    I just finished this sweater for my daughter. The sweater turned out beautiful. The pattern was so easy to follow and of course the video cleared up any questions I had. I LOVE this sweater and I now know what I’ll be giving to the women in my family this year for Christmas. I complimented the sweater with Mj’s Buffalo family hat and the set together is so dang cute with a pair of jeans! Thanks Mj!

    I'm currently waiting for the yarn to deliver (got the same brand as used here). While I live right next to the Rockys and they do make a lovely view, I'm from the east and my heart belongs to the Smokeys, so I'm using the colors that remind me of them (Finnley Heather, Douglas Fir, and Bark)

    Purchased this lovely pattern and so excited to make it. Unfortunately it turned out much too big. I used 3.5 & 4mm hooks to get the tension correct and chose size XS even though I am 38” bust. Ended up having to frog it. I’ll give it another try leaving out the increases in last few rows.

Thanks so much in advance, can’t wait to start my project!!

    I’m ready to block my yolk. Excited! I want to soak in wool wash to soften & I don’t have a steamer. BUT I’m so glad I just thought of this, whenever I’ve hand washed my projects to block or what not, I see some of the dye come out into the water. So how are we supposed to wash a color block sweater w/o it changing the lighter colors! I’m using a lingonberry red and a brown in addition to the top lighter color. Thx for your help.

    Hi MJ! You made a size small in the tutorial but are you yourself modeling a small or medium? The one on your girls looks smaller. It always helps me to know which size you are modeling as you’ve shared your bust size before so it helps me gauge how I want mine to look. I’m always between a small and medium and I like how yours fits on you. So if you are wearing a small yourself, I’m going to make a small too. I only have two more rounds of the yolk left if I’m making a small and four more if I’m making a medium. Yay. Ty so much. I always buy and love all your patterns and instructions. ❤

    Awesome tutorial and I do love this sweater. I am a beginner and I still struggle with the beginning chain (not included as a stich) and where to start my first double crochet. I have seen so many videos but I must have a mental block :-) I have been counting my stitches so I am good but my join is crooked so I know I haven't been joining where I should 😞 Can someone suggest how to get this straight once and for all. And also, in watching the video when you reference the placement of the increases, can I please confirm that it is in fact in the middle of the previous increase stitches from the previous row? My increases are all at the stich right after so wanted to clarify. Thank you for helping this gal out. 🙂

      In this video, she skips the first three of the chain.
      I'm guessing but most likely your chain is too tight. Keeping consistent tension takes time and a lot of practice in the beginning but you will get it eventually.

      You need to check the pattern gauge when crocheting garments. The length is very easy to figure out. The ribbing is 3 rows = to 1", 80 rows divided by 3 equals 26.67". If you want to make it smaller than that reduce your hook size. It's not meant to be a tight collar as shown in the pictures of it modelled.

    I am currently working on the M size but the top yoke ended up with 7 inches instead of the 9 inches the designer has for the yoke. I checked my gauge and it is off but, if i were to follow the gauge, that means that it would actually be even smaller than what it is now. Any suggestions on how to adjust the gauge to end up with 9inches on top? Thank you

      Hi there, this is MJs admin assistant, pattern support questions are answered in the Facebook community group here facebook.com/groups/363218121026907/
      Or a suggestion I have would be to check out the crochet golden loop tutorials. People use it when their stitches are too short and they need to lengthen them.

    Just got to the part where I block off the sleeves and front and back, now realizing I have the wrong amount of stitches….. I really don’t want to start over. It’s my first big project so I’m fine if it’s not perfect. How should I adjust the markers to make it look right when finished? I ended with 336 stitches (was going for a medium).

      Hi, this is Emma Mjs daughter, she is currently away on holidays. I’d love to help but unfortunately I am unable to answer pattern support questions. To get some assistance quicker I would recommend posting this question in our Facebook community group. The group is filled with experienced crocheters who have made this pattern and many other MJs patterns. You can join the group here if you would like facebook.com/groups/363218121026907/

      Increasing means adding 2 stitches in your next stitch and decreasing is making a stitch using the next 2 stitches to make one stitch. There are tutorials to help out you should check them out.

    Why not just make the collar the right size so you don't have to steam it to shrink it? Honest question, I'm obviously clueless😅 Asking before I undo all this hard work and rework it a smaller size.

      I do not steam it to shrink it? I steam it because it prevents curling and smoothes it out.

    Followed the pattern so far. Up to row 4 on yoke. Yoke looks great but collar looks too wide. Used the 4mm hook. Now I'm wondering if I need to restart and try smaller hook. Or is it suppose to be a large?

      I'm having the same issue but I would rather know the length in inches or centimeters of your finished collar

    • @Ellie.J.R.4628
      @Ellie.J.R.4628 Год назад

      I had the same problem but I ended up frogging and started over but instead did one row hdc, then a row of sc till I finished my 80 rows (64 centimeters long or around 25"). The first one I did ended up being (90 centimeters long/35½"). Which turned out too big.

    • @mjsoffthehook
      @mjsoffthehook  Год назад +2

      When making sweaters it's important to understand gauge. The ribbing gauge is 3 rows = to 1". You take 80 rows and divide by 3, therefore the collar should be 26.67". If you have met the pattern gauge then everything should be good. Adjust your hook size until you meet the gauge and make sure you are using fingering weight #1 yarn.
