I bought one a few months ago and cleared out two drains that have been giving me problems for years. I could get them running but it was never fully opened. I used this and got them both fully clear. Here are a few additional things that I do. First, when doing a tub, I use a shower stool and sit in the tub and do it. Much easier than doing it from the side. Second, I don't close up everything until I'm sure it is all cleared. My tubs all have the stoppers on the overflow so it has to go back in, but I do it without the screws. Third, don't have any girls in the house! Not much I can do about that with twin daughters, except let them get older and move out! Until then it's "daddy, the drain is all clogged again."
I have what is basically a flat zip tie with small teeth cut into it. It's like 2 feet long. I stuff it into the drain to pull out hair clogs in the tub and sink. It works great! That snake would be awesome for deeper clogs further along the pipe. I'm definitely going to look into one of those snakes. Sure hope I don't ever need it!!
You all probably dont care at all but does someone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
Thomas Vaught going down the overflow takes you straight to the trap. If going down the drain you have to make an extra 90 degree bend. Can do it just sometimes the snake wants to come out the overflow.
Also...there's often some drain stop pieces in the drain that block getting the snake through it...Getting one of those "zip ties with teeth" tools to clean out that 8 inches of drain is helpful...then use the overflow with the metal spring snake.
Does that particular auger separate if you feed it out all the way? I've found other augers with people commenting how the wire just comes out and then you have to reassemble the whole thing. But can't find info for this auger in particular.
It will come out if you go the whole way out. I always have a couple inches exposed when snaking. If it comes out you can usually just put it back in the tip pull the trigger and put the drill in reverse. Will retract the snake. Another good way to go is before you ever use it pull out about 23-24 ft and put some tape on your snake or mark it in some way. Then you you know when you are about to run out. I hope this helps.
I want to unclog my shower drain but further up ahead. My shower drain goes 90° after a little while then a drain of a couple of meters above tbe ceiling just going straight forward and then another 90° turn and going down all the way to the sewer. Would it be possible to unclog that with this device? Thanks in advance I liked your video.
This is a small bendy snake. It should do pretty good with with that. My advice to once you reach one of those bends that you try to push it through the 90 by hand instead of with the auto feeder. Does that make sense? That will help with you with not kinking up the snake. What kind of pipe do you have?
Great question. This snake does not hold the cable in and it will actually wind it the whole way out. I would pull it out and put some tape or markings on the cable towards the end so you know when you get close
@@ThatFixItGuy they need to have markers every 12 inches or some kind of indicator gauge or make the housing clear. i used mine the other day, had no idea how far i had the cable or how much was left in the housing.
I totally get it. I usually go tell the cable comes out. Not the best method I know. nicer models will secure the end inside the drum so know it is all the way out without potentially losing the cable
tried this today with no luck. I have the exact same snake. It's weird. this happens like once a year where the shower just does not drain period. My theory is that some non-organic object is causing blockage, like a ball or something.
That Fix It Guy it’s weird. When I backs up like this, both showers fill with standing water. And it just doesn’t seem to drain at all. Not sure what you mean by drain pipe below. In the garage we see the 2 PVC drain pipes coming together and tied into the the old Galvanized line.
@@ThatFixItGuy Another snake job in the morning after putting draino and pouring hot water last night. After pulling the snake out, I heard the pipe unclog itself and it then the water drained at full speed. We have been using the Tub Shroom, so I was pretty bummed about the clog to begin with
I bet right there where the pipe changes to galvanized the is some kind of clogging occuring. Could be when the pvc got attached and they cut the galvy they did not file down the inside edge of the pipe and hair gets caught.
yeah that is a bummer that it has clogged with the tubshroom in there. It has been great for us. Saving loads of hair from going down the drain. that is great that it unclogged itself. I hope you won't have an issue for awhile!
That thing is a piece of junk. The old traditional snake would’ve pulled out clogs of hair. That thing had 1 strain of hair on it lol all it does is puncture a small hole in the clog.
Very good demonstration, I feel like I can do this! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for the tips Brian! Plumbing made easy!
Your welcome! Glad this helped.

Great demonstration, I like it! You are excellent at explaining techniques.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching and I hope we can help again.

I have been using one of those zip tie things I got at the dollar store. They do work good. But I love the little snake! It works great!

Any particular reason for going through the overflow versus straight down the drain?

ok great. There should be no issue with that snake taking a couple 90s in pvc
how can you tell when the end of cable is reached?

How,much did that, snake cost you?
I think was around 35 bucks at Home Depot. Think it has gone up to 40 + since I bought one.

I have that exact tool I’ve used to clear drains but I had no idea the handle could come off. I’ve always cranked by hand 😂
