Great comparison! Would the FVD 16A vignette (significantly?) with a Kowa 16H/8Z and Helios 58mm taking lens on full frame? I see you get a bit of vignetting with the FVD 16A, speed booster and 50mm, so I imagine 58mm should clear the vignette? Thanks!
Thanks for the review. I epoxied the 114mm hood to my FVD24A as I never planned to remove it. I use it with the Sankor 5E scopes and 40mm or wider lenses. I've been avoiding buying a large +1 diopter but I think it's time I buy it. Have you found a diopter that works yet?
thanks a lot ! I bought the 16a because it's my first anamorphic kit that i'm making, but i was leaning towards the 24a but due to costs and being new, i decided to skip. Still, the 24a seems like a great piece as well, on the future, i'll grab one to use with wider scopes like the kowas! Thanks a lot Shawn 🤘
Thanks for checking out the video I appreciate it, I loved the 16 a but I like to shoot wide rather than crazy looking bokeh So the 24A was a must for me
@@Gonzalez_Films i love shooting wide as well ! for now, i'll try to see how it will go, especially on the 6:5 mode on the 6k pro which crops a lot, so i'll see how wide i'll be able to get, but when i also get a wider scope, i'll look into the 24a !
Hi Shawn! I have one kowa 16-S and I'm looking for a diopter, do you know the best FVD to buy? I'm from Brazil and for us it is really expensive to import things from the USA so I want to be sure of which one I should buy! :)
Thanks for this! What sort of solutions do you do for ND with this sort of front? I realize this would have much too large of front for my Matte box that has a 95mm rear opening. I just bought a Super Cinelux 2x to use with my Panasonic S1 and my various vintage lenses and I'm getting the impression that this probably the smallest Variable Diopter solution that won't introduce any vignetting beyond what the scope (cinelux) itself might do with certain lenses. Is this true? Is there any situation that the FVD 24a ever introduces vignetting on your cinelux beyond what the naked cinelux (with no diopter) may produce? Basically, if you go with a wide enough lens on your cinelux to produce vignetting, does adding or removing the FVD24a make a difference to the amount?
It seems like the speed booster really mucks things up a bit as far as the vignette is concerned and maybe you wouldn’t have any vignetting with either VD without the speed booster in the equation, but I’m not sure. Also Nikon F mount lenses are notoriously narrow, which is why Nikon overcompensated with the big huge Z mount after so many years with a super narrow mount that made engineering fast lenses so much more difficult then it had to be. I wonder if Canon lenses would work out better for less vignette?
The last couple of shots where with the Cinelux and the little glare you see in the bottom left and right corner is reflection from the light above on my ceiling seems to be reflecting the inner gold part of the lens because you can see when I turn the camera it fades away but when I get back in the same spot it appears again, but remember it was made to lean towards the Kowa Scopes so any other lines as a plus. Thanks for watching the video.
@@Gonzalez_Films Yeah, but what about the speed booster bringing more of the FF corners and the vignetting along with that into the M43 image circle to begin with? Since the anamorphic optical elements are already reducing the image horizontally to a 4/3 size to then reduce it further with the speed booster and add more glass (which will degrade the image) just compounds the optical degradation with the kinds of problems FF camera operation has working with anamorphic lenses without using an actual FF sensor.
Hello, I have a ISCO-OPTIC ULTRASTAR HD CINEMASCOPE 2X, I think it's the second gold version. And I want to use it on a Lumix GH6, what do you think would be the best option, to be able to use my anamorphic lens with a single focus? Greetings and thank you.
Hi Shaw, I own Kowa B&H & BMPCC6K Pro and now thinking to buy FVD-16A or FVD-24A? Which one did you suggest and why? Is there any list to see which lenses will be compatible on S35 Sensor with FVD-16A or FVD-24A?
I’d say a 24A for a s35 sensor bigger glass on a bigger sensor as opposed to smaller glass bigger sensor I’m using mft so it’s already a small coverage area I just wanted to be safe.
Hi Shawn, I am looking to buy FVD but i don't know which one is the best for me to get sharp image, your advice please to select between FVD-24A or FVD16A Or SLR Magic Rangefinder, for your reference i have the following gear: isco ultra star red Mamiya sekor c 80mm f/1.9 Sony A7Siii full frame
I would say go for a 16A until you get used to it but you still need to get a clamp system to clamp onto your lens, Once you get used to the 16 AA and find out what taking lenses you’re going to be using all the time then possibly upgrade to a bigger FVD in the future but the 16A is great to start out with. Thanks For checking out the video.

from a lot of testing i've seen from people, and what rapido tested for scopes, this should not introduce vignetting before the scopes do
