It'd be great to have a video that shows how the 'talent' can make things easier for the editor. Pausing at appropriate moments where a cut might need to be made, etc. Also, tips for the presenter/talent in terms of speaking (intonation, etc.) would be fantastic!

My school counselor in 7th grade had my parents and I sit down to teach me the meaning of that word and why it will hold me back if I don't deal with it early, to get out of the habit...still haven't quite done that, but I'll get to it sometime, I'm sure

Great tips in this video. Choosing the wrong music is very common because the RUclipsr only uploads music that makes THEM happy. How many times have we seen videos with heavy metal playing? Heavy Metal is cool at a concert but is horrendous for pretty much all videos ever.
Well i started a few years back from the complete zero to edit my wife´s cooking channel and i can tell you it was a complete nightmare... but over time we progressed a lot, after nearly 200 videos i believe the edits got much much better then they were in the beginning, the CTR is around is 20% and i believe there we nailed it. The watch time also increased a lot. So we are on the right foot. But its quite challenging and a good video editing normally takes a lot of time, at least for me. In cooking we use a lot of b-roll , a-roll and lot of pictures during all the process so its quite demanding, but in the end is a great experience. My tip is to continue to have consistency, dont give up and create your own small and achievable milestones, thats the way to accomplish it.

Thanks guys for this beautiful piece. I am still new in the youtube content creation space. Most of the videos I created the sound is okay on my laptop and once I upload to RUclips people complain that the sound is skewed and very low. I am not sure what I am doing wrong and how I can fix this. I use capcut for editing and camera Sony ZV-E10 and Boya microphone. Also noticed the sound is much better when i use my lapel mic
Awesome video as always. I am small RUclipsr, and I think that for small channels the most important thing is to get good presence from the beginning. If you are not popular, people won't care even if you have the best videos and the best content on platform. I am not beginner anymore, but I definitely know how hard it can be (and honestly if I didn't use a lot of Famester, I would have quit a long time ago. It made everything much easier for me, especially getting to 1000 subs and view hours).

Absolutely loved this video! I recently edited my first two person podcast and realised I couldn't really get the best from Premiere Pro and AutoPod because both mics picked up the audio from the other person. After stacks of research I found out that AutoPod works on the 'absence' of audio and will select the camera view based on the audio. So when both mics picked up the echo from the other person, I could not edit it and the audio (and therefore whole recording) was wasted. How do you overcome this sitting so close to the other person in a podcast / video like you both have done here? And are there any tricks in editing that you can share specific to Premiere Pro and AutoPod?

Not editing enough was exactly my issue. cutting even more sections after going back to watch later helped me tremendously in my watch and retention time. Attention spans are short. You need to keep things moving fast and to the WHY audience is watching.
Yea im still a super small creator but the greatest thing I've learned so far is, not everything you film has to go in the video. I used to have videos that were like 20 mins long but have cut that in half and more and found that I get more views, more retention, etc.

I would LOVE to learn more about AE but the learning curve just seems too steep (not to mention it's a very robust memory-hogging program). I used to export my videos out of PP and into AE to add all the cool text to the screen. But as soon as PP introduced mogrts it allowed me to do many of the things I used to do in AE in PP. I always love the Think Media videos b/c you learn so much about RUclips, creating videos, editing videos, sound, lighting, and of course gear reviews. It is my ONE-STOP shop for learning new techniques or about new gear (that I NEED). LOL Keep up the great work!!!
Hi, you guys talk about different niche ( like cooking, tech etc.) but I would love to know how a DIY channel should make their hooks? I always show a finished product e.g a DIY home decor item and try to capture the attention but still I don't get good views so I would love to know your expert opinion on it
Great suggestion! It's important to note that editing can help your video, but good editing doesn't guarantee views. Ultimately people have to click on your video, so having an intriguing idea, paired with title and thumbnail, editing, will set your up for the best chance to get views, but people will have to click and watch before views come. Hope this helps!
I absolutely love Think Media content. But can you include niche that are majorly talking head videos as examples for the advice? Like, for Mistake 1, the examples that you give are cooking channels or tech channels that have a physical product that they can show as B-Roll. Even Think Media for that matter has RUclips analytics to show as B-Roll. Similarly dog channels have dogs. But what about channels like myself, who talk about personal growth and self improvement? We don't have a product or a physical thing to show as the result in B-Roll. Like my latest video is about how to overcome loneliness, what can I show in the intro to make it more interesting apart from a B-Roll of me looking sad or looking happy to show that I overcame loneliness? In a nutshell, I would be grateful if you could include self improvement channels as examples for the advices that you give.
Thanks! In short, you could use stock footage or you could film b-roll of yourself. I think of Ali Abdaal's channel where he shows him at work on his computer or reading the book he's talking about in the video. It does take some effort to think of what is the best way to convey it visually.
Some good advice. I actually BookMarked this for my upcoming YT Ch. The video made me think (no pun intended) about how I watched even this video. I don't fall into the young viewer demographic range, but I tend to watch many educational videos on a faster playback speed. In the case of this video, playback was at 1.5x. Any thoughts? Plus, I'm curious why Podcast / Interview videos do the Tennis Match / back and forth shots so much? Wouldn't it be better to pull back on the camera and show both people, one talking, and the other reacting? When I think of the great TV reporters / interviewers like Barbara Walters or Dan Rathers, they ask their question, but then the camera mostly stays on the person being interviewed. Anyway, good video, maybe me think more about how I want to shoot my videos.
Good observation! It is somewhat up to preference. I look at it is, if I were listening to the conversation in real life, when would I turn to look at the other person? I also find for this angle the closeups are a bit more engaging than the wide angle. I use the wide angle, when changing topic or to see the action of both like you mentioned. In the end, there is no strict rule for editing podcasts like this, but I hope the insights were helpful!
after two years of editing and posting on RUclips, I have realized that the hook is just fake. My average view duration for two-minute videos also has more than 80% retention but the videos do not go viral. The best practice is to find the topic people are searching for. My topics are too specific so less audience is watching them. If you make videos with broader topics then you will probably go viral. If you fix common problems then no matter if you have a hook or not! people will definitely watch your video. My click-through rate is great, watch time is sometimes 106% instead of 10-20, but the videos do not go viral due to my topic selection. So guys! select a topic that people are searching on the internet and the traffic is also high for those keywords in your title and description. Don't make videos that people aren't looking for. This is my experience.
@@dr.shubham_gabhane i don’t normally create long videos coz my topics can be covered between 3-6 minutes. I didn’t say about all of my videos. I have 23 minutes tutorials too. So it’s a mix record ! Probably not just retention. CTR is good. Watch time is good. Returning viewers are there. People have saved my videos in watch later and other playlists. If i type my name on google and can see many websites have embedded my videos. So, probably it’s all about the topic selection instead of just watch time and hooks.
What do you mean by "your hook is just fake"? Hooks are used to preview what's in the video. Unless you're lying about what's in your video in the intro, it's supposed to set people up to be excited for the video
I love Think Media but one thing I've noticed is that most of their tips are catered to talking head videos. I'd like to hear how these tips apply to vlog style videos, which are much less scripted.
When I see a video that doesn't show the finished product at the start, I skip to the end to see it. Why would I want to watch something that I have no idea what it is or if I would like it at the end. 'made in poland' does this and it really bugs me. But he has got more subscribers than me so I can't argue with that 😅
Great video and content! Feedback as a viewer. Sometimes you cut the guest off to finish his sentences or give input when I think it would be better to let them finish their perspective.
By editing mistakes, this channel means create over produced content and add basically no value to the viewer. It's kind of baffling that this channel has over 2 million subs because the content isn't very good in my opinion.
Mostly a very helpful video, but it seems like you didn't completely follow your own advice! Maybe you had a preconception that you needed "10" mistakes? At any rate, it could easily have been "8 Editing Mistakes" by merging 6, 7, and 8 (all about audio) into one. Since 6 and 7 were so short, this would have also improved the pacing. Maybe an additional mistake to avoid would be "don't enslave yourself to the draft video title". Anyway, thanks. Still very helpful. 🙂
Good observation! For this conversational format the conversation provided the pacing of the video, allowing for the flexibility to dig deeper. For talking head videos I still think the rule is useful, but it doesn't have the be concrete. It's good to know when to follow the rules and when to break them!
Very first point is my biggest gripe on videos I watch. In the intro, I really do not like when the creator is holding or has the camera on themselves and proceed to talk about what they are going to do and take too long to get to the meat of the video. I call it too much blah blah. I despise unboxing videos. Creators need to learn how to do b roll and voice-over. Instead of showing the video with talking a bunch of blah blah, roll the video on what the content is supposed to be and then do a voice-over with your blah blah.
As a viewer there is nothing more annoying than some yputuber w 20k followers intros like a damn MTV music video all fluff loud club music and little substance

When I joined lol, however our podcast team uses Premiere Pro. But basically any video edited in the past year was done by me in Resolve

Your watch time is not that great. RUclips prefers watch time over retention percent. 30% for 15 min video is better than 80% for 3 min video.

By editing mistakes, this channel means create over produced content and add basically no value to the viewer. It's kind of baffling that this channel has over 2 million subs because the content isn't very good in my opinion.

Mostly a very helpful video, but it seems like you didn't completely follow your own advice! Maybe you had a preconception that you needed "10" mistakes? At any rate, it could easily have been "8 Editing Mistakes" by merging 6, 7, and 8 (all about audio) into one. Since 6 and 7 were so short, this would have also improved the pacing. Maybe an additional mistake to avoid would be "don't enslave yourself to the draft video title".

Good observation! For this conversational format the conversation provided the pacing of the video, allowing for the flexibility to dig deeper. For talking head videos I still think the rule is useful, but it doesn't have the be concrete. It's good to know when to follow the rules and when to break them!

Very first point is my biggest gripe on videos I watch.
In the intro, I really do not like when the creator is holding or has the camera on themselves and proceed to talk about what they are going to do and take too long to get to the meat of the video.
I call it too much blah blah.
I despise unboxing videos. Creators need to learn how to do b roll and voice-over.
Instead of showing the video with talking a bunch of blah blah, roll the video on what the content is supposed to be and then do a voice-over with your blah blah.
I was with you all the way until you said " don't worry about every word in closed captioning." As a deaf person that hurt.
