Hello Tito!! Thanks to your videos ive just purchased one! Thankyou for the advice. I'd like to point out that it seems they've updated the focus direction to be canon now! www.rapidotechnology.com/products/front-variable-diopter/fvd-16a
Looks great, thanks Tito. For reverse focus throw lenses I've grown to love the PD MOVIE live air 2s follow focus as you can reverse the rotation of the control wheel in a few clicks.
A while ago when you did your Helios review it gave me the confidence to buy it. I just finished shooting a movie on the Helios to get a great faux-anamorphic look and enhanced the barrel distortion in post since I’m on a cropped sensor (T3i) and couldn’t get the full effect. It’s a challenge shooting an entire piece on an 85mm equivalent, but the footage I got is absolutely worth it, and REALLY got my interested in getting a proper anamorphic solution for the next project. All this to say your videos help enormously with getting a solid idea of quality before pulling the trigger on buying a piece of kit.
Thank you Tito! I have a HCDNA, great but tricky to mount so better keep it permanently on the lens; so put Rapido on my wishlist, when I am able to I buy another anamorphic )
Hi, I am looking to buy FVD but i don't know which one is the best for me to get sharp image, your advice please to select between FVD-24A or FVD16A Or SLR Magic Rangefinder, for your reference i have the following gear: isco ultra star red Mamiya sekor c 80mm f/1.9 Sony A7Siii full frame
@@AnamorphicOnABudget Haha enough said. I talked to a friend (@hungryboyproductions) who has done some amazing anamorphic work with an isco and he advised against it as well, saying it flared oddly. Just ordered the fvd16 for the May batch and looking forward to using it. Thank you for the reply by the way! Earned that sub.
Hey man Need some advice Im really leaning towards buying the fvd 16a Currently i have A7iii sankor 16c Chinnon 55mm f1.4 (using in aps-c mode) So ive tried using dual focus in the fly but ive failed So is spending around 600$ on this kit worth it to get single focus solution Or is there a better option that i can opt for and get true anamorphic look and sharp footage
Tito buddy... I’m cursed. Every time you review something I buy it!!! Bought this and a Moller 32x2 today. None of which I need!!! Dang dude! I got a problem.
Oh yeah. I used to do that with the Panasonic G85. Do you prefer the aesthetics of the 16:9 cropped anamorphic or the ‘traditional’ 4:3? I’ve used Magic Lantern 4:3 (5D3) and have a Sony a6300 16:9.
@@AnamorphicOnABudget Hi Tito, I can buy a FVD 16a with an Isco ultrastar red, it will be for a GH6 M4/3, do you think it would be ok or would it be better a 24a? or being that sensor I would not notice any difference? And what focal length is usable at 16a if it is an M4/3 sensor?
From a production standpoint: any thoughts on in-camera desqueeze vs post-production desqueeze? I shoot with a GH5/ lumix20mm / Anamorphot compact 40 / in camera desqueeze, and it feels like there is a lot of quality loss even with 4K. Could be the adapter regardless of any of that I suppose?
Ted Borel Yeah, you’re going to lose resolution with anamorphic adapters either way. In the film days, it didn’t matter so much since it was all 4:3 aspect ratio and you had resolution to spare. With digital, it’s tricky in that you’re locked in to a certain amount of lines of resolution, a 16:9 aspect ratio, and digital compression of some sort. The 2X anamorphic modes on cameras and screens will display only the center 4:3 cut of the image for easy framing, so it’s not quite punching in but it’s essentially scaling up that image and stretching the image with your chosen anamorphic optic. The optical clarity of the anamorphic matters too as, for instance, the Century Optics anamorphic adapter is inferior to the Panasonic DVX anamorphic adapter and both can’t compete with the projector anamorphics like the Kowa, Isco, Schneider, etc. but, on that same point, those same anamorphics can shine on certain cameras, like Micro 4/3s vs. S35 vs. Full Frame, and be entirely different beasts given more resolution, such as the Panasonic DVX anamorphic on the old SD DVX100 vs. on a RED 4K or now 8K camera. For best results, looking back to old ASC magazines to now, with anamorphics you want to be at F4 and slower. The goal isn’t to be faster by using them on a bright F0.95 lens because you’re getting back your resolution by stopping down and allowing the anamorphic to record the full scope of the scene, hence the use of “scope”.
Has anyone tried this on the isco gold/red ultra star?? Looks like a nice piece and supposedly hardly any change on image quality and a large front filter thread which is nice and seems would help to be out of the way of vingetting- would love to know if anyones used it with those!!
@@AnamorphicOnABudget Hey Tito, is the difference in vignetting that big? I want to use the widest lenses possible (leica r) as taking lenses. And what if filters are screwed on? Is it even worse? I have got the option for a used HCDNA (900$) or a new Rapido. Any other downsides on thoses diopters?
When are you planning to do a single focus solution offered by www.anamorphicstore.com review? I think many people would like to know how it compares with Rapido FVD-16 and the Rectilux HDCDNA.
@@AnamorphicOnABudget What about sharpness, I sold the slr magic rangefinder as it is way too soft and unusable for me. The hardcore DNA looks sharp, but wondering how this one stacks up?
I ordered mine 2 weeks ago! :D SHIT that nikon focus ohwno :D I also bough a zacuto follow focus. And I'm building up my anamorphic shoulder rig. Videos about it on my channel.
I’m honestly contemplating getting the FVD-8a to have a more compact package though I’m curious how wide I can go on a super35/APSC sensor with my Sankor16C.
Tito Ferradans Ah that’s bad news about the calculator but good news that you’re gonna give the single focus a go despite the quarrel :) Your channel really is by far the best resource on RUclips about this stuff!

Which one do you consider best and why, the SLR Magic Rangefinder or the Rapido Technology FVD-16A
I am very happy with mine. I had heard a larger one was in the making. I hope so as I plan to buy another one.
I'm used to Nikon Glass. I didn't notice a focus issue. Jim the focus direction is fine to me. lol
With some minor improvements i think he could own this market. It's already great.
Yes, truly so. And hire a kid to clean up that website ;-)

Not really a Sony full frame expert, but can the Sony A7sii shoot video in 4:3 Aspect Ratio?

Is there a difference in sharpness across the various Rapido adapters? i.e. is the -16B Sharper than the Hope you can take the time to reply. Thanks
No difference. The 16B serves a different purpose compared to the 16A, same for the 35A and the new NP.
