My father was had an overtly large record collection. While he was still alive, I asked him what was going to happen to all his collection when he died. He got a twinkle in his eye and told me he wanted all of his colored vinyl and picture discs to be melted into a big coffin for himself. He was smiling almost laughing by then. He then told me he wanted Mauler's unfinished symphony to be played at his funeral. I wasn't able to accomplish that either. I got his guitars and my sister ended up with his records with the intent to sell them. I will own his guitars until my last breath out of respect. Oh he also told me if he sat down and tried to listen non-stop to all of his records he couldn't do it. He would probably die first. He still kept buying records anyway. I now have a large collection myself and am "trying" to slow down my spending on them. More trying to listen and enjoy what I have. I've started fixing cassette decks/turntables for a hobby also as a hack.
    Life is good.

I am torn between laughing and crying when I hear someone rabbiting on about proceedures such as replacing copper with aluminum mains supply wiring having any relationship to what is percived eminating from one's sound system.
Furthermore, the electronic signals concerned in playing a vinyl disc are not in the least affected by the amount of money paid for a turntable.
As long a turntable spins at the correct speed with no discernable wow, flutter or rumble, it will do the same job as any alternative unit, regardless of price. I would advise anyone who claims otherwise to attempt a blindfold A/B comparison.

What a T/Table! My first introduction to contactless linear magnet drive was on a.. (now stashed, too good to sell for what they fetch, I'd rather give it to an extended family vinyl music lover with a lesser t/t) ..a 1981'ish PL-L1000 linear tracking d/drive turntable. It moved the arm carriage when the arms light-slit /sensor told the 100% static magnetic induction motor that the arm has gone beyond 0.4 of a degree (or more) either way from true perpendicular groove tracking (those dammed off-centre holed L.P.s aside that only an old Nakamichi Dragon T/table could. Possibly correct for) ..the arm carriage base sat on 3 quarts wheels running on 2 rails stopling it drifting off true (& +/- a half-degree off of..) true perpendicular linear tracking. But In the early'ish or mid 80's, & well beyond 10'yrs after that Pioneer deck was out of production, I read a hi-fi mag's full page ad' from Goldmund with a then-new Turntablesl who, with cut-away detailed diagrams, claimed to had just invented the exact same linear arm contactless magnetic movement inducer with no moving parts other that what it moves, & with with (identical to Pioneer's..) long fat bar-magnet sitting parallel & a cm or 2 below the arm's carriage rails, it also had 2 rails & a 3- wheeled tonearm carriage for linear movement, a precise & exact copy of Pionedr's deck i took apart to clean, inspect & dampen the metal chasis areas internally. Maybe they paid Pioneer to say & write all that but it was not their design & its fact that Pioneer did sell the same system at very least 10'yrs or most prob' more before Goldmund's claim of it being a "Goldmund Design" particularly in that identical magnetic arm-csrriage movement system, its only new & main bragging point.

I have the Mitsubishi linear-track TT from the early 80's. Direct drive and likely the same arm mechanism as the Pioneer. I also have a these linear-trackers: Saul Marantz (1965), Rabco (1977), B&O Beogram and Revox B790 (1980).

    • @The-Spotlight-Kid
      @The-Spotlight-Kid 5 месяцев назад

@@robertjermantowicz-uw3iw There's some classic oldies there, I've not owned but seen all those models. Rabco must have been amongst the very first. I think it was more like the late 70's when the Pioneer PL-L1000 was made, & 8 or 10'yrs later when Goldmund 'claimed' their very far higher priced version had their own design of contactless arm-carriage movement, it was not tho. 'One' probably cannot patent anything reliant on magnetic induction, it's the EMF nature of physics, like you can't patent naturally grown substances. The Marantz you speak of had it's linear arm sticking out from the left side & running from front to back I recall when looking at my eBay s/h options. The Rabco arm-mover looked like it used a threaded cork-screw -like action. I drew my line at not having to drill holes in a wall & having an air compression pump humming away elsewhere, in another room or outside your house, deck position depending. My own "best sound ever recalled" came from a Haybrook TT2 (like a Sondek but a much heavier solid lump, (of some kind of wood but only cut-away to accommodate the sub-chassis & armboard with a few mil' of space around it's sprung parts, not just a thin wood walled box like the Linn, I thought it much better design for a contemporary late 70's Linn Sondek alternative) / Alphason Xenon (pivoting tonesrm) / Denon 301 (more compliant cantilever than the famous Denon 103) / P.S. Audio IV pre (had best phono stage i'd heard, stomped on the boring sounding Naim 32 + Snaps supply, an old RCA phono circuit adaptation I found after it already bored the heck out of me in comparison, after I bought the s/h P.S. Audio) into 2 early 1960's 'Radford' fully valved amps (2 x EL34 Channel) & Tannoy 15"inch D.C. speakers made in 1969 (1 dual driver bit the dust about 18'months ago with "voice coil rubbing in the magnetic gap, (I filed down the outer curve of that voice-coil's windings & got another 6'months of rub-free bass & low freq' sound but it went further out of true alignment (but what superb engineering to have lasted that long, I bought them unheard from a School's yard-sale in 1990'ish, their rear glued-on cardboard test-pass faded, signed & dated labels told they were made in 1969, I could see I was very likely the first to go inside by their rear panel's as-new screw heads & how long it took to lever out that seemingly air-tight, very tight fitting panel without compromising the fit, they had a little woody coloration that was partly improved by adding extra three 2 x 4 wood bracing struts in each one) ..but you can't file away much outer-curve before you "short out" the insulated voice coil windings!) I often get haunted by how good side 2 of J.Lee's "The Healer" moved me (for just 1 e.g.) with that all 2'nd hand system. I'm miss the speakers, now using B&W DM 70 e/stat hybrids, made circa 70, bought v.cheap but needed new foam cone-edge to chassis rings on their (unusually sized)13"inch woofer that takes over below 350 Htz, I like them but preferred Tannoy's 1969 full working 15" dual concentrics. Otherwise, I don't live in the past but it saved me a good few pence

@@robertjermantowicz-uw3iw p.s. I came close to buying that Mitsubishi t/table, a fine looking linear tracker it was ..is. The Revox arm cut-away design pic's did not inspire much confidence in me but if my kids were still little asses, I'd have had one probably, with a cheap m.m. cart' so they could have just 'swang' that rectangular box across to play their old 45's on & not always have me but em a new cart' ever blooming month. If sure was a "cart' safe" looking design. I noticed your Mitsubishi & my Pioneer t/table s/h prices have doubled at least, since I bought mine in nr'mint con' for £250'ish many yrs'back. Now I've just been recently very impressed with a Sony PS-X800 "biotracer" (they strangely called it. It uses a resonance feedback system that effectively magnetically damps the arm if excited into resonance, like when putting a low compliance cart' into a low-mass tonearm. Regaurdless of technology, it has separation & sound stage that knocked me back a bit, in sheer surprise. I never got my old Linn Troika M.C. sounding good untill I'm put it in that Sony X800. The later Elevated Standard (their E.S. moniker version isn't made nearly as well & seems like half the weight, called a PS-555 E.S.) Tho the X-800's feedback controlled magnetic damping system can get rid of cart' matching needs, it definitely prefers higher compliance cantilevers. It's growing on me, I inherited it from my partially blind father who needed it's full auto functions, Inc just 'dialing in' your required tracking weight. It's growing on me, he died 4 years back but I never bothered trying that X-800 until I heard some dude on-tube praise the ass off it. It is very good & I had a shock seeing 1 eBay dude ask £2'thou 5'hundred B.I.Now alternative to his bidding auction, with bids up to £'1000 on the bid-list. Recently, I understood why. Good luck dude

What a coincidence! I too have a Sony Biotracer TT I bought on eBay about six years ago! The arm is rather a marvel - which attracted me to it. It is still in storage as it awaits space for setup.

I expect the Biotracer would work real well with the London cartridge with its near - cantileverless design.

25:12 Michael, I bought your turntable setup DVD quite a while ago and it's great to have a detailed guide for setup. Yes, you and others have provided quick setup tips on RUclips as well, but I was more than happy to buy it to give you a bit of a financial contribution for your hard work and to watch extra tips, details, and explanations in your unique inimitable style. All the best! :)

This was very enjoyable! Your stories always amaze me! The room tour was cool. I do have one suggestion. Well, two, actually.
First. Get yourself and Eames chair or a good knockoff like I did. The chair back shouldn't rise to ear level. It is akin to sitting up against the backwall.
Second, take off your glasses when you listen.
    You're welcome!

Nice presentation Micheal, I learned many things from it. Especially enjoyed you sharing your George Martin autographed Rubber Soul album and then in the last minute when you are holding an LP of Definitely Maybe by Oasis. You are a very cool guy so thanks

i'm also envious of his original EU copy of 'definitely maybe.' i'm stuck here with the 1994 UK CD (same master as the original UK and EU vinyl pressings), the 2009 vinyl (very good, the 'audiophile' one), and the 2022 japanese vinyl (bad cut of a mediocre remaster). oh well, could be worse...

Hi Michael. I am a bit confused after seeing your RUclips video from Axpona regarding turntable setup. I have your dvd and printed the pdf file. On that file you mention that you prefer Baerwald over Loefgren, but in your Axpona conference you say the contrary: that you prefer Loefgren. Can you please clarify? I am setting up a new cartridge and want to know your recommendation.
