Watching the original scooby-doo reruns at 9pm on a school-night is a core memory from my childhood. Tired as heck, but just feeling the comfort of watching a group of friends solving mysteries and helping people. Any form of character-assassination like turning the group mean, is too much for me. I fully subscribe to the superman-thesis you put forth. Keep the character, alter the details. Or develop the character, either towards the familiar, or from it. But never be so disconnected as to have written a new set of characters, because then it no longer deserves to carry the same name.
I was one of the original.Scooby Doo fans (and admit that 9-year-old me instantly got a crush on Velma) . When my children were watching Scooby Doo when they were small, my Wife pointed out that the original couple of series were very comforting to little children. The plot was predictable and they always proved that the "supernatural creature" was just someone in a suit. To be honest, I was initially quite upset by later iterations in which the supernatural elements were real. It seemed to fly in the face of the main point of the series. Then again, the original series was aimed at very small children whereas some of the later ones, including the movies, were aimed at a slightly older audience.
I think quite a few kids had a crush on Velma, myself and my partner included. To your main point, I honestly can't remember seeing a single episode where the "supernatural creature" was ever anything but a human in a suit, though having seen the early 2000's movies, I'm not entirely surprised about there being some actual supernatural stuff going on. The main point from all actual Scooby Doo media, for me, anyway, is teamwork is important. You can't do everything alone. You might be good at one thing, and your teammates can be good at other things, but together, anything is possible. And with the original show's baddies always being human, it showed that there's always a real, logical explanation for everything. Which is something that needs to be taught more today.
I've seen Simple Plan a couple months ago opening for an Offspring concert. Had no idea who they were until they started playing What's New Scooby Doo live on stage. Made my week.
I’ve wanted an adult version of a lot of shows but scooby doo was never one of them. But my biggest issue was the fact that it didn’t have scooby in it.

To add to Karl's wonderful explanation of Red Sun Superman. He lands in Soviet Ukraine which has been described as the Kansas to the USSR. And its still a married farm couple who can't have kids of their own that set the core that we always know as Superman.
Yeah as long as the core of the character is the same then changing the other details don't matter. I mean hey look at Sunshine Superman from that world where Earth is stuck in the 60s. Or when they remade president Superman to be a black kid from the Bronx.
No one ever talks about he Scooby Doo movie with Tim Conway where they run an college track including hurdles, high dive, and pole vault in about 15 seconds. 400 meters is one lap. 100 m record 9.63 sec (23 mph), 110m hurdle record is 12:20 (20.5 mph). With those combined they are going about 31 mph while dodging obstacles. And they said about 35 mph to keep up with a great dane so surprisingly consistent. This was fun.
Honestly I never knew Shaggy was a vegetarian, partly because whenever I think of him eating I think of the one time he made a ham sandwich through means that can only be described supernaturally.
A part of me does wonder if they would ever have the in-universe moment where Shaggy first started doing the vegetarian diet as a reference to the early days where Shaggy wasn't one tbh
F is for family is actually really good, it covers some deeper themes about traditional gender roles, an abusive dad trying to be a better person, and the changing dynamic with mother in the 80s looking for deeper meaning outside of house work that has been increasingly automized away.
In season 1 episode 5 of Scooby Doo, Where Are You! 'Decoy for Dognapper' Shaggy is roasting 3 sausages on a beach. He does not eat them on screen - and one could argue they were for Velma, Daphne, and Fred. But that isn't shown in any way either.
the "Ultra Instinct Shaggy" actually originated from a series of videos that were parodies of Dragonball tier lists in 2017. It starts off normal then it starts listing off ludicrous power levels, and then it throws in characters like Rolf from Ed Edd n Eddy. Near the top the guy puts "Shaggy Blanco" because of he defeats "Cell Dorado". Its meant to be a jab at the latin dragonball community and their perpensity to just make up shit because it sounds hype. It's a good watch and it predates the shaggy meme by a bit. Its made by a guy called Joe Capo
At the risk of sounding to close to those racist babies that can't handle their favourite character being shaded darker, I was definitely skeptical when I heard they had made Shaggy black. Alot of Shaggy's core personality traits are cute/funny when given to a white dude, but swing waaay to close to a racist stereotype when given to a black guy. Probably why they had to change literally every aspect of his character when they made him "Norville".
Red Son Superman is so good because it's truly Superman. He believes whole heartedly that what's he's doing Is right and once he believes it's wrong he instantly uses his teachings to kill Stalin.
I don't know if you guys know, but here's a fun fact. Warner Bros made a movie called Scooby Doo and Krypto Too! A second direct to video crossover between the Scooby Gang and the DC universe as its spent with them trying to figure out the mystery of where the justice league has gone and who disappeared them. Fully voiced, animated, everything. They even brought Matthew Lillard to voice Shaggy. Then they scrapped it and threw it in the bin as a tax write off, but some mad bastard leaked it and now its floating around the internet. It's classic, great, good scooby doo and dc fun with great bits of humor(like Velma being unrecognizable/a different person without her glasses) and Fred being madly in love with Harley Quinn. Was a great movie that Warner scrapped because...???? But seeing the OG mystery van, the gang, and even scooby, literally made me ECSTATIC after seeing the dumpster fire that is Velma.
I could be mistaken but I always thought the super Saiyan shaggy thing came from an episode of the cartoon where shaggy took on a biker gang and kicked all their butts
Yeah the characters in Velma or not characters from Scooby-Doo. It's just someone's hit show with a thin veneer tomorrow come up as if they were Scooby-Doo characters.
My favorite interview meme is a toss up between "the acting feels like a porn movie because it was until shaggy changed it to protect the youth of america" and Velma's actress saying Shaggy formed her from matter to play the role.
Cas did, but Shaggy was shocked it was broken in the first place "What? That's not -- I have jumped out of a biplane in a museum and was fine! How did thus happen?!"
Shaggy constantly runs away with Scooby because although he is able to infuse limited doses of his otherworldly abilities to him (even allowing him to share his trademark SWOOCE maneuver), he will never be able to impart the full extent of his power to his animal friend, he therefore always acts as if frightened and in retreat mode so as to always be by his companion's side for protection. It is truly a noble act for a being such as he.
Holy hockey sticks after he, I actually remember the fact that Joseph getting taller in KotH but I never understood why that was important/“bad” for the show because I did not watch often enough to appreciate the show/who it was from. I wish/predict that this is potentially why Mike wanted to do a “futuristic” King of the Hill series. More realistic though, I want them to continue Daria though.
I thought Ultra Instinct shaggy started with Scooby Doo! The Legend of Phantosaur where he gets hypnotized into being brave and he goes full legend because the video of him beating up the bikers went viral around the same time ultra instinct came out so people edited him having the ultra instinct aura AND THEN the interview captions came out. I guess the timeline is all mixed up for me.
“[Great Danes] are proud, tall dogs with a straight back and a noble profile” lmaoooooo not my Dane hahaha. She’s the biggest dork you’ve ever met, and I love her to pieces lol. She is about 140 pounds tho lol.
Meme characters are inherently gods lol.. As for DBZ/Super they point out occasionally that if the characters like Goku or Krillain drop their guard they can be hurt by traditional means, so everyone in the universe can likely die to normal means if they are caught be surprise. (Both Krillain and Goku get shot with guard down and get hurt.)
Honestly i find it hilarious how people took a lot of the problems with velma removed fred being a jerk , linked it back to the originals and made a legit interesting premise with the concepts with skits that were 3x shorter the One episode

The name is pronounced Casey Case-Em.
the "Ultra Instinct Shaggy" actually originated from a series of videos that were parodies of Dragonball tier lists in 2017.
"And a slug of chocolate syrup.."
SCOOBY, NOOOOOO
It's amazing how The Velma Show became so disliked by everyone. I wonder what this fórmula is
It just the perfect combination of actual bad writing and rage bait for internet complainmen
I miss the Legend. Counting down was so much fun. If it was song or the new year something about that guy just made counting better.
That’s a lot of words to say, apparently his race was important to the interpretation to his character.
22:02 this is why a lot of people hate injustice as it stripped superman of his code and made him a super evil dictator
I love the fact that they call Scooby Doo innocent piece of media, HAVE YOU SEEN REDDIT PICTURES OF VELMA?
Unrealistically powerful, I present popeye
Yeah the characters in Velma or not characters from Scooby-Doo. It's just someone's hit show with a thin veneer tomorrow come up as if they were Scooby-Doo characters.
My favorite interview meme is a toss up between "the acting feels like a porn movie because it was until shaggy changed it to protect the youth of america" and Velma's actress saying Shaggy formed her from matter to play the role.
Doesnt Shaggy heal his broken arm in ScoobyNatural. Or did Cas do that??
Cas did, but Shaggy was shocked it was broken in the first place "What? That's not -- I have jumped out of a biplane in a museum and was fine! How did thus happen?!"
@@smith22041 that is right!
Btw, you couldve changed everybodys names in Velma & nobody would even realize it was a Scooby-Doo show
Be cool Scooby Doo was a good incarnation of the show, very funny.
Now I just want to see a Marvel style power breakdown of the Scooby-Doo characters, you know Velma and Scooby are Avenger Level Threats
Shaggy did eat straight Gator burger in Mystery inc in that one episode, if I remember correctly
9:32 It is like Ron Stoppable in Kim Possible when Ron becomes Evil
i always sorta assumed that the reason goku seems to be hurt when bulma hits him, is cause he isnt using his Ki when not in battle.
I can’t believe they never brought up the Scooby doo Supernatural crossover
“[Great Danes] are proud, tall dogs with a straight back and a noble profile” lmaoooooo not my Dane hahaha. She’s the biggest dork you’ve ever met, and I love her to pieces lol. She is about 140 pounds tho lol.
As an aside, you should do a video on Casey’s wife and the shenanigans with his body after he passed.
14:31 I can't unhear "swooce"
Meme characters are inherently gods lol.. As for DBZ/Super they point out occasionally that if the characters like Goku or Krillain drop their guard they can be hurt by traditional means, so everyone in the universe can likely die to normal means if they are caught be surprise. (Both Krillain and Goku get shot with guard down and get hurt.)
I'd hate to be that guy, so I won't. love the video been waiting for this topic
0:07 I don't think that's really a secret
I really like 9:30 because it feels like something a god would do to flex on a mortal for mocking their stature.
Shaggy is a vegetarian. Meanwhile eating a sandwich with a ton of different meat. Holds about as much water as a damn made of paper
We gonna forget the crawfish boil in zombie island?
Well, that was Scott Innes as Shaggy, not Kasem. That was during that period where Kasem left because they wouldn't make Shaggy a vegetarian.
@@camerondodge2070 hmmm. Guess he wasn't missed
Honestly i find it hilarious how people took a lot of the problems with velma removed fred being a jerk , linked it back to the originals and made a legit interesting premise with the concepts with skits that were 3x shorter the One episode
Shaggy being vegetarian doesn't make any sense, Scooby being a dog has to eat meat and they always eat the same thing together, even scooby snacks.
If you want one of the most unrealistically powerful characters ever, go to Sun Wukong. He's got more immortality than dragons in Dark Souls and about as much gear as Link.
The shaggy bar fight scene in the film with the hologram dinosaurs is a top 10 ever fight scene
Edit: its Scooby Doo legend of the phantasore
