      Also, Canadian citizens should start behaving more like responsible adults (the adults anyway), and stop expecting things to be spoon-fed to us all the time. There is a level of personal accountability that isn't being reached around here!

Or do you think our government controls the lottery to literally LIE and STEAL? Either way, my advice, DONT play the lottery. Learn how to play blackjack if you want any hopes of winning regularly.

    I have always read ingredients on labels. It's also a reason I do not like going to restaurants. You have no idea how much sugar they are adding to sauces, dips, aioli to make it taste great.

      Yhh depends on which type of restaurant. If it's a fine dining restaurant, people simply looking for a meal for dinner, or restaurant serving higher class citizens and known for their sublime dishes.... then the last thing on their mind is considering amount of sugars and fats being used to prepare dishes. Certainly not fast food restaurants, they depend on artificial ingredients to make their famous meals.
      If you want to dine at restaurants that considering the ingredients used in preparing meals, then you need to find niche options,

      @@sharinaross1865 stick to as simple of meal as possible. For example, a burger or steak.
      These meals tend to be less saucey and have a lower chance of being sweetened unknowingly.
      The fancier the meal is, you can assume they've added "special" stuff to enrich the flavor - salt or sugar.
      Not saying every restaurant does this, but there is a high chance.

      @@johnnybyup for a number of years I would dine alone and date myself. Which I really like. That lull between lunch and dinner is a great experience for myself.

    there ultimately is no short cuts to proper nutrition. We just have to accept that we will need to put more effort into eating if we want to be healthy. Eat whole foods and combine foods yourself made at home.

      EXACTLY! Fresh fruits and vegetables, chicken, eggs etc. NOT PROCESSED TRASH! In the summer we grow a vegetable garden, we have fruit trees, backyard chickens for eggs, etc. All about choices!

      My sentiment exactly! At the end where the guy says, they should make it easier to recognize what the healthy options are, it just makes me shake my head. We do have access to information that let's us know what the healthy options are, but the marketing that we are bombarded with on a daily basis is speaking against all of it, and trying to convince people that there is a short-cut, when there really isn't!

    1. Look ONLY at the ingredients list and the table at the back. The front is exactly what it spells... A FRONT!
    2. Really? How can Vector put the protein content of a DIFFERENT PRODUCT in the packaging? How is this legal? So I can sell you a bag of white sugar, write "50g of protein in every serving", then, in small lettering, at the back, write "when adding 2 servings of protein powder to 1 tsp of sugar"?

    It ends with the HS student saying 'I'm a high school student, not a food scientist.' The fact that this student had to think about that is disturbing. That's exactly where Big Food wins the battle.

    I recently picked up a veggie drink about the size of my hand and it had 53grams of sugar. That's like 2 chocolate bars !!

    Any one whose surprised should do a better job when they shop. You can't get away from sugar. Sugar is almost in everything I'm not surprised one bit by the deceptive labels.

    Can we start with the retail stores??? Whole Foods for example likes to say they will only carry this or that kind of product because of where it's sourced, how it's made, what's in it etc. Other retailers need to do the same and agree not to sell poison.

    Can you do an investigation on over priced produce and what happens when it sits there and starts rotting and going bad where does it go?garbage?and if so why wouldn't they sell it for less and it's a win win for the buyer and seller?

    Not gonna lie, the best part of eating more fibre is the gas. Remember those ads in the back of comic books: "Amaze and amuse your friends?" My toots amaze those in my vacinity and they amuse (me) as well.

      Precisely! The companies that responded weren't wrong when they said they were following Health Canada's guidelines/rules. The problem is that people don't bother to read labels, don't understand what the labels mean and/or are buying too many products that require a label at all (ie not whole or minimally processed foods).

    The Bolthouse Farms is tasty and will hydrate you to keep you 'regular'. I'm sure you could drink more of this than plain water at one time. There must be vitamin C in it! Of course if it's a lot more expensive than water and water is just as good drink water. If you need calories you need more than water and if you need vitamins there must be added vitamins in the product.

      @PunkPineapple Yes it does, and NOT slightly. There's no way they can get the drink that sweet just from fruit, it's no different than drinking any sugary drink except a bit of vitamins, minerals which are negated by all that sugar and much more expensive.

    The longer the ingredient list is, the worse it is. Pretty much any processed and ultra-processed foods. Eat the real thing if you want the benefits.

    Remember, minerals are not sensitive to heat so the minerals in the fruit can still be in that fruit juice. It probably has antioxidants, etc. Is it as good as fresh fruit? I don't think so. Is it healthy, besides the high sugar content? Yes it is. No, I don't work for any of those companies. I just know a lot about nutrition and science. These television shows like to create shock so they push the truth somewhat to meet their nerratives, just like the main-stream media.

    No: people need to educate themselves.
    Who still believe that processed foods are healthy anyway? Anything with sugar and added fruits and veggies are a snack. People like to fool themselves: eat the damn natural fruits and veggies and an occasional snack as a treat! But who wants to change habits? It,s good for Marketplace, they can keep doing programs like these with different products every year. The lousy labels series will go far.

      Money over health. They found a loophole in the system, which includes. ...stating it was based on relying on data from a trusted scientific and market research organizations. And put the blame on that.
      As a result trading standards department will give maximum sanction.. which is " please recall all your products, and please don't do it again".

    Meals on ,Wheels for elderly advertised as hand prepared in local kitchen is just reheated commercial slop. I longed for a sweet potato, spinach, orange. Your body knows. I got anorexic instead of healthy food

      A service for home bound srs who get one meal M-F delivered by volunteers
      Volunteers are great but good is inedible for the most part. Think of prison food. Never anything g
      Homemade pr fresh so you do long for a salad apple recognizable protein etc
      Even the milk smelled bad
