Seeing how Ryan's video presence has improved over the last few years is impressive. From barely wanting to be on camera to this is a massive leap. The intonation and explanations are spot on. Thanks. Find this, as a non techy, easy to follow and very interesting al aided by your presentation. Keep them coming.
Having enough water tankage plus Backup Water Jugs, just in Case, along with Rainwater capture (pretty easy to set up, just let it rain for 15 minutes to wash the dust out of the air, before collecting (then filter it into your water tank), and it really isn't that much of an issue tbh, though it does impose getting a bigger boat to cope with the tankage for water, plus good Reserve of Diesel. That can have a significant benefit as well, as with good tankage positioning, balancing the boat just means moving water between tanks. 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️
This is one of the biggest things I want to do/build/add to ANY boat I get! so I am really looking forward to that! Thank you so much for sharing all this!
Currently installing a DIY water maker on my boat .. last major wish list item before I head south again. It has been a learning process for sure. Knowing where every item is installed and how it functions means it is one less thing I need to worry about when cruising. Pretty confident that I could repair or rebuild one from scratch with parts available almost anywhere.
Love this, longer term review. The replaceability of parts from anywhere is noteworthy for sure. My boat came w a Spectre but it has been pickled since 2016 … I will see how functional it is. Seawater pro is now on my radar. Appreciated!
Nice update. I may get a Seawater Pro Watermaker, if the Boatbuilder will install it for me, but I think they do Spectra, and that stacking High pressure pump that has low electric consumption, may turn out to be not much difference in price as a ew fitment. They also seem to do a nice Washer Dryer, that is vented, that seems to be reliable enough to last well, so am looking forward to your Washer Dryer update as well. In the past, this is the sortnof stuff I used to love DIYing, heck even timber on deck ! (yep I was nuts), but getting stuff fitted during construction has increased its appeal in recent years due to disability. Ho Hum, Keep up the Great Work, Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob - now planning on an Island Packet God Willing, built in F👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️👍👍lorida, to be Registered in the BVI (easy peasy as a British Subject ) and delivered to the BVI for me, to complete the Boat Registration there. Three little words xwung it for the BVI "English-Common-Law"❤ 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️
Thank you for this most timely follow-up review. I am currently installing the 24 Volt, two vessel version of the Sea Water Pro, which we chose based on your initial two videos and I have nothing but positive things to say about the company’s customer service. Like you, I got the no-panel version but decided to create my own for ease of operation. This meant that I needed to change a few parts and even though it’s been about a year since I purchased our unit, the exchange process was painless. I was told to just order what I needed from the website and upon return of whatever I didn’t need, they would credit my credit card the full value of those parts. Questions get answered expeditiously so A+ all around to SeaWater Pro
@@ncampion1 I can’t say. As I mentioned, I am just now installing the unit so no experience with the brushes but I will certainly get a set of spares now that I know about your experience.
Hi Ryan! Great video on water makers. Now I fully understand them. Extremely informative. Thank you. I still can’t believe you guys are my next door neighbors (well, for another week anyway)!
Getting ready to install the Seawater Pro (110v 40gph) system we bought last fall. Appreciate both your install video as well as your 4yr review. Comfortable we made the right choice! s/v Incognito.
I've watched a lot of your videos and others for years. This video was a VERY will produced and animated gem. Well done. I am planning a seawater-to install this fall, but I am doing an AC 2 membrane system because I have a big viltron inverter and a lot of Dakota lithium batteries : )
I'm aiming to go with a seawater Pro watermaker for my next boat. I'm wondering though, have you thought about adding remineralisation filters in the galley, as RO does strip out essential minerals from water ? There do appear to be some nice setups, that have their own Tap outlets for installing by the sink. I think they get advertised as thankless filtration systems, and some can include a RO cartridge as well, though I think I'd stick with a seperate dedicated watermaker then plumb the water from the water tank through a split pipe system, with one of the split heading to the remineralising filters. I'd like to see some non manufacturers reviews before diving into those however. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 🤔👍✨️✨️✨️
Another great video and review I wish I had the same experience with SWP It’s been the most frustrating piece of kit I bought for the boat. Almost a year in and still don’t have it working properly
Excellent choice, any detailed review of your electrical system, how has it performed up to now? Wish safe passages always. Thank you for your great videos.
This was a great review seeing how it has actualy met the test of time. Question would there be any advantage adding a charcole 3rd filter to the main inbound side (mainly thinking of tast)?
I would like the schematics of your Lithium set up as i have a Beneteau Oceanis 40 how you cobine the bow thruster and starting battery for charging thanks
I'm up on Vancouver Island and we get lots of rain, I have a Spectra and I'm going to put a T at the water intake and leave the thru hull Shut and collect water from my dodger and run it thru the water maker. I figure that it's pretty clean water maybe some bird poop once in while but I think that the filters will last a Long time and shouldn't have to run the flush for that long. I'm going to talk to Spectre and see what they say! I would think that you wouldn't have to flush it unless you have used it. Now I've gone many weeks without flushing and I'm gonna have to get a new membrane! That was a great video!
I wanted to say for like 10 amps more per hour you could double your output. 1hp dc motor usually draws 80 amps. You would need a different pump head, motor, and an extra pressure vessel. You could get those on your own for cheap. SV Adventurer did a video called "How to make your own 30 gph water maker." The parts are listed in the more and comments section.
That would be a massive drain on the battery…but, to your point, for a given amount of water, it might be fewer overall amphours. But for shore based, that would be worth the extra effort.
Okay, I finally understand how one of these things work. I have seen all the parts in other videos but never really under stood how they worked together. On average how many gallons do you get before you have to change filters? Does the membrane need periodic replacement or just regular flushing?
Given the number of systems on offshore cruising boats, readily availability of parts is a a must. Although more systems are available for small sailing boats, it seems the reliability and complexity still leave a lot to be desired. Even then fully accessible and replaceable items and services, needs to be incorporated into yacht design and manufacture..
The thing that gets me with these budget diy system reviews (of any category) by sailing channels, many jump at the 8k off the shelf systems when offered by the manufacture, which goes against the pros mentioned in the review, I.e. "easy to obtain parts anywhere"
your referral link doesn't work, the referral portion of the link specifically. YT app on iOS doesn't even allow me to copy the text from the comment to try and fix it
There is one glaring problem. It's too big and discombooberated a fresh water maker. Too complicated. Too breakdowny. Many of your boats who need one are around + - 30 feet. These things have been around for decades, and some of them were hand powered. The most important task is needed drinking water and the most important condition is reliability. A suitcase water maker? It's demands, high tech, and size need to change.
Let's be completely honest here, what happens to the human body if we DON'T consume water!!! There's ur answer, And we can only survive for a few days. So what's the real Cost, u can spend $ when ur dead.

I can't imagine the challenges of NOT having a working water maker. Thanks for explaining it so well

Great video Ryan. I get a lot of good honest practical advice from them. Would love to see a washing machine review.

How is the brush life on your motor? I had to replace mine after only 300 hours. $50 each!

Hi Ryan! Great video on water makers. Now I fully understand them. Extremely informative. Thank you. I still can’t believe you guys are my next door neighbors (well, for another week anyway)!
Excellent job. I am getting ready to install a Seawater Pro dual membrane on our boat. Your explanation makes it all make sense. Thanks Ryan!
How often do you need to change the filters and the RO membrane?

Man that's the best explanation video of water maker I have watched ! Thanks a lot:)
really like these types of technical based videos
Great video. Thank you for this information.

What a Very Well Done Video !!! Three Cheers !!!
Great video. Would definitely get a diy system if I needed one.
Another great video and review
I wish I had the same experience with SWP
It’s been the most frustrating piece of kit I bought for the boat. Almost a year in and still don’t have it working properly
how so?
Same system? What are the issues?
Excellent choice, any detailed review of your electrical system, how has it performed up to now? Wish safe passages always. Thank you for your great videos.
Cool video.. I’ll also love to see a review of how is the whole electrical installl. lithiums, alt, charging, etc
This was a great review seeing how it has actualy met the test of time. Question would there be any advantage adding a charcole 3rd filter to the main inbound side (mainly thinking of tast)?
Perfect... thanks Ryan!
is there a way to have it make water automatically when water tank level falls below a certain level like 1/4 tank?
I would like the schematics of your Lithium set up as i have a Beneteau Oceanis 40 how you cobine the bow thruster and starting battery for charging thanks
Not every person I've met with a spectra has a broken watermaker, but every person I've met with a broken watermaker has a spectra.

Hello,
This is the second video from you that I enjoy. You mentioned a washing machine. Which one did you install?
Thank you
What do you do for a flush when you're on the hard? Do you just plan on replacing the membrane when hauled out?

Any info on the power requirements of this setup?
Okay, I finally understand how one of these things work. I have seen all the parts in other videos but never really under stood how they worked together. On average how many gallons do you get before you have to change filters? Does the membrane need periodic replacement or just regular flushing?
Interesting video. Thanks! Safe travels ❤️
Has the pump given you any issues and did you splurge for the all stainless model?
Nice, appreciate that
How often do you have to replace the filter and/or the reverse osmose filters?
I am also looking forward to an answer to this.
rapidly becoming one of my new favorite channels, so glad I found you.
be great if there was a salt water filter that could be reversed flush - a bit like blowing compressed air thru a car air filter to clean it ??
My only issues is sizing what size membrane what size pump

Very informative video.
I read somewhere that the water from a watermaker doesnt taste good or is lacking in minerals, so that you add tablets to the water. Is that true?
Why not use the "waste" Brine water and put it back into the High Pressure pump? The "brine is already cleaned to 5 microns?
Very cool.....

Timeing of watermakeing: What I try to do is top off the tanks whenever my battries are toped off and solar power is going to waste.
👍
😎
No Sophie? No wonder she double looped the same clip near the end.
i wish a 48V DC pump(s) existed :(
You can DIY for cheaper than sea water pro if you want to, the profit being made by these companies is incredible.
Unfortunately they only ship to a few countries🙄
You might title your video just 'How to make water on your boat' since this works on any boat. In fact houses on islands can use it.
for heaven's sake what's the price you paid?
Follow the link. It can change in the life cycle of a yt video. Today, $3500-3800 for his system (12v or 24v).
Nice video but more like a BIY watermaker.
The use of the term "make water" always amuses me when, after all, the first ingredient is water.
There is one glaring problem. It's too big and discombooberated a fresh water maker. Too complicated. Too breakdowny. Many of your boats who need one are around + - 30 feet. And this cost 4000$😂
I just don’t understand why you call your water maker diy since you bought all the parts from water pro.
