    In addition to what Karl said about Japanese intros going so hard.
    A lot of Japanese anime are made for, or funded by the TV networks in Japan who just so happen to also own a lot of the major record labels in Japan. So they have wide access to all these bands with upcoming albums to choose from, and because of this they get both cross promotion, but in addition the company gets to produce it at a fraction of what it would cost for a network in the UK or US to do the same with a named band.

    I didn't know about his other origin for his powers where he absorbed ambient energy. That would actually make him way better because he could endure things like energy attacks like bishop. It would also make more sense for his brothers who have similar absorption abilities so it would line up better why they would be resistant to those.

    • @oldeskul
      @oldeskul Год назад +27

      It was originally that his body absorbed solar radiation. He could use his powers at night, though they were diminished because some solar radiation was always reaching the surface of the Earth. His powers would only be rendered useless when he was deep underground or in a shielded room where no solar radiation could reach him.
      It was also explained in the comic why he couldn't control his powers. He suffered brain damage as a boy when he was forced to strap a parachute to himself and his brother Alex when the plane that they were flying in with their parents severely malfunctioned and were forced to bail out of. The parachute strap slammed into the side of his head, which caused serious brain damage and a blood clot. The surgery to save his life also removed a portion of his brain and severely limited his ability to control his powers. As a result his powers would always go at full force without the assistance of the special ruby quartz lenses.
      Alex Summers, whose code name is Havok, can fire kinetic blasts from his hands and he has much finer control of his powers. For a time Havok was the leader of the U.S. government-backed mutant team, X-Factor.

    • @DreamStepper
      @DreamStepper Год назад +5

      @@oldeskul Honestly the original reason he can't control his powers is pretty stupid. In a world with super genius tech experts, geneticists, telepaths, mutant healing abilities, and magic Cyclops never learned to control his powers because of a concussion of all things? I really think the writers are super lazy with the character.

    • @oldeskul
      @oldeskul Год назад +14

      @@DreamStepper It was more than just a concussion. A concussion is caused when your brain gets jostled around inside your cranium, bangs against the inside of your skull and causes some swelling. What Scott suffered was more serious than that.
      Of course Forge did develop some tech that had the ability to completely mitigate Cyclops' powers. Of course he also an energy pistol that could temporarily switch off Rogue's power. The lazy writing was Xavier knowing that could help Cyclops and Rogue control their powers and not reach out to ask for their help.

    • @DreamStepper
      @DreamStepper Год назад +3

      My point is that plenty of mutants have recovered from worse. In the current storyline Cyclops had his mind transferred to a cloned body which in theory should've given him total control of his powers if the writers are paying heed to the origin.

    That's an interesting comparison: Who's cooler between Cyclops and Wolverine, based on their powers. It reminds me of a question I went around asking people in college: Which is the more impressive creation, between the TARDIS and the Delorean? I say that the Delorean is a vastly more impressive creation, because it was created by a random human scientist, in his garrage, while the TARDIS was created by the construction division of a race of aliens that have reached the far end of their technological curve; You would expect a civilization like that to have technology like that, so the fact that they do isn't really that noteworthy. The Delorean was created based on a dream an old guy had, after he hit his head; The fact that he got any kind of working product is totally mind blowing. The situation with Wolverine and Cyclops is similar; Cyclops is cooler, because he has to deal with more limitations. Wolverine is never going to die, so there's significantly reduced risk to him, compared to Cyclops. If Wolverine succeeds at something, it's not impressive because I didn't seriously think there was any real chance of his failure. When Cyclops succeeds at something, I think it's a more impressive feat, because the deck wasn't completely stacked in his favor.

    The problem with their explanation of why he is so good with his powers is that it negates the learning curve that he had in the comics. The X-Men were training constantly in the "danger room" for hours on end to hone their powers both individually and as a team. Cyclops was professor Xavier's first recruit as a teen.
    With all the training and then having to adapt when facing new enemies it would only be natural for Scott to have an awareness of how his powers worked. As for him being a square. He was essentially groomed to be the leader of the X-Men, and he was also afraid to lose self control because of the need to be constantly in control of his eye beams so as not to hurt anyone.

    Most depictions of speedster power shows them moving at normal speed and everyone else moving very slowly or not at all. That doesn't necessitate that they have super reflexes too. Their power could actually being manipulation of special relativity/time, so that the things they do just looks like it's super fast.
    That explanation also solves the problem with the people/things they save not just immediately being smashed into dust, as there isn't an infinite amount of energy zooming through them, it's just a normal amount going quickly through time.

    Scotts eyes are actually portals to the dimension of cytorok or whatever juggernauts god lives in. Both are beings of force, one channels it physically the other through his eyes.

    23:40 So, from my Taiwanese, ex-Japanese occupied region, understanding, it's less that it's popular thing to do and more that a) a lot of modern words in Japanese were adopted from English. Cup, lamp, radio ( カップ、ランプ、ラジオ), etc. b) Rock and roll is an American thing. So words like "shock" (used a lot in the 80's and 90's) are breaking the mold and, hence, has a lot more impact as well as more in line with the style of music. And... yeah, it was kind of the "cool kid" thing to put English words into songs.

    Those "monsters" were the Brood. Although I am unsure if they fought them in the cartoon (been so long I cant remember) they have fought them many times in the comic. The stab you like a bee and inject you with DNA altering substance that turns you into one of them.

    As far as rad intro songs go: Cautionary Warning. An anime called The Legend of Black Heaven, about saving the world with the power of rock, fittingly went hard for it's opening. They hired John Sykes, who has been part of Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake. Specifically, he was with Whitesnake for their self-titled album, which apparently went octuple-platinum.

    Hmmm... I could be making a jump here, but, I think his energy could be being harvested directly from the realm of "Cittorrak", who empowers The Unstoppable Juggernaut (sorry, I probably horribly misspelled that name). Red energy energy from another universe which is a Concept of strength made physical. There's other examples of mutants( like Wanda with the existential chaos aspect access), who's ability is basically to have access to some existential building block, domain, or aspect of their universe that's beyond their mortal realm. Like a Uber cheat code.
