Storm chasers intercept CATEGORY 5 BLIZZARD in Buffalo with icy storm surge, 80 mph winds

  • What do you think about assigning #blizzards categories based on severity? If they are named, I believe a category would provide more useful info to the public. Great idea brought up by @WxChasing . This was a category 5 blizzard in Buffalo. Likely the first one I have chased.
Blizzard conditions persisted at Buffalo Airport for 92 hours, winds gusted over 80 mph, and a dangerous icy storm surge flooded the downwind coast line of Lake Erie. This was one of the most dangerous storms I have ever chased. If you get separated from a structure or your gear, the storm is not survivable.
Sadly over 50 fatalities have been reported from this storm.

I'm in Sydney Australia and right now it is 29 degrees C and will reach 30 degrees Celcius by
2.00 p.m. this afternoon. I'm gob- smacked at the weather you have been covering, especially the restaurant on the walkway that was covered in icicles. How surreal was that. Please stay safe, stay well, and most of all stay warm when you can. Chicken soup 🍲 😋 is the best. My prayers are for all who have lost a family member in this Arctic blast and for family members who lost a family member trapped in their vehicle who did not receive safe retrieval in time from their vehicle. @PeaceIsYeshua Will you please keep your religious beliefs to yourself!! Just because Buffalo had a 1 in a hundred year blizzard doesn't mean The Rapture is coming or Armageddon or the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. If anything it means climate change is happening faster than scientists thought. The Polar Vortex is part of the jet stream that used to just swirl around the Artic and upper parts of Canada. But in the last few years it has been dropping way below normal into the United States and it is causing havoc like this Buffalo Blizzard. I respect your religious beliefs but you and people with your religious beliefs are scaring people and making it worse.

I fully support the idea of adding categories to blizzards because we do it with hurricanes. For example A category 1 blizzard would be something like 1 foot of snow in some spots with very isolated spots of ice and some gust exceeding 60MPH but mostly winds under 40MPH

    • @johndaniels7609
