i feel like almost everything is a scam now
thegr8rambino so true ! Marketing scams that's it!
Agreed
I don't think so...I think most of the ppl going for coconut water possibly were not looking for alternative to water ...they were using other energy drinks...the rest...I am not sure I have lost hope too 😂
lol life is a scam
If you grow your own foods perhaps you'll be less scammed
Now cover how milk doesn't strengthen bones and does nothing to prevent osteoporosis
Oh my God that is so true, and I am not a vegan and I like my milk, but saying that it strengths bones is just plain lies, hell if you have a vitamin D deficiency it can actually keep harming you.
Manal Bouslihim depends on the type of milk you drink, grass fed raw milk for example is a complete food. It's loaded with Vitamin A ,D and K2. However store bought milk is everything but healthy.
But Black Dynamite I Sell Drugs to the Community! it isn't about being raw or not. when it comes to building bones vitamin D is used like cement and calcium is like cinderblocks. you can't build bones without depleting your stores of vitamin D. and a deficiency in vitamin D causes fatigue and fainting spells.
He just said the raw milk is loaded with vitamin D
Check the molecular problems of cow's milk as opposed to goat's milk-you will be surprise. :P
I’m from El Salvador in Central America and grew up drinking coconut water and lemonade with chia seeds. I really don’t buy much of the hype, but those two things taste really good and that’s why we drink them. There’s nothing more delicious than the refreshing and sweet taste of coconut water at the beach on a hot day. But I’m talking about real coconut water, taken directly from the coconut husk right before my eyes and with tiny bits of coconut meat in it.
Yes!
yeah i grow up un the philippines and grow up drinking coconut water too, buying those stuff in groceries is like buying water with sugar added in it,,,, if you want a better result, drink it directly from the coconut
I do the same
I buy my baby coconuts in a crate straight from the Asian Market. They are far cheaper, fresher and absolutely delicious!... I drink & eat those Coconuts whenever I'm dehydrated, sick or just hungover, works perfectly for me, EVERYTIME!....

Important point missed - Bottle coconut water is 1. Processed, 2.heated/pasteurised & shelved for a long time!!!
And how would that explain HYDRATION? The marketing wank has sunk deeply into this one.
@@corydorastube Maybe you need to learn what pasturization is. Cooking food changes it........ Have you not tried raw and cooked food?
They were not axplain very well how to cook it
@@joshmann7587 easy example half cooked sweet potatoes have 20x more nutrients and vitamins than fully cooked sweet potatoes
Pasteurized=less bacteria
you know what superfoods are? *Local fruits and veg*
yes it is!!!
Nope, organ meats are the real superfoods.
Yup fresh food not prepackaged food
Don’t forget seeds, nuts, berries, herbs, and spices. Oils too, if you really want to go all in.
Rachel is one smart cookie. Unlike some here.
How in the hell do people think anything is more hydrating than water?
Water is the baseline of hydration. That is what water is. It IS hydration.
Right, I also never understood that. Once I saw my aunt putting cucumber juice on her face as she was having cucumbers as part of her breakfast and said that cucumber juice is really hydrating. Cucumbers are 95% water, I thought, why not just pour water on your face instead!?
@@Linaiz what did she say?
@Geno J , ignorant*
I think it’s you that’s being ignorant, because his comment was about hydration. He never said anything about nutrients.
So calm down.
Dead water is stagnant water that is usually warehoused in a dark place so hasn't seen the sun in days, weeks or months. Anyone can google how to make dead water alive again.
Linaiz if what you said was true then when you showered your skin would be hydrated. That’s not true. Putting plain water on your skin/in your nose/in your eyes will draw water out. This is why saline will rinse your eyes/nose without drying them, and Gatorade/pediolyte hydrates you slightly better than water. You want to trap moisture in your skin, and plain water can’t do that.
Gotta love CBC marketplace! I'm glad we have a decent group of people out there who are on the public's side👏it always amazes me how much more they can make a difference than our regulators.
That's packaged water with sugar, not coconut water. Real Coconut water goes bad in a day. And it won't be so cheap for a litre as well even in tropical countries.
TheFourthWinchester I’ve heard that in tropical countries, coconut water isn’t used as a beverage, but as a cooking ingredient.
@@GratiaCountryman we drink it as well. you could buy a cup or two in almost any commercial zone
roro min That’s interesting to know. I had been reading articles with people living with coconut palms saying “we never drink it”. It’s good to have another point of view.
@@GratiaCountryman we drink fresh coconut water occasionally when there's harvest. We have a few short coconut trees in our yard so we just pick the ripe ones in the afternoon and then make it into popular snack called "lamaw". But coconut juice made by mixing coconut water with milk and sugar is a popular go to drink everywhere in the country.
@@GratiaCountryman not true it is used as a beverage the milk is used for cooking
I'm from the Caribbean drink it straight from the coconut it's way better
Nicole Toppin yeah, exactly, I get so annoyed when people say they don’t like coconut water when they haven’t tried the real thing
Nicole Toppin ,yup,I agree with you,get it from the tree without the companies preservatives and extra sugars that you don’t need !!!! 😀😀😀😀😀
It's probably even more tasty damn that sounds good
Derek Wilken I like coconut water for the taste. Didn’t even know it was considered a “superfood” and yeah, I can get a coconut for 1.20€ in France in Paris.
Same from Indonesia too
We're not actually getting "superfoods". We were super fooled.
Santa Joe your right
Santa Joe hi
this is misleading
Joe E. The everyday fruits and vegetables you buy from your local supermarket are so-called "super foods". But the country of fad diets, the U.S. is easily fooled by marketing hype. Funny that the obesity rates are still high despite the imports of quinoa, chia, goji and what have you exotic sounding stuff. I suppose those who eat unhealthy foods cannot afford the imported goods.
Katrina M How about you stop cooking u bozo lmao smh
I like that the Olympian athletes look first at the nutrition label. That is literally how every Canadian should shop. Nutrition label reading should be taught from kindergarten through to High school.
Unfortunately very little focus in education is on nutrition. People look at me like I'm crazy when I spend time reading labels during grocery shopping.
Adrian Martinez Ditto, people are amazed that I read the labels before I purchase any food.
Phoebe Graveyard amen!
Good idea. I routinely look at labels as I'm keto and don't consume carbs -- at all.
But there are a many words for any given nutrients or ingredients it so easy to be tricked I say the less ingredients listed the better and more pure
Living In the tropics you pick an drink coconut directly from the tree...no processing needed . ....cost?......priceless!!
Yeah no. If one didn't grow up with coconuts, then the danger of an allergy is there. *eat the foods that are local to your native land* it's that simple. Yeesh people are dumb
I was once stomach sick on a vacation in Brazil and the hotel people gave me fresh coconuts with straws in it and that was fresh coconut water 100%, I cannot forget about it! It was my salvation from dehydration since I was just losing fluids from diarrhea and vomit.
True! I always feel kinda sick after drinking coconut water... even I actually enjoy the taste!!

Flax seeds are the real mvp. I can buy a 5lb bag for $8. I use it to replace eggs in baked goods. I add it to breadcrumbs and it helps make a thicker crust on pan fried or baked foods. I add it to peanut butter to keep the oils from separating. I use it in my protein shakes to get my omega 3's. I even use it to make hair gel.
But flax are hard like rocks and need to be eaten in powder form...whole flax seeds can't be digested..too hard.

Super food to me means - imported, costly, trendy, and all hyped up.
Real Super food is organic, locally grown, and sustainable.
You can even get these "superfoods" locally grown and much cheaper. Its not that hard to grow them either.
@@patrick05020 Good point! I would sooner buy frozen veggies and fruits (the next best thing to fresh in the off season) than I would put a dime into some overpriced hype. But as long as there are people who literally 'buy into it', these products will remain. When consumers reject a product enmasse it usually goes away. Problem solved.
@@Yosetime dont get me wrong these foods are nutritious and id gladly add them to my diet, but retailers also love to jack up the prices just because.
I’m from the USA and LOVE market place. Please never stop making videos!!! 😭😭😭
I think these claims only happens in USA. In South-East Asia, coconut water is just like water. We drink it because it taste good, but nobody here thinks it's super water or hydrate better. These false claims don't work here because coconut is everywhere.
It might be changing. The coconut claims are hitting Singapore on health enthusiasts. Same beliefs from those who had their exercises interrupted.
they are talking about advertised product, but in our case, we get it naturally. I guess natural form is far better than these products!
In Ecuador, we take the coconut, break it and drink the water. No processed ones are sold.
This is a Canadian program. But marketing in the USA and Canada are basically the same and regulations are similar.
No they're not. Both have drastically different regulations on many things. Our government isn't even set up the same.
American here: I love CBC Market Place ❤ !!!
Thank you for taking price so seriously. I teach high school and many of my students struggle financially. This is a fantastic resource! Very empowering for all of us!
I live in the UK and I find CBS superinformative and interesing
It's CBC. u_u
Sorry to be annoying about it, but it is an important distinction in North America as CBS is a legitimate broadcasting channel. But it's from the States and Market Place is a program produced by the CBC in Canada.
Imjo girl You mean CBC?
I live in the U.S. and I love this channel! Thank you for making this available to everyone! We seriously need this sort of channel in the U.S..
I didn't even notice that people drink coconut water for the work out and hydration thing. I always thought people just enjoy drinking coconut water like I do as a child.
When I watch a marketplace video I feel like I'm making good choices in some areas of my life.
Do we really need to find alternatives to water? Water is like the most purest element we have and makes up majority of our body, there are NO SUBSTITUTES. You may get bored of it from time to time, sure, we're all human, we love variety to keep things interesting. Drink coconut water as a temporary replacement to water for a few days but water can never be replaced from our "diet". It's a life supplement, we can't live without it.
I agree
Pure clean Water is the best for sure but do the test on the chemicals that is in tap water and you will see that today’s water is not like water from 100 years ago.
Water has been corrupted like our food supplies with GMOs . They are not giving you the full picture on water. Water has fluoride, pharmaceuticals drugs, bromine, chlorine and more.
If you can afford a reverse osmosis machine then that water is excellent from this filter otherwise, you are better off with the coconut water
wouldnt recommend only drinking water while running a marathon though. thats a nice way to end up getting hyponatremia
Water is not an "element". Coconut water is like serum with the right amount of minerals etc. And we hope water is just H2O.
I always hated that I was raised and grow up in Croatia- poor country side of the country. All until I moved to Canada and realized how bless actually I was w our homegrown-no chemical food. Our own water source. And occasional hunt in the wilds. I love Canada as my new home but food 😩 I feel like it’s all a scam!
At the end of the day, the Canadian (and American) government doesn't work for the people. They work for corporations. That's why we are among the worst among industrialized countries when it comes to food regulations. Go to Europe, Australia and even some South American countries and you'll be shocked at how much better the quality of their food is, even in the same fast food restaurants we have here. We have extremely low standards and companies take full advantage of it. That's why I shake my head when my friends and family say I'm too picky, for simply demanding that my food be of high quality. I can't believe Canadians think that's an elitist mentality. It should be standard.
It is fully true. I moved to from Europe to Canada and I can say I was shocked by advertising claims, low quality of some food and veggies, unregulated products and claims. Food was better, but it could have changed since I left. Still, milk and its products, strawberries and all berries, tomatoes and other veggies all tasted better. I love Canada, but many things are quite wild here (adds and lack of control for food and water)
Agreed. I'm from Europe and our food quality and laws are very good. Fast food isn't even cheap because it has to have real food (meat, potatoes..) in it
Are we kidding ourselves? There is plenty of research about how “developed” countries grow their food and that food is the biggest reason, developed countries leading the way in obesity and diseases. Of coarse “ underdeveloped” countries starting to go the same way because they follow the same recipes of growing food.
Government and the big corporations are allying to become a food mafia industries.
Aziz Salimov ...you are right....but despite this...our life expectancy keeps moving up...
The packed coconut water also has lot of sugar added
there are brands which doesn't add sugar only the fructose from the coconut.
The coconut water was yellow lol

Here in the Philippines, it's relatively easy for us to get coconuts straight from the trees. Seeing the coconut water you drank shocked me, because I've never seen legit natural coconut water with a yellowish tinge.
Would love to see them review hemp seeds and hemp oil
I eat put chia seeds in my smoothie and I freaking love chia seed pudding.....I eat it because it tastes good and has a great texture....I eat Quinoa because is super delicious....Both have great fiber and both have nutritional value over processed foods.
Isn't it enough that it is delicious and not actively harmful?

Amy Nguyen How when it's not even real milk? I don't want to spend my time on RUclips arguing over the true definition and etymology of he word milk.
so coconut milk cannot be called coconut milk anymore?
I remember being stunned when I found out that the South African government was setting out regulations on what can be labelled as coffee. Until that moment I had vaguely assumed that coffee was coffee, with varying percentages of the bean content. The regulations were specifying how much bean content you needed in a mixture you could call coffee, and what adding chicory to the mix meant. I guess we as consumers can't take our labeling and the claims that are being made for granted.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful information on superfoods
Just a simple fact without the fancy experiments: if any "drink" has added sugar, it's unhealthy. That's it. As simple as that. Stick to plain water.
Yes because all professional athletes are clearly morons for ignoring this half-baked principle you just came up with.
Coconut water doesn't usualyl have added sugar.
It might not be added sugar, but it certainly has far more sugar than is healthy.
Yep! Most coconut waters have 11g of sugar per serving so if you drink it like you would water, you'd be getting way too much!
@@octavian3287 Are you implying we should live like professional athletes?
Coconut water is not that expensive in malaysia. In my area it costs around RM 1.50 or less than 0.50 dollar america. I usually drink it right from the fruit.

people choose quinoa over some other grains because of its low glycemic index, which was ignored
Nathanael Pyron some consume it because it is higher in iron, too, plus, less starch.
Barley, Pasta and parboiled rice are low as well. Way cheaper too. Hippies just make excuses for it because of the super food label. Only a small percentage of the population are buying it for that reason.
rily51day really I did not know that about quinoa will make sure I wash it really well.
@@whiskerbiscuit6674 well rice only stays good for 24 or 48 hours. Quinoa can stay ok for a week. So it can be cheaper and takes less time to cook than rice. That is pasteurized coconut water, which destroys most of the nutrients anyway
What nutrients are "destroyed" by heating something to 70 degrees C. Please list them for us.
Pasteurizing does not change electrolytes or potassium for one.
@@corydorastube As far as minerals (which is really what coconut water claims to contain), the minerals calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc are all damaged and reduced by 60 to 70% by heating. You can't destroy metal ions 😆
You can only chemically reduce them to become elementar metal again (which requires a lot of electric energy) or make them form a salt with anions in which you'll either get unsoluble salts or the salt is instantly solved again and you end up with the same metal ions again
😉

I'm from Kerala, a state in India where coconut water and it's oil is used everyday in one way or another. We use those in our cousine because it's what we used too. And our food and diet is not similar to Western countries. So the coconut and it's products may have affect on us and may be a super food to us but to most of the Western world it won't do any good because of difference in our food and culture.
And If you want to really eat the so called super foods, then eat what's growing near you. If something is from 1000's of miles away then that means that food is not meant for you and for your topography.

Excelente Investigation, INTERESTING!
At 3:20 for a second I thought that was her pee cup haha :D
Coconut water is no stranger to me since I was born in Hong Kong, a price for a young coconut is only less than $2 CAD. That explain coconut water is one of the usual drink we can have over there. Its taste is little nicer than tap water, having electrolyte which help you get your balance back to normal; which also explain why you will feel less thirsty if you consume coconut water. However, at the end, your hydration will be the same if you give enough time to let your body to absorb water/coconut.
Btw, the coconut water I buy only cost me $1 for a 500ml can (100% pure coconut water), since it is literally the same, why spend more with those in 1 litre package for more than $4? Keep in mind that coconut water is for getting hydrated in shorter time period, but replacing it with water is not making any sense.
MingWLee why spend $4? Because that’s how much it costs. You don’t have coconut trees just randomly growing in Canada or eg. Europe
Sorry, I forget to mention that I now live in Vancouver, those coconut water can are made from Thailand and imported here. Actually, there are coconut made from Vietnam too, but the taste from Thailand are better imo ;)
What I was trying to say is, don't fall for what the company are trying to tell you. Whether it is food, drinks, clothing or else, we are the one who is paying for them. Almost every merchandise will go on sale at some point each year, if you can handle your urge to buy these products, wait till it is on sale. On the other hand, there are lots of brand you can buy and getting the same product you desire to have! This buying strategy will save you loads of money, with that extra in your pocket, you can get yourself some treat from time to time.
We have to be smarter as customer or we will fall from all the 'sweet talk' from the company's advertisement ;)
Wow hats off to your work madam
