So my question is exactly how much of this "legitimate" educational BS is actually required to do said job? If these people are capable of attaining and consistently performing on a level that's acceptable, then it exposes the fact that it's not about"education", and merely about class separation and the acquisition of money only.. No wonder I didn't learn anything from his class and he didn't know what he was taking about. He pretty much taught the very basics of using computer applications and using Microsoft Office applications. I barely passed his class with no learning outcome. All his tests and final exam did not relate to what he taught, I was lost on how to do things cause he didn't teach anything. The material on homework, assignments, test and exam were hard to do. I was expecting that this course will be more in depth and will be learning something but didn't learning anything. My friends who took his class and all other students who took his class said the same thing about what they've learned, nothing! I really wasn't expecting this from my college. @Ricardo Santos No, Pyschoanalysis is considered a pseudo-science. Pyschology is a wide scientific field with a lot of schools of thought, being structuralism and functionalism the ones which attains more to the scientific method.
I had this teacher at Seneca. I was also thinking If could get my money back. I had him twice for computer courses. He was an ok teacher. Those heavily struggling with the course did seem to find it hard to get help from him. IMO he was organized and gave specific instructions for everything. Due to being a bit on the serious side, I guess students caught a bad vibe from him and focused on all the bad things. I thought he was good and accommodating. He gave lots of bonuses and chances to earn more marks than normal. However I am deeply disappointed and insulted that he used false credentials to teach. Even if his degree was not a factor in the hiring decision. If he doesn't get fired. I may not stay with Seneca. As an institution that teaches the principles of business ethics, keeping this professor would be a serious insult to every student who has rightfully earned their degree and the teachers who worked their asses off to get their job. There are teachers of every corner of the world and yet they still managed to get a job without false credentials, or ... did they...There shouldn't be any tolerance.
Thanks for watching the story. We're interested in learning more about your past experience. Could you email marketplace@cbc.ca and one of our producers will get in touch with you.
Things such as being organized and providing specific instructions to students are pretty bare minimum traits for a teacher to have. When I read that a teacher with dubious credentials in a post secondary institution is overly lenient giving "lots of bonuses and chances to earn more marks than normal", it makes me wonder if its just a lowkey way to keep students' mouths shut. Students will always be better than any school's hiring dep. at picking up when something is not right with a teacher since they are the ones spending their days trying to learn from him and scrutinizing the material he is trying to teach. So when I read that he was really lenient with marks it seems like its just a way of keep students happy and shutting down anyone digging too deep. After all, a salty student doing poorly in a class is much more likely to stir up trouble for him than a student that feels grateful to him for giving them a high mark.
Ruo students that aced his courses don't have much to say of course, why take back a good mark? ... I received a great mark from him because I was interested in bus. computer applications before taking the class and I applied myself. The bonuses were part of the assignment, it was there in case you wanted to figure it out and they were difficult, so only those really interested in the material got them. He still gave zero to late assignments and he didn't just give away unearned marks. Occasionally I encountered students who complained as to how hard and confusing these computer classes were no matter what prof. In the end it is the student's responsibility to earn their mark, that's true. I would guess in any post secondary there are mark lenient profs. It just this fraudulent behaviour throws the entire validity of the school's faculty into question, which can affect the image of the school's effectiveness to students' prospective employers should marketplace blow this case up even further. That's what seems unfair. Do you think the school should make a statement?
exactly sir. Students are constantly pushed to get higher marks, whether they learn or not is not as much of a concern with many of the students. Just like the teacher, it is more about what you have on paper. So giving them a higher mark just means they won't complain as much about not learning anything, since now atleast they got the mark to "pretend they did learn it". the system has inherent flaws.
two of these people had gone to real universities before moving here. maybe it needs to be easier for immigrants to have their degrees actually taken seriously? i know two people who had masters degrees from the soviet union who were forced to start over and not allowed to work in their field, could that be part of the problem?
@banana aya playa Why not offer to challenge the course by doing final exams, thesis, etc. to see how well somebody is educated in a certain subject? If they can do well in everything they would need to finish the course, why make them do it all over again?
I was going to say the same. Give more opportunities for someone to "test" their skills against the university's standards, and if they pass, they get credit. As far as I know, there isn't a lot of opportunity for people to do this in graduate degrees. For some things, like medicine, it makes sense to have them retake courses. As you want to make sure that the person understands the needs of people in that new region. But things like computer science or math don't change country to country.
Maybe that's something those people should research about potential destination countries before making such an important decision as immigrating to one of those countries. Of course it is possible they may be refugees, or seeking political asylum or whatever else, but we can't make laws based on exceptions. So, would you really want someone dumb enough to not check ahead to be designing buildings or doing open heart surgery or whatever else their supposed specialty is.
Use their degrees from their home countries. Interesting story. I have friends that work in oil & gas in fort McMurray. They are all electricians. Around 95% of these immigrants with journeyman tickets are bogus and should never ever use their trades tickets. 2nd year electricians know more than these so called journeyman. Those people working at Tim Hortons that have extra degrees from their native country. But can't make a double double coffee. Yeah I believe they are qualified. That was sarcasm btw
If you get a dumb degree like liberal arts, gender studies and so on yes but that's your own dumb fault. You should have chosen to study for something that can actually help you get a job
depends on the degree....you cannot say that about medical or nursing degrees, law ect. The are tested by outside sources. Same with electricians and other trades. Yes, careers are backed by useless diplomas.
Did this man just said “ inequality is what brings strength?” Whew chile Also I slaved over my Bachelor degree I would never forget where I got it from!

@@MikeTheGamer77 You think employers take all 20 applicants seriously? Some will be called for an interview, then they narrow down which one they figure would best suit their workplace. That's when they *should* start vetting people. Apparently many places don't even bother doing that, but, nevertheless, saying it's not worth the time is simply ridiculous.

People argue that an Arts degree is a purchased degree but I don't think that's a fair statement either. No need to be jealous love. In this day and age, people without degrees often earn more than those with one.
Some people do come from other countries with amazing education but have to get a job as a janitor because the degrees aren't accepted here. I don't mind if they use stuff like almeda just to bypass a barrier in order to use their knowledge and credentials. However it is a concern when people like the counselor use it. Actually, a printed 'diploma' is worthless. Any employer doing actual vetting will demand a TRANSCRIPT directly from the accredited institution.
Russ G Companies that do "real" vetting will just outsource the job to a clearinghouse that checks the transcripts and screens out universities without regional accreditation.
Most master’s and doctor’s except MBA all have to publish a thesis or dissertation to graduate, ask them for one.
best thing is to google map search the physical campus.
Russ G actually the real way to check if a person is legit is if he/she knows their field.

I attend Seneca College (same campus which the had the interview with the professor) and the professor from Seneca College, Dubravko Zgrablic, was my professor for my Computer Application course.

This has been very elucidating since I've been looking for serious online master schools for quite a while. Thanks Marketplace.

two of these people had gone to real universities before moving here. maybe it needs to be easier for immigrants to have their degrees actually taken seriously? i know two people who had masters degrees from the soviet union who were forced to start over and not allowed to work in their field, could that be part of the problem?
@banana aya playa Why not offer to challenge the course by doing final exams, thesis, etc. to see how well somebody is educated in a certain subject?
If they can do well in everything they would need to finish the course, why make them do it all over again?
@@CigsInABlanket good idea

No, most places don't. Its not worth the time if you have 20 applicants for the same opportunity, which happens a lot more than you might think.
