Yes!!! This is the video session I most wanted to see on the Wongnotes album, and was so sad to not see it before! Love seeing everyone play off of each other here! Kevin's solo here gets me every time!
Eddie extensively quoting Bela Fleck! Don’t think we didn’t notice. This is just the jam! Such unity and concentration and love and support for so long. If only all coworkers at all jobs could send these kinds of vibes to each other. The world would be a better place. Also, that snare is so beautifully high and low at the same time- like a punch to the gut in the best possible way.
@@BloomThat It is reminiscent of the first section of "A Celtic Melody" from "Three Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and...another tune I can't put my finger on. And then someone else in the comments, pointed out "Drowsy Maggie", which is an Irish fiddle tune. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong and it was just in the style of! Or maybe a traditional Irish piece or banjo style, but it's the first thing I thought of and it hit me hard. Either way, amazing stuff pulling from around the globe and various instruments.
@@daveedson32 5 months too late. The "Drowsy Maggie" reference is used in the B section of "The Leaning Tower" from "Little Worlds" by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Just spent too much time finding it. Wouldn't be surprised if it is used elsewhere in his works. It is an ancient Irish reel. This is why I love jazz. I just went back in time to figure out where this came from (first transcription I could find was from 1858), all because Eddie decided to plop down an Irish quote in his solo. Now I need to learn a new instrument so I can play it. This reel doesn't lend itself well to brass...
Cory, you are an amazing person. Not only can you play your ass off, you also have the organizational skills, the patience to herd those cats and the drive to make all the other stuff happen. I am totally enjoying the music and all the guys (and girl) you have with you in your band as well as everyone else behind the scenes making it all sound and look spectacular..
Man I just heard this song for the first time yesterday--it came up on an auto playlist while I was mowing the lawn. I just had to stop mowing after I was so blown away. The solos were so damn phenomenal. Love how you can hear some of the musicians reactions from the mic bleed. Feels like a gift to be able to listen to stuff like this for the first time.
Every note of every musician’s performance should be written down so that Cory and his Wongnotes could play it at each venue around the world ! This is my favorite piece from the album, each solo part in here is just so crazy epic !! Goose bumps every time I’m listening to that song. So inspiring lines and tones. Amazing
I just realised that there is no audience so bandleader facing band! Epic key solo. Horns utterly owned it. Jesus wept Cory you have excelled. Oh my gosh. This is incredible.
Hah, Sugar Plum Fairies on the keyboard about 2 and a half minutes in - and then on sax again at about 5 minutes. Now Scheherazade! Love the orchestral funk groove!
One of the best composition I have heard this year! You and the band enter now in the world of the best famous musicians, like Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock..have done years ago.. you're the next generation of talented musicians🙏🎸🥂
Cory lays it deep with Petar & Sonny as the band ride on the surf of groove. Great music is made with great company. such love and respect within the band. love this
Very cool...Really enjoying the creativity of Cory Wong and the band...Notice at least 2 band folks also play in Jon Baptiste's "Stay Human" band on Colbert's Late Show.
After hearing Petar say Lee is one of the hardest to play, splitting them up may be accidental on Coach Wong's part, or it's a long-term joke. You guys are incredible.
This is the only song ever named after a person that i really wanted to know who the person was. Like, what the fuck did Lee do to you? Was he a scumbag? Was he the best person you ever knew? Did he try to kill you? Did he save your life? What did lee do to you?
I interpreted it as an homage to Herbie Hancock's chameLEon. Sounds a lot like a Herbie Hancock track with the keyboard solo. Thats just how I get the name in my mind.

Here it's slowed down and it almost sounds like an Arabic tune, but IMO this is a very popular lick used in Irish folk tunes. It's typically played by fiddles, pipes and such. Perhaps a small tribute to The Chieftains and late Paddy Moloney?
Yes, I think it's just one of the standard reels. My first thought was one of the sets that Solas did on their first couple albums, but oh well I wouldn't remember the name of that specific tune anyway.
A lefty bassist and drummer. When do you see that? It warms my lefty heart. Although, I don't really see why anyone bothers with a left-handed drum setup. It really doesn't accomplish anything.

Kevin Gastonguay is a barbarian with his keys, I like it so much.
He is genuinely cracked out I've never seen anyone play like he does
The best part is the other musicians facial expressions as others are soloing. Seems like a great band to be a member of.
