:31 If you think back to the very first episode of the Last Airbender, Katara actually accidently bent a glacier in half while yelling at Sokka. It's how they found Aang. Suggesting accidental bending is a sign of an inexperienced bender while their emotions are high.
Yeah regarding Zaheer being able to Airbend well so quickly it makes sense if you think about it. Clearly Zaheer was dangerous as a non bender before his imprisonment other wise he wouldn't have that secure cell. So he knows a bunch of technical skills. He has also done studies of airbending and spirituality which is shown through him quoting Guru Lagima. Before now he was essentially an Airbender already without the bending part.
I like that you get excited when you see a Last Airbender character but don't lose your mind and forget everything about the show you're watching. Kinda refreshing lol.
You're about to find out exactly why tenzin, white lotus, aang, katara, zuko, and others spent so much time and energy keeping korra protected and hidden
4:26 Not exactly. Maybe you'll figure it out later, but it's because the spirit world and physical world being intertwined again restored the balance that was lost after the Air Nomad genocide.
8:41 That was earthbending! The building was stone.
“Wait until I tell mom. She’s going to love this.” Bumi being excited to tell Katara he can airbend was so cute
The forms of bending are about control and discipline. Without control and discipline you may bend without knowing and possibly hurt someone, which is what Jeong Jeong was trying to teach Aang in Book 1 with fire bending. Aang didn't listen to him and as a result he accidentally hurt Kitara.
It's likely that Katara was Ming Hua's waterbending master. Having spent so much time with Toph, she would have been more open to taking on a waterbender without arms, knowing that the disability didn't mean Ming Hua couldn't learn to bend with no arms. And who knows, the AtLA animated movie might show Katara working with a waterbender who lost the use of or just have no arms at all like Ming Hua,
also dont forget bumi used his head to earth bend when he was locked in
Daw had no control and was in a state of panic which is why the air went rampage like a storm. Bummy couldnt bend at will but only under special circumstances like most people. Zaheer studied the airbenders his whole life and most likely added their moves in his fighting style, so its only natural for him to bend this easy.
A lot of people wonder at how good a fighter Zahere is, but it just means was already a highly skilled martial artist and since he was always fascinated with air benders, he had trained in the forms as a non-bending martial artist - so when he gained bending, he already knew the forms.
We don't know the exact timeline of these events. When we pick up this season, we see the initial reports of the airbenders, but it's not clear how long Korra was hanging around Republic city and stuff. There's definitely the possibility that Zaheer got his airbending like a week or so before he escapes and discovered it and started practicing in there, likely using knowledge he had gained from studying airbender lore. It's a bit fast maybe, but with all that knowledge and some days to work the kinks out, an talented martial artist like him getting a good feel for it is kind of reasonable. He's definitely not just anyone becoming a master immediately.
Awesome reaction!!! I love how Korra's growing on you so much now that you actually want her to be pissed and fight when she doesn't even do it hahaha it's awesome how you grew to love her character!!
😆 to be fair, it’s not just her growing on me, she’s also growing too and some situations now are calling for a bit more assertion!
@@thecocoacouch for sure! that's why as epic as s3 is, i still prefer s4 over the others bc the more time passes the more she grows and I love the comics so much too bc you see what kind of adult and avatar she becomes and she's awesome 😭 just best avatar ever❤️ i relate a lot to her in later times
3:44 think about it and that scene Meelo was the original Bumi, and Bumi was Aang trying to prove that Aang was the avatar.
8:42 pretty sure that was earthbending bro
This season is one of my favourite seasons of any show I’ve watched tbh
When Korra did the water bending to the vines it did worked but the pressure and chaos of the president and viewers was what made the vines provoke to spread more and aggressive.
12:48 from what we know, he was already a skilled martial artist (that’s why he’s in such a tough prison despite having no bending)
My personal theory about as to why some people within the earth kingdom got air bending, is maybe some of them were very, very distantly related to Airbenders.
Zaheer was a martial artist and he studied airnomad culture which is why he is able to airbend fluently but also different due to his martial arts background. This is the best season of legend of Korra and of both shows.
This is such a *chefs kiss* season. Can’t wait for the next episodes
Yeah Legend of Korra looked to me like they got rid of the martial arts that each bending was based on. Kung Fu for Firebending, Fung Shuay for Waterbending, Toph's technique was called the Grasshopper, etc.
To your comments after episode 1, about how some of them can just do random movements to do bending and how it “takes away” from the martial art. I get what you mean, but think back to Episode 1 of ATLA, Katara found the iceberg with Aang in it by throwing a tantrum and her movements destroying the ice without her intentionally doing it.
A lot of bending comes from emotion, and I think the undisciplined benders tap into this the most since they don’t really know what they’re doing. My thoughts anyways 🙂
I highly recommend you watch "The Dragon Prince." It is an awesome show and a work of art with fantastic characters, immaculate world-building, and it is written by the head writer of "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (unlike "The Legend of Korra").
I’ve always considered the bending forms more of as an aid for focus and direction. Remember, Bumi could earthen even when he was trapped in the metal coffin-prison 😄
To address your question in 1:26,
It's the shift of planet's energy Korra was referring to in her speech on ep14. It occurred after Korra decided to leave the portals open.
Zaheer and his group are such great villans, i love this season, but i agree with you i loved season 2 as well
Just think, Zaheer was locked up where he was, how he was, watched by who he was, and he wasn’t a bender before
That’s how dangerous he is
And Ming Hua not only bends the way she does, but she’s able to bend *while holding water onto her missing arm points* to grapple and whatnot
As soon as I saw you were doing Legend of Korra I've been anxiously waiting for this season
Gazan is a cool extension of earth bending into lava bending, something I think comes from having one fire bending parent and one earth bending parent.
"What is up with there always being a conspiracy in bia sing se. Someone needs to root out the problem"
Careful what you wish for i guess
I don't want to say too much and spoil anything but Zaheer had been studying airbender culture and fighting forms for decades, so when he got airbending he was already at the level of a master.
Katara at the start of The Last Airbender couldn't bend very well, clearly having no form and little to no practice, yet she was still able to accidentally break apart an iceberg and inadvertently begin the whole series, much like the airbender on the bridge.
You don't need to know a complex martial arts form or two in order to hit someone, but you do if you want to do it well.
13:44 When you’re born a bender, you can bend. To effectively airbend, you need to learn from the flying bison. To effectively waterbend, you need to learn from the moon and the ocean. To effectively earthbend, you need to learn from the badger moles. And to effectively firebend, you need to learn from the dancing dragons
This is literally the best season of any Korra and most Aang I reckon.
Henry Rollins makes this season my favorite, and it isn't even CLOSE thanks to his performance.
This is THE SEASON. My favorite. This is the first season they started releasing it online halfway through, so they considered taking more risks, and boy oh boy, did they…
"someone needs to root out the problems"... Be careful on what you wish for 🌬️
I just love the kung fu panda prisons each of the villains are in. Each one more over the top than the last.
Katara used to accidental water bend when emotional
I just had a thought while watching while watching Zaheer fight. I want to see an Airbender use the mantis fighting style.
I was thinking you were like 20-22! Haha that puts me +4 above ya! 👏🏻
My theory is that the body movements of bending need to be bigger when someone is newer to bending because they need that movement to flow their chi. As a bender gets more proficient, they can physically move less, but still move their chi streams enough to have a big effect.
To me beniding is more like controling the energy within yourself to control the objects arround you like in that sense you dont really need special movments but they help a lot for focusing
Lets. Go. This is my FAVORITE season of Korra!
i think a lot of what happened with harmonic convergence was the universe and spirit world recognizing balance was thrown off by a genocide of a people and granting air bending to people to help remedy that
Welcome to season 3 the undisputed best season mainly because season 2 started off really slow and the ending although it was cool but i felt it wasnt the best writing. This seasons villains are refreshing and powerful.
Episode 1:
Breath of Fresh Air is such an apt title man. Specifically for Korra herself. I remember a lot of people had issues with her in the first half of season 2, I was definitely one of them. But looking back I get her a little better. However, Korra at the beginning of Book 3 seems to have really found her footing. She’s still hotheaded but she also has this sort of calm about her, like we see when she’s talking to that guy on the bridge.
I also just appreciate that her and Asami get along so well, even with all the crap the first two seasons threw at them.
Awkward Mako is best Mako.
Episode 2:
Asami really is just that friend who will get you the fanciest shit. Her rocking up to Air Temple Island with one of those blimps was priceless. She’s so proud, so extra.
The gathering of our baddies! I like that each of them seems to have a very specialized way of Bending.
Episode 3:
The lesson, children, is that Ba Sing Se will never not be the Worst City Ever.
I also appreciate that Asami gets to kick ass. Underutilized, but still Best Girl.
You are such a happy spirit. Pretty rare to find people happy like yourself. Lol
Remember the egg Zuko got when he re-learned fire bending with Aang?
The Sunstone has nothing to do with Druk
8:36 that’s earthbending lol when ever they’re airbending it’s showing
Yeah I mistook the enormous gush of air for air bending 😆
Ming-Hua is voiced by Grey-DeLisle Griffin, the person who voiced Azula
Book 3 finally! For me the best book in the entire Avatar universe. It's just so incredibly good. Can't wait for the reactions!
zaheer is the best avatar villain from both shows
Enjoyed your reactions to the other two seasons yeah season 3 i never started, 2 seasons i watched only and reacted to your reaction to those two seasons now i guess your first time to season 3 will be my first time aswell i think or maybe i forgot that i started season 3 but not finished it i forgot where i left of i just thought watching your reactions would help me remember
It's not about air being more spiritual connected, it's about nature bringing balance to the world and having more airbenders
7:04 Those lines from Tenzin break my heart a little every time
I think you're gonna like this season a lot. It's my favorite one, for several reasons. And the finale was amazing.
Hi Oscar; my youngest (Kim) and l love your "Cocoa Couch". Of which do you ever see yourself do some with a Sci-fi focus? 🙄
N.B Personally l really love films like "Signs", "The Martian", "Contact" and "!nterseller" etc.
in terms of using water bending without arms, it’s like when given a disability ur more open to other ways of bending like how toph is blind so she uses earth bending to “see” in a way through her seismic sense. while the use of arm movements is the traditional way of water bending, it’s bc it’s what people know and has worked, but until another way is explored people won’t know the possibilities. a method of adapting and survival
I just need an explanation. It was pretty clear when Toph learnt to earthbend it was an essential tool that allowed her to see. It made a lot of sense that she became so brilliant since she was actually able to understand FEELING the earth more with her body rather than seeing it, also the first earthbenders were blind too. As for water bending, it was the moon. I’d be fine if they just explained it or made her being armless an essential reason as to why she’s so good at waterbending like she feels the push and pull of the moon or something mystical 😆. Idk i just think it’s lazy for a writer to just say she can do things others can’t because she’s limited, there needs to be a good reason for it like Toph.
I love your reaction to Legend of Korra Season three is greatest season ever.
Oh wow, I literally just caught up to all your S2 reactions like an hour ago
with the physical world reunited with the spiritual world, nature can finally start returning itself to a balance - hence spontaneous air benders
Well, I have to say, Zaheers German voice has just so much more impact. It's nearly shocking to see how "boring" he sounds in the original 😅
been waiting for this, season 3 and 4 our in my opinion the best
Episode 3 of this season always makes me wonder what Mako and Bolin's family on their mother's side is like.
Remember, Bumi could earthbend using just his chin!
If you thought season 2 ended well, that's a whole different level of positivity. I absolutely loathed that season and it just gets worse and worse and the final battle being this weightless kaiju battle with lasers was just too much for me. On the other hand, this season is awesome, with only minor flaws.
If you see when the water emerges she do an odd twisting motion to bend it
I saw the surprise benders bending well, sans Zaheer, as being in part due to like, emotions and wild out of control bending
"The Earth King has invited you to Lake Laogai". Remember "There is no war in Ba Sing Se".
I love this season! 1 and 3 are my favorites 😊
I love this season because of the plot but some relationship dynamics and character development may be disappointing sometimes, but the story is really good here
I must say this is actually my favorite season of TLOK, hope you enjoy it.
Love your reactions BTW
An evil Airbender is such a frightening concept
I'm so excited you're finally on my favorite season 🤩
Yay, we’re finally here! Great reaction as usual, can’t wait to see the rest of the series, I really think you’ll enjoy it.
I see that you enjoy animated movies with animals like Rio and Zootopia. A movie that I think you’ll enjoy is called The Bad Guys.
Given what the others in the squad can do, it's no surprise that she can waterbend without arm movements
"City of walls and secrets"
This is the best season of the show. The villains are amazing!
18:07 OH THAT'S NOT- LMAOOOO
