    I think I would have epoxied the wood spacer so the wood wouldn't rot. Nice to have a wind powered auto pilot for sure.

      @Sailing_Aquarius  2 года назад

      Yeah we should have epoxied it. Completely escaped our thoughts at the time

    A very interesting video. I love how you tackled the wind vane. Great to hear there were no leaks and you had a great days sailing.

    Great install of that wind vane thing. I've never been on a boat with one so I can say jack about them but I like the way that one is on the side of the transom.

      Thanks Charles. Yeah thetmy are a great piece of kit. Essential, I think if you want to sail long distance, which is our dream

    Perfect weather for a day trip. And wow, what beautiful surroundings. And thank you for being good role models by wearing your life vests. The inflatable vests are so light and comfortable, so it's really no bother. I've managed to get in my car (twice!) while wearing my life vest because I was in a hurry to get home from a sail trip and forgot I was wearing the vest. 🤣

      Thanks for the comment Thomas. Yeah we really don't like leaving port without a life jacket. Bit genuinely worries us seeing others taking risks by not wearing them. Haha yes I have done the same with the life jacket too. Been off the boat an hour and been in and out of shops before I realise I've still got it on 🤣🤣

    Nice one on the wind vane! Not cheap though.. but total game-changer! I want one.

      Cheers Barry. The South Atlantic wind vane was actually quite reasonable in comparison to others. But yeah expensive piece of kit all the same.

    Great film job
    Looking foward to the tryout. Can this be used as a back up rutter?

    • @Sailing_Aquarius
      @Sailing_Aquarius  2 года назад

      Thanks pal. Unfortunately this model can't be used as an emergency rudder. The pendulum rudder swings side to side and can't be locked off. There maybe some way to modify it though so it cod be used as a rudder 👍

    One Huge problem the Wooden Packer you made you should of Epoxi sealed the face that is meeting the Outer Transom as it will over time absorb water and rot the Sealant will not stop the wood being damaged

    We did consider a windvane, but on sugar-scoop sterns they are a pain.

      Yeah I've seen a video of guys mounting a Windvane on bavaria with sugar scoop and thhad to mount it off centre and just seemed like a nightmare of an installation 😬

    Sorry for asking but much is it to keep your boat in Stratford

    • @Sailing_Aquarius
      @Sailing_Aquarius  Год назад +1

      It really depends where you want to put a mooring. There are places you can put it for the cost of a mooring ie 200 pound. But you'd have to pay a club fee to park a dinghy there unless you want to trailer the dingy. Club fees aren't that expensive on the lough but you'd need to contact the clubs for prices of memberships
