Did it for 200k and even less after taxesz but still for 3 months for 3 months of work it's still alot of money plus loosing weight is dead easy but putting it back must be a nightmare.
Way to throw his acting talent out of the window. His acting was brilliant and weight loss just added to that brilliance. So don’t say money was the only motivation for him.
I am impressed by his will power....and it is a courageous move since his image is that of a hunk and playboy....maybe this will open up more serious acting roles for him.
that's a BMI of 19,7 (age 45, height 1.82m, weight 65.3), that's not even properly underweight, it's just slightly below normal. people are just not used to normal weight people anymore. everyone is so FAT, that they lost the sense for what is fat.
THANK YOU. This whole obesity praise, and skinny shaming needs to stop. ABC even had a story about a made up disorder called "Orthorexia". Yes, to eat healthy is now considered a disorder. -_-
You kidding? 140 something lbs at 6ft tall is definately underweight for a male, especially with the amount of muscle he previously had. You're delusional.
How can an actor getting ready for a role be causing a bad example to kids? Its for a movie about an aids victim. He's not doing it and promoting it as health kick. If you didn't report it kids wouldn't know anyway
Well look what Tom Hanks went through for most of his roles! I worry about the after effects, its now 2020 and he still looks effected by the Weight loss.. We thank you all for entertaining us but please don"t jeopardize your health for it!
loved the moving movie being someone with hiv my weight was 180lbs and when i was really ill got down to 140ish lbs i'm now at approximately 200lbs and feel great life is great and i'm very happy!
It's way easier for me to put on weight than lose weight. I could lose 10 lbs in a month with focus, sacrifice, dedication and hard work. It's incredibly difficult, but I can do it. I can gain 10 lbs without even batting an eye, it's nothing. In fact if I don't watch my calories it's almost guaranteed that I will gain 10 lbs in a month.
Are you joking? Well, perhaps you are in your 20s or sth, but for me at 49, it is impossible for me to lose weight, i'm 6'4'' and 220lbs and i was about that at age 20 then stopped drinking alcohol and eating meat and went down to 165lbs for the next 15 years or so. I cook all my food, no processed garbage, so compared to people i know, i eat pretty healthy food, but it is so easy to gain and so hard to lose, so reading sth like your comment puts lots of ? up everywhere!
I lost 40lbs in less than a month once. I was around 150. Got down to 115 eating only canned tuna and water and working in the hot sun for 10 hours a day. But then again for a months after I would feel this weird vibration in my heart. Sometimes it felt and sounded like someone sucking the last bit of liquid from a cup with a straw.
Respectfully* .May I ask as to why you did that ? ( Oh, and I know that feeling you described. I have AFib+palpitations. Partially genetics ,the rest- bad habits:/ ) °nice username/handle⚡
@@yelizaveta1278 I was working on a farm for the summer. I wanted to lose weight( not drastically, just get lean) but the effect it had was intense. I literally became super thin and had barely any fat on my body and my jaw line was soo defined. I quit the farm once I reached 115lbs. I regained that weight super fast tho, and even looked swollen afterwards for a couple of months ( like water retention swollen) and now I knoe what those heart vibrations were thanks to you
Setting a bad example for his fans? What the hell are you talking about?? He lost the weight for a MOVIE ROLE. Good lord people are so dumb. Awful reporting.
he's half the man he used to be. in my twenties I weight 298pounds and in five years I'm 165 pounds wet and wearing boots, shocked a lot of friends, but I'm slowly getting back up their to a normal weight, I don't know why I'm posting this.
165 lbs is a great weight, i am 6'4'' and weighed 165 from 20 to 35ish, then gained weight, now around 220 lbs and hate it, eat healthy, work out, cannot lose weight.
It is well known that most people base their diet, exercise and body aspirations on the movie roles of Matthew McConaughey. Anyone who disagrees is simply in denial.
how come whenever someone loses weight its immediately feared that anyone looking up to that person will try and do the same? if someone is that sensitive its not the celebs fault considering many other things could set that person off.
How do these actors look so thin at 140 pounds. Im 140 pounds and still have excess fat, particularly love handles. My goal is to get to 135 but i doubt even then the handles will be gone
Depends on your height for one thing. But also, he was already pretty thin to begin with, probably had muscle than fat at 181lbs, so to go down to 143 is kind of insane.
He water fast we and did a big calorie deficit and probably a dry fast. There is no way he just kept a calorie deficit and hot that thing without any lose skin. He definitely did some dry fasting to not get lose skin.
Im sure he did lose all this weight with so many Drs. and Nutritionist making sure his health was still good!!!! no one wants to die for a movie roll. so ya he lose weight but the smart way.
Tom Hanks, Deniro, Christian Bale and tons if other Actors dropped tons of weight many times. M Mc knows about Nutrition and Exercise. He will b just fine !
he talks about how he had 8 small meals throughout the day (of fish and vegetables) and at first did a lot of cardio but found it made no difference. usually with starvation diets your weight will plummet whether you exercise or not. i guess the point was to keep his metabolism working with several meals throughout the day, but never give enough calories.
Wow the weight loss is outrageous. But you have to understand, Hollywood wants every actor or actress to become this somewhat of a "character". In order to do that they have to do some ridiculous thing such as yo-yo diets to achieve perfection. I guess it comes with the territory to make a great storyline.
I suggest you start playing addicting video games (most players I know lost alotta weight coz they cant find anymore time to eat ;) ) or better yet, live in a veggie farm... That'll work :)
He looks almost as if he has gone through chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. Losing 40 lbs usually does not cause a "wasting" appearance. People are entitled to keep health issues private...I am wondering since he is a role model, perhaps this is a good time for a cautionary message to the public. That is, if he is really sick.
6 ft 181 down to 143. That's so much weight lost he would have had to be insanely fat or an absolute beast bodybuilder to lose just under 40 pounds and not look like a chemotherapy patient. If I lost that much weight I would disappear.
Familiarize yourself with the "weight cutting" process that combat sports athletes go through and you will realize that yes, 40lbs would definitely give you a wasting appearance, because it happens to incredibly muscular professional fighters who lose up to 20-30lbs in a week.
Chadster357 It is NOT mental determination we do not possess..... People forget He (actors) are getting paid Millions of dollars. Wave 9 million in my face and I'll shed 40lbs.
xlerosx I was explaining that losing 40 pounds should cause a wasting appearance. And no, most people do not have what it takes to change their bodies for their own benefit.
Bitch im down 37 since new years Starting weight 215 im fine lol so dramatic il be at 20 percent lossed well before 4 months And im 6 foot tall 215 imagine if I was 240 like he was when he started this
He probably won't live very long ... if he goes back to eating "cheese burgers" and "pizza hut buffet." From CR (calorie restriction) principles as demonstrated for many decades in laboratory animals, if all dietary needs are met, life can actually be greatly extended by maintaining your weight at about 80% of your normal set-point weight (reached if you're able to eat as much as you want), to the equivalent of humans living 120-150 years or more. Check it out. Take care people.
If you want to take a cynical stance then you could say that. But Oscar bait films don't make much at the box office and don't offer big paydays. I believe he did it to portray a man as honestly as possible.
I wasn't really trying to be cynical. I still can't wrap my head around the idea of doing that to your body without a real need. From what I heard he did it rather quickly and had to be monitored by all these docs. I am sure he was advised no to do to the weight loss. And you can't forget the negative message it'll send to those trying to lose weight.
There was a real need. He would have been doing a disservice to Ron Woodroof and his family if he pretended to be an AIDS patient and was like "oh, by the way, I was able to keep all this weight on despite my debilitating illness." People are not stupid. They know the difference between losing weight for a film and losing weight for body image. You wouldn't have this much criticism for an actor who gained weight for a role (Jared Leto, Rob Mcelhenny, etc.).
+tennisdude52278. I'm sorry but I do feel the same way about some one who would go to the opposite extreme. Gaining weight just to portray a character. I'm sure there are ways one could make an actor appear fatter or skinny with make-up, specific lighting, specific clothing, or special affects etc. I just don't think its healthy for one to do that which is my real argument.
I don't think it's healthy to smoke or binge drink. But it's not my place to force people to stop doing those things. There is actually some evidence that extreme caloric restriction can lead to longer lives as long as you still get all your nutrients (there is a whole community of people who restrict themselves to about 1000 calories a day as a lifestyle). If you listen to what he said as his diet, you'll see he was having 5 ounces of fish twice a day and plenty of vegetables. I'm not saying losing all this weight is the healthiest thing in the world. But I think that because he did it with this specific diet and in constant contact with nutritionists it shows he wasn't being reckless. I just don't think people will see what he did and say "I'm going to stop eating."
I’m doing it right now for a role that I’ve written and will shoot later this summer (august/September). I’m not earning a single penny, in fact I’m financing the film. It’s all about discipline.
My coworkers laughed when I told them I would lose weight with "Reborn Lean Max", but then I showed them the results. Go and google "Reborn Lean Max" to see their reaction.
Fuck! Why these journalists gotta make it sound like he's "setting a bad example"? He did this for a MOVIE ROLE.
+dtadeo2006 THANK YOU
Exactly. I fucking hate the media. Yet if someone gets fat for a role, it's cute and empowering.
media is retarded sometimes.
We unfortunately live in a time where weight is a "sensitive" topic and being on the smaller size means you have an issue. Crazy world
Let's be professional and agree with...
Christian bales transformation was more scary.....
Prachi Sharma exactly
Prachi Sharma hi!!
The machinist , yes . But Matthew is equally good as bale , if not better
Jimmy Hordado don't know about that....
But the machinist was a shitty movie, at least Dallas buyers club was good
If they pay me millions to look like a stick, I would do the same thing.
id do it for 500k too
Did it for 200k and even less after taxesz but still for 3 months for 3 months of work it's still alot of money plus loosing weight is dead easy but putting it back must be a nightmare.
Way to throw his acting talent out of the window. His acting was brilliant and weight loss just added to that brilliance. So don’t say money was the only motivation for him.
Health is more important vs ANY money , remember that .
It is still a crazy amount of money to lose weight.
That oscar was well deserved
nothing compared to christian bales transformation in the early 2000's
his sincerity to his role in the movie put him to the oscars honor list.... wow. agree?
I am impressed by his will power....and it is a courageous move since his image is that of a hunk and playboy....maybe this will open up more serious acting roles for him.
***** Agreed.
Interstellar as well, which was amazing
look how far he has come

Yup, my goal weight is way lower than that and I'm not even trying to play a guy with AIDS. I just want to be thin for the NYC industry.
How can an actor getting ready for a role be causing a bad example to kids? Its for a movie about an aids victim. He's not doing it and promoting it as health kick. If you didn't report it kids wouldn't know anyway

Incredible… I have allot of respect for Matt and the way he put himself into this role… Great movie and amazing job on his part… Much respect..
Well look what Tom Hanks went through for most of his roles! I worry about the after effects, its now 2020 and he still looks effected by the Weight loss.. We thank you all for entertaining us but please don"t jeopardize your health for it!
How does he look affected?
He looks much younger. Its really healthier. All people should think about fasting every now and then.
Yuck. I despise American news reporting. Makes me sick to my stomach.
Same

Different

That is a dedicated actor , impressive I wouldn't attempt it .
It was want worth it. He put the weight back on but messed up his skin, and now he looks much older.
You call hard work a bad example?, really?
It's actually harder to put weight on than it is to lose weight. Christian Bale and Tom Hardy are insane in how they go up and down in weight.
It's way easier for me to put on weight than lose weight. I could lose 10 lbs in a month with focus, sacrifice, dedication and hard work. It's incredibly difficult, but I can do it. Jesus that doesn’t sound good. Have to do it moderately and gradually mate…
There is also something with mercury posioning and eating too much canned tuna which is worth looking into bud
@@Jerraleon yes I realize that, and that was more than 10 years ago. And it was only for a month.
He’s 5 11 and 3 quarters. Geez, get it right.
he must be getting paid a LOT for this role.. i don't see how anyone can have that kind of determination for a regular pay of acting.

Alright ALRIGHT alright!
I am tired of food, it is just too damn addictive, and most of it has fake stuff in it now that keep us hooked.
Still looking for him to give up how much wine he was drinking.
He could play Nikola Tesla
A skinny Matthew McConaughey looks like a large head on a long neck with arms and feet
+Kim Cornell hhhhh

he's so called weight loss is like brad pitt normal weight in the 90s
Brad Pitt is only like 5'3" so...
maybe just for the role? he's been doing a bunch of light films so maybe he felt to do something different and serious for a change...?
He better not break that diet with a cheeseburger 🍔!!! That’s f-ing dangerous too!!

"twenty percent of body weight over a five or six month period" ? That's freakin healthy. Don't they do that on The Biggest Loser?
Yeah but nothing about how they lose weight on The Biggest Loser is healthy
