Temu is owned by PDD Holdings, a company founded in China that has been credibly accused by members of Congress as being linked to the Chinese Communist Party. Congressional investigators also believe Temu is illegally selling products made by forced labor in Xinjiang, where the Chinese Communist Party is committing genocide against the Uyghur people. Uyghur peoples who are imprisoned and enslaved in concentration camps are being forced to create much of Temu’s goods.
I had never heard of Temu before watching this video. You guys have given Temu an additional 1.1M new users. I hope they paid you for this free extensive advertising.
If an American company did this, they would be on tv saying: “we optimized our operations to maximize shareholder value and believe that small government and fewer regulatory hurdles are the key enablers for value creation. Our mission is to bring the lowest prices to the consumer market place. Tariffs create an unnecessary hurdle that presents friction for the consumer and we strategically have bypass this and return value to our clients in the form of savings.”😂
The thing is, the average consumer do not care about tariffs or politics if they can save some money. If you want people to stop shopping there, you need to make a more convincing case.

The fact that China can produce an actually functioning smart watch for less than 10$ is absolutely insane. That's the price of a handheld toy, not something with a microprocessor inside it. It could be the worst smartwatch ever. But for 10$? It's a tech marvel.
What you are seeing is the west being intimidated by Chinese tech. "It's trash, that's why it's so cheap so don't buy" Meanwhile we continue to buy overpriced stuff from Amazon that breaks in 2 months....but it's Amazon so no one bats an eye. Just buy another one. $26 to produce each unit but the cost of Research and Development is where the price tag is. Engineers work for years tinkering with hardware to make smaller, thinner, faster chips. They make up this huge cost with the Apple price tag. China reverse-engineers the stuff and produces knockoffs. They don’t have to spend money on R&D.
When I first started my wholesale business in the US, my import used to be less than $800 per shipment. But after doing my math, I would have a unit cost of at least double than if I had imported a larger shipment. Which only makes sense because the larger your shipment, your unit cost goes down. This use to be a competitive advantage that US based sellers have against foreign sellers on sites like Amazon and eBay. Now, I'm seeing warehousing/fulfillment companies offering storage space for bulk imports from manufacturers from China so that Chinese sellers/manufacturers can now ship directly to American buyers and compete directly with American sellers.
Disgusting isn't it? I haven't shop on any of the above mentioned stores ever or in over a year because of the many things they are doing to American based businesses.

I have bought coffee frother, headphones etc and they work great.
After a certain point, yes. But with platforms like Wish and Temu you're essentially transferring the cost of production and shipping to the poor sods working in sweatshops and the ridiculous idea that shipping from China should be subsidized because of some archaic law. It's a completely unsustainable business model and an environmental disaster.

The secret of temu's cheap goods is that they directly establish a relationship between factories and consumers without intermediaries to make price differences. And the same products can only reach consumers through multi-level dealers and retailers on Amazon.

I think a lot of this push back is, in the back of their minds, politicians know we have a competitive problem and use alternative narratives to avoid just acknowledging that AS the root of the problem. Back in the 50's, Japan had a reputation for shoddy goods. They improved quality and offered better prices. Even in the 70's, Japanese cars were not the thing they are now. In the 80's you got that Gung Ho movie (with Micheal Keaton in it, a 'pop' reaction) as we struggled this with what's an identity crisis in where the U.S. stands in manufacturing. The torch is passing still and will continue. I expect India will be the next push-back as they are a rising technological power as well. What's ironic is a LOT of what we've preached to these countries regarding manufacturing that's made them so competitive are things we've failed to follow through on ourselves (complacency).
China and India have the power of amount of people, indians are not smart, i have worked with them for years. Their culture is to scam people, even when getting job, for every good worker there are 1000 that dont know nothing.
The US never had a reputation for quality goods. India is not a "power" in any sense. 70% of its families earn less than 150 USD a month, and it ranks near bottom in most human development indices. Unless India invests in its population, its demographic dividend will remain a mirage

I like how Wish doesn't get nearly as much of the criticism that Temu and Shein get even though they do the exactly same thing. Perk of being an American company I guess. Same with Vine and TikTok.
Wish is also an "American" company. The difference between Temu and Wish is that Temu is pushing hard. Really hard. Tons of money is being pushed towards getting grabbing western users.
They might not pay duties or regular shipping rate but they pass the savings directly to the consumer instead of keeping them as profit. Meanwhile the local retailer might pay their fair share of taxes but their prices are tripled or more for the same product. We need companies that compete fairly and responsibly and also not gouge the general public.
It’s interesting how the government keeps saying companies like shein and temu have an unfair advantage over other COMPANIES by shipping things under 800$ to avoid paying tariffs BUT they don’t say that it’s the CONSUMERS who benefit from this since these companies are able to make things more affordable for the everyday people, WHILE abiding by the law. If the government has problem with this, then hey just lower the cutoff! They write the game rules anyways. It’s very easy to see whose interests they have in mind 😃😃
What’s important is the world gets better, people suffer less because of cheaper products from china that give them better lives than ripped off products at the same quality.
Of course, they're not going to talk about the good for customers. Because they're focused on the bad for themselves. I truly don't care about these apps, I 100% believe that American apps are stealing data from us as well. Mehta definitely knows too much about me!
An online shopping platform tha allow the manufacturer set the selling price to sell directly to the consumers without a middle men, genius. It's a win win for everyone.
It's not a *"WIN"* for Americans losing jobs (therefore not earning money TO SPEND) as China is manufacturing and selling 50% of the imports coming into this country while *avoiding* paying the tarrifs that protect fair competition from American manufacturing companies and the people who buy bread and butter with their paychecks from working at these American companies.
Well technically temu is the middleman but they do shorten the process of manufacturing, warehousing, distributing, and retailing the products. Temu would literally just be like brokerage for a manufacturing company/companies.
Can't blame Temu, it serves its purpose to the other side of humanity well. At least, it doesn't go to the extreme in pretending to be some brand name then charges people 20 times what it actually costs to produce.

You really reckon your personal data worth that much?? There's a lot things that can harm for our health from dangerous material yet they can get away with it because it's not consumable. And yes you can find $10 watches, that should be only strap band price. If you have to buy something make sure to know what campany from, what material they used, and there's product number. Some company here start to realize some smart consumer and they tried to used safe material and added QR code for authenticity. Please use this type of product. And always remember the rule when buying things, sometimes the cheapest ended up being a cost more.
the thing is...in America, you might be paying 10x for the same item. The American CEOs just kept the profit. You can't really compare prices from china vs pricing from America. The later includes management's bloated salaries.
“To most people on the street, it just looks like an Apple Watch.” The LAST reason I bought my Apple Watch was because of what other people thought. I bought it for its functionality. I couldn’t care any less as to what it looks like.
For a lot of people it IS a bragging right, and they love to show off how "wealthy" they are. It's just the world we live in, the poorer you are the more you want to convince others that you aren't
It has less function than a majority of other premium smart watches on the market. I still don't think it even has a swipe keyboard to type normally like on every other device.
If you have an Android phone, most of the Apple Watch's features are useless because they don't mesh well. If I want a watch that looks expensive as a conversation piece, I'll get a $400 Chinese Tourbillon mechanical watch. Plus a small fitness band.
That's weird since Apple devices have the lowest cost-effectiveness of tech out there. They're overly expensive with lack of functions that cheaper devices have. Hence the common thought process is that people must buy an inferior product only because it's popular.
Let's get this thing straight. First, you must understand that - people are always interested in deals. For example, no average shopper will reject a discount offer that enables them to buy 2 solid shoes for the price of 1. It's really that simple.
Not entirely correct. No average “uneducated” shopper… Smart shoppers buy on need, quality, and durability. For example, the uneducated shopper buys a pair of $40 shoes based on price. Less than 4 months later, defective workmanship or materials render the shoes unwearable. They were cheap so I’ll just get another pair and spends another $40. Now, cash outlay is $80 plus additional shipping and handling, let’s say $10 per order making total outlay $100 for the two pairs. Then, they might repeat the process one more time for another $40+10=$50. Total outlay is now up to $150 for the shoes over the first year. The educated shopper might bypass the $40 shoes and spend $100 for a better quality shoe. Outlay $110, assuming the same $10 S&H. These shoes last 2 years without needing replacement. Averaged out, these shoes actually on cost the buyer $55 for the single first year as opposed to the uneducated expenditure of $150 over the same period. So, the uneducated, price-based shopper is spending $95 more for the poorer quality shoes than the educated shopper. This will almost climb to $190 more if buying habit continues for an equal two-year period. Oh, inside secret, the profit, to a large degree, is hidden in the S&H, not the product itself.
Jim, there are more average shoppers willing to grab a deal than those who understands quality. Temu (in this case) is leveraging on the strength of average shoppers and not those looking for extra quality. As a matter of fact, you will find 10 average shoppers before you will come across 1 shopper who understands quality. It's human nature embedded in business science. I do e-commerce, so, I know exactly what I'm talking about. People are everywhere looking for deals. And, trust me, they will grab it (first) before seeing the wrong. I totally understand your point. Which simply means - "penny wise pound foolish". However, you can't chase average shoppers away from making that mistake. As a business, your concern is to sell; not to correct shoppers reasoning. If they want original / quality, they know where to go. @@Picla_Peremohy

exactly the same thing in Australia, not rocket science is it! Simply make the companies pay the sales tax (in our case 10% on everything) on their total sales & they'll figure out how to set up their site to bill consumers for it :). Interesting long term outcome of that & the pandemic & shipping delays & national pride & care for each other has been a lot of small scale sellers setting up in Australia & now being legitimately able to compete with the overseas sellers on price. Normally marginally higher, due to higher postage rates here, but more than worth paying when considering the faster delivery time & also better consumer guarantees in the case of faults with the product or any other issues

The LAST reason I bought my Apple Watch was because of what other people thought. I bought it for its functionality. I couldn’t care any less as to what it looks like.
Fr lol, Apple Watches can be as cheap at $150, it’s not really a fashion statement or a bragging right. What matters is the function of the watch
To be honest i have never been disappointed. I know where its coming from. sizes fit and as described products.
Let's get this thing straight. First, you must understand that - people are always interested in deals. For example, no average shopper will reject a discount offer that enables them to buy 2 solid shoes for the price of 1. It's really that simple.
I don't disagree, but the way you worded your statement made it seem like you had more than just one thing to say lol
Oh yes... .. Lol Lol@@willus259
Exactly!@@mmecharlotte

Never got the appeal of all Chinese sites that sell low quality knock offs, unnecessary gadgets and disastrous fast fashion. You get what you pay for - crap. Those claiming that you get quality for much cheaper are simply lying or are used to buying shoddy products. In the age when we are supposedly seriously concerned about environment, allowing such companies to do business in Europe and North America is hypocritical and against all we are fighting for. Consumerism is revolting.
You don’t understand a lot of things. Good thing is the world does not depend on your understanding
I literally got 2 temu ads back to back 😂😂😂watching this
Asides from electrics. That $5 hat, kitchen specular that you buy, cost like .50 cents to make.
Waiting for the reupload lmao the audio is scuffed
Are the Uyghurs really complaining about their paid jobs though? Why doesn't CNBC simply interview a "forced" laborer to see what they say about their situation?
I won't buy anything from them on principal just because of their annoying as hell ads on RUclips.
By from them just to give middle finger to MSNBC
There's no evidence of "genocide" and "forced labor" in Xinjiang or in the rest of China.
U.$. government, politicians, NGOs and media ...are spreading disinformation and xenophobia.
As a matter of fact... Islamic nations are not condemning nor boycotting China.
Recorded with a Temu microphone?
“Xinjiang genocide “, “Uighur forced labor”. ???
There’s no cure for jealousy, I’m afraid.
Chinese e-commerce and short video competition is insane domestically and will crush the current high pricing in the US
Hope it can come true.
temu is awesome but they need to start selling bigger items and also stop flooding my inbox with offers 😁
I’ve spent a couple thousand already on Temu and I love the quality of the stuff. The price is unbeatable. I find nearly everything I need on here. Shipping is relatively quick. Any issues ive had they quickly refund me. I even got my family on it. A sweater that at the Guess store costs me $75+ on Temu I pay $16 IF that.
Does the quality change after being washed?
Was your sweater the same quality?
Yes, China will give you some sweet first. Then they will wipe off all the jobs and businesses from US. And it would be too late.
stop lying, we know you're broke
@@missssophisicated6742 All the stuff I bought is still fine. They have reviews on each item. I read those before buying
I've been doing the same with Ebay for years. The problem for some is that u have to wait from 3 weeks to up 3 months, but is cheap, Chinese don't pay for shipping the same price as Americans (which i guess is jot good because Americans taxes pay for that) but i used to buy cheap stuff from Ebay for years at a fraction of the price...
Temu is faster, it takes about a week. They ship their items to a warehouse beforehand and then the warehouse ships it out to you.
We are sheep 😢😂😂
Not really.
Freedom of choice.
How about you lower goods cost in USA first? Customer will not care where these goods are come from considering everything nowadays are so expensive in USA. Those big companies just wannna make money and keep us poor.
I do love Temu‼️👍🏻 Every package I receive has been opened and resealed. I am assuming by the United States Government. Super cheap, and I will continue shopping.
I love buying things made in America like hand-made stuff sold locally.
You are helping American dollars to go to China.

Recording from her airpods too!! 😂
watching this just made me wanna go on temu 😂
Working at a warehouse temu packages by the pallet are loaded in our trucks. Consumerism really got y’all hooked but hey without y’all I wouldn’t have a job so…
I'm sure you could find something else. As long as someone wants something somewhere, there's a place for you.
Your advice and ideas are always very useful and applicable in real trading. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation.
Oh wow I’ve brought several hundreds of dollars from Temu some has been cheaply made but the clothing has been a winner for me don’t purchase electronic nor jewelry period because they want work period. On thing I can say is that if something is damaged and unable to wear they will give you your money back or they’ll give you quick store money credit that equal what you paid to purchase something else meaning you want have to wait 3-5 day money back guarantee return. I like Temu just have to chose items carefully one time I brought a video ring camera it was a dud brought a different it also was a dud bedding not good size right bathroom items not good periods so buyer beware before purchasing those things
Kudos to you for patronizing Temu.
There's only allegations and accusations against Temu and Shein ... No evidence whatsoever.
As a matter of fact... Islamic nations are not condemning nor boycotting China.
The Uygur Genocide thing was just an excuse to levy economic sanctions on China, but does consumer like us care? If consumer behavior past and present were of any indication, the answer is NOT ONE BIT.

We used to have the same in Sweden but it was geting out of control to many packages. now we charge the sales tax directly on the Chinese platform they then pay it to our country. This way the customs and import is still easy and fair for everyone.
exactly the same thing in Australia, not rocket science is it!
Imagine buying an electric car this way in the future. Our ability to compete with these guys has for the past 30 year been on a constant downwards trajectory.
Now, Im going to buy that watch.
Great, it will last maybe a whole three months.
@@fenrirggfor 10usd, that is good enough.
$10 I can afford but $ 500 no
We're over-vilanising Shein or Temu, but in France, when I need a kitchen accessory or a bathroom organizer, I won't necessarily go to Ikea or local supermarket and pay 30€ or so, for an acrylic or "bamboo" organizer, when I can get the very same thing for 10€ or less from Asian e-commerce. Whatever you can get in UE, it's made in China but eventually assembled in the Netherlands...
The quality is the same, but the price is more pocket friendly, especially in the recession.
As for the quality, let's just say that everything will break if you don't take care of it or if it's made to be repurchased.
And also what you can find on Amazon for 26€, you'll find for 6€ on Shein, sooooo.....
Not one single word about the constant theft of intellectual property.
This.

so you’re telling me I can get a smartwatch for only $10???
Yep a knock-off Apple watch , it resembles the apple watch quite a lot but doesn't have any of the features of the real apple watch.
cheaper actually. and the heart rate , blood oxygen and step counts readings are usefully accurate . The ~$20 ones have good battery life. $25 ones may have "Alexa" voice command function through the phone's bluetooth.
Lol got ads for Temu while watching this
These items are not cheap in fact, something always pays the price of our want for cheap plastic rubbish and it’s generally the environment, it makes me sad 💀
Environment and poor labor working on dirt cheap minimum wage
They make money from $10 watches because that's what they all those watches Apple Samsung really cost
TEMU is a chinese gov project and company not created to make profit and the losses are paid by the gov. its a project. similar projects by the chinese gov companies are running in south africa as well, with the goal to undermine local, regional african businesses and with success which means many shopowners went bancrupted. its instabilizing local companies. and china attacks now western world, europe and usa as well with same goal, to instabilize economy.
its not bargain, you pay with instabilizing and bancruptcy of own economy. temu was located in china but when too many people saw through, they located cooperation in usa as well. its the chinese project to attack western countries and exploiting africa in the end. in short temu doesnt make profit but want to profit in the long by the bancruptcy of western countries.
Honestly the squeaky voice is extremely annoying, but I like the report.
My ears were bleeding 2 min
Why not say that more than 70% on products on Amazon come from China?
Temu from app point of view...is aliexpress rebranded.
today on hoarders:
I bought $200 worth in 2023. I think my purchase from Temu will be around $60 in 2024.
Temu returns policy is excellent for now.
Without talking about Xinjiang, those scholars don't know how to talk about a Chinese firm. LOL
Thats crazy - Doing the right thing. They are doing the right thing, they are following the law and shipping straight to households. Like Trump said, if you don't like that I don't pay taxes - change the law.
