    I grew up in Western NY and was 11 years old during the Blizzard of 77.
    It is something that I will never forget. When you are a kid you have no fear of these blizzards, you get days off of school and just want to go outside with your friends. As an adult you clearly see how dangerous they truly are. Stay safe and warm and thank you for helping others.

      People froze to death in their cars on the 33 by Harlem road. They're being found today. That's the absolute worst part of the turnpike. As you probably know, it always gets jammed during snowstorms. But this was a cyclone.

      Many people watching these videos are all "it's winter." " I survived walking to school in snow up to my" blah, blah blah.
      Nobody has to tell me it's winter.I grew up in Me.
      It's the severity of the storms that's concerning.🥺

      Literally crying 😭😭😭 I love Reed so fkn much. That’s not the first.. second.. third.. EVEN FOURTH time I have seen Reed rescue someone in a weather event 🥺 he’s doing it constantly! Putting his own self at risk to help others. Yes, he puts his own self at risk anyways 🤣 but he’s beyond a professional. We had a blizzard here in Iowa with non stop strong winds for 2 days straight. It’s calming down. It was below zero for 2 days straight with peak of -11 with -40s wind chills. Many people had to stay home. It’s very dangerous to drive on exposed roads with snowdrifts blowing all over the roads.

      I live right outside Omaha, NE and wow the conditions the last few days have been brutal. I haven’t seen my chickens in three days so today I heated up and went and checked on them , they were all fine and loved the worms I gave them! The two horses we have look like huskies instead of horses their hair is so long and fluffy. Luckily we were prepared and didn’t have to go anywhere so we have been hunkered down for days! Be safe everyone!

      @@Ak-lp5up well, some people might not have access to that information. Some people genuinely don't care, but some would, but didn't get the information.
      I went to the lake too, to catch the waves, thinking the snow would take longer to tighten its grip on the area, but the heaviest snow and winds hit right as we were driving back home quickly after taking some video of the lake. We pretty much were able to get home completely safely because the roads still didn't have much snow and we were driving very slowly and I was the one navigating with Google Maps, and decided to take side roads home and not the interstate because the whiteout conditions on the interstate would've been brutal. They still were on the side streets, but not as bad, because we had way more buildings and trees helping to block some of the blowing snow.
      Not everyone that drives in a storm like this is an "idiot".

    So, I was doing some research last night. As background, I am a weather geek born and raised in the Cleveland area. The big one we always hear about around here is the White Hurricane/ Blizzard of '78. Legendary meteorologist Dick Goddard had a great chapter in his first book about it. It is very worth the read. RIP Mr. Goddard...
    Anyway, the White Hurricane and this storm had many, many similarities. The barometric pressure was about 15 mB difference at its deepest point, the peak winds were similar (both reaching Cat 2 hurricane speed), and both took similar paths.
    I think where we (the eastern third of the US) lucked out is that the blizzard of '22 storm was centered on average 75 miles further north than the track of the blizzard of '78. I feel this prevented the storm from really tapping into the Gulf moisture. While Buffalo still had Lake Erie come home for Christmas on many levels, the Gulf moisture would've caused a much wider snow event. An example story from the '78 storm that could've been replicated had that happened: a trucker was buried in his semi for 3 days in Cleveland under a snow drift so deep that the National Guard was rolling equipment over his rig without even knowing it until some of the snow fell away. Reed, if you see this, I would be curious about your opinion or more scientific comparison of the 2 storms.
    Thoughts and prayers and hopes for Christmas miracles to those affected by the storm. Buffalo is certainly getting it this year. My hopes that winter takes a chill pill for a little while and allows Western New York to thaw out enough to be able to collectively go outside and touch grass.

    • @johnryan8859
      @johnryan8859 Год назад +1

      10 days after the Nov 22, 6ft 6in storm we were looking at green grass. In 2014 we got 7 ft over few hrs longer period but that also was gone in 10 days. Both those storms caused the Bills to play their scheduled home games in Detroit. In 77 the drift was completely over my house.

    Good God I live in buffalo close to the harbor and just lived through this, but this footage shows so much more than I would've expected. Amazing coverage!

      @@karliann1 I Know it's weird!!! I had 6 feet of snow in November and it was all gone in 12 days. Now all the snow from this storm is all but gone! Crazy weather patterns these days. I remember when I was a kid once it snowed we had a snow cover until March. I was born 9 and a half months after the blizzard of 77, who knows with out that blizzard I might not be around?!?!?! Now who knows what might happen???? Crazy winter so far go Bills!!!
