      Thanks for caring! This video doesn't talk about how the males are treated. They are ground up alive because they are a 'waste product'. This is why many people don't consider any eggs to be ethical.
      I hope you will consider looking into some plant based egg replacements for scrambling and baking. There are many options. Also , you can also get adequate nutrition and be healthier (lower risk for certain common diseases) on a plant based diet! James Aspey on youtube is a good source for more info.

      Sara Koponen It is true, most of the males of laying chicken breeds are going straight to "chopping board", but there are some alternatives. In my country, some farmers grow the male of laying chicken breeds to get its meat because the chicks are lot cheaper

      For scrambling/omelets: followyourheart.com/buyveganegg/
      For baking, here's a chart showing different basic ingredients that work as egg substitutes (although sometimes it's easiest to just Google a vegan recipe): pm1.narvii.com/6235/dbc9af14ff4ee5ece693947c97ff3397d1c06b81_hq.jpg‎
      A different but tasty alternative to eating eggs & toast is mashed avocado on toast, sprinkled with salt.
      Also try tofu scramble (Google a recipe)

    Please note, no one has commented regarding their own chickens. I had the privilege as a youngster to eat eggs from the hen house. They are brown, have a much thicker shell and in my case, had much darker yolks. They were smaller but in my opinion had a stronger flavor than store bought eggs. Hope this was informative and useful.

    • @brajeshsingh2391
      @brajeshsingh2391 Год назад

      that is a great point. the eggs from natural chicken like the naturally grown without any commercial objective have the best taste and flavor.
      The flavor the taste from natural, free growing food is always gong to be better from something that is commercially grown and cultivated. Doesn't matter if its organic or nonorganic. Free range or uncaged or farm grown.
      I think the sheer process and objective of growing more instead of growing naturally interferes with the taste.
      Now I do not know about nutrition because CDC reported that there is no difference in nutrition but the organic ones cost at least 3-4 times more than conventional ones and for a family as the lady said that's a big deal.

      The "farmer" kept talking about good feathering on his birds, but I noticed they had a lot of missing and broken pin feathers. I thought maybe it was moulting season, but the backyard and pasture birds weren't moulting, so the caged birds just looked unhealthy. I raise chickens in a huge backyard pen and I know what healthy birds look like.

    • @hardcorehunter7162
      @hardcorehunter7162 5 лет назад +11

      I raised chickens growing up, and those back yard ones are mostly designer birds. They lay eggs, but they were bread to look pretty. The others were bread with egg output and egg size in mind, feathers aren't important. They aren't show chickens and they aren't pets to look pretty. The average back yard chicken is going to lay 150-200 eggs a year. A production chicken will lay 300-400 eggs in a year. So you're on average getting 2x the production off of each chicken, and hold far more of them in cages.

    Flawed 'blind' taste test, when you react to the correct guess or allow testers to influence each other's input on taste/quality. Maybe have testers fill out a ballet before group discussion on each sample, you'd be surprised how easy it is to influence someone senses and mind by suggestion, " oh I'm getting a rich taste of grass" then suddenly everone else only tastes the grass.

      Basically, the "enriched" chickens are just in a bigger cage jammed in with the same amount of chickens just over a bigger space. Because there are more, they are going to peck more as they are still jammed in together. Ever heard of "the pecking order"? This is what chicken social interaction is about. If they are still jammed in together they are going to attack eachother. When allowed to free range they have much more space to be away from the meaner chooks. Just sayin.

Oh, and never believe chickens aren't smart. I girl Viola can open the laundry room door. Felisha pecks on the door when she hears my grandbabies come in. They love to be held and loved on just like any pet. However, they do have to stay outside (I am always chasing Vi back outside) and they are just as clean as any other pet. I hate to hear people think of them as 'just food''.

    I've routinely gone and purchased these same birds after they're sold off..and they've quite happily lived on our "free range" hobby farm..until the neighbour's dog decided he wanted to try the warm buffet! Each hen had her own name, and knew as well as I where to go to lay her eggs, and loved exactly what she could find to eat outside of the chicken feeder! Me, I didn't always like the thought of what she was eating, and always made sure they were locked up every night to "try" to keep them safe. But it was always a comfortable mix of free range and a coop. The only time we used cages was a crate to bring them home(mandated by law.)

For a huge portion of my life I avoided eating eggs altogether because I thought I was allergic to them. I would get violent stomach cramping about 20-30 min after eating eggs anytime I'd eat anywhere so I just stopped eating them for years. Fast forward to a couple years ago I decided to do my own test to see if my body could tell and I bought some cage-free and free range eggs to try. I ate them and digested them with no problem so I thought I was cured of my egg allergy and could eat them again. Boy was I wrong! I started eating them again whenever we would go out for breakfast and every time...stomach issues. The only time I can eat eggs with no problems is if they are cage-free or pasture raised. My body can definitely tell and I thank farmers for having the option of raising chicken in better conditions producing eggs with more nutrition that are obviously easier to break down in my body.

    I am a single parent and know how hard it is to get together money for groceries. However, I have done my research as "free range" and "organic" doesn't necessarily mean that. I have always made a conscious effort to purchase free range eggs no matter the cost as I know that this is best for my kids as well as the chickens. I miss my chickens in the back yard but I have dogs that "love" chicken. I normally buy the brand Sunny Queen they have a proper free range set up where there are 1500 chickens per hectare of land and they have access to a barn for shelter. These guys even have a camera set up so you can actually see how the chickens are living.

      @b4iwascrzy in America adding "organic" to a product means very little.... maybe in other countries there is stricter guidelines

      @@resresres1 In America "Certified Organic" does mean something. Just the statement "Organic " not so much, but better than not. Either way more expensive to produce.

    The key sign of any bird's mood are their feathers, bald spots and soiled feathers mean an unhappy stressed bird. Research your brands, im planning to go free ranged.

    Excellent info and comparisons. I will continue to raise my own eggs on pasture and feed non GMO feed. The bug season starts here in April and goes on through October in Alabama. My girls produce the best eggs anywhere and don't eat eggs if I don't have my own. But for folks who are all about cost, one can see the difference in the person, overweight and older beyond their years.

    I used to buy eggs from the shop until I went by an egg farm. Since then I have been buying eggs directly from a farm where the hens walk free and fed on grains and leftover food.
    These cost twice as much but worth it when I know that the hens live a good and natural life.

    I wonder if Dan has really been able to convince himself that those hens are happy? Dan, proportionally, would you be happy in a room that big, 24 hours a day, for the rest of your laying days?

    I am actually curious with the nutrients. When cooked, do the nutrients retain? and by how much?

    • @kayholand_
      @kayholand_ 3 года назад

      It depends on the amount of time you will cooked them. Apparently it is good to well cook the white but the yolk, which has the biggest nutritional content, must be just slightly cooked.

    The thing about factory farns and the mass production of food is ITS NOT going to work for much longer according to the UN. At some point we as a world need to give up factory farms for the whycommunity partnership within each community as thats the only way to sustain so many people in a growing population!

    • @hengineer
      @hengineer 7 лет назад +1

      Huh? The UN is doing a major disservice to the entire underdeveloped world, then. So many people are starving worldwide because of the high cost of many foods. Factory style farming drops prices dramatically to the point where food becomes easier for poorer people to afford.

    Thanks for the rundown on eggs. I am 63, I care for my Mother who is 91. I have no money other than RUclips income. Which was curtailed due to less than 1000 subscribers. Keeping food on the table is a matter of garage saling items I had collected over a lifetime. I think little of how a product is produced. I must adhere to the price factor and hope for the best. My worst fear is I still have another 40 years on the clock.
