Hello from 🇨🇦! When you open your door and the snow is to the top, you start digging from the very top. It would have been rough to dig a path all the way to the sidewalk but not too difficult to just dig a little clearance in front of their door. Use a bucket if you don't have a shovel in the house. We keep 2 shovels in the house for when we get buried in snow. Put the snow in a garbage can and then dump it in the tub. Repeat. You only need to do this until you've made enough space for you to step outside and start throwing snow overhead. It's important for them to clear a little space in front of the door for ventilation. Also, God forbid, to get outside in case of fire. I hope she gets a shovel for next time.

I saw my neighbours, weeks ago, take a shovel and free the way from their door to the street/parking spot. And they are older than she is. I used to have a shovel in my car too.
That’s why I never choose to live on the first floor. It’s snowed in Dallas for the past 2 winters and residents on the first floor are always snowed in
The door opens inward and they were trapped? If being in the house for 5 days is an emergency, you'd think a person who could dig themselves out, would do so. I mean, if I really couldn't survive for 5 days in my own house without 'leaving' and I was dying, I'd dig through 3 feet of snow. Lol. It sounds ridiculous when you put it into perspective.
I get that if you rent you shouldn't be responsible for shoveling snow, but come on people. Everyone needs to do their part when there is a natural disaster. If she was really that worried about her son, she would have been out there shoveling it out herself little by little. Especially after 5 days... People expect way too much sometimes.
***I sincerely don't want to disrespect the family members of those who died in this horrific storm*** I don't live in an area that gets storms like this, but, I'm wondering how 60 people have died in Buffalo. Are they dying from car accidents? I'm sure some have died from hypothermia but were they in their houses, or out in the blizzard trying to get help, and were most elderly? I've heard about the gal that died of carbon monoxide poisoning from her exhaust pipe being covered in snow. I know they didn't have power or heat during the storm and probably still don't have power. I don't know the population of Buffalo NY, but 60 people seems like a lot to me and I don't understand how that can happen!
Imagine freezing to death in your car bc you are to scared to knock on a random person's house... city people are weird and helpless I'll just sit in my car in the middle of the street and die instead of looking for shelter...
Suspect those not perishing from preexisting illness (shoveling snow, heart attack, etc.) ignored/underestimated the cold, depth of snow, possibility of impassable roads, need to run the vehicle only 10 minutes per hour for heat, keep exhaust pipe clear, lower car windows for ventilation, emergency supplies for disasters, etc. Possibly no experience with bad weather? Dire lack of planning at a minimum. Experience is a harsh educator, if you survive. We offer condolences to those who survive.
I believe what you're all missing here is that the young lady who died in her car also had on Scrubs, as in hospital Scrubs because she was a nurse who just got off work. No matter the weather, some people have no choice but to be out there. Please don't forget this fact again. It is true that some of them shouldn't have been out there, but some of them had no choice.
Her next move should be to form a neighborhood group so the residents can check on each other and help each other. It is clear that government cannot handle emergency situations. Glad that her story had a good result.
Always prefer candles, lighter, battery,torch/flashlights, biscuits/cookies, drinking water or packed juices, charcoal,or gas stoves, stuck some water in the gallons, necessaries things whether the weather is good or bad bcos u don't know when u gonna use it all. And always have a back packs and keep ur important papers there.
I find it concerning that people rely on others to keep them safe at this level. Own a shovel and at the very least make sure you can crawl out in case of a fire
Poor dear, there were many people in terrible situations who ALL needed help at the same time. She and her son were not in imminent danger. Very unpleasant and uncomfortable but not life threatening. They had shelter and blankets. It's awful, people were found frozen to death in snowbanks and vehicles. Did she not have anything to dig a little path? Even just a few feet beyond her door in case of fire? Are she and her 15 year old son both physically disabled and can't do any work like shoveling? A seizure disorder doesn't mean he can't shovel, unless he has other health problems, but I'm sure she would have mentioned those as well. In a crisis everyone has to be prepared to take some responsibility for their families well being and safety. Rescue/clean up crews can't do it all immediately. We get blizzards here but we prepare ourselves for being snowed in and outages. Thankfully, this lady and her son are OK, and hopefully she learned to be prepared for when this happens again.
Wow! You sound so dumb, didn't you hear her say that her son has seizures? The snow was actually covering the entire door of her BASEMENT apartment & when she opened the door the snow fell into the BASEMENT apartment; even the reporter had trouble getting to her door. They had no heat or electricity and you assume that this is not life threatening? Honey, let me send you some money so that you can buy a vowel and a clue. Learn to listen to the entire segment before posting stupid comments. TF.
@@the4cqueen148 I did listen to the entire segment, did you? You seem hangry, have some 🍲. She said it has been 8 years since her 15 year old son had a seizure. Up to 75% of children who have had seizures when they were very young will no longer have seizures once they are in their teens. This young man has been fortunate and hopefully his neurologist will declare him seizure free very soon. A seizure disorder is frightening but not a death sentence. I have a neurological disorder that causes pain and occasional seizures. Not pleasant but that's life. It's nerve-wracking to be snowed in with no power. Happens up here 🇨🇦 from time to time. I still have to get to work though, no matter what. We keep shovels in the house so we can dig ourselves out. We even keep shovels/sand/blankets/flashlights/extra clothing/candles/ lighters/trailmix/etc, etc, in our vehicle, so if we become stranded we don't freeze to death or suffocate. When you open the door and the snow is to the top (like she indicated) start digging from the top using a shovel, bucket, large bowl, dustpan, whatever you have on hand, that will scoop snow. Place some towels by the door to catch the snow that falls in. Put the snow in a garbage can or garbage bag lined laundry basket, whatever you have on hand to lug snow and dump it in the tub/shower. It will eventually melt when the heat is restored and she can run hot water on it. No one is taking a bath without heat anyway. She only has to do this to clear enough room to step outside. She could carry on and dig a narrow path for a few feet, throwing the snow up and away. Take little breaks and don't overheat. Overheating leads to hypothermia once you start to cool down. "Sweat is death" is a old saying up here. She needed to do just a little digging on her own and not wait to be rescued. What if the building caught fire from fallen candles? At least now they could get out the door. Opening the door occasionally when you're burning candles is necessary for ventilation. "Imminent" means very soon. Like the people outside who died of exposure within a few hours. She and her son hunkered down for 5 days, did their best to keep warm and stayed safe. Not starving or dehydrated, no frostbite, they were OK. Unless she drives a 4×4 with chains, they weren't going anywhere anyway. Maybe you and this lady are originally from a warmer area that doesn't get blizzards and don't know much about winter survival and how such weather paralyzes an entire city. Emergency crews can't help everyone at the same time. People with significant disabilities ♿️ would be prioritized over those who could dig and walk. The elderly/the bedridden, people who would normally have caregivers arrive to their home daily, would need help more urgently than her and her son. People on home oxygen who need their oxygen delivered to them and CAN'T exert themselves to shovel will need help sooner. Those who have the ability to help themselves need to take some responsibility during a crisis. Waiting for someone to shovel for you and then calling the media when you don't get a quick response, knowing other people are in worse situations..... this really didn't need to make the news. Anyway, go back to watching Wheel of Fortune, sweetie.
If you look at the walkways they were waiting to get shoveled out too, lol. People nowadays are useless. It's amazing they don't get "stuck" on the toilet waiting for someone else to wipe their arse!
Simple rule never live in basement, and never live higher in a building then you are willing to walk if a power outage kills the elevators, the sweet spot are the 4th, or 5th floors.
You said some really dumb sht and acted like it was profound 🤦🏻♀️ Do you think there’s that many housing options that everyone can decide to live on the 4th and 5th floor?

Rule number one; secure your own seat belt and oxygen before helping others. In other words, the conditions did not warrant emergency personnel risking their lives to help. We live in the moment and never prepare for emergency if no one could get to you. We're too comfortable with our cars, cellphones, television 📺 and internet. Great Lakes Energy, N.W. Michigan, nonprofit cooperative, great service. The customers own the company. I've never been "brushed off" by them when I've had a question.
BPD had plenty of funding to prevent this. Maybe they shouldn't have wasted it on LRADs and MRAPs. Then they could have actually helped the citizens who pay their checks. This is a really great example of why defunding is not only necessary but a matter of life and death.

I know they didn't have power or heat during the storm and probably still don't have power.
I don't know the population of Buffalo NY, but 60 people seems like a lot to me and I don't understand how that can happen!
Imagine freezing to death in your car bc you are to scared to knock on a random person's house... city people are weird and helpless
I'll just sit in my car in the middle of the street and die instead of looking for shelter...
Why don't they prepare? It's not like it wasn't predicted 🙄🙄
@amandahulsey6165 especially since there was a driving ban in place that obviously was ignored.
I am sorry for you.
نسأل الله السلامة والعافية.
نسأل الله أن يرفع عنكم البلاء والمحن.
Everyone pray together to send the snow to Toronto.
I thank God you still a live you and your son
Wonderful and beautiful
That red towel saved her life
Ohhhh, my GOSH !!!!!!!! I can't even imagine going thru that.
Scary I remember it flooded in state and alot of people died in basement apartments
God blesu
poor people
I find it concerning that people rely on others to keep them safe at this level. Own a shovel and at the very least make sure you can crawl out in case of a fire
Had that been my neighbor. Id of been there all night shoveling if I had to. People need to work together to help people.
Imagine how much worse it would be if it weren't for the global warming.
I want my all my tax money back
Where the heck are the neighbors?! WTF
🇧🇩🖤 Prayers for everyone 🖤🇧🇩
OH MY GOSH!!!!😪
This is why you say hello to your fellow tenants and exchange phone numbers for situations like this.
So happy this turned out a happy ending Godbless
Not always, some neighbors especially men who live alone are not people you wanna be giving numbers too !
Property Managements don’t care and speaking from experience.
Safer at Home
They all need electric shovels.
Batteries are no good when it is cold. The need gas powered shovels.
@@grantofat6438 Batteries are fine in the cold. The battery run shovels make shoveling much easier. And you don’t need gas.
Man NY must be cursed cause those poor people didn't deserve this, it should be 66 degrees without snow
Keep safe 🙏
Just melt the snow bonfire too keep warm
were the hell is your neighbors ?
If you look at the walkways they were waiting to get shoveled out too, lol. People nowadays are useless. It's amazing they don't get "stuck" on the toilet waiting for someone else to wipe their arse!
Simple rule never live in basement, and never live higher in a building then you are willing to walk if a power outage kills the elevators, the sweet spot are the 4th, or 5th floors.
Money determines were u live.
You said some really dumb sht and acted like it was profound 🤦🏻♀️
Do you think there’s that many housing options that everyone can decide to live on the 4th and 5th floor?
Successful people don't become that way overnight. What most people see at a glance- wealth, a great career, purpose-is the result of hard work and hustle over time. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life..
and i most tell you the truth.investment is the key that can secure your family future.
You are right and it's the truth 👍
But I don't know why people remain poor due to ignorance
I totally agree with you, the c r y p t o currency market is the most profitable venture I ever in-vested in
I reached my goal of $257k yearly trade earnings. Setting realistic goals is an essential part of trading
She wasn’t the only one trapped, this is why you prepare before the storm !
I was stuck for 5 days
Got out this morning had enough of that shit and jumped out my window
Shit was whack. Ran outta cigs and everything
How far did you have to jump? Hopefully you're ok. And then stores were probably closed, if a person could make it to one.
@@Jesse-gr2xo about a foot. Into 6 feet of snow. Kinda swam across front yard then walked to the gas station which was open and got some snacks and my cigs. All is well. Shitty part was shoveling when I got back to get to the door. Took nearly 3 hours just to make one path
"PANAMA RELOCATION TOURS! WITH JACKIE!🙋 😊 👍❤ 👈"
How is it that a building design like that is approved for an area known to get a lot of snow annually?
Cuaca yang sangat ekstrim. Saljunya sangat tebal.
You’d think after you pay rent you’d get treated better by the owners
Why would you think that?
It's crazy that people prefer to sit for whole days and hope that they dont die, when they can take shovel , bucket or whatever and clear way to the street on her own
I hope this never happens again. They need a 911 system there that will go to people immediately and help them. My heart breaks for her. I'm glad she's okay now
I guess you have no clue what happened there, do some research before you talk
Why didn't she shovel?
Rule number one; secure your own seat belt and oxygen before helping others. In other words, the conditions did not warrant emergency personnel risking their lives to help.
We live in the moment and never prepare for emergency if no one could get to you.
We're too comfortable with our cars, cellphones, television 📺 and internet.
I'm watching more and more videos on how to survive without the essentials.
Dang that's crazy, we leaving here January 3rd bc I have things to do however being trapped anywhere sucks even if it's on a ELEVATOR sheesh
This is a really great example of why defunding is not only necessary but a matter of life and death.
does she Not have a snow shovel??? how does a cell phone stay charged for 5 days without power ?
I didn't even know buffaloes lived in apartments.
People are absolutely helpless .
They want everybody else to things for them. I see it all the time where I live.
No people are not helpless people are dumb, how do ypu bot have a shovel,
This is why i prep for everything.
Food water ammo.
When a phone or computer can't help you...
And dumb
@@bobg3633 real tough guy huh I would just like to see what you would do in that situation it's a fuckin blizzard dumbass if the snow is almost over the door what are you going to do walk through it to shovel
The snow haulers dumped a mountain of snow on my property, yet cleared downtown for a party as directed by the mayor
Wait until it all melts
I could of dug out the entire area with a spoon in 5 days! lol
Why does the state not call for assistance from the national guard, in the UK the government can and has asked for military assistance in major events, the army is driving ambulance in the UK while the ambulance staff are on strike and the army was called in when the firefighters went on strike the other year.
Just film, don't help.
OMG this is so ridiculous LOL like they couldn't shovel and get out. That's ridiculous
I guess Equality is not in action when it comes to shoveling snow ;p
she had a son... and he didn't shuffle snow? like before it reached the top of the door?
What is it I'm missing here? oh yeah, brains... like every winter, snow will fall, have your snowboots and a spade ready to shuffle. Or suffer the consequences.
Like every winter before, and every winter after....
No excuse, I grew up in Norway and when I was the age of her boy, I shuffle snow for every neighbor and earned good cash... 2 times a day shuffle if the snow was bad... good cash.
Just a terrible parent... no parents I know would have let the snow get that high without sending their kids out to shuffle.
If you wish to come with an excuse, before you start, friendly reminder: you chose to suffer the consequences, it's a choice...
Snow covered on all four sides
😳OMG😨scary😱❄❄❄❄
And if Allah rains down fire from the sky instead of snow on the disbelievers, the cries of the disbelievers will be even louder as to what kind of harp technology this is.
