That child wasn’t in the wrong place, wrong time. He was exactly where he was supposed to be, doing exactly what his father asked him to do. He was entirely blameless. Using that phrase of “wrong place wrong time” makes it sound like he did something wrong. He did not. At all.

      Handcuffs!!! Seriously!!!?..
Everything about this 12-year-old boy (wearing "SHORT PANTS") is disarming,
except maybe the color of his skin.
I mean come on, what else could it be? The 12-year-old boy fitting a description (that old story) is a non-starter simply because the boy would obviously have told the police what he was doing and that he lived right there (and pointed) across the road (that's if they gave him a chance to) and the police could have walked him back to his house to make certain and no harm would have been done. But clearly, they took the heavyhanded approach, an accusatory approach, and subsequently escalated the situation. Morons!!!

When I was 9 years old in 1987, two white, female cops stopped me and my brother after we left a 7-11. My brother was 13. We bought chips and two cans of soda. The officers asked were our items stolen, handcuffed us and made us sit on the curb while they “figured out” what was going on. They took our names and asked our address and said we looked like we were “up to no good”, because of course we did….We were two Black boys, who to them probably looked like hardened gangbangers in their early 20’s. Because that’s how they see us. We can’t even be children. That was my first interaction with the police. They were mean and nasty for no reason. I couldn’t understand why they were so angry towards us. A far cry from the “friendly police officer” they have come to your school to talk about the dangers of drugs and whatnot. I’m 45 and I still remember those wicked bigoted cops, who harassed me and brother as kids walking home.

I was 15 when my brother, 13 yo, who I was babysitting - died in my care. When the police came out, they were total a$$holes. They kept asking my dad questions he felt were irrelevant next to the fact that his son was dead. He told them that he didn't wish to speak with them. He just wanted to be with my mother and mourn my brother (who was under the care of a physician, and did have a life-threatening disease). The cops got butt-hurt by his refusal to answer stupid questions, so they did a choke hold on him, threw him to the ground, tied him up so tightly that he suffered a severed nerve in his wrist, and arrested him on the sole charge of resisting arrest. I have never NEVER forgotten that moment in my life.
The cops refused to allow my brother's neurologist to have access to his body, refused to do an autopsy beyond "nefarious or not?" and were utter jerks. He died in my parents room and they took my mother's heart meds, and then refused to let her have any. She suffered a heart attack (luckily mild). Back then, nobody had cell phones, and there was no accountability. No lawsuit or payout. Just a case of police brutality (they told our neighbors that my parents, who weren't even there when my brother died - he was 13 - that they suspected my parents had killed my brother - and the neighbors were, truthfully, glad he was dead - he was 200 pounds of sheer muscle and uncontrolled rage and mental issues - I was forbidden from spending time with any of hte neighbor kids due to the violence of my younger brother).
No, you never EVER forget those cases of police brutality. And disturbingly enough, I'd experienced a situation the month prior where I had been the whistleblower on an international child pornography ring - only to have the regular beat-cop who showed up to do the first level investigation..... have him sexually manipulate and abuse me while ostensibly taking a statement from me.... where he asked me to use *his* body as a prop to explain exactly what had been done to me.... so he basically asked me to re-enact the abuse.... and when I balked, he told me that he was the only barrier standing between me and an arrest for prostitution (I was 15).... Again, I didn't know enough to know I was being manipulated and abused.... but that interaction was less than a month old when my brother died in my care.
To be clear, none of this includes any kind of racial profiling. I simply lived in a poor neighborhood. (ironically, the house I grew up in has been demolished, but the lot, and house built on it, is now worth millions, as it's in Silicon Valley)

It’s called “Group Think” psychological phenomenon in which the practice of thinking or making decisions as a group in a way that discourages creativity or individual responsibility.
"there's always a danger of groupthink when two leaders are so alike" so when you have one racist with another friend, most likely they have the same ideology. Police departments hire those with group think. Because they think being alike foster team-work, cohesiveness and builds relationships. When I turn it fosters ignorance, falsehoods, and behaviors which are most likely incompatible, inconsistent and incompetent to do any job especially one in which you must deal with people of all walks of life. Hence The application process for police jobs should have to take a personality and psychological test, but departments don’t want this. As the dumber you are, the most you are controlled. The clothes description was wrong, they could have asked for his parents but no, they detained him first.

@@christopherblackwell253 Cops did NOTHING WRONG. The kid fit the description, so they detained until they cleared him. The kid was treated professionally, then let go. That is all you can ask of any Cop. smh You people see everything through your racist goggles. ENOUGH!
