Pink Lord Basically it looks like people who don’t want violence but don’t understand it doesn’t just go away magically through law and an attempt at making laws to do so ends in truly unnecessary harm and loss of basic human rights, all out of the idea that they don’t like violence. The other side doesn’t like violence either, but understands that violence occurs regardless and that they should, instead of wishing really hard until it goes away, prepare to defend themselves from it.

Yeah that I understand. But to prevent someone anyone from actually owning a gun legally, it can greatly reduce the easy access to do harm. I imagine a scenario that I'm going to my friend's house and there's a gun... I'm like dude are you going to shoot me?! Or even if it's a nice guy they point a gun on him.. I'm pretty impressed with this series overall for that exact reason. With a few exceptions, almost every episode I've watched, I've gone into it with a preconceived notion of what certain people are going to say, based on their looks or their position on the issue, and have come away realizing that they're real people with real thoughts. Even though I know it, I'm learning more and more that the majority of people out there are actually thoughtful, and can be respectful of each other's opinions. There are relatively few people that are just "sheep". It's really too bad that our current political climate has made us so automatic to make surface judgements of each other.

Lololoololololololoool loloolololol yes but almost 40% of guns in the crimes are stolen. So the people who buy guns don’t necessarily give the criminals guns
I think the pro-gun people try and keep the gunshow loophole confusing. Because yes, most dealers at gunshows can’t take advantage of it and it keeps the gun control crowd busy spinning their wheels trying to close something that is already closed but to a small fraction of private face to face sales.
FFLs cannot sell guns without an ATF Form 4437 (Background check). But, it’s within my legal right to sell my own personal property to whomever I wish. However, if I intentionally buy a gun with the intention to sell to someone because they cannot pass a background check, then it is illegal.
Doesn't happen. I do like to go to a gun show but even with the "little card" that I have flashed, my concealed carry license, which required me to submit my finger prints and agree to a background check is still not enough. I have to go through another one when I'm buying from the dealer at the gun show. Even with a clean background check a seller can just outright refuse if they get a bad vibe from you.
@Gary Winthorp In my state you can go to a gun show and buy guns from a private seller without doing a NICS back ground check. is that a loophole they are talking about? I know this because i had a FFL license and use to sell at gun shows.

@bobbobbington3615 There really isn't much a way to measure exactly this, so what's the point of really mentioning it? Even if someone used a gun from a private sale and scraped the serial off, you could never prove where that person got it from anyways.
What we should be focusing on is how to make it more and more difficult for criminals to get guns which they do illegally. We gotta tackle gun trafficking, that’s the key.

Salanchro Falcon I understand that it is a Hyperbole, I understand it was supposed to be an exaggeration; However, there is a major difference between an exaggeration and a lie. There are possible vendors that illegally sell their firearms on the spot instead of going through background checks and protocols first. In that sense though, is it any different from growing up in a more urban area and illegally purchasing them? There will always be good an evil. There is a small majority and I’d be willing to say less than 10% of vendors selling firearms on the spot to a customer that is a first time customer. I can understand a vendor who is familiar and friends with a customer that has been a returning customer and a long tine customer to sell them a firearm and allow them to walk out of the store the same day with said firearm. To say that every vendor is illegally allowing customers to walk out with firearms because there is a very small percentage of people selling illegal firearms on the street is absurd.

Greetings from Denmark. We have some of the world's most strict guns laws and it is great. I have never seen a person not from the police or military carry a gun before in my 30 years of living. Listening to people talk about feeling the need to have a gun to protect themselves from guns is absurd to me because that is far from the reality I live in. I really think the US should take steps towards that.
Yeah pretty obvious the gun show loophole is ridiculous because it’s not licensed dealers selling guns without a background check that’s illegal. If someone wanted to show up to a gun show and sell a gun right outside that door it would be a private sale.
@master DOGE I've been to multiple gun shows & the level of security/police involvement or otherwise is dependent on that communities laws. Sometimes it's a clear presence other times it's a few & I've even seen only private security hired by the location the gun show is being held in. Let's not generalize.
Right? That's why every country except the USA is a tyrannical dictatorship where the citizens have zero rights, and the USA never does anything to infringe on their citizens, like spying on them.
Elysian Sounds Don’t assume my beliefs. Other countries are just impaired on their rights to self defense, leaving the government with complete control. Plus that’s my point. We need the 2nd Amendment because it is possible for the USA to become tyrannical.
@poet moet To quote the 2nd Amendment "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". It says nothing about conditions of being. Now, as much as I agree with anyone else that the dangerously ill should not be armed I have to wonder why psychotics and demented people are allowed to be part of greater society at all. Surely the problem is not that they are armed but that they are deranged. As for the depressed, that's a state most people will find themselves in at one point or another in their lives. Should they be made to hand over all of their firearms when that happens? Or should the government stick them with a mood-chip and decide they can have them back when "we've seen you're better now"? Or is feeling depressed at any point in your life enough to bar you from defending yourself forever? Because that seems somewhat counter-intuitive. Whether you should or shouldn't(morally) have a gun at any given moment is one thing, but that the State aught to have the right to decide for you what your mental state is and what that says about your life is entirely intolerable. As for former felons, and this is brought up often by the background check people, why should they not be allowed to own or carry? *Did they not already serve their sentence to the satisfaction of the justice system* ? If they did how do you justify continuing to punish them through reducing their bill of rights? And while we're at it what crimes qualify for the revocation of the basic civil rights insured by the founding principle of the nation and who gets to decide that? And if they didn't then why are they out of jail? Either you don't believe criminals can be rehabilitated - in which case I'm sure you must support the universal death sentence for all felonies - or you would entrust in an organization you believe to be dysfunctional one of your most basic, fundamental civil rights. Either way, the argument doesn't pan out. I'd rather demented people and criminals be removed from society - or punished in such a way as to discourage further crime without having to disassociate them - but if this is not possible I'd rather the people who make it so not be the same that decide who can and cannot be armed. Clearly, they cannot be trusted.
I am from Germany and guns are illegal here. There are school shootings in America and I personally don’t know if I would feel safe going to school over there. They don’t happen super often and I know that, but I do think that even one innocent person killed is to much. 6ft3_Goat_Kyle So, how drug cartels get millions and millions of dollars in guns every year? There is something wrong with your gun laws, you have to accept that. Just find the right place and you can get whatever you want.
When the African American women said just walk up to a gunshow and buy 20 guns without anything or any question. (When you don’t know what your talking about)
The car analogy was the best. (Was the #2 cause of death behind heart disease in the US for the longest time-dont recall where gun violence sat in the rankings) When you are barely trying to learn how to drive you aren't going to jump into rush hour traffic in a large city. You practice, you learn, you take your time to become a safe driver. Apply the same logic with guns. Safe gun handling should be part of the public school curriculum if you ask me. Interesting vid.
I agree, but there needs to be a middle ground and both sides need to be able to look at it from both angles. Taking away one weapon only leads to increased violence with another, and leaves law abiding citizens vulnerable.
Actually, that's partly true. If the "little card" is a Federal gun collectors permit. Even then, you can't just walk out with the guns. You still have to have a BI to confirm it is valid.
Steven Bass it’s not even partly true if you have your FSC card (Firearm Safety Certificate) which you need to actually purchase a firearm you’re not allowed to purchase no more than 1 of each type of firearm (pistol, rifle, and shotgun) within a 30 day period unless you’re a certified FFL dealer which hold a Federal Firearms License. Which only manufactures and dealers own (business owners that sell firearms)
Steven Bass a c&r license does not do that. All it does is remove the ffl transfer when purchasing a firearm and the gun in question has to be at least 50 years old.
It seems to me that it's different depending on where you live. Where I'm from if you have a valid photo concealed carry license you can walk into any gunshop and by anything and however many you want as long as it's not class 3. If it's from a ffl dealer there has to be a transfer but your ccl acts as the background check and that part can be skipped. If it's a non ffl dealer sale than it's up to the seller to make sure the buyer is legally allowed to own the gun and neither the background check or transfer are required. Generally the people selling at gun shows are ffl dealers so technically if you've got the money and are willing to do the paperwork you can go in and buy as many as you want.
Wellll... in Texas, if you show your LTC(licence to carry) you dont need to have a background check cuz you already had one to get the LTC. So theoretically, you can walk in and buy as many guns you want with a "little card"

“A simple background check can go a long way” Go to a gun range, ask to do the process to buy a gun and not actually get a gun, and you will see that there is a background check no matter where you are.
Many private sellers at shows these days run a background check before they'll sell, it's not required, but they opt to, and that just increases the difficulty to find the loophole. Many shows are also patrolled by LE, and if a dealer or seller gets a bad feeling about your intentions, like if you are dodging sellers that require a check, they'll report your suspicious activity.
@@Tomb-Wraith you clearly don't understand the facts because you would know that most sellers at a gun show are indeed government approved and have to carry out background checks, most private sales at gun shows as the other commenter mentioned still go through checks just to be sure.

Thank you for making these Middle Ground videos. I was very affected by all the negativity that came out of the Parkland shooting, but watching this video and reading the comments inspired me to create my own "both sides" take on the gun control issue. So I wrote a song about it. And it was very therapeutic to really try to understand both sides, to really put myself in that someone else's shoes and see why they believe the way they do. I fully believe in the idea of actively trying to understand the people who hold beliefs we find disgusting/disparage/don't understand. And it's so validating and amazing to see something as popular as the Middle Ground series doing that.
That is completely wrong. No one is against immigration. We are against ILLEGAL immigration. ICE is ONLY going after ILLEGAL immigrants. There is no discussion, only: Do you think people should follow the laws or should we be a bunch of anarchists?
I am Black, pro-gun, and in law enforcement (just so y'all know my bias). I think I have a unique perspective to the "need more gun law" question. I don't believe we need more gun laws, we just need to do a better job of enforcing the laws on the books now. I just read an affidavit of a person accused of a crime where this guy bought 6 pistols from the same gun shop over the course of three months and each time he passed the background check, until somehow it comes to light that not only was he using a fraudulent ID, but that he has a felony case in a different state. He is accused of being a straw purchaser and fraud but he still beat the background check and this disproves the whole "universal background check" argument that people are getting guns without a background check. So I think it would be a better use of resources to hire more background investigators and/or update, streamline, modernize the felony database, than passing more new gun laws that are either Unconstitutional or won't do anything but make guns harder to purchase for your everyday American.
Thank you for this perspective, as a person who’s been in favor of tighter restrictions, seems to me that most of our current laws are under or not enforced. I always believe there should be no private to private citizen transfer of ownership, only through a licensed dealer, so everything is tagged and tracked
@@soulfulgardener I guess my only concern with your "tagged and checked" is what will the government do with access to that list. “I don’t want to carry guns” that’s totally fine and acceptable. Doesn’t mean I am not allowed to make that decision for myself. Isn’t that the liberal argument for abortion anyway
I feel like people who are pro-guns and anti-guns all want the same thing, to feel safe. Its 2 different correct answers to the same question. Anti-Guns: You wont have to worry as much about violence and mass shootings since guns would be harder to obtain. Pro-Guns: You can protect yourself from others who would use a tool (A gun) to hurt others. Guns are just tools. For centuries people have used them as tools to hunt animals. But its the people who would use those tools to hurt others, that make them dangerous. I personally am in support of Guns, but i can also understand why people do not support guns. I see guns as tools, or ways to defend yourself when you are in a life or death situation. i have lived in the country where you would used guns to protect yourself from wild animals, but i have also lived in the city, so i can understand why people do not want guns. I agree with making guns harder to obtain, but at the same time, i disagree with banning them; if someone had a gun, and were shooting into a group of people and guns were banned, you would have to wait a few minutes for police to arrive. in that time span many people could be killed. But if guns are not banned, there could be someone in that crowd who has a licence for concealed carry, and protect himself and everyone else from the person who was shooting into the crowd way quicker then the police could in this situation.
The entire premise of your argument is wrong. I have not seen one person suggest a complete ban on guns. The entire basis of the disagreement revolves around if you need semiautomatic weapons and bump stocks to protect yourself. Unless you are expecting a zombie horde or the apocalypse the answer should be no
@@dawnbenedict7606 Thats naive thinking there, the only people who wouldn't have guns are the people who follow the law. But the criminals and such would have one. You see the problem. If we can get rid of the illegal gun trade, then it would be more safer to ban guns. But at the end of the day, even if we banned all guns, and criminals didn't have any (which is impossible), then we would most likely be in the same situation as Europe (acid, and knives). So it's really people that are the problem, and the guns just assist them.
I walked into a gun show in Kentucky and bought a Barret .50 Cal. Without a background check and I'm not even a citizen. Your gun restrictions are laughable.
@COLIN MONGE it's not a good thing. I haven't met a lot people in my life where I can say "yeah, I trust him with an instrument of death". Too much freedom is a bad thing...humans aren't the type of creatures you can just let roam around unsupervised.
@MR. Right actually..no its not safer. Considering self defense techniques (Martial arts) its harder to defend yourself from a knife than it is with a gun
@MR. Right Um no. 40000 deaths by knives in u.k. every year. 30000 deaths including suicides by guns every year. Your "much safer" country has an issue.
There is no gun show loophole, you can’t just walk into a gun show with a lot of money and walk out with a bunch of guns with no background check. This has been proven on many occasions
You can purchase muzzleloaders without going through an FFL because they are not defined as firearms by the ATF. If you have a C&R (curios and relics) Federal Firearms License from the ATF then you can have certain, older firearms shipped to your house. Basically collectible rifles from WWI, for example.
I spent the majority of my adult life in the military. They trained me in a multitude of areas, including the use of firearms. I carry every day and pray I never have to use it.
Damn right man I just came back from Korea before that shooting happened then purchased a gun myself. I’m even stationed at fort bliss so it made me want one even more
I could count on one hand the amount of guns I had seen (in person) before joining the army at 22, and i was anti gun because of all that I've heard. I was one of those "Guns are evil" persons. Now, I'm moving towards getting my license to carry. Guns are out there, whether we like it or not and alot of the people who have them don't have good intentions. I want to ensure that I can protect me and my love ones if I ever need to.
"oh we want to stop violence, we should make guns illegal..." That's a good point, let's use that logic elsewhere... "We want to stop drug problems, we should make Meth illegal..."
I could hit the local police station with a baseball from my front porch. It took them 4 minutes to respond to a multiple person fight in the street a few doors down.
they dont want guns because they dont want violence, the others want guns to protect themselves from violence

Lololoololololololoool loloolololol yes but almost 40% of guns in the crimes are stolen. So the people who buy guns don’t necessarily give the criminals guns
The people who talk about a “gun show loophole” have never been to a gun show
I think the pro-gun people try and keep the gunshow loophole confusing.
It doesn’t exist Steven crowder proved that
@Gary Winthorp In my state you can go to a gun show and buy guns from a private seller without doing a NICS back ground check. is that a loophole they are talking about? I know this because i had a FFL license and use to sell at gun shows.

As a libertarian I’m disappointed nobody even discussed the real point of the 2nd Amendment. To protect the citizens from a corrupt government
Tyler Wirig Absolutely man! The rights of the people shall not be infringed so long as the people can protect themselves
Right? That's why every country except the USA is a tyrannical dictatorship where the citizens have zero rights, and the USA never does anything to infringe on their citizens, like spying on them.
Lucas Schilling I know right
@@tdub0315 How exactly is it considerably better? Genuinely curious
Elysian Sounds Don’t assume my beliefs. Other countries are just impaired on their rights to self defense, leaving the government with complete control. Plus that’s my point. We need the 2nd Amendment because it is possible for the USA to become tyrannical.
I like that girl in the wheel chair! She's been through some shit and is a really strong person. I can see myself being her friend
Me too - I admire her.
@poet moet
To quote the 2nd Amendment "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".

They don’t happen super often and I know that, but I do think that even one innocent person killed is to much. But on the other hand, I am speaking from a very privileged point of view because there is by far not as much violence in Germany as there is in America and I totally understand that you want to protect yourself and your loved ones.
I agree. There has been a false alarm shooting in my school despite it being a very safe district. Since it’s america though it’s not that outlandish. Gun control is the path to gun bans. Repeal gun control.
I want to know where you can buy twenty guns at a gun show with a "little card."
I think we all should step forward for that one.. *girl proceeds to roll in a wheelchair*

Go to a gun range, ask to do the process to buy a gun and not actually get a gun, and you will see that there is a background check no matter where you are.
Or you can just go to a show, find a private seller, and buy a gun for no check and about half the money.

FirstName LastName “No one is against immigration” Well I feel a little left out man.
Obviously we want bad guys to go to jail for straw purchases or using weapons to commit crimes. But what happens to these lists once you pass the background check?
My favourite comment on this video. Very well-spoken, clear and polite - well done 🙂

The entire basis of the disagreement revolves around if you need semiautomatic weapons and bump stocks to protect yourself. Unless you are expecting a zombie horde or the apocalypse the answer should be no
@@Prateek500000 so you would support a ban on simi-automatics?
off colored explain to me what the practical use of semi autos is

Robert Slackware totally makes sense
Robert Slackware no it dont
Robert Slackware what is your reasoning. Explain in different words for better understanding
You're right, trying to convince us to give up our liberty is meaningful, but only in the worst way possible.
We have a society problem not a gun problem
JakobLmao the U.S has both
we have a socity problem called gun problem.
If we have a society problem, and society has access to guns, what would that be?
But having guns just adds to the problem. If nobody had a gun than nobody would need one.
No middle ground and no compromise. I refuse to compromise with anti-gunners.
and vice versa. your way has cost us millions of innocent lives and 4 dead sitting presidents. a gun ban is now necessary
@@Bob-sx7iv millions of lives my ass

@@oceanbreeze1162 yes a political reform movement slaughtered millions of people and not the gun? brilliant albert

You can’t just go into a gun show and buy 20 guns and walk out with them. It doesn’t work that way.
StetsonTheGreat I know right? I was just thinking, man I wish that true lol
Erik Torbjørn Bjørnsson yeah bud that would be Cool statement if it was true.
@@Bigbubba446 It is. I have no agenda, nor do I know any of you..what's my incentive to make it up?
Meanwhile in the UK, we have one of the highest rates of knife crime in the capital
@MR. Right actually..no its not safer. Considering self defense techniques (Martial arts) its harder to defend yourself from a knife than it is with a gun
XObunny chanOX wait youre telling me its harder to avoid a knife attack than a bullet?
I rather get shot than get stabbed, because only one of those things would be painless and quick.
@MR. Right Um no. 40000 deaths by knives in u.k. every year. 30000 deaths including suicides by guns every year. Your "much safer" country has an issue.
@t38 big trees um no. L.a. restricted the hell out of guns. They have such big issues because they won't legalise guns.

There is no gun show loophole, you can’t just walk into a gun show with a lot of money and walk out with a bunch of guns with no background check. This has been proven on many occasions
Unknown i think you can (at least here in Michigan) if they’re antiques.
Good to know I will look into it. always good to learn new things
You can purchase muzzleloaders without going through an FFL because they are not defined as firearms by the ATF. If you have a C&R (curios and relics) Federal Firearms License from the ATF then you can have certain, older firearms shipped to your house. Basically collectible rifles from WWI, for example.
I was neither until I joined the Army. Now, I conceal-carry after the El Paso shooting.
I spent the majority of my adult life in the military. They trained me in a multitude of areas, including the use of firearms. I carry every day and pray I never have to use it.
Damn right man I just came back from Korea before that shooting happened then purchased a gun myself. I’m even stationed at fort bliss so it made me want one even more
@@jalenwalker8790 nice I go fort bliss soon.
@@jalenwalker8790 still stuck over here with that coronavirus😒
I could count on one hand the amount of guns I had seen (in person) before joining the army at 22, and i was anti gun because of all that I've heard. I was one of those "Guns are evil" persons. Now, I'm moving towards getting my license to carry. Guns are out there, whether we like it or not and alot of the people who have them don't have good intentions. I want to ensure that I can protect me and my love ones if I ever need to.
It makes me really happy to see this channel growing and discussions growing along with it. This channel is so important!
Homie looks like Rick Grimes 2.0 and he's anti gun. Mind blown.
He flexed on the disabled woman by saying “go stand over there”

"oh we want to stop violence, we should make guns illegal..."
That's a good point, let's use that logic elsewhere...
"We want to stop drug problems, we should make Meth illegal..."
McB12329 Their logic was disproven swiftly with that woman’s tragic experience.
Well, lots of countries are making people stop smoking by increasing cigarette prices. Increasing price of ammo could be a start.
무군 And that leads to an increase in illegal black market sales, with all the violence that it implies.
@@cyrogen9922 By that logic we should just make everything legal.
@@ZartaxtheWise Except that we're not trying to reduce violence/homicide rates by outlawing meth.
I’m obsessed with this series!! More more more please
I heard a quote a little while ago…”when seconds count the police are only minutes away.”
I could hit the local police station with a baseball from my front porch. It took them 4 minutes to respond to a multiple person fight in the street a few doors down.
