  • Special thanks to those who suggested songs to include in this one. I was bit overwhelmed by the idea of tackling this huge decade of guitar riffs and was putting it off for ages. Tried to include as many as possible but I'm sure there's plenty more great ones not featured here. Feel free to suggest others that you may have included.

I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself. Hey Paul!

@@user-qs7ip6we5m Been a big Genesis fan, ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand, any of their work, too artsy, too intellectual .. It was on Duke, where, uh, Phil Collins presence became more apparent .. I think "Invisible Touch" is the group's undisputed masterpiece .. It's an epic meditation on intangibility .. at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the proceeding three albums

I know I'm gonna sound like an Old Geezer, but I'm 52 and it's about time I acted the part; but how cool and diverse it was back then, and well into the nineties. The fact that we recognize (almost) each and every one of this riffs, shows how Creativity, and not only virtuosity, was the main commandment back then. The miopic division between this or that genre being 'more valid' effed up things quite a bit. It's only rockandroll, but we like it!
