Police departments should not be allowed to investigate themselves, utterly ridiculous.
Most asinine thing ever.
Right! However the action to take is file an Internal Affairs complaint which is an independent body that oversees police conduct where they interview the cops involved in a deposition videotaped interview to get their story on record, which then stays in their employment file for up to 5 Years and it can effect pay raises or promotions. This incident is the very reason why there needs to be NATIONAL POLICE REFORM!
The FBI really should investigate this as a civil rights offense.

The simple fact that, despite losing the case, the top brass of that law enforcement agency claims the deputies "did nothing wrong", is a clear indicator of how deep the issues of racism, discrimination and bias are entrenched in that department. To boot, the deputies were also promoted, following the incident, is unconscionable.

My husband was stopped while returning a book to the San Lorenzo public library by the Alameda county sheriff's. It was around seven thirty on a sunday morning. They demanded his driver's license even though he was walking carrying a thin book. I guess the sheriff offiers had never seen a real book next to a library. Also in the early 1990's they shot and murdered an elderly man in my neighborhood for not following orders. We moved away from Alameda county to distance ourselves from these thugs.
I used to live there because as a young girl with 3 sisters my parents decided to leave Massachusetts and "go west." I had a friend who's father was the head of Oakland's police department, when he thought she had Cannabis in her room he beat her to an inch of her life. He gathered all her friends and the parents (including me) to their house. My friend's face was one black swollen bloody mess from his beatings.
He didn't find any information about drugs from anyone that day, we were good kids in the last year of high school. Oh how disappointed he was. I now live in Canada and the insanity here is widespread: intense racism, the RCMP getting away with murder and incompetence, gang wars, massive drug (and alcohol) problems, and of course the housing cost and homelessness issues are breaking this country too.
Underfunded disability and health care systems as well, for those who buy the propaganda that universal health care is 'free' up here. It's VAPORWARE - doctors are retiring so fast with no replacements available.
Anyway, I am so glad the jury made a proper decision and I hope these people don't have to fight for the money.
What happened was WRONG!!!
The mother and her kids deserve every bit of that award that the courts gave to them.
This is why we can't get potholes fixed because cities are constantly paying these type of awards!
They should receive every penny of that 8 million+. So glad they were not unalived.
How can the IA department at the police station say the cops did nothing wrong?
This was such an obvious breach of their civil rights.
That Chief and everyone else needs to be fired and replaced.
We need to take a close look at the curriculum being taught at all academys across the country.
Because they review cases against policy not laws. That’s why the jury sent a message with an $8mil award
The Federal needs to look over I.A, a founding and I.A. dept need to be investigated.
They received a promotion for following the procedures they were taught. Do not be fooled, they get payed more to harass like it's a congratulation.
They drink out of the same trough.
You really think they teach anything at the police academy?
The mere fact that their department didn't see that these officers didn't do anything wrong says a lot of how F'ed up the system is 😮
We investigated ourselves and found no wrong doing.
And obviously the reporter’s don’t believe they deserve the payout 🤬🤬🤬
As a yt woman, mother am so happy for this family ❤️ They did nothing wrong and they deserve that money ✅
Don't be so quick to jump for joy, that $8.2mil can be reduced by the Judge. So, the Deputies have been promoted and the amount of $$ may NOT end up being anywhere near as much. We'll see.
@@johnstubbs3401it most likely won’t be lowered cuz they sued the city. It normally gets lowered when suing a private company
@@mermaid30019 I hope they get every penny. I just wish it was coming out of those cops pocket. They're never held accountable, what's stopping them from doing the same sh*t again?...NOTHING.
MOVIN ON UP TO THE EAST SIDE. FINALLY GOT A PIECE OF THE PIE.
You’re a RUclips woman? Not sure what else you meant. I just hope it’s not a racial reconstruction of a word
i am so glad they got a settlement but they should never have had to go through this
Exactly!!!
Right‼️
@ Jay Mioff. Yet blacks from everywhere else in the world. Come here and flourish in 1 generation! And don't experience any of the shit AA cry about all day. When you behave like a permanent underclass. You get treated like one.
fucking I work 10hours to pay tax and cops 👮♂️ mess up my fucking tax money
@@jillconner5062 Lets examine Amerikkka history through out the years. Then have a conversation about your bullshit!
Got a PROMOTION!!! What a slap in their faces. Got the message..UNDERSTOOD 😢
It's crazy how the Court found them guilty but the police officers themselves felt like they were doing the right thing and got a raise for it the disconnect between reality and police is real
Why is it that it cost the city 8.25 million dollars and at the same time, their internal affairs finds that the officers did nothing wrong. If it cost the city several million dollars, something was obviously wrong!
So glad they were awarded in their favor!!👍🏾
"They don't want to listen to us so we'll detain them." Sir, what?
Sounds like you've never had a taste of that sweet, sweet power. It's quite addictive.
That’s not law enforcement that’s ego.
@@karinaz8756 beg to differ with you on that.
@@yvonnerahmes9618 If the law was enforced here, none of this would have happened..
Ridiculous, they will be broke in 1 year.
If I was a lead officer on this staff I would make these 2 cops days a living hell- embarrassing the department and forcing a cash out on a simple procedure that could been easily avoided. Whose hiring these vandals?
