I'd honestly choose the Scorpio cause I'm a old school guy. Not a fan of gimmicks in a car prefer when a car remains basic and does the job. I'm a Off-road freak and I've driven both cars. For me it's about the Feel when off-roading and I get that in the Mahindra it feels like I'm in control of the machine like trying to tame a wild bull I love that feeling. Unfortunately in the tank it felt like just another generic 4×4 with plush toys inside trying to overcome obstacles on the road. I love when my 4×4 has grunt to it honestly it makes the ride more fun for me. When I sat in the Mahindra and took it for a test drive it took me back to the day i brought my land cruiser home. Again just my opinion but the Scorpio feels more of a 4x4. For some reason I prefer the interior of the Scorpio to the Tank I find it mature and it gives off a very rugged and manly look. I mean there's got to be a reason why the Scorpio is a outback favourite right. Seen a lot on the beach too. 3 months with my Sand muncher (Scorpio) and it hasn't missed a beat.

Tough choice as there is a lot of compromises. Mahindra's a little lacking in extras and the space is compromised, where as tank has terrible payload. If I was to use it for towing and light offroading I would go the Mahindra... which I'm actually considering.

Had the chance to test drive both few weeks back, in my humble opinion apart from the similar price range the Scorpio is not in the same league as the Tank 300. The Tank is really a much more refined product both in terms of tech and driving capability (on & Off road). As a matter of fact, I do think it is a strong contester to the likes of Prado, Wrangler and the likes. (Speaking from an owner of Prodo for the last 6+ years)

braking with wheels off the ground is terrible. the ".01 seconds" off the ground also means ther is a great deal more time where only .01% of the wheel is barely touching the ground. you brake hard and try to swerve around the reason for braking with your rear end only applying 100kgs of load to the tarmac and let me know how that went.

More computerised electrickery inside a Chinese-made car isn't a good thing, for me. My experiences to date with rentals has convinced me that budget car makers simply don't do a great job of the computerised stuff and, when that includes so-called 'autonomous safety systems', I just see problems waiting to happen.
In this sense, the Mahindra, despite having fewer bells and whistles, appears to suffer similar problems, i.e. complaints about the hill hold and something else I can't recall. These issues, especially infotainment connection problems, seem to occur with some of the major manufacturers too, though much less common.

Off road- with 95% people keeping 4x4 for urban driving, does it really matter . Mahindra has the required capabilities of a 4x4 which 99% people will ever need !!

I would buy the Mahindra any day the Mahindra is so much better than the tank 300 for starters in India and they build some very good vehicles infact we own a Suzuki Baleno made in India and Toyota rebadge the Suzuki Baleno as the Toyota Starlet so if it's good enough for Toyota it's good enough for me and l know of four Mahindra Pick-ups that have done over 500000 km and the Tank 300 will never archive that but the Mahindras have done that Mahindra all day long reliable vehicles and reliability is the most important when buying why do you think they sell so many Toyota's in Australia and l know all about Toyota reliability l own a 26 year old Toyota Hilux that has done only yes only 434000 kilometres and no Chinese vehicle will ever do that they will fall apart as for lasting 26 years no way will the Mahindra last 26 years probably which would you rather buy a vehicle that will last maybe ten years or a vehicle that will last a long it may be all pretty and nice when they but how do they stack up in ten or twenty years time

in my honest review of all safety tech like AEB lane keep assist and all that i hate all of it i think people should learn to drive a car ive been driving for 25 plus years and never had an accident and ive never like the car steering for me or any AEB that brakes the car for me

The Tank ELK is currently the subject of a recall to fix so should be a lot better from now on.
