not only that you're more than likely NOT to get what you ordered or even get something that's dangerous. couple of years ago I ordered a couple of guitar repair tools there. 1 showed up ok but the other was what turned out to be described as a "child's toy" which was an small n very old medicine bottle filled with sand as a "baby rattle" but it was so small a baby would've easily swollowed n choked on it.
why would they expect real stuff coming from those cheap sites, if you want something get it straight from the company.. goofs

Even cheap Jinhao fountain pens sometimes get counterfeited.
Ignorant buyer, you get top brands selling directly to the end users here at a much lower price because of overheads. uGreen is a perfect example of this! Quality cables, electronics that is also found on Amazon under FBA.

My friend gave me Mach 3 razors off AliExpress and every cartridge the blades were as dull as a butter knife. I fired the whole package in the garbage.

I have used Gillette Mach 3 razors for many years and still do to this day but I buy them at Walmart and have never had a problem. The ones off AliExpress the printing and packaging looked the same and the cartridges looked identical. I couldn't tell a difference at all until I took that first stroke across my face and all it did was pull the hair terribly. I just looked at the cartridge like what is going on? I told my friend no more razors for me off AliExpress, I rather pay more and buy from a reputable source that sells GENUINE Mach 3 razors. My friend has ordered all kinds of junk off that site like cheap Chinese fishing gear. He bought fishing reels and lures that were just garbage.

Not mentioning if it was sold and shipped by Walmart and amazon makes a big difference. Obviously 3rd party sellers have the biggest risk of fakes.
Amazon has been known to mix third party inventory in with their own at their warehouses for more convenient storage/shipping. Realized a year later that Amazon sent me a counterfeit high capacity micro sd card, which I paid 75 CAD for.
So you need to be careful even buying shipped and sold by amazon products.

Yeah, when they listed off all the retailers I'm immediately like "yeah... That's where you buy fakes alright" and headed for the comments. I think Amazon's problem with this is the biggest issue since the site is so full of dodgy products but has become the go-to place for so much shopping. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find tons of fulfilled-by-Amazon stuff, Amazon's pick, etc that is counterfeit but I'm not as sure that would be the case for someplace like Walmart.

Also, they didn't mention 4 / 5 of their alleged retailers for makeup toxicity. This is a serious concern but they only mentioned AliBaba. I buy makeup at Walmart and need to know if I should be concerned. Also, did they buy from Amazon and Walmart directly or from 3rd party retailers? More info and less scare tactics.
I'm an US viewer, and I agree. Some small amount of dramatization is ok, but this episode had me wondering what was going on as it was a bit "all over the place." I watch this channel because I like the typical facts and to the point nature of it, and a lot of this stuff is valid info no matter where you live, although certain governing laws will be different.

The segment was a little misleading, it should have been disclosed they were buying from a third party seller on Walmart and Amazon. Nothing was mentioned about buying from third party sellers until closing part. Kind of damaging to Amazon and Walmart by not clearly stating if they were buying from a third party or sold by Amazon or Walmart.

Amazon Marketplace (third-party sellers) sells more goods than Amazon itself. As eBay already learned, selling platforms can be held liable for dangerous and illegal goods sold by third party sellers on those platforms.

A common practice is for the Chinese manufacturers to produce one for their client (Gucci, Coach, Nike, etc.) and also another to sell on the black market (black market often means "legitimate" retailers like big online companies and brick and mortar stores in Chinese shopping malls). That's why "counterfeits" are so good when people buy them in China, because they're often not really counterfeits but a side business for manufacturers who make the real thing. Of course, the real brands don't see a penny of revenue from these sales.

Honestly only a small fraction of brand names even give a crap about quality anymore.
It’s pure marketing most the time. $100 for a dressing shirt that’s cotton not silk is just rip off. $200 for a ‘vegan leather’ handbag is even worse.

I had that kind of experience with a guitar amp. A Fender Mustang V, still under warranty with a defect. I contacted them after spending days navigating through broken links, outdated contact info etc on their website. Another week of back n forth hearing excuse after excuse only to be told to "F**K off and buy a new amp". I finally did get the info I needed to repair the problem from a music store in toronto (a very honest place btw) that wasn't even a Fender service center who provided a link to schematics on Fenders own website no less. Do you think Fender bothered to mention this at any point? hell no. Not only did they use shoddy substandard parts on a very expensive amp they couldn't even bother to make it right. But they were sure demanding that I come back n buy more from them.
Worst ones I've seen are shoe companies. Nikes are no better than the cheap alternative brands. Nearly all high end clothing companies are guilty of this though
If you want to buy a sports jersey online, buy it directly from the sport's league (MLB ⚾️ / NBA 🏀 / NHL 🏒) The prices are higher but you know you are getting the real thing. 😃👍🏽
This was about the most shoddy reporting I have seen in a long time. Sensationalist, little substance, leaving out vital facts (like the fact that you bought from third party markets on Walmart and Amazon) for effect. Yeah yeah you said so at the end. That kind of information should be UP FRONT. Maybe you should do a crackdown on BS "reporters" that have NO business reporting on anything at all.

C'mon, if it's on Wish or AliExpress, you've got to KNOW that it's counterfeit.
The stores where honest .if you want counterfeit shoes or clothes it on you.
Counterfeits are bad, an can even be dangerous, sure.
My problem with this however is with things like having someone replace your screen on a phone, companies like Apple don't sell them to local repair shops, leaving them with the only alternative: the Chinese market... often even from the same factories that produce Apple's original screens.
These are however labeled as counterfeits and ceased by customs.
Leaving the customer with the only option being Apple themselves, which has a horrible reputation when it comes to repair.
CBC did a news piece on this themselves where Apple charged them 1200$ for what ended up being a bent pin, which could either be bent back, or have the cable replaced for around 100$.
Which honestly gets to the roots of the problem, counterfeits and piracy are not caused by people unwilling to buy the real deal, but when the premium that these companies charge is so ridiculous, and some times so hard to access, that most people just go with the alternative.
Another problem here is how these items are often also marketed as a status symbol, authentic high end brands shows the world how well you are doing in life, and without them you are sooo basic...
Yet more issues arrive when exclusivity enters the scene, take those jerseys, if any local tailor could make them and sell them, even if under licence, no one would know the difference between a Nike jersey and a local tailor's jersey.
The sports teams would still get their cut, fans could show support for their teams without going broke, there could be so much more variety in what is worn at these events.
But it has to come from big clothing companies, which, let's be honest here, are manufactured anywhere between China and India for minimum wage, terrible working conditions and questionable quality control. (though nowhere near as bad as counterfeits.
But these companies are often the cause of these counterfeits, and claiming to be the victims of it, blaming consumers for not buying their over priced products and that the customer is putting themselves at risk, denying all responsibility for their role in all of this.
Again, counterfeits are bad, and can be dangerous.

I purchased 10 neckties at a dollar store. Each had a store brand labels, but in a cheep plastic wrap. Best knock off product ever purchased.
This report would have been much better if Marketplace had received genuine items from the manufacturers for a side-by-side comparison, the ask the judges, "can you tell which one is real?". To give a judge an item and say, "We got this on Aliexpress" is going to taint the judges.
I have to say, I know amazon sells counterfeits, but I’m still really surprised at the rate in which the products you bought from them were counterfeit. Definitely makes you think twice about shopping on amazon!
I bought a book once from Amazon that was counterfeit. Pixelated printing, larger than original. And it was SOLD BY AMAZON. Returned for a refund + bought from the publisher's recommended book store.

Makes me glad our shipments of purses came with several security features to ensure they were legit and I kept an eye on the products returned to make sure we didn't get something faked.

I bought two expensive screwdrivers on Amazon a few months ago. A couple of weeks ago they sent a full refund for both tools, citing the potential that they were not genuine. Kudos Amazon!

CBC, there should be more tech-savvy reporters on stories like this, who can communicate the technical specifics so that viewers are able to understand what is going on. We can't be sure if they were talking about Amazon selling counterfeits themselves, or 3rd-party sellers selling counterfeits on Amazon's platform.
I'v ordered from Wish recently. Didn't get the package yet. It was some cosmetic and some underwear but non of those were well known brands and all said from China so it was ordered with my knowledge where all those coming from.

How likely do we see this counterfeit? For example, if it is from Amazon, are these counterfeits from Amazon's countless 3rd party sellers or straight from Amazon's warehouse?
Some of this was interesting, but I hated all the fluff and most of the music!
When it debuted, "Marketplace" was commercial free, to avoid any suspicion of bias. About 20 years ago, it was radically changed, and became mostly sizzle with only a tiny bit of substance, and it started allowing commercials.
Differences in packaging is not surprising because items are often subcontracted to various factories so there are often variences in the packaging (i.e. T-FAL).
I thought this would be a legitimate investigation into fulfillment centers like Amazon and why the company doesn't have a QC inspection/validation process in place for their FBA/Drop shipping.
I guess Sephora, TheBay, MAC, BestBuy, CanadianTire, HomeDepot, Saks, Holts, Nordstrom, etc etc don't sell any of these items anymore and I need to resort to unofficial eCommerce websites.
I bought a book on Amazon that was counterfeit. And it was sold by Amazon, not a third party. Amazon doesn't care.

I recently bought a TV series on Amazon. I had to return it because there were scratches on the discs and stains. My player was skipping and freezing when I watched the show. This product was on DVD.

That’s why I always buy my clothes front the store website or in person.
I think the rule of thumb is:
If you care about if the product is legitimate and if you can, walk to any well known retail store (Walmart, Canadian Tire, Shoppers, Costco, etc). If the product is online only, order them directly from the brand's manufacturer.

If I buy anything expensive, I generally go direct to the manufacturer, such as Mont Blanc for my refills instead of Amazon.

Counterfeit crackdown: Buys cheap straight outta Ross/Marshall’s Jordans that would never get faked....🙄. And idk about Raptors jerseys but some new Nike authentics do have mesh numbers (I have a $400 Nike Jordan Icon jersey that does). Not saying the Lowry jersey was real-I’m sure it wasn’t-but that’s not necessarily a good indicator.

I've bought Nike golf polo's off amazon, and right after taking it out of the plastic packaging I knew they were knock-offs. I go straight to the manufacturer now instead of Amazon. A lot of the times you can actually get it cheaper from the manufacturer instead.

When buying online, you should only buy generic items like say stationary or plastic containers (to keep soap, shampoo), or maybe organizational items. Many online sellers don't titled their merchandise by their brand but by what kind of item it is. Otherwise, just take note of the materials which are often listed. Oh yes, some Chinese sellers do put up pictures of their certificates like their license and safety control, so you might want to look closer at those pictures.
Dam......this is an example of why it's better to go to inside the stores...not just that keep up with the business stores.not ai.

as far as the TFal pots, this could very well be differences in location/country of manufacture, and both are real. I see this in many products, and anyone who owns or buys things that have been around a very long time, or have some collectable nature has seen this. Sometimes a company/brand is bought out and manufacturing is changed, leaving MANY versions, some are better or more desireable than others, but ALL are real.
This is why I never buy on the second hand market from places like amazon or walmart. Before I buy anything from them, I always make sure that they are the vendor, not just the middle man.
Yhhh, usually, Amazon is just the logistics provider. Meaning, you can buy something from Amazon website sold by a brand , and Amazon simply takes care of the shipping and delivery side of the transaction. 🚩
