Just remember that if you have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto you don’t need digital radio as you can use any one of a number of apps to stream it. Also digital radio isn’t that great. It’s patchy and doesn’t work remotely unless it satellite radio like in the U.S. in fact I find not far out of Brisbane digital radio just fails. Only seems to work in the city so it’s a bit pointless. That Scorpio rear bench seat really should fold flat into the floor - my 3rd row does even with the spare tyre underneath the back. I drove a Tank 300 for an hour. Very nice. I’d not buy one myself but I was impressed for what it is. I have noticed the phrase Value for money or just Value being bandied about a lot recently. Typically when used the meaning is just Cheap or lowest price. Eg. A $90,000 vehicle with specs and quality of a $120,000 vehicle is better Value than a cheaper $80,000 vehicle with only the specs and quality of a $100,000 vehicle. Value for money - the more expensive $90k one wins. If they mean cheap just say cheap. Don’t say value when you mean cheapest or cheaper. The Tank 300 is the better value proposition.
Mahindra is a far, far better choice. It truly has the underpinnings of a tough off road vehicle whereas the Tank is a Mall parking lot "off road" vehicle. Also, Mahindra has a 2.2 L Diesel. No comparison. This reviewer is more interested in yuppie modern bling, bells and whistles. Old school "blingless" vehicles is what people want, not gimmicks. Regards from South Africa
I look at everything, not 'bling' mate. Tech, features, value for money, capability and practicality. The Mahindra might have it's appeal, but the Tank is better overall - Sam
In my case, there is no contest. Tank 300 any day. The Mahindra looks like the 90’s revisited, its bargain basement price being the only point in its favour. There are an ever-increasing number of RUclips videos from Russia where they tend to be blunt and to the point, and really put the cars through the wringer. The Tank has come out shining in all of these beatings, a great off-road platform that owners seem to take great delight in modifying in every conceivable way. Can’t wait for this to launch in South Africa. Looks like my Mazda CX-5 will be finding its replacement.
There are many videos of these in Russia because Russian people don't have choice, every other brand left Russia. And indian brands are afraid to go to Russia due to fear of losing european market. It's pretty easy to become king in the market where no one is to rival

Great review as always Sam, though I need to point out one very important factor you forgot to mention. Reliability. You only need to read the numerous group forums on the Mahindra Scorpio N sites to read owners concerns over build quality i.e., misaligned/excessive panel gaps, orange peel to paint, bad fitment of rubber seals around doors and windows and just recently, a major recall of this Scorpio and the XUV 700 to replace 11-12 bolts from the torque converter back down the drive shaft. Definitely a deal breaker for me. Oh, the only complaints from the Tank 300 members forums, is that they can't buy them fast enough! Bring on the Tank 300 PHEV!!
Mahindra have historically been reliable, however they were utilitarian and basic. Now that they want to transition to lifestyle motoring they need to understand that the clientele is sophisticated and expects more. I think they wanted to ride the Chinese vehicle wave and they brought the Scorpio N too soon to market. While it's a big improvement compared to the previous model, it has major deficiencies.
@@devendersuhag6968 GCap is only used in India. It has been a notorious standard that the safety rating can be purchased via corrupt official. No one recognise GCAP outside India
Review is from the angle of a family car and it is quite accurate toh, but if we see it from the perspective of a couple or a lone wolf their could be different opinions in terms of practicality with just slight adjustments, in the ScorpioN third row off and always an option to bend second row as well you get a huge boot space that can used as a camper too and not to forget the engine difference which can make a lot of difference in long trips and off roading.
Mahindra fits in perfectly considering 1. Value for money 2. Long term reliability 3. Proven legacy 4. Perfect tuning of suspension & other parameters for Aussie conditions. 5. Mahindra's impeccable Vehicle structural Safety 6. Largest reliable tractor(Torque) engine maker in world 7. Geopolitical impact for future part imports (ie. Sudden ban on importing Aussie Agro product due to 'quality' issue for china) But if you want Active safety features based on Radar & full bench seats than you can wait for that variant as even in India people are leaving Compass's & Kodiak's of world for these SUVs
Have you not bothered to watch this video at all? Nothing in this review has anything good to say about the mahindra other than it's cheap, and it's cheap for a reason.
The bat soup car will catch fire. You are talking about differential I am talking about the reliability of engine itself, hope the Crankshaft or valves don't bent. Indian engines are famed for out doing atleast 300k miles with basic mentainence. You will find Mahindra Bolero with 10 lakh aka 1 million km on board with basic mentainence even in hill side. Just remember that In Africa 49 Chinese companies had 85% market share when 2 Indian players penetrated African market those 2 Indian companies occupied 90% of African 2 wheeler market within 3 years. When Bat Soup goes in brain comes out 😂
Great balanced review. Nice to see the little guys getting the spotlight too. From all the Australian reviews I've read and watched, I think Tank 300 has caught up with all the ute based SUVs except the Everest, in fact though I'm a Toyota fan, I think Tank 300 is better than the Fortuner overall. I' own the GWM Cannon X (P Series here) and after 2 years, I don't have any rattles or squeaks. Maybe that's why BMW is trusting to build their Mini EVs.

Where do you find a Fortuner for 50k
Mahindra is a far, far better choice. It truly has the underpinnings of a tough off road vehicle whereas the Tank is a Mall parking lot "off road" vehicle. Also, Mahindra has a 2.2 L Diesel. No comparison.

Old school "blingless" vehicles is what people want, not gimmicks.

Most importantly, would you buy a car with 0 star in ANCAP safety rating?
Mahindra have historically been reliable, however they were utilitarian and basic. Now that they want to transition to lifestyle motoring they need to understand that the clientele is sophisticated and expects more.
I think they wanted to ride the Chinese vehicle wave and they brought the Scorpio N too soon to market. While it's a big improvement compared to the previous model, it has major deficiencies.
Thanks for the note and comments around ownership, are these owner groups on Facebook or elsewhere?
