2024, still listening to this awesome song, the intro is insane.
Dave poppin off
I just revisited this video and most people simple don’t get what an absolutely freaking phenomenal musicianship this is…the band are ALL on key, in the groove and nailed it…I’m jealous as a MF because I wish I had the skills to roll like these cats! Never will it ever get old…FANTASTIC. Thanks guys for bringing a smile to face, once again!
How Is Ian Thornley not in conversations when it comes to best vocalist in rock ever.? Never mind his phenomenal guitar playing. The entire band is bad ass.
Just too good to be true , what an intro ..........
Kudos to the sound engineers
Well, now I am 70 years old. I am still completely taken by these guys! Still listen almost every day.
Impossible to not move when hearing this intro.
His Bandmate lived 1 KM from our house and taught local kids guitar lessons how humble is that, RIP Brian from Camlachie On. Canada
Ian Thornley. One of the strongest voices in rock...ever.
kentsbay. Right on. First time I heard this song I had no idea who it was. I thought bit was a Peter Gabriel song I'd never heard before. !???!
Then he lays into that lead solo and I thought it was Stevie Ray!!!
Highly underrated for sure
Canadian Cornell
@@SDCDIABLO Haha yeah I totally agree. Just discovered these guys tonight . Its a shame they are very good but don't get much recognition or publicity. I only discovered them by chance. The main singer both looks and sings just like Cornell
Yes. Much more too!
I have watched that video 100 times and I'll watch it another thousand times I get lost in the individual instruments
The bass player is badass!
The ONLY thing that beats Big Wreck...is live Big Wreck.
BREN Agreed ! So amazing live 🤘
Ya these guys are phenomenal. So much feel and emotion. Very rare these days.
I FINALLY did get this - Canada Day, here in my hometown - just jammin' out with all my faves after almost 20 years and then I get to see them in Guelph not three weeks later - all the turquoise guitar riffs and "let's try this out for you folks tonight" and just YEAAAAAH.
Jesus murphy you won the internet 6 years ago and I'm awarding you winner again! Haha
Holy shit that' was freaking mind blowing. Ian Thornley is one of my favorite live singers ever. I've seen him three times and every time he entered god level vocal territory and i've seen the best of the best live and Ian maintains his excellence above all the rest of them. I too was a rock vocalist of great talent so I know what i'm talking about.
best band I heard since a very long time. Thanks to Rick Beato I discovered this wonderful group.
Haha, I love how he almost fawns over Ian in that interview. It was a great one, hearing two musical masterminds talk shop. 👍🏼
1😊@@happycanayjian1582
We need more solos like this in modern music. It's as if no one knows how to play guitar anymore
Well, there are many who can floor you technically for 50 seconds on Instagram or RUclips, but as Ian said in an interview "what else have you got? What's your band like?" . I thought that was well put.
Damn that intro was disgustingly funky! I likes it! Ian has a one of a kind vibe with both his vocals and his guitar playing that is mesmerizing! Highly underrated musician.
Ian’s vocal intonation is just an inspiration. No one is hitting with that precision in rock music. I love how the band stretches out when improvising ✅🔥🔥🔥🙌👑
It shows how the music industry is so awful today when just the bass player has more talent than all the artist in the Top 40 combined. These guys are just too damn good!
Yep but now with there new album there are get what they should be getting in the top 10 or but rock is so dead no one pas that much attancion to them or band that are in the simailor from as them
Yeah and the radio version was drastically reduced as well. It's a damn shame.
Some people in the top 40 have some crazyyy theory talent and production skills, i get where youre coming from but, its respect for all artists!
@@Pursuitofbalance 95% of radio is artists playing someone else's written song, or some crap made at home with samples. I like a lot of it, but it's not the same animal as a group of guys building chemistry with one another, and playing the instruments themselves.
wow ok so first of all, bass is super important and takes INCREDIBLE amounts of talent to play. Much more than any instrument I've ever played
These guys don't have to rely on showmanship or anything except pure talent. They take you on a pure musical journey. Judt love it.
Breaks my heart to see Brian Doherty in this vid. Gone way too soon. Big Wreck is just a massive gift to our ears though. Crazy talent.
All I can say as a 69 year old woman is they are AWESOME. Loved them ever since I heard That Song. Beautiful.
I can say as a 70 year old woman, you are exactly right! Damn! They are excellent! ❤️🌹❤️
If I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life, this would be it!
that solo just screams SRV tone and is very Texas flood in its sound. love it.
I swear every week I come back to this video, their collective ability is just off the charts
Big Wreck should put out an album with all the songs they recorded at the Suhr Factory Party. I would buy the fuck out of it.
buy the fuck right out of it, me too
I'd buy the fuck right out of er too! No doubt!!! Unbelievable band.
I would buy that shit all to fuck!!! Did this ever happen? I literally need to know!
How am I only just learning about these guys now!!? Holy smokes! This is one of the grooviest, tightest, most musical songs I’ve ever heard. Everyone knows their place and plays exactly what is needed for the song - nothing more, nothing less. I’ll be back for more.
Have you heard Big Wreck's latest (especially Fear & Cowardice)? GREAT tasty variety!

Welcome aboard
Better late than never
Not to mention one of the greatest live mixes ever - kudos to the engineers, too
It's hard to believe this amazing performance took place over seven years ago now. Time she flies.
Ian Thornley is a MONSTER on guitar and an incredible singer. Every member of this band is so talented. Completely overlooked by most people, as the "music industry" still thrives - completely driven by commerce. It used to be be A&R reps and record labels - now it is the likes of Spotify and "play lists". Great music will always be great music and it will endure. Crap will always be CRAP and the crap "artists" always just fade away like farts in the wind. Always have and always will.
How can this have almost 500K views and only 3.8K likes? So good, forgot to hit the like button? F sakes! Must be!
I know eh? Unstinkin' real. Love it. So talented. Just so natural.
Just checked I hit it...
Ian thronley has quickly become one of my favorite guitar players. The dudes phrasing is awesome and he takes risks improvising live. Love it
👍🏻 check out Monte Montgomery too!
Quite possibly the best guitar players ever.
I heard this song for the first time on 102.1 The Edge a few days ago. I have been OBSESSED with it since.
I remember in 2014 hearing this on Canadian Radio stations while living in Washington State. It got stuck in my head. Wait, the same band that played "The Oaf" from Boston are playing this? This song rocks HARDER!!! Instant fan!
Love this jam!
I’m a drummer myself but I can sure appreciate that funky bass and oh man Ian’s killer killer guitar.
Holy shit this is an experience with headphones. Such an underappreciated band, amazing musicians.
I don't know if this will ever be read by Ian or any member of his band, but... In 2014 I suffered a near fatal illness, and while my recovery has been slow, the music from this band pulled me back. I have literally walked over 200 miles listening to Big Wreck. The complexity, song crafting, musicianship and depth of lyric content is a banner for all things songwriting. I've heard Ian say that if he were to "define" the music of Big Wreck, he would say that it is "quality". I can't think of a better description of their craft. All I can say is thank you to Ian and the guys. Your music has literally pulled me back from the brink. I wait in anticipation for the new record and plan to walk another 200 miles to it.
Glad you're doing OK. :)
They really are such an epic band aren't they? Keep going strong brother.
Brilliant story and eloquently put! I never would have even heard this band without the internet...they have never gotten any play in New Zealand where I was living when I first found them. A mention in a Nickelback thanks list...search....find...LOVE!!! Don't listen to Nickelback much anymore but can't go too long without a Big Wreck fix!!! I know what it's like to have a family member dodge a bullet so really happy for you!!! :)!!!
Awesome and incredible
Tim Roberts Wow Tim, I understand your comment, I just found them, although I do know a few songs from the radio, this song is so well written & played. The beginning gave me a hint that Pink Floyd is a mentor, don't get me wrong, there's lots of original sounding stuff as well. Sweet addition to my music library.
Let's not forget to mention this amazing pocket drummer Chuck Keeping. That drum tone is killer. He's perfect.
I thought it was Gavin Harrison
Amen to ALL of this!! Saw them in Nashville back in the fall of 19’ and he was exquisite throughout. One of the most criminally overlooked drummers in the business. Love everything about his musicianship and him as an unassuming bad azz. 😊❤️🥁👍
Please for the love of all things holy, release this show on DVD/Blu Ray!
Word
That's what I keep commenting every time they post a video on Facebook.
Robbie Fitzgerald Yes a DVD/Blu Ray is a must! Theses are the best performances that I have heard!
Indeed, I would buy a Bluray in a heartbeat, living in Texas not going to see them live any time soon.
Umm more like 3D dude....🍻
Big Sur 2015 needs to be its own live album release on Spotify
This band is so good that it's ridiculous!
I've been waiting for this moment for the longest time...the number of likes was 4,400 when I started listening...and then I tapped the like button. Magically it jumped to 4,500!!! This is rare air I am now breathing! The amazingness of it all!
2019 and I'm still listening to this like it's a brand new Ferrari coming off the line!
They deserve so much more recognition than this!
Thornley was clearly channeling some SRV during the beginning of that solo but honestly took it to some super interesting places outside of typical pentatonic blues scales. Amazing work
Possibly one of the greatest love bands on the planet
Fuck. Anyone who dislikes this doesn't have any respect for music. This is love.
stanley13579 No shit!
The drummer is tasteful. Gets his place in the band. Ian is an absolute beast of a player.
That bassist is fucking inspiring
Great "Song" By "Big Wreck" From "Canada," merci.
Ian gets me every time he does that SRV-esq bend with the upstroke (about 4:40 in this video).
Everything great about every great musician is distilled like the finest single malt Scotch in Big Wreck
man that Bass player kicks some ass
NO SHIT! For a white guy!! I loved Thornley back in '97 and he's still doing great shit 20 years later. Never knew he was THAT good a guitar player. He got to tour with DreamTheater. What unrecognized talent world wide. He's the "Pink" in "Floyd". At least he's back home [insert smiley]
Saw these guys live back in May 2016. They put on an unbelievably awesome show.
And he (Thornley) turned down being front man for Velvet Revolver. He said he didn't want to do it without a guitar.
wrong dude. that was Thornley, not McMillin (bass player).
Thanks, that's what I meant and didn't realize it wasn't clear. I edited the comment.
The 71 downvoters here have no ears, or taste, or soul. This music literally makes my heart beat faster. Best rock band I have ever heard, hands down.
Dave McMillan. Bass Deity. This whole band is obscenely under-know. Ian is a monster guitarist, vocalist and lyricist.
Many years ago, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Eddie Van Helen and Alex Lifeson were sitting together and were wondering who the best guitarist in the world was. As they pondered, B.B. King walked in the room and said “Gentlemen, this is Ian”......!
Up there in the guitar stratosphere with: Eric Johnson, John Goodsall, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Morse & Joe Bonnamassa! Oh yeah, his voice is another topic all together. Such a unique and gifted musician.
I just stumbled across these guys...wow😳

Ghosts is my favorite rock tune of the last 20 years at least. Stunning performance, I just can’t believe Big Wreck isn’t as huge globally as they deserve to be. You guys are awesome, killer musicians. Superb songwriting
Man I love this comment section it is so wholesome thanks everyone
Why haven’t I heard of this band until today? This is music done incredibly well.
Go deep! They are deep and wide! Lotsa styles and sounds all with a masterful dynamic.
Here's the latest EP 7.2 in a playlist. It's a good sampler.

@@betbuk Fear and Cowardice goes incredibly hard
Check out his other band too. Should be easy to find, it's called Thornley lol
@@randomjunk1984 Oh yeah. Went there shortly after my comment lol.
All day ....... feed me some Big Wreck all day !
That friggen guitar solo....😍
I know eh?
We got to open up for them at The Nick in Birmingham years ago. Great show.
It was fans of another B'ham band, Virgos Merlot, that turned me on to these guys.
What a groove. Bass and drums locked in tight. Ian doesn't get enuff credit outside of canada for his badass playing.
2024! Genius live jam out! I fell in love with this band just now. Thank you Big Wreck for the outstanding live music. Time to obsess over you guys. Cheers from KW, Ontario.
Ian is a Monster....Loved this band since the early 90's
ive always focused on the first solo in this performance. i really paid attention to the outro solo this time and holy cow i dont which one's better now. that second solo is insane.
Holy shit! I can't believe this video is 2-1/2 years old and I'm just discovering Ian and Big Wreck. This is stunning musicianship. I'm at a loss for words this is so good.
what a TALENTED band!!..holy smokes...

Came here from the Rick Beato interview, great stuff!!
Simply amazing! Greetings from Brasil!
I always circle back to Big Wreck 💘
Great song so well played, this band will always be one of the greats to me
Prayers 🙏🏼 Love ❤️ and peaceful thoughts . Thank you Brian Doherty ✊🏼💯🎸
Ian is awesome and is a true master of his craft. Nothing but pleasure to my ears.
I didn't care much for this song, not that i thought it was bad or anything, just didn't grab me until I saw them play it live in February, and then holy smokes, I started to love it. So good, not sure what I was missing before.
This is just rhythm and funk .
I remember when I was 19.....20 years ago Big Wreck played in Sarnia, Ont. They had just released their first record. I remember watching them play in Centennial Park and there were maybe 100 of us there. Nobody really knew who they were but they put the best show on that night. I was standing on the speaker stand and gave the bass
guitarist my lighter lol so he could light his smoke lol. They were also from that area. Best live band I have ever seen...especially when they rotated instruments.
Fantastico. The "studio" release of this song shows their production chops, and this live version hammers home just how talented these folks are. Well and truly impressive and satisfying.
I have only recently discovered Big Wreck. I am addicted, they are so so good.
This band and its music is my new crush. Nothing creepy about that. Listening a short while after being introduced to 'That Song' attached to a Tragically Hip playlist. Been telling anyone who listens to music or pretends to like rock-n-roll to check this band out. FLORIDA tour please.
Just listening to this gives me guitar solo face
Ian is the most incredible and underrated artist on the planet. Dave is genius on this tune. One of my favourite BW songs although I love every one of them. I absolutely cannot get enough of BW in my ear every day. Just amazing and incredible.
no THAT is music, holy moly! a festival with BW, STP, QOTSA and Extreme would make my year. no, make it a decade.
First off, these guys are excellent musicians, and the mix job on this song was also excellent. As a guitarist of 55 years, Ian Thornley really makes me wish I had two healthy ears to play that kind of volume and hi freqs out live ... ! What an incredible sound and what incredible guitar playing!
Biggest band in the world Big Wreck! Amazing lads.
Insanely good. And that's clearly an understatement.
Ian's vocals are from another planet !!
This band is amazing. I had heard a couple of songs by them awhile back and liked them, but started exploring all their material recently, and they don't disappoint. Pure talent!
This is absolutely incredible and should put most modern day artists in a closet to hide. Masters at their trade. Spread the good tones of Big Wreck. Teach people about authentic musicianship.
The sound, the tone , the perfection is incredible.
Absolutely phenomenal musicians, listen how tight these guys are!
what a fucking band 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Seriously one of the best rock songs ever recorded.
Ian is my favorite guitar player. I've loved Big Wreck since the 90's. Excellent band.
i get to see this band in my hometown in August 2021 for the first time, very excited
like the other comments posted, if you havent seen Big Wreck live, do it!! Put this band on your bucket list! The value you get from this show is 1000x more then what the ticket price is. Professionals all the way and the band is as tight as a tiger.
Just discovered this band and guitar player ...Fantastic discovery , love to experience talent that blows you away .

I am trying to figure out Ian fabulous outside voicings riffs right now. I played in a band in 2002 with Paulo Neta stage left guitar. Haunting song so addictive
When Chris Cornell and Eric Johnson had a baby...
My.thoights exactly!!
Perfectly said
I hear a lot of Pete Townsend in his guitar style too. Even more than Eric Johnson but maybe thats because Eric Johnson took a lot from Pete also...
@@paulspizzuco5035 Uh its an expression, but actually EJ is 66 years old and could be his dad....
Rather listen to Ian play than Eric though
I’ve somehow managed to not learn about these guys until now. Discovered them on Spotify the other day. How have I never heard of them? These are some crazy talented musicians.
Thank you, Amazon Music, for bringing this great band to my attention. I'm a fan.
A must see live you will be astounded
