Mahindra is actually a very reliable brand. I don’t think except the Japanese any other brand can beat mahindras reliability. Also you won’t have problems with spare parts. Reliability and confidence being the reason Toyota is all the rage in India.

I cant give my opinion on the Tank, but it seems to be very good off road. I am a very happy owner of a Scorpio N, and after driving it on road for over 6000 km I can honestly say its a very economical vehicle with a very smooth comfortable ride, and this in comparison with a Prado. Fuel consumption 9l/100 km average, Prado rarely under 10, avearge 10,5. Switch off the stop start before you move. And yes the propshaft vibrated but was fixed. And about safety, with its high prfile tires and full size spare its much safer than a low profile SUV with no spare. So for lang trips I will rather use the Mahindra as I will stand 10 min next to the road vs a day in some very safe SUV’s. So for me it is safer than many low profile SUV’s.

Indians with such a mentality deserve to be poor and backward.

As an Indian, I must say, the Tank isn't bad. Infact for the price and the features both seems to be at par. Yes, the Mahindra boot space and the space utilisation sucks. I own one and know how living with one is. But yes the engine is smooth, ride comfortable and easy on the pocket. There are things that Mahindra could have done better, but then Mahindra cars are known for reliability. The Tank looks awesome, interiors looks great too, its just the payload I feel should have been better.

Don't get me wrong, they do make good cars, but I think they still got a lot to do if they need to sell cars outside India. These cars are great in India, but would find it hard to sell outside India. I myself drive a Scorpio N so I very well know its flaws. The tank, we don't get it here. But yes at a few dollars more, the Tank makes more sense in Australia, with their driving conditions and safety norms. Im just proud of what Mahindra has done, building this as a side project considering that their actual money comes from farm equipment and trucks. The Indian brands being inferior to a Chinese brand is a bit hilarious. You just had to bring in racist angle. I acknowledged both of the cars shortcomings and their positives as an Indian, who likes it when they see their brands represented outside of the country

Just remember that if you have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto you don’t need digital radio as you can use any one of a number of apps to stream it.
Also digital radio isn’t that great. It’s patchy and doesn’t work remotely unless it satellite radio like in the U.S.
in fact I find not far out of Brisbane digital radio just fails. Only seems to work in the city so it’s a bit pointless.
That Scorpio rear bench seat really should fold flat into the floor - my 3rd row does even with the spare tyre underneath the back.
I drove a Tank 300 for an hour. Very nice. I’d not buy one myself but I was impressed for what it is.
I have noticed the phrase Value for money or just Value being bandied about a lot recently. Typically when used the meaning is just Cheap or lowest price.
Eg. A $90,000 vehicle with specs and quality of a $120,000 vehicle is better Value than a cheaper $80,000 vehicle with only the specs and quality of a $100,000 vehicle. Value for money - the more expensive $90k one wins.
If they mean cheap just say cheap. Don’t say value when you mean cheapest or cheaper.
The Tank 300 is the better value proposition.

In my case, there is no contest. Tank 300 any day. The Mahindra looks like the 90’s revisited, its bargain basement price being the only point in its favour. There are an ever-increasing number of RUclips videos from Russia where they tend to be blunt and to the point, and really put the cars through the wringer. The Tank has come out shining in all of these beatings, a great off-road platform that owners seem to take great delight in modifying in every conceivable way. Can’t wait for this to launch in South Africa. Looks like my Mazda CX-5 will be finding its replacement.

Great review as always Sam, though I need to point out one very important factor you forgot to mention. Reliability. You only need to read the numerous group forums on the Mahindra Scorpio N sites to read owners concerns over build quality i.e., misaligned/excessive panel gaps, orange peel to paint, bad fitment of rubber seals around doors and windows and just recently, a major recall of this Scorpio and the XUV 700 to replace 11-12 bolts from the torque converter back down the drive shaft. Definitely a deal breaker for me. Oh, the only complaints from the Tank 300 members forums, is that they can't buy them fast enough! Bring on the Tank 300 PHEV!!

Either one I would love to have. Please feel free to ship one of those vehicles to me so I may use it as my daily driver in the middle of Canada where we yearly get harsh cold Winters with a ton of snow and every Summer most everyone travels. Our Autumn and Spring are full of rain and slippery roads.

Have seen a few vids on the GWM tank and including yours it ticks a lot of boxes, amazing what they’ve packed into this vehicle, but as is always the bottom line, time will provide a better indication of its reliability and response from the dealer to provide a “we can do” and not a “sorry but that’s not covered” attitude. Amazing for the money 100%, visually I like the mahindra but the tank has it nailed everywhere else. 👍

Hahaha you must be writing comments by siiting on couch and without even having a real look at these vehicles. The road presence, the sitting position of driver & driving experience of scorpion is way ahead in comparision of these scrap. Once you get all these feature, the rest of the supplementary features dosent matter. For a new buyer, one must test drive scorpion then i am dead sure no one will able to refuse it.
