    Jimothy,
I believe the cunning Pokémon Scraggy managed to fool you with a stealthy trick: While it is indeed catchable in the dark grass of Unova's Route 1, that dark grass can only be reached once you can use the Surf HM. With this stunt, Scraggy managed to take a spot in this list that its fellow Gen 5 dark type Purrloin (catchable on the first route of BW2) might have had a stronger claim for.
An unfortunate side effect is that Jumpluff, a very hard-working Pokémon, was denied a place in the Top10 by Scraggy's schemes, which could have devastating effects on its morale. I advise anybody to subscribe to Jimothy Cool, as I'm sure Jumpluff would be thrilled to see its Johto friend Furret collaborate with Mr Cool. Thank you.

Audino is actually in a similar situation, though less egregious - while available in rustling grass on route 1, the grass won't actually ever rustle until after getting the first gym badge (and maybe getting a tutorial, I don't remember exactly)so it's not available until a little further in the game

    • @gonzasaurio5046
      @gonzasaurio5046 3 месяца назад +12

I don't believe it would be OU with Moody, the ability is banned not because it's absolutely broken, but because it is simply uncompetitive and unfun to play against. One game you'll get lucky and sweep instantly and next you'll just lower your defenses in exchange for useless Special Attack (in Bibarel's case). It would not be used much because of its unreliability but a lucky player might snatch some games that they didn't deserve to win.

A lot of these pokemon are actually quite useful in Random Battles. Furret gets Tidy Up to clear hazards and level scaling means it's surprisingly fast and can hit pretty hard with Double Edge. Dubwool was also infamous for being a powerful win condition since if you kept it in "Fog of War" the opponent has no way of knowing all their physical wincons will likely be useless later.
Gumshoos also hits like a truck if you are forced to switch into it.

Believe it or not, Dustox is also used in generation 6 ZU as a decent Defogger. Shield Dust is great when switching into Pokemon like Politoed. It can get momentum with U-Turn/disrupt opponents with Whirlwind or spread Poison with Toxic. It also loves taking advantage of specially offensive Grass-types with its decent bulk.
It also held a momentary niche in ORAS PU as well. Machoke was a huge nuisance with No Guard Dynamic Punch + Eviolite bulk. Dustox could abuse the most common set for it (D-Punch/Knock Off/Rest/S-Talk) and could go for a minisweep/act as a pivot into a stronger teammate since Shield Dust blocked the confusion effect.
I'd still rank it kind of low on the Route 1 tier list, but IMO, it should be higher than Oinkologne.

Spidops' Insomnia ability is completely irrelevant because it also has Stakeout, one of the better abilities to have. That's why STAB U-turn and First Impression should be respected in an appropriate power level. Additionally Spidops can phaze out switch-ins with Circle Throw to rack up Spikes damage or poison enemies when Toxic Spikes are up.
By the way: Those traits make Spidops a good S/A tier choice in low tier draft leagues, which are typically on a lower power level than ZU and feature a lot of NFE mons as well as some little cup mons even. Gen 9 ZU is way too overbearing of course, with ridiculously powerful mons like Vikavolt running around.

I'm not sure if Scrafty should be included here. Yes, it is found on Route 1 in Gen 5, but only after you get Surf, which requires multiple gyms to be defeated. It's like considering Gyarados a Route 1 Pokemon because you can fish up a Magikarp in Pallet Town

Pidgey is so iconic that in X/Y they made it happen, that the first pokemon that you will encounter is a pidgey in the first high grass part of route 2. And I've also seen people who didn't know that while playing a nuzlocke so most nuzlocke dude in X/Y have a Pidgey in the beginning.
As i played a nuzlocke i said that i have too catch the second mon there and it is forbidden to catch this pidgey to have the randomness of a nuzlocke

I dont think scrafty should count because it's only available on route 1 after you obtain surf, basically for the same reason that headbutt trees werent counted. Not that it matters much anyway.

I remember when I got gen 4, and I caught a starly. I though 'oh wow, generic bird, it's just gunna be my fly hm bitch I'll inevitably replace.'
Thought that for 33 levels. Level 34 ding however, and dude shows up learning close combat?!? Looks at his attack and speed stats. They're actually good?!?
And the cherry on top? It's cry. REEEEEEEEE!!! This dude screams at the top of his bird lungs when entering combat, and even still manages to be badass when he goes down.
I love Staraptor. Going from generic boring bird to a flipping psychotic berserker in 1 evolution.

Thievul is probably my favorite early route pokemon next to Mightyena and pretty much all the other dogs on this list (if we count galarian zigzagoon, and by extension Obstagoon, he's also SUPER up there)
I used him as an Unburden Sweeper, having a previous pokemon set electric terrain so he'd get the defense boost, have him set up with nasty plot, and proceed to melt things while being faster than like everyone haha

Favorite route 1 pokemon is probably Talonflame, I found gale wings to be a ton of fun in gen 6 OU, which is when I was the most active in competitive pokemon, gives me a lot of nostalgia vibes. Also, I always loved Mightyena, pokemon Ruby was my first video game, so anything Gen 3 has a place in my heart.

Noctowl has a niche in very low tiers in gen 9 due to being a relatively bulky mon with defog, which has become rather scarce this gen.
So it can do reliable damage with nightshade.
