    I upgraded to Renogy Smart batteries (2), a dc-dc charger and MPPT / Solar panels last year.
    Still works fine after a year at sea. The best move I ever made on my boat. Now I can run the toaster, the microwave and lots of other appliances without worrying about my batteries. The lowest SOC I saw was 30% after two days of no sun.
    Definitely a must for serious cruisers. Cheers, Richard

      What a great solution with the mppt dc-dc charger! Lithium batteries are such a game changer, it's been the best year on the boat so far for us running the washing machine, induction cooktop, vacuum cleaner, Brittnis hair dryer, making toast and coffee in the morning. The fact you know your batteries SOC is actually 90% or 30% and not trying to "guess" where the lead acid batteries SOC are at is a huge stress off our shoulders! It's made living on a sailboat so easy and much more convenient!

    Very similar setup to what i am trying to do on my new boat. This has been very helpful thank you :), I think all I need to buy is the dc to dc for a full renogy setup having just ordered a 200ah battery a and the 2000w charge/inverter with renogy 1 wireless hub, I have 2x 100w renogy flexi panels and an older unsed renogy mppt charge controller. I am wanting to add this kit to the existing setup which is 4 old lead batteries, 3x for bow thrusters and 12v and the other for the starter, i assume linked to the alternator and then all linked to a old victron charger to the shore line hook up which turns on the 240v as there doesnt seem to be an inverter i can fined. I also have a mppt with a garbled screen linked to old panels and a wind turbine. I can see from this video how the dc-dc charger is the bit i seem to be needing to finish off before i start installing, Thanks :)

    Excellent job !.. I am thinking about the same system for an RV. Renogy says on their site that the 3000 watt inverter/charger is not capable of Bluetooth. From your diagram It appears as though you plugged the RJ45 Jack on from the Inverter/Charger into the Bluetooth Hub and the Bluetooth Hub into the BT-2. Were you able to get that to work?

    • @SailingSunday
      @SailingSunday  Год назад +2

      You're right, it actually doesn't work correctly with the app as it shows a whole bunch of fault codes, but it still shows all the info, the temperature, DC volts, output Hz etc and shows how many watts and % being used. You just have the annoying faults on screen when you tap on the inverter icon. I want the new Renogy One monitor, I wonder if the software in that fixes it!?

    • @SailingSunday
      @SailingSunday  3 месяца назад

      We had one to put on a few years ago but they had to sit above the solar panels at the back which would shade our panels so we decided to install them.

  • @nigeanddonnassailingadventures

    Sweet video Ryan ...you made it all sound so easy! Your timing is great because were just researching Solar for our new boat.
    Renogy put out some great kit.
    Can you now run your water maker just with Li-battery power or do you still need to run the motor? Just hope we can get this lot delivered to Italy without to many Customs issues!!😀

    • @SailingSunday
      @SailingSunday  Год назад +1

      Our water maker is 220v, so we have to run the generator for it. I think if we weren't such a power hungry boat with the electric winches, electric davits, induction cooktop, air fryer, kettle, toaster, vacuum cleaner, microwave, laptops, cameras etc etc, we could probably run it the water maker off the inverter, but we would still need more solar panels to keep up. We make 100L per hour, so we just run the generator for an hour or so every 2 or 3 days to make water and put about 80-100amps back into the batteries at the same time. With the setup we have and running the generator we don't ever worry about power. Another option for us would be to add another 200w of solar panels to help with the charging during the day, but we need to make water anyway so using the generator doesn't bother us

    • @SailingSunday
      @SailingSunday  Год назад

      Yes definitely, the Rego stuff is another step above, they have perfected all the software with all the bluetooth stuff. So, our Inverter throws a few random error codes on the phone app, even though there are no errors. But its only on the app when I click on the inverter. Everything still works perfectly fine and the BMI still shows the correct wattage coming form the inverter etc which is all i need, but theres just some random bugs in the app that Im 99% sure has been resolved with the Rego gear.

    • @SailingSunday
      @SailingSunday  Год назад

      @@Sailaboat there was a few reasons. First off I didn’t want to have power running through the inverter when running the generator and or connected to shore power mainly because the generator is 5500w, I wasn’t entirely sure if I would be limited to 3000w… Then the inverter has a floating ground, and our generator is bonded (I think that’s what it is called) so I wasn’t entirely sure which way is safer so just wanted to keep the generator completely separate.
