High End Munich 2023 Day Three Coverage

  • Saturday was the first of two consumer days at High End Munich 2023 and the MOC was packed from 10:00 opening time until just about the 6 PM close. Among Saturday's highlights was a special demo of CH Precision's new P10 two chassis phono preamp-a step up from the already outstanding P1/X1 combo that's my solid state reference. A direct comparison made clear that the P10 is even better than the P1/X1.
    This video is filled with turntable, phono preamp and cartridge news as well as the humor that distinguishes these videos from most if not all of the other High End video coverage. At 2 PM I played a selection of records and acetates in the Nagra room that the crowd seemed to really enjoy.
    I've worked really hard to improve both the video and audio quality of these show reports and I think the effort paid off here, though of course audio under noisy show conditions can sometimes be difficult!

    Hey Michael perhaps you should be doing a few CD player stalls as well. UK No 1 chat figures for sales came out. Metallica 72 Seasons. CD sales 15,873. Vinyl sales 6,292. Ed Sheeran Subtract. CD 41,122. Vinyl sales 8,122.

      Giancarlo just as vinyl heads spend thousands on all their parts so we cd people buy good cd players. The cd reads at 44.1 thousand times a second. Slows down when it get to the ending songs to read it better. Doesn’t have hisses and pops. Doesn’t wear out each time you play it. Has less environmental damage to earth. Stores easier. Where as your vinyl reads through a needle that is bouncing around trying to read three sides at once. The same speed for the end songs so needle tracks more to one side and the quality of sound is not as good. It wears each time you play. It scratches and threats you to hisses and pops. They take up far more room to store. You spend thousands on cleaning machines. Yea you got the better deal alright.

    Thank you, Michael! Another lovely show report, and I'm so pleased with the improved audio. I even get subtitles (closed captions) this time, for some of those hard to understand comments. Of course sometimes the subtitles get it wrong and it becomes amusing to see such words as "phono" interpreted as "funny".

    Michael, I suggest using something like “sound isolation “ filter in LumaFusion, to greatly reduce background noise in this kind of video. It would help a lot.

    Noticed that a lot of these "hi-End" turntables have very long round belts. Do they not realise that they are prone to inaccuracies and the longer the belt is the more they will affect speed stability. AJ Conti is the only person I can recall that actually paid attention to the inaccuracies of belts and ground his flat belts for accuracy. Round belts are horribly inaccurate in terms of roundness and thickness. If thickness or roundness varies at all, you will never obtain solid speed stability.

    • @skipgordon5382

      Acoustic Signature belts a short and flat. Not round.

    • @trackingangle929
      @trackingangle929  Год назад

      Most manufacturers pay attention to belts. And most have flat belts. Not sure what you are noticing.but even those using round like Rega pay particular attention and do not use 0 rings.

    • @67Pepper
      @67Pepper Год назад

      @@trackingangle929 Perhaps most do Michael, however a lot do not. VPI, Clearaudio, Brinkman for example all use round belts. I never insinuated that they use o-rings for belts but I can tell you that Rega belts are highly inaccurate, since you mentioned Rega. I've had a lot of belts made and tested them as well, through measurement and direct reading via tachometer. No two belts were the same, from the same manufacturer. I know that if you took the trouble to test them you'd find their inaccuracies too.😀

      @@trackingangle929 So much to cover - let's start with the unipivot tonearm that has a side bearing. Solving a non-existent problem: a traditional unipivot does not vibrate on its bearing mount. The loads are essentially static. And by replacing the simple, elegant, design of a traditional unipivot with a side bearing, you now have strings and arms that have to move in unison. He claims it's "frictionless". BULLSH`T!
      Then there's OMA and all the garbage they espouse.
      I appreciate your coverage, don't get me wrong ;)
