Thank you for your informative channel, lots of great advice and like you I err on the side of prudence. I’m EXACTLY like you in regard to finances and it drives those around me insane. I won’t live according to my means, I live way way below my means out of a deep seated fear of destitution. The horror of drowning financially has kept my budget the same now as it was when I was broke. I wear clothes until they fall apart; I cut my own hair and drive cars until 200,000+ miles. People think I’m broke until I mention portfolios or a Roth IRA. Basically there’s two kinds of people, savers and spenders and when I was quite poor I fantasized that one day I’d be a spender but like you said that day comes and the excitement over a purchase has faded and the true “excitement” is knowing you’ve got stability.
I think the concept of “hard work” is one that isn’t clearly defined in America. My dad worked 2 full time jobs at grocery stores, and could barely pay the mortgage when I was growing up. There’s also unpaid labor, such as caring for your children that isn’t discussed when it comes to “working hard.” People everywhere “work hard” to survive, raise their kids etc. I think that the people who do become wealthy are better at working the system instead of simply “working harder” than the average person.
but what determines working hard? You say that because your dad had 2 full time jobs at a grocery store, he was a hard worker. But (i mean no offense by this at all) could your dad have studied and put himself in a position for a better job that earns him more money? I'm not saying every rich person works hard, (most of them do tho), but some people can make incorrect decisions in their early life and are then forced to "work hard" and pay for those mistakes. That doesnt mean they deserve to be rich.
@@YouMockMe what does it matter what the "system" makes him do, hard work is hark work regardless of any system. Having children as the example. It's hard work to raise a family.

I'm in my late 40’s. Once I get paid, I begin to spend on irrelevant things. I work hard for my money, so I believe I can spend it on what I like. The older I get, the more my perspective shifts. That shame often creates a lot of hate within people. It’s understandable but it isn’t the right mentality to have. Understanding personal finances and investing will most likely lead to greater financial independence. By being knowledgeable about money and investing, individuals can make informed decisions about how to save, spend, and invest their money. A trader made over $350k in this recession influenced market
The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Tierra and Graham have my heart. Tierra is so positive and kind. Absolutely loved Graham's expressions when he was listening to the minimum wage workers when they were talking about what they would do if they had more money. As though he feels and understands every word they were saying about their struggles without any judgments or preconceived notions.
There's a book I read recently "The Millionaire Next Door" and basically people who inherit a million dollars are less likely to hold on to the money because millionaires are actually a lot more frugal if they have to earn it. It never matters how much you make, someone who makes 60k can become a millionaire by saving, and someone who makes 100k can be in debt because of their lifestyle (expensive cars, clothes, houses, food, etc). i.e. 10:13
But if you're rich it's easy to get richer. You've a guy saying: Give me 50,000 and I give you 75,000 back in 3 months. And it works. There is always a "guy" who is smart enough to make money if he gets money in the first place. You buy smart people and tose them away when they become useless. "someone who makes 60k can become a millionaire by saving" his children who inherit the money.
So I just dusted off excel and did the math. Based on earning median salaries (interpolated based on age) throughout your entire working life, starting from the age of 17, if you only ever spent equal to minimum wage and saved all of your other earnings (all calculations are after tax), you would finally be a millionaire when you are 66 (the year before retirement). It's a loose estimation with an assumption that median salaries would match inflation but what it comes down to is that the average US citizen (who would reach a 60K salary by the time they're 46) will basically never be a millionaire working a regular job and not investing in a portfolio.
@@anamewillcomelater Millionaires invest. They don't just let money sit. If you only invest 1k a month in the safest way possible (VOO stock) you'll have a million in 22 years.

So, a bit easier to read this time "There exist people who became millionaires by inheritance" An incorrect way to interpret this statement might be "They are millionaires by inheritance", which would be defining a specific subset of the group "millionaires", which in this instance would likely refer to those featured in the video. An important factor in being able to parse (break down) this sentence is understanding the difference between the words "They" and "There", and their different uses. Now, normally people get confused between "Their", "There", and "They're", which is why this is typically taught in first or second grade, so as to help prevent children from being functionally illiterate (which means to not have a literary capacity to a particular standard). @@xokkumaOh I agree, I think students don't understand teachers either. There are some real bad eggs in both groups but students tend to forget that teachers are people with emotions and problems of their own and are just trying to do a job and teachers forget what it was like being a teenager when literally anything else is more important to them than the class. So I’m 21 and have obviously been a student. I now work as youth worker with disengaged teenagers so I see both points of view as I may not be an official teacher but I still have a lot of the same responsibilities. The biggest issue for teenagers in schools is that that do not feel listened to or respected by teachers and I understand I felt as a teenager I was a number for a teacher to tick off to get an increase in their pay check if I passed but as I am in this teaching role now it’s not so much the person, believe me I have met some teachers who hate children and I have no idea why they are teaching, but the time and economic constraints they are under. You are one person with a class of 25+ trying to teach them the lesson and deal with the emotions of them and the behaviours. It is really difficult and such a complex balance. Adult professionals need to be more empathetic towards student but again it’s down to the government and funding.
GRAHAM MY BOY IS HERE GOD DAMN
I think the concept of “hard work” is one that isn’t clearly defined in America. My dad worked 2 full time jobs at grocery stores, and could barely pay the mortgage when I was growing up. There’s also unpaid labor, such as caring for your children that isn’t discussed when it comes to “working hard.” People everywhere “work hard” to survive, raise their kids etc. I think that the people who do become wealthy are better at working the system instead of simply “working harder” than the average person.
Your father chose a family over wealth. ....the "system" did not make him have sex/children
but what determines working hard? You say that because your dad had 2 full time jobs at a grocery store, he was a hard worker. But (i mean no offense by this at all) could your dad have studied and put himself in a position for a better job that earns him more money? I'm not saying every rich person works hard, (most of them do tho), but some people can make incorrect decisions in their early life and are then forced to "work hard" and pay for those mistakes. That doesnt mean they deserve to be rich.
@@YouMockMe no matter what choice he did he still is working hard
@@YouMockMe what does it matter what the "system" makes him do, hard work is hark work regardless of any system. Having children as the example. It's hard work to raise a family.
@@detweiler You're correct, but I can assure there are much harder things. Like becoming a robotics engineer or a brain surgeon. Thats why those pay more then working at a grocery store.

I would love to see a study of 'self-made' millionaires who are doing what they are doing because of childhood financial trauma. At 42, I've come to realize that money is a tool. I’ve worked so hard over the years to realize that if you don’t make money work for you, you can’t experience true freedom. I’m glad I found that out although it was later in life, but that marked the turning point in my finances.
I'm in my late 40’s. Once I get paid, I begin to spend on irrelevant things. I work hard for my money, so I believe I can spend it on what I like. The older I get, the more my perspective shifts. I want to take my finances into consideration and put myself in order before it's too late. How are you doing it, Sir?
Herman Jonas, an astute financial analyst is the brain behind my success.

@@clevelandohiofan how is it uninformed? I've been homeschooled for 8 years of my life. there really isn't that big a difference between homeschooled kids and public schooled kids, it just depends on the people and the circumstances.

Half of them are millionaires so yea that almost guarantees they will be smart and or hard working
@@dr.martinlroberts1908 There are millionaires by inheritance.
Edit: For those of you struggling, let's break this statement down
There are (as in describing the existence of something; an undisclosed group, exists) millionaires (now defining the aforementioned [previous] group) by inheritance (a feature describing how said group came to exist).
So, a bit easier to read this time "There exist people who became millionaires by inheritance"
An incorrect way to interpret this statement might be "They are millionaires by inheritance", which would be defining a specific subset of the group "millionaires", which in this instance would likely refer to those featured in the video.
Most of the people reading my comment seem to have missed that lesson though, I'll just assume it's because you're all so bright that you skipped both first and second grade.

First rule to becoming rich:
Don’t work harder. Work smarter.
Kind of an empty statement. Sure you can get up on your high horse and say that but you need to know what you're doing.
MCN yes. I know. And that’s why I’m saying work smarter.... you literally just proved my point. I’m not rich lol, but following what the rich people in this vid were saying this is what I got from it. That one bald guy works hella hard but he’s still minimum wage. But these other rich people made smart decisions and made sacrifices. Yes, you do have to work hard but working smarter is what’s going to get you on top.
And then the rest is mind set and not giving up and no just making excuses
No , its just about exploiting others
123 456 yes also this. It’s true that nice guys finish last. That’s why I brought up sacrifices because it’s not always easy making it to the top. You could be fair but that’s not always likely.
Make a Teachers vs students, that would be interesting
I feel like teachers don’t understand students. They wonder why some of us are always rude in their specific class but they don’t take the time to wonder what they’re doing as a teacher
Idk, maybe its the disconnect between what people are willing(allowed) to share when they are in school (both students and teachers).
I think, I am sometimes guilty of this myself, when you become an adult and you mature you forget what it was like to be a teenager and the issues they face seem illogical to the issue we face. Adult professionals need to be more empathetic towards student but again it’s down to the government and funding. Again teenagers, not all, are ignorant and don’t see teachers as people who are under a magnitude of stress.
As I said it’s a balance that needs to be fixed.
@@georgiajones8263I agree 100% I think you put it well, I'm a teacher in Secondary school myself, but I have such a close relationship with my 15 year old nephew who is not afraid to tell me exactly what he thinks especially of his teachers and school. Also I remember what it was like as a kid and I went into teaching so some students wouldn't have the same experience I had. Boy, did I not realise how much pressure was put on teachers though.

@@smallnoob7577
It is absolutely, worldwidely forbidden, but we know how to do it. Same for human clones, they tell we don't know how to but why oh why would we be able to make clones of every other animal species, but not humans ?
These are just extremly forbidden things, but YES of course it has been done already.
For example : just changing eye color is a genetical modification, and ofc we know how to, and ofc it has been done already to prove we can do it.
iDrraaaK no, we cannot make clones of humans. Do you even know how much data is required for that?
Test tube babies aren't genetically altered. The closet thing we have to test tube babies right now is where you make a bunch of embryos, test the genes (the only genes which are tested are sex chromosomes and some of the genes which can lead to the development of an illness), and then implant the one with the most "desirable" genes
Graham probably spends less than everyone in that room
I have a problem with that. Not so much with him in particular. He's rich, but not filthy rich (I assume). People with hundreds of millions or billions of dollars hoarding their wealth does nothing to stimulate the economy. They need to be out buying stuff and if they don't want/need to, or have too much money to spend, then why keep it all? They cant take it with them when they die. Keep enough so they are safe in case of financial problems and some for their kids. Majority of rich people horde money for status.
Erik, he doesn’t hoard his money, he invests his money in real estate and in the stock market to make even more money, there is a difference between spending money on things that you don’t really need vs investing
@@GroggyFrog okay and after he invests it and makes hundreds of millions of dollars, buys everything he wants in life, what then?
@@Erik-hi The amount of money billionaires spend is massive. They don't go out shopping for expensive clothes or cars to make a dent. They go out shopping for multinational companies. Their spending is usually on that scale.

Tierra looked very accepting, she could become the best version of herself if she kept that positive aura, hope she thrives!
Yea I loved her
Beautiful with good curiosity, sweet indeed. She might've had a tough start, but she's going places.
In the question "Everyone can become rich if work hard enough" Tierra went there with the millionaires and she said something right. But I felt she is not fully self-confidence. But she knows it, and she knows it in her heard, not only in the mind. This made me look deeper in her soul especially. I saw her in the beginning, I was watching everybody, I liked her but when I saw that short scene and she open herself even when she was a bit in defensive position unconsciously.
Tierra should become friends with graham, I feel like she has the mindset and determination to become rich, she just needs someone like graham to guide her.

She was born into a wealthy family and she had access to people who could help her. That’s why she’s a millionaire at such a young age similar to Kylie Jenner. @@jessicabixler1658 When you're 18 with no experience I understand, you get what can you get. But after that it's insane how much money you can save by not thinking you deserve anything. I have a used car that I slept in every night for three months so I could save enough money to buy my first set of tools. This video should have been called "self made millionaires versus minimum-wage workers". There should then be a follow-up video entitled " trust fund babies versus minimum-wage workers".
There is a huge difference between millionaires who began in the lower and middle class (which are actually a large portion of millionaires), and those who inherited their money.
I think something that gets lost in the discussions on the left is that not all rich people are super rich. Not all rich people live lives completely disconnected from the real world. Our issue is with the super rich and legacy families who become so wealthy and so detached from reality, that they probably couldn't even tell you what a gallon of milk costs. The people who have enough money to buy entire elections are the problem, not these young millionaires.
Arie Wolff, born smart?
@@edak82 i mean clever.
@AmazingPiggy Are you a trust fund baby?
Chris I wanted to say doesn't that become the argument for the wealthy families? If most millionaires are just like Graham and the other guy, then what separates them from the uber rich? Because every rich person who has wealth came from a family member who originally had nothing and was broke. But through investments they got rich and passed it down to their kids. Graham can easily start that legacy and get his kids and their kids to be billionaires some day. As far as politics go tho we the people should've enacted a law that stops politicians from getting bought out a long time ago.
