Your tutorial is very informative... it was GREAT. I am an 83-year old and your technique is highly appreciated. Wish you more success.... stay well and safe.
Thank you, this was very useful. As a now single female, I don’t have a man to help now, so with a very slow draining shower and sink, I wanted to avoid a hefty plumber call out charge. A $3.50 plunger, hot soapy water and after a few minutes of plunging, I now have a free draining sink and shower. Thank you again.
Thanks to this video I was able to fix the completely clogged bathtub drain. I also used this method to clean sinks that were slowly draining, and all without a snake. I used the overflow method, I only sealed it with tape. Bathtub, sinks, and kitchen sink are now working properly, better than ever. Thank you so much for posting this video.
This video made my day, like seriously, thank you so much brother. I dropped like 50 buck in drain openers to no avail. Called my rental company to put the work order in and they did nothing. Landlord, I mean slumlord also useless. Was thinking I was gonna have to move or something. But watched this 6 min video and problem solved. I know everyone else has mentioned it in the comments but the visual for the pipe struct made everything click. Thanks a million again brother.
5 years ago FIVE FREAKING YEARS AGO and you saved me a month of what I struggled with in less than 10 minutes!!! A plunger and a plastic bag was all it took! You my sir are a freaking Saint and a scholar thank you!🙏🏻
UGH this has to be the best video I've seen on how to do this stuff! I've been doin it for my house (grandma/family) since I was 17, now 23 and FINALLY, a video thats concise and has the same drain setup as our house! THANK YOU
I used your third technique at 2:49. You showed me a better way to use the plunger and it worked! And plugging the strainer with the plastic bag instead of a sock helped, too. THANK YOU!
Just tried the plunger and bag method. Just saved myself a couple hundred dollars. I am so grateful right now that I can shower in peace without my bathroo drain taking hours on end to drain
I'm in Texas. My shower stopped up just before everything got bad. Once I had heat & water I augered my tub just like you said. My biggest success after an incredibly trying week. Thank you!!!
Thanks a million for this video; you did an amazing job breaking down what's happening behind the scenes and laying out the solutions in a clear cohesive way. Great video for many young people whose parents didn't (and/or couldn't) teach them these basic life skills.
Thank you!!!! Recently got a new house and the bathtub/shower drain has been giving me nothing but problems. Drain-O did literally nothing, just went and bought a cheap snake and plan to try all your techniques. Appreciate you showing more than 1 way to unclog it! Saving me tons of time, AND MONEY!!!
Thank you so much for showing what the pipes look like!!! You are the only one that did that and it really helped give me a bitter understanding of something I knew NOTHING about!
I wish a saw your video 24 hours earlier. Would have saved me hours and stress on back using a plunger without blocking the overflow!!! This is sooooo key. Once I blocked the over flow with a rag it unclogged in seconds. Thank you for posting this!!!
Find how to remove my drain cover, 4th video watched to find the right method! Great to have various ways to chat the drain in the video. Thanks and God bless you for serving with patience! Jeff Father of seven
I wish I saw your video 24 hours earlier. Would have saved me hours of stress on my back using a plunger without blocking the overflow!!! This is sooooo key. Once i blocked it drain unclogged in seconds. Thank you for posting this!!!
Thank you! Years after you made this video I have just used a hang auger and cleared a completely clogged drain full of dog hair! I am not handy either. I am now getting a strainer. This was a very easy-to-follow video!
Although I rarely comment on RUclips videos, this one was perfect for my needs. I had to use all the techniques but they worked. Thank you very much. I wish you covered my area so could use your services directly.
Awesome tutorial! I feel such agony of defeat when a drain gets backed up - but then once it's cleared out and water flows freely down ... that's the thrill of victory. The pliers are what worked for me this time, but it's good to know that there are other methods in case that one doesn't work next time. Thanks for helping me out, brother!
Thanks so much!!! i was using the hand auger method, but wasn't catching anything after several attempts. The key was to turn the handle and apply the pressure to help get it deeper into the pipe (i assume into the p-trap or beyond). I finally caught the big nasty hairball after following your video! So thank you so much!! Also I love the mock up you used at he beginning. It was a very helpful visual for those of us with absolutely zero knowledge in this area.
Thank you so much!! I opened the air vent thing and popped by plastic snake down there and, woah!, the water started draining! I really appreciate you posting these helpful tips!
bless you. we just got water back after a week, had the tub filled with snow for water to flush the toilets. tub wouldn't drain, but this quick fix worked immediately!! thank you!
Pat the Plumber, You just saved my damn morning. Where I live we all have issues with roots that have grown into everybody’s clean out. So every year or two we have to have a plumber come run the car through the pipe. My yard is way too nice and I’ll wait till it gets to the extreme before I try to dig up the pipe. Or I can have it lined. Either way you save my morning with that plastic bag with a rag in it trick. 5 seconds plunging and boom! Toothpaste cap and a bunch of my girls platinum hair 🤦🏻♂️🙄😂 thanks again 🤙🏻
Thank you for this video. The demo of the pipes and how it all looks inside was so helpful. I used an manual drum auger (with a drill attachment) and going clockwise was the trick. Got two handfuls of hair and gunk out!
its been 9 months without a decent shower and it took 3 minutes to fix, i used a plunger and i didnt even see anything get dislodged. thank you for your help omg
Very well made video. Thank you for showing the anatomy of the drain. I also appreciate you showing the 4 techniques. I will try these techniques to my shower drain tomorrow.
I went through many videos looking for a way to unclog my tub. No luck until i fell on this video. What worked was the reverse pressure with the plastic bag. Thank you
Thank you, this was very helpful. As a first time home owner all this type of stuff is new to me. I was able to clear a stubborn clog in a matter of minutes.
Very informative video. Funny thing is,,, I was having issues with my tub and I literally bought a 15ft auger but wasn't sure how to use it until I just so happened to come across this video. Thanks 👍
Thank you, thank you - why did I never think of using a plunger on my bathtub? Did the trick so that I don't need to use a snake - and if I do, you have shown me how!
Been watching several videos about this now. And this one have all solutions I've seen before plus more and great tips about safety and to avoid damage. This is the best video for this! Thanks a lot!
Thanks for this video explaining how the drain is setup and the different methods in unclogging the bathtub. Without this video I would have wasted long time with the useless 20 inch plastic snake that wouldn't go down. Since I didn't have a plumbers tool like the auger, I ended up using the plunger method and that worked perfectly in clearing it out. Also learning for anyone using the plunger method, make sure you block the overflow properly with the rag covered in plastic bag as explained in the video. I only used tiny bag with opening. I learnt the hard way that the force was enough to splash disgusting water on my shirt, thank God it wasn't the face, would have had hard time for days still thinking about it. 😀
Glad the video was helpful! Great point about the plastic bag. I forgot to include it in this video, but if you have 2 plungers, you can put one plunger over the overflow to block the air and use the other one on the drain. Just some info for the future. Thanks for the feedback! Take care!
Been watching a few different videos and I think I'm lucky in that they're basically ALL informative and helpful. I really like that you showed the structure of the pipes at the beginning as I had no clue what the mysterious P-trap was, plus it helps to watch an auger being used by different people so I can really get a feel for what's going on. RUclips to the rescue. If this works, I need to write all of you a check 😂
Just want to say thank you! Ultimately ended up resolving my clog using an auger with the steps you provided. Only $30 versus what I can only imagine to get a plumber out. Again, thank you!
My wife and I were able to unclog our bathtub drain by using an auger first and then the plunger method last. Actually I believe the plunger method alone would have been sufficient due to the auger not pulling much hair out. We filled the tub about 1/4 water, then lightly pressed with the plunger about 3x and it was finished. Took a whole 3min and saved us $200+ easily. Also the type of plunger we used was a $4 plunger from Walmart. It had a longer plunger to it that the traditional plunger. Thanks for the video and hope this comment helps others where the auger doesn’t work.
I just found your channel and watched some of your videos. You are awesome! So clear and detailed on these videos with High Definition. I'm a new subscriber now!
Watched a number of other videos - this was the best by far - other videos also suggested vinegar and baking soda and hot water to clear the drain -- wonder what Pros DIY has to say about that since it was not covered in this video. thx
i still had trouble removing my drain, ended up having to use needle nose pliers grip below and then pliers to get top off. i had a clean drain. i tried using a wire to try and clear more below drain, nothing. then tried the plunger method which seems to have worked for now. thanks for the idea. i had no idea i could invert my plunger to use on shower.

I'm sure a plumber would've cleaned your pipes for free with a little strategic negotiating...
Literally no cares that your single or that you don’t have a man to help no one cares just enjoy the vid and stfu
ARE YOU READY TO BE BEST FRIENDS WITH GRANDMA NUENEZ??? WOWOWOWOWOWO! STRONG WOMAN AND STRONG POWER!
Same here girl, just did the same thing. Thank goodness for youtube
@@robspot101 😂😂😂😅
It's very good idea to show the construction of the pipe given most of the viewers are layman, thanks for the carefully made video.
Thanks Dan! Cheers!

The thing I hate the most about a clog is that the sitting water can quickly make your tub dirty if you don't watch it. So glad I found this.
The use of a mockup piping is brilliant. Better to see it once than hear it a hundred times.
This video made my day, like seriously, thank you so much brother. I dropped like 50 buck in drain openers to no avail. Called my rental company to put the work order in and they did nothing. This is the best video out there for unclogging. Showing the piping behind the wall is perfect. Thank you!
I have been trying for a week to unclog my shower drain. Did what he said and BAM it's unclogged. Best plumber ever.

That plunger trick did it for me! Thanks!!!
Thanks! This helped a ton and saved me a plumber's trip!
Good job -- crystal clear on the 3 methods. I've lost a screw or two! I've also seen a few tenderloins of hair, grease and shampoo.
Thanks Richard! Cheers!
Thanks much for the mock up. That helped me a lot because I'm not familiar with much plumbing.
hey man i tried the plunger and it worked like a charm thanks man!!!
Great info! Thank You! After going through all that, the best advice is to get a drain cover to catch the stuff before it goes down the drain.
Thank you Katherine!
Oh my God you are terrific ,I will use planger first .then the rest by you have some good pointers . this old lady thanks you
Thanks for the tip with the plunger. I unclogged the shower drain.

I have no clue why but I’ve tried every method and no luck. It feels like eventually my hand auger just hits a dead end and absolutely will not budge.
Very informative and I liked the various options part. Thanks for your time to make this useful video.
