FINALLY! This channel is top notch man. Takin my truck in ASAP to get this issue cleared up! Thanks again!
Appreciate it Jake
My 2021 is at the dealer right now for this issue. It's been there for 1 month today! Thanks for showing the service bulletin, so I had proof. Thank you for this video!
Count me in on this problem. I thought that noise was the water separator working. Great job Arod!
I think this is my current issue as well. Time to take it to the dealership.
"This pump will spend it's life submerged in diesel fue"
I can't help but feel it gets cut to single out people who run their trucks on empty, or perhaps, accidentally not submerged in diesel fuel! 😁😃
Love this channel man!
Thanks buddy!!!
So nice seeing someone take pride in their work! Amazing video. Mines made this sound since I got it, 2019 f250. Seems to stay quiet if I stay above 1/4 tank. I thought maybe it was heat related. Arizona not kind.
Dealer did say the sound was normal/common..
Thanks pal
I also have a 2019 F350. I installed the S&B 55 gallon tank and thought maybe I did something wrong. Could not remember if the noise was there prior. I did my first fuel filter change at 17k miles and that didn’t help. It’s freaking me out. Also in Arizona!
The pro making it look easy! Great video bro!
My 2020 6.7 just started the buzzing sound a week ago, great video.
I was getting that noise for months on my super duty when I bought it as well and ford had no clue what to do and said it would be fine to drive… long story short I put an spe fuel filter kit on it with the larger flow and better filtration cat filters and it’s been 20,000 miles since I put it on and haven’t heard it since.
Almost seems as if they designed the cage nuts to break. I swear engineers hate us techs... Hate us to no end. Make it harder than it has to be for the simplest things.
That inductive heater looks like an invaluable tool! Nice tips A Rod!!!
Thanks pal
Locking nuts are a disease....I have never, in my 48 years doing this, had a fuel tank fall off. Rust off-yes but not bolts fall out. Yes, that push on a connection and then pull it off method is the ancient martial art Judo.
Lmaooo
They should call them tell-tale nuts, because you can usually tell that someone's been there before.
(Unless you got that inductive power)
Lmao
Did the new fuel pump resolve the issue? Just had mine done with updated part and pcm update and still have knocking from fuel pump. Mine is 2020 f350 SC.
As always your vids are great and only one that actually explains the issue . I have 2015 that started making that noise as well as gurgling sound when cycling the key . Shop said the lower fuel pump and upper one are pumping correctly. They said it may be the pump in the tank caveating the fuel . Found that weird if the tank is full but did swap out OEM tank for a 60 gallon Titian tank. Also causing issue with loosing pressure when truck shuts off. Then makes starting a little difficult.
There is no pump in the tank. It's only mounted on the frame rail. Hmmm I wonder why it's still doin it with the bigger tank
Not a pump but the sending unit in the tank . They were going to replace with S&B sending unit . They said that they have seen issues with the sending units having issues with Titian tanks . After looking at the S&B tank should have gone with that one . Bit over all not sure . Not leaking fuel and have codes or issues once truck is running . Only in start up . Wonder if there is check valve anywhere that may be messed up or an o-ring missing from a line .
Ended up being that the shop that installed the tank had a hose that was loose and also kinked . Dropped the tank fixed the lines and no more issue. Recommend that people give the lines a little tug to make sure they are secure. Got lucky that it was not leaking . Also S&B said that even if it was the sending unit that their sending unit only works with after market fuel pumps (air dog or Fass) so would have had to replace with ford part. As always appreciate the help and keep doing the things you do and share your knowledge with RUclips world.
Did the TSB not fixed. They swapped out the pump in my 20 6.7 Tremor. Did not fix it. They replaced the Fuel pump controller and that fixed it.
My 2022 f 250 has a bumping noise coming from the tank. Sounds like someone sitting a coffee cup on a table. I hate explaining to people its normal, then I get the ford jokes.
Thanks! I know I've asked about this a few times. Your are the man!
Getting a retractable cover installed a my local dealer tomorrow I'll bring up this issue again.
Awesome video as usual.
Hmm now I want to go and check my 2021
I was about to comment asking about this. Thanks!
I have this issue. Have taken it into the dealer twice now. Did the TSB update and it still has the sound. Guess I will push to have them replace the pump.
Next step...
Hate to see the cost of that fuel pump I bet you need the KY lube lol. Around here it's easier to pull the box off than drop a tank.
Came out like ‘butta’…Now I’m going to have to go listen to mine! 🤔
Yuuuup
Very informative. I suppose they had a batch that was noisy
I always just assumed it was pump cavitation, never really bothered me
Great video ARod thanks buddy u should do the video on ur truck
My 2012 makes that noise too!
unrelated question, but hopefully you can help. 2021 Ford f350 diesel makes a "CHIRP" noise when I shut it off. any ideas?
Normal. Its the belt. Ur shutting off a bunch of rotating parts that have mass and inertia. When that suddenly comes to a stop the belt makes that noise
My 2021 started to do that noise at 43,000 miles. During the 2nd fuel filter change I noticed brass in the bottom of the housing where the filter sits.
Mine makes that noise, I just changed the fuel filters and primed it 6 times and then started it long enough to see the oil pressure gauge go up and the shut it off because I just change the oil at the same time... well went to try again and the truck started to roll over longer then normal so I stopped it and primed 6 more times tyen tried to crank it and the truck wont even crank over. Pulled underside fuel filter off to see if it wasn't making a seal, looks fine but no fuel in it almost as dry after priming 18 or so times...
Whhhhhhat!
So if you replace the pump with the exact same pump and so many other have the issue... What's to say the puno you put in isn't going to have the same issue?
Gotta ask dearborn
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod use to live down there! Little far away now haha
Ok this might sound Nuts yes get it sound. But I had F150 Ecoboost that would make sound when I left trailer hitch In place, and I need to triple check this on my 2020 supper duty 6.7. Because it makes a sound like parking brakes are slipping when parked. Not always? And now not sure if fuel pump or tow hitch? Great channel! Thx for Info
Def not the hitch...
Ford needs to put on external lift pumps for their diesel
Agreed
I'm installing the FASS system but I am quite paranoid about the modifications needed on the fuel pump for the install. And I'd like to not bypass the Ford water separator even though the FASS system includes a water separator. So I'm undesided if I'm going to proceed. Do you think ARod would help me if I gave him free room and board while he was here? A couple hours we'd be done.
😝😝
what are the PSI's supposed to be on the rails and pump?
Experience diagnosis. Tec. Nice video
I have this issue with a new Bronco Sport. Wow! What is Ford doing!
Great video thanks
Cool video man…
Have you seen this on trucks built after that date, or is there a different TSB for the trucks after that date? Mine is an April 2021 date but it absolutely has the knock.
No update, but u clda been built with old stock
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod so I finally got the dealer to hear the knock, and they wound up replacing my fuel pump. The brand new pump knocks just as bad. The noise isn’t concerning so much to me, the thought of the pump dying is my concern. Do you think I’m fine with a brand new pump even though it knocks, or should I get the dealer to revisit the issue?
@TeamNiem Does it do it with a certain level of fuel in the tank
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod maybe when it’s slightly less than full, it’s doing it at 1/2 tank right now. Maybe it just echos more when it’s got some air space in the tank.
I replaced 3 in my 2021 f550. And it still makes this obnoxious thumping and cavitation sound. You can hear it 30ft away with truck running!!!!! What the fukk is it????? Please someone help!!!!!
Hotline said it's a normal noise characteristic
What is the TSB number to have the PCM reprogrammed
Before maybe you could not hear it with older and louder engines.
I just had a fuel pump changed in my car and it is making this hissing, buzzing noise that can be heard from 30 feet away while idling the car.
The original, OEM pump went 175k miles but I decided to preemptively replace it because I had to have the tank laboriously dropped to replace a defective fuel sender to eliminate a check engine light to pass emissions.
The mechanic who installed the new pump was nonplussed when I told him about this noise with the new pump. I must have gotten scammed by substandard Chinese knock off parts and this is the first time that I allowed the mechanic to source his own parts dammit. I usually just get OEM parts and he puts them in for me.
This country is in trouble, as crap like this is happening everywhere as the USA is being systematically de-industrialized.
Just plain awful
Got a 21 F450 they put a new pump and know it making a louder noise . They say it’s not going to hurt nothing . Do you think I should try another pump ?
Damn reallly.
I checked and mines definitely a little noisy too can only really hear it when the engine is not running. 21 F450. After reading this I don’t know what to do.
What about the squel/ squak sound coming from under the hood? I think it has something to do with turbo vacuum. Fird says it normal, I say BS my 2018 6.7 never that noise.
Yeah thats the diaphragm releasing off the cooler...big deal....totally normal...
They told ya that🤦♂️🤦♂️
Its kind of embarrassing, turn off truck and walk in front of it and its like the is screaming/ squaking at you. People near by look at you and your truck funny. Ford may say it is normal, but no way did any Ford engineer sign off on that before production. This noise must have appeared in the engines after production, and its easier if they just say its normal. I have never heard any car or truck make a sound any where close to this and I have been fooling with cars and trucks for over 40 years.
Hey Arod, King of all things Powerstroke, what’s up with the kill switch??
Check the email out @ the end of that video. Got A WHOLE bunch of dudes in cue!!!
Seems the new 6.7s are having many more issues than the 11-16 models 😢
11-16 were not bad trucks, obviously had their flaws like any truck. These 17+ are the biggest pain in the a** I’ve ever seen. More problems than a Nissan titan 5.0 Cummins 😂
You got a link to that heat induction bolt buster tool you used?
No
Would that heating tool help with the EGR pipe bolts?
No those bolts are non ferous....
I just replaced my lower fuel pump on the rail. It’s still making a whining noise from it. Any ideas? It’s a 2011.
Do you have a fuel restriction?
Since my 2020 powerstroke was new, I have had this sound and I didn’t know if it was normal or not. I wish I would have known about this before putting the 60 gallon s&b fuel tank on my truck. Do you think the dealer would tell me that they won’t replace the pump because it could have been something I did when replacing the fuel tank? I want to fix the problem but I really don’t want to do the work again lol
You can come see me
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I would love to but I’m all the way in California haha where are you located again?
Detroit...peeps comin from NM & CO u aint that much farther
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod haha I’ll have to see about that. Might be a fun little trip.
I gotchu
My 2022 is doing this exact thing.
Is there a TSB for the same problem with regards to a 2022 F350 built on October 2021
Ehhhhh maybe
I have a different noise .. like a ticking typewriter... Would this fix?
From the pump........
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I think so... I cant narrow it down ... it's definitely from where the fuel tank is.
Hmmmm
2020 F-450 chassis cab has the same noise, 56000 miles, Will the dealer change the fuel pump?
I mean if they want to...some dealers im womdering about
Would a noisy pump cause a p0193 (FRPS) CIRCUIT HIGH?
A noisey pump is NOT going to cause a circuit code...
Can you bypass this pump with a fass system and it not void warranty
...probably not
What’s an extra 500$ tool to make that solid .5 warranty time 🙄
My 2021 started to do that noise at 43,000 miles
Mine makes the same noise.
Ive always seen that on Fords. I dont know why they put too much loctite on the bolts. It doesn't need too much to do its function of preventing the bolt from loosening.
Just think how much money they waste on loctite
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod just think about all the cursing other mechanics do when they snap those bolts or take an eternity to loose them up 😅
Bro..............NEVER again will I.....
Paid good money for that tool to help keep from spittin sparks
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod money well spent, brother 👌🏼
Is this an issue to watch out for in the 2019’s
No sir
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod whew thank you
I have a 2019 that’s making the same noise
I have 2019 with 55,000 miles doing it also is it just noise or will it fail
I don't like ford super duty 2020 -2021 very noisy when the def is being cleaned
Ok
🤦 yes... looks like mine is going to the dealer for the 4th time in 6k miles, not impressed at all
Sorry pal....
Ptt is that a warranty repair?
Sí
I have 27,500 miles on my 2020 and you can hear mine from 20 feet away
God dammmmmn
Mine is the same way at 23k miles, u can hear it in the cab with the windows up and everything, it bothers me some but I don’t know if my local dealers would do any about it.
They will probably tell u its normal
Hi Jason.
Jason where you at?!?!
I know it’s an old video, was this fuel pump covered under warranty? 2020 f-350 limited 46k miles
Yes!
I’m absolutely in love with these trucks, I have a 19’ f-550 I drive for my company and have hammered it for 110k miles and it just keeps going, did have to change turbo at 82k but it never stranded me. It weighs 20k too lol. Just bought this f-350 for my personal rig.
@@kylegrizzle2640 from day 1 of existence, Powerstrokes love being worked! No putt puttin.
Does my 2012 have a pump in the tank like that ? The only noise I get is when the filter on the frame rail lift pump gets dirty it will whine like a little bitch 💁
No
Thanks for the response. Love your videos. I also have a 1997 F 250 7.3 Crew Cab . It’s pictured in my thumb nail. I’m the original owner . I ordered it from Ford choosing the color scheme and all options. Owned it 25 years now it has 550,000 on it. I started out with Bill Hewitt of Powerstroke help back then to learn how to maintain it and fix problems. The only way to be able to afford to keep a truck this long. Your videos are helping a lot of people ! I’m learning as much as I can about my 2012 6.7 cause I’m doing the same with it as the mighty 7.3 💪
Thanks pal, appreciate that 👊🤝
Where can I get the fuel pump removal tool?
Otc
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I will check the local auto parts store.
I think I show you the number there
I am installing the S&B tank soon and was watching your videos to prepare. Also today my truck developed its first issue. It better be a warranty issue. Loud fan type noise on acceleration.
My 15 does this😂 kinda had me worried for a minute
Completely different
My 2021 started to do that noise at 43,000 miles
