- What do you think about assigning #blizzards categories based on severity? If they are named, I believe a category would provide more useful info to the public. Great idea brought up by @WxChasing . This was a category 5 blizzard in Buffalo. Likely the first one I have chased.
Blizzard conditions persisted at Buffalo Airport for 92 hours, winds gusted over 80 mph, and a dangerous icy storm surge flooded the downwind coast line of Lake Erie. This was one of the most dangerous storms I have ever chased. If you get separated from a structure or your gear, the storm is not survivable.
Sadly over 50 fatalities have been reported from this storm.
Reed is the only person that I know that goes from chasing tornados to chasing hurricanes to blizzard hurricanes dumping feet of snow within just a few weeks
Reed's the best. Dude's a national treasure.
Somebody has to do it.
REALLY? I could name 1000's that do this daily fyi
Dude I respect what you do and video is a big part of understanding and studying these massive deadly storms! Now with that being said your crazy I assume your vehicle or some of shelter is nearby like you said if you get separated from it your ass is grass!
@@beesmonk always one of you assholes huh.
Today we got our first break from the snow! 8-12 more inches tonight which seems like nothing at this point. Thank you for being here Reed!! The videos are spot on💨
Sheesh. Still ongoing? Yikes! How many days now? Our blast of this along Lake Superior ended 2 days ago. Almost dug out here where I live (no snow blower like my neighbors, just a big scoop). Guess we got lucky.
@@williebeamish5879 It started Friday morning like a switch was flipped at 7:55 AM then all hell broke loose. This was a bad one. Just started snowing again, but no wind thank God
I'm in Sydney Australia and right now it is 29 degrees C and will reach 30 degrees Celcius by
2.00 p.m. this afternoon. I'm gob- smacked at the weather you have been covering, especially the restaurant on the walkway that was covered in icicles. How surreal was that. Please stay safe, stay well, and most of all stay warm when you can. Chicken soup 🍲 😋 is the best. My prayers are for all who have lost a family member in this Arctic blast and for family members who lost a family member trapped in their vehicle who did not receive safe retrieval in time from their vehicle. For those who continue to be safe and warm, Praise be to God. Thankyou Reed for your hard work, and taking the risks you have to give us amazing footage. A blessed New Year to you 2023.
This is award winning footage, Reed! Epic storm, epic coverage! You are an absolute Angel to have selfishly endured what you did, to show the world what happened in Buffalo! May God bless you!
Born and raised in Buffalo…
I thank you! 🙏😘🕯️✝️🕊️
2nd coming of Christ….lol You should know better….not our first snow rodeo.
You mean selflessly
@@funkster007
I knew what she meant, and thanks for letting us know you did too!

She didn’t say anything about the 2nd coming, but I do believe He’s coming soon!!! The end times biblical prophecies are all coming together. If even a small part of you is open minded, please seek God and look into what’s going on. He’s coming soon!! 🙌🏻🕊
@PeaceIsYeshua Will you please keep your religious beliefs to yourself!! Just because Buffalo had a 1 in a hundred year blizzard doesn't mean The Rapture is coming or Armageddon or the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. If anything it means climate change is happening faster than scientists thought. The Polar Vortex is part of the jet stream that used to just swirl around the Artic and upper parts of Canada. But in the last few years it has been dropping way below normal into the United States and it is causing havoc like this Buffalo Blizzard. I respect your religious beliefs but you and people with your religious beliefs are scaring people and making it worse.
Reed, you have outdone everyone. Even Cantore! Thanks for the great content. Numbers don't matter when it's that cold.
Reed is a madman! But seriously, thank you for being passionate about the weather!
Praying for All affected by this horrific Storm🥶 blizzard 🙏
I fully support the idea of adding categories to blizzards because we do it with hurricanes. For example A category 1 blizzard would be something like 1 foot of snow in some spots with very isolated spots of ice and some gust exceeding 60MPH but mostly winds under 40MPH
That would seem to be worse than a category 1. 60 mph wind gusts are pretty bad. Especially if it's zero out.
@@johndaniels7609 that would be isolated gust the main winds would be like 40MPH or below
That's the Buffalo I remember. I moved to Tucson 30 years ago and I don't miss the weather. It was 79 on my patio today and I love it. I hope the people of Buffalo do OK. They are tough and I'm sure they will. Looks like the only transportation is the snowmobile....my tool of choice for blizzards. We used to make runs to the store for people who were unprepared..LOL. IF they were open.
@@173jaSon371 speak for yourself. I live near Buffalo and I'll take 79 all year long.
Mother nature is definitely taking 2022 out with a bang of all types of weather scenes. Much love to you Dr Reed Timmer for putting yourself in the middle of the zone. Praying everyone is safe 🙏 ❤.
Now just wait to the 50 degrees they are forecasting for this wkend
Its gonna be an epic flood
Reed... Very glad you got to witness a Lake Erie seiche. Definitely a crazy event. BTW- my trucks starter died on christmas morning...I replaced it in my driveway this morning. WNY Strong!!!! ( West Seneca)
Looks almost post-apocalyptic
People think our winters are bad here in Alaska...and they are sometimes. But I have never experienced anything like this. Can just feel that bone chilling cold. Prayers to all. Stay safe. My heart really goes out to you.
I've lived in Iowa most of my life and have only twice experienced that kind of intense cold, in '83 and '96. Here in Des Moines we got minimal snow but astonishingly had wind-chill of -35 or lower for over 30 consecutive hours. To put that in perspective, prior to this storm over the previous 10 years COMBINED Des Moines only had a total of 27 hours of wind chill -35 or lower. Whoa.
Wow Reed! Excellent video footage! Although the blizzard was bad, the sights of everything encapsulated in ice was beautiful to see. Thanks for covering this and posting this video! 😀👍
This is crazy this is only 3 minutes away from where I live and I never know this happened. TY for the update, Reed
Question..can you leave your homes now or are the roads blocked by police?
@@terriheaven2798 Yeah we can
I always super appreciate your help! I have family in NY and Wisconsin that always seems to present either CraZy blizzards or even tornadoes, the latter more so in Wisconsin. Yet since my youth there have been an increase of tornadoes/ super damaging winds in NY. One of my proms way back even cancelled. I hope and pray that you stay healthy and well! And hopefully come by some goggles, poles and cleats for your next trip to the frigid North! 🙏 You are a national treasure! No doubt there! God Bless You Dr Reed Timmer to keep chasing and helping so many people!
Brightest Blessings! ☺️✌️❤️🦋🙏
I didn't even know they had tornadoes that far north! Just crazy!!!
@@springfauna1465 Oh Yes! Wisconsin worst than NY. In the '80's an entire town was wiped out! Barneville WI.
@@trudy285 Worse than NY?? I grew up in upstate NY and never saw or heard of one. Where in NY?
@@springfauna1465 Cheektowaga's had 2. 1987 Destroyed the Holliday Showcase restaurant and Put-put golf corse and arcade. Pretty well known locally. The casino in Hamburg just had 1 5 years ago also.
@@steveoshei1819 Oh wow!!! Yeah, this weather is just crazy everywhere now!! Stay safe and HNY to you!!
Thank you for capturing this epic storm! So many RUclips channels are stealing your footage!!
A news outlet here in Australia had footage of Reed out there. Didn't see a credit mark or anything >:(
@@andrewyoung3299 there are soo many weather channels that stole his footage and did not credit him. I chewed them out in their live chats. Really petty of them.
Good on you! If credited right, Reed would be making thousands of dollars per chase!
Who would've ever imagined flash frozen surge icicle homes by the lake ?
That one house gets it all the time. Every year its iced over.
@@TD_JR Yes maybe the people who live around there probably would expect that .Good point.
I would be happy with a few minutes of video coverage and the rest of the commentary from someplace warm and safe for Reed. This guy is serious about his job.
Reed God bless you for rescuing those women. You’re a blessing! Amazing footage incredible storm. Stay safe!
I was wondering how you were walking and then I see your feet and realize you’re not! I seriously don’t know how you do what you do but I really appreciate it. Great video!
I don’t think it’s possible to overstate how incredibly brave Reed is to not just put himself in these very dangerous situations but to be there to help rescue anyone he can. Those people wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for you Reed. God bless you for being the wild adventurous person you are ❤🙏🏻Never stop chasing and never stop being you Reed!
Unbelievable footage... wouldn't have believed it unless you had filmed it..... thankyou for going above and beyond for your peeps during this historical Christmas holiday season
Always good reporting. Please stay safe Mr. Reed. I have never seen such Ice wowow!
Strong work, Reed! I've lived in Iowa most of my life and I have only twice experienced that kind of teeth-rattling, bone-chilling cold, in '83 and '96.
I like the Category idea.. the loss of life is heartbreaking.
Praying for all the families effected.
how is it possible for you to be out in these blizzards and capture these videos
amazing
North towns usually get missed by the big stuff. This time around Amherst got nailed big time. Snow is up to my trunk and windshield while backyard has drifts up to 10ft high
Wow. Thank you for the coverage 🙏 🙌.
How the hell did you keep your camera lens clean while recording all this amazing blizzard footage???
That’s one durable device used to record this video, and the sounds are very asmr-tic! I dozed off a little during the video!🤣
Thanks Reed, you seriously enjoy what you do to put yourself through the moments for us!
I hate the sound of wind and I am an ASMR junkie. It’s grating and terrifying at the same time to me. Overall I hate wind period!
This is incredible
I have been watching over a year and commenting here and there while on the live chase. Reed you are the world's premier storm chaser!!! Just always take tons of survival gear with you and be careful always
Thank you Reed! Dominated that blizzard and helped people out!!!!
This is how you LIVE. Great footage, Reed.
I work in the City and live in the South towns. That is a rare sight in the City, for sure. Nice content, Reed, and thanks for coming in town. I threw you a little something your way to support your great work. Here's to hoping we don't see you in town for a long time, unless it's pleasure. :)
This is a rare sight anywhere on earth! Maybe Antarctica?
@@steveoshei1819 Supposedy in some parts of Siberia this is normal. Just another winter day to them.
Absolutely insane blizzard! And a blizzard is already insane in itself lol. I'm amazed how you were able to film some amazing footage of it! Absolute kudos to you 🙏🏼
Reed. I am thankful that you have your obsession with extremely extreme weather. I find your videos entertaining and educational. Thank You Reed !
Lol its crazy we havent lost power. I've just been chillin inside cozy, smokin js, and watching youtube
Reed thank you for going through all you had to endure during this blizzard. Have you been able to get out and see your family? Thanks for all you do. Bless you man! Be careful my friend.
Reed, you are literally my hero man.
My son lives in Buffalo and Thank God he's safe! This is unbelievable!!! May God be with Everyone affected by this massive storm
Here in the south , we would call that a category 1 Hurricane blowing 80 miles an hour winds of snow .
I feel seasick just watching this. Those waves are insane. Take Care!
Wormholes in space are like space tornados 🌪. In the next life Reed will be in space chasing wormholes 💪🏻🤘🏻🌀
Awesome footage. You did great!
Incredible!
Thats incredible! id love to have all that snow! stay safe dude that storm is just insane!
Unbelievable! Thanks for the video. Take care of yourself.
The best footage so far
I love the idea that blizzards should have categories! People in Buffalo underestimate the seriousness of these storms. If there were categories, many more lives could be saved as people would understand how dangerous it would be to drive. The problem is that EVERY snowstorm/ blizzard is handled the same way. Would the category be dependent on wind speed, like hurricanes?😊
I would suggest wind speed, snowfall rates ,visibility and duration. This storm had 80 mph max, 4" per/ hr snowfall rates and 0 visibility for 24 hrs +. Truly a maximum event!
Reed, kamu bule gila. Thank you for being passionate with this killer icy storm.
Reed, I don't know who's the greater Beast...you, or the storm! Be safe! A fan from Buffalo...
Thanks
Right off camera was Rudolph leading Reed around ...
Nice job Reed!
Thanks for intercepting the storm Reed, were not for u we don't know what we would do up here in Canada eh'
Good stuff, Reed !
What a wild one man! 😳 Bravo. 👏
love ya Reed Timmer,be safe at what you do
Let's hope this gets rated because this is very historical
It was at peak conditions for over 24 hrs! I've witnessed conditions like this in Buffalo but not for this long of duration
@@steveoshei1819 dang I feel the only other storm to do this is maybe Typhoon Tip
Best footage ever
Reed happy new year dude!
I love the categories for winter storms. Trimmers been on point the last 2 years. Never stops chasin
Dang man! You should get yourself some crampons to keep on hand for winter chases, or at least some microspikes might be a help
Awesome video❄👍
You saved many lives!!
I love your videos!
Thank you Reed Timmer for coming to our neck of the woods to show our extreme weather.
5:04 Imagine a person had balled up to wait out the storm and that was them encased in ice.
The 7feet the city got a month ago was crazy but this one takes the cake.... we can deal with snow but that wind with the snow is insane...
That melted real quick though. Just like this one will. Warmer weather starts tmrw and will last all least 10 days or so.
He's like the Crocodile Hunter of weather!
You need some of those metal shoe sandals that attach to boots, the ones that have carbon steel studs on the bottom. Then you can walk right across that ice.
I’m actually surprised he wasn’t wearing those. I wear ice cleats just to avoid “skating” down my icy driveway.
@@ajvintage9579 Yeah, maybe he just needs to fall a few more times. With all the snow in the Buffalo area, the ice from melting then refreezing in the eve spouting will have him crawling everywhere. 😂
Be safe. God help all those affected by this horrible storm.
This man is a national treasure! Reed Timmer for president!
Wow that is insane.
That's why the great lakes have taken so many. Look at the power!
I live in Quebec and when I see snow storm I tell myself... SO ?. This time I admit it chocked me to see the frozen structures. Although it is very bad weather, it is so beautiful
You are crazy as hell lol. I love it.
Please be careful out there !!! 🙏👋
Pray for the elderly.
The beginning of the video looks like the eyewall of a hurricane.
Nice..Reed
Reed, being a hero might not be the best idea. Safely head home. 💛🇨🇦
We need to get Reed a 4x4 truck with a plow if he’s going to keep covering these winter weather events.
When you can't see only a few feet in front of you from the snow it's called a white out
I have no idea how you can stand that. 😳 Ouch !
Way too cool. I'm jelous love storm chasing
Holy schnikes......that's brutal
West Seneca here. An insane winter so far.
I used to play in - °85 all the time and loved it and if my motorcycle started i would drive it
you have some prize winning stills....
Makes the planet Hoth look like a sunny paradise. 😎
In my 40yrs here I've never heard a blizzard classified as a category anything.
We need more of these events in Buffalo. That's one way to get people to move outta here. Traffic's been a lil too congested for my liking over the last decade or so..
these are one of the only times i can justify naming winter storms
enjoy winter,,,stay safe
