No joke the bios screen is now counter-intuitively intuitive. I sat there staring at the new MSI bios for like 5 minutes before realizing I could even use my mouse. We've been trained for 20 years to struggle through different bios with hotkeys and searching through endless categories. Now all the main things are right in your face! Drag, drop, or click!

You just read what everyone can see in their BIOs. It like you go to fancy restaurant with someone who doesnt know any meals from the menu. So you say: "Oh, I will help you chose!" And then you just read menu to them. Without actualy explaining what is that. I felt similar watching your video. I wanted to learn about more what all these things mean, how they can change PC performance and so on, but you just read all options that I can see clearly my self in my BIO :) Now of course, if you just wanted that - then nice video. I just thought maybe this video should have been about explaining BIOs and not just showing them.
Included in the title is the word “Overview” which is just a summary of what’s included, if your looking for what each of these settings individually do more in depth, I would suggest using google to lookup the name of whichever bios setting or option you wish to learn about, and then read about those settings until your satisfied, I promise you there’s more than enough information for you to satisfy your quest of BIOS mastery. TLDR: Don’t expect mastery of a bios with a 14 minute overview video on RUclips

I got a Question: Is it more effective to simply enable the CPU Game Boost or manually overclock the CPU to 5,1 GHZ or even up to 5,3GHZ with the Core Voltage like you did in the Video? My Z170 from 2015 has Click BIOS 5 so the bare bones of the system are pretty old at this point; their software stack is also getting pretty old as well. What is your recommended manufacturer for the z590 chipset? Wanting to go middle of the road to higher-end
is this basically the same on Z590 gaming carbon wifi? I just bought one. And what voltage if I want to run my 11600k at 4.9 or 5.0Ghz? Also how much can I overclock my 3200 RAM and how do I overclock RAM on this board? This is all new to me because I had Asus motherboard before which would automatically overclock the RAM and CPU together when you adjusted the multiplier setting in bios.
Me too, that's why I came here. I'm stuck not knowing how to recognize which drive i want to boot from first. At least he said I can click and drag the one I want to the left of the rest of them, but I don't know which one is my actual usb drive that I want to install windows from. Be patient. Try not to do anything unless you understand what you're doing. Keep looking at the manual and watching videos about your situation. The manual can be googled to get a pdf of it if you don't have the manual. Also, try reddit's pc build help section or other pc blogs. Google your motherboard and add the word bios set up, or whatever you're looking for. Good luck. In the end if a real computer build store helps you, it shouldn't cost too much.
@@lennard2995 Hi again. I read in my motherboard manual the hot keys for the bios. One of them is to tell it to "load up the best defaults " , except I forget the word they used to describe the best. But anyways it's the key for the best defaults. Then I pressed the hot key for save and exit. Then it leaves bios and either restarts in bios or shuts down. I couldn't find another way to shut it down so when it seemed like it was just going to sit there waiting for me to do something, I pressed the main power button and held it in until the pc shut itself down. Now that I've reset the defaults and saved that, and shut it down, I put my windows key usb stick in one of the usb 3 plugs in the back of the pc instead of the front panel. That way it's plugged directly into the motherboard. I don't know if that made any difference. But when I turned the pc back on, it finally recognized the windows 10 usb stick and started to boot and read from that. Thankfully. Then I just was able to carefully answer the questions in the boxes and set up windows the way I wanted to. If you're not online yet, you can just check "I don't have internet " when that box is on the page. The important thing is to understand how to tell the bios which drive to start from, whether that's your usb stick with Windows on it, or a CD DVD drive, wherever you have your windows starter files on. Then when you restart your pc, it should have the windows usb stick or disk inserted and as its restarting you're hoping for it to read your stick or disk with Windows starter on it. If you do not have a manual for your motherboard, go to the manufacturer website, like msi or whatever your motherboard maker is, and read the set up instructions, and find out which are your bios hot keys. Just try carefully to follow instructions. If you still don't understand, watch the videos made by the motherboard manufacturer or Linus Tech Tips. Hopefully it will work for you.
Where is PCH voltage located in the bios of a MSI MEG z490 Unify motherboard? I see in this video that PCH voltage is present in the voltage settings section but in my bios it is nowhere to be seen. I have been searching all over the internet to find out why this setting is not in my bios. Or maybe it is, just under a different name.
So I finally got this board together. And it recognizes both ssd and hdd as storage, but wont recognize either as bootable devices. SSD is windows 10 and hdd is ubuntu. How i do make these bootable? Ive seen different BIOS screens now, but yours is exactly the same. Help please, and thanks!!
I have a mining rig that was using another RAM from 3200MHZ 8GB but i wanted to have more RAM for the rig i buy an RGB 3200MHZ with 8GB each so i can have 16GB. But the motherboard does not recognize the second ram. Do you know a fix for this problem?
@@jutechid1125 yes. Find overcloking tutorials. You basically have to overclock just the ram. Also if you use some programs to check.your pc specs, keep in mind some say ram is at 1500 when its actually displaying a single half ram speed. So its sometimes double that
I just upgraded my 10 year old PC to MSI Z490 mobo and there is one thing bothering me. I have disabled the full screen logo display but the POST of my new motherboard doesn't show the basic info like CPU version, RAM counting and a list of SATA / USB devices like the old ASUS motherboard did. That "info" just blinks on the screen for less than half a second and then disappears. Is there a way to make it display all that info, count the RAM and show device list for at least 10 seconds before it continues with booting ?
How can I lock my case fans to a certain speed? When I uncheck "Smart Fan Mode", click PWM, then set the chart to 40, they stay at 40 until my GPU heats up. Basically, I want them to stay at 40% regardless of temps for testing purposes, but I cannot seem to get them to stay locked into a chosen RPM.
I have the same board and I cannot seem to detect my new SSD I installed. I ensured to connect is to SATA 1 as I have an M.2 installed. I cannot get it to appear in the bios or disk managment. Any suggestions?
Simple google search will tell you. Look up your motherboard manufacturer + bios instructions and it will tell you how. The motherboard manual also has this info; that's what its there for.
I don't wtc is going on ... but I updated my bios (Z590) no problem but if I try to make changes in the bios such as what is done in the video it well not boot to windows. Just after you see the circle in motion screen starts to flicker and it kept doing even after I set the bios back to default. Took like around 10 cold boots just to boot with default settings for some odd reason to get it to boot to windows. I have had many computers in my life time starting with Commodore 64, and have never had such an issue. Wondering if this is defective in some way. Any thoughts may be helpful ... but I think I well try to flash previous bios or restore original if I can. Unbelievable this is a first, there is no manual with this thing and the only manual I can find on line is for building ... I can't find anything to explain the Bios Settings.
I bought a new mobo. Z490 tomahawk. I never overclocked. But just checking through oc profiles i loaded oc profile 2. I saw that my oc settings changed. Do bios come with preset oc profiles or was i ripped off? This mobo was pre used? Because i never changed or saved any oc settings. Help.

It's been two days that I've been searching all over Google worldwide but I haven't figured it out yet I installed the 10700k + msi Z40m Edge Wifi .... and in idle it always remains at 4.7mhz. Power saving on Balanced, tried the settings in the BIOS on the C-State etc. etc. Updated BIOS. XMP is enabled or NOT. CPU ratio there is no item you can select Fixed or Dynamic. But there is no way to make it go down to 800Mhz in Idle. Anyone know what it can be ??? Many thanks in advance.

@@spazmatt3000 Fantastic. Yeah I got mine running too, I just booted it a second time with the usb stick in a motherboard usb and not the front panel and it's kicked itself into gear to install windows. Glad yours went well then. Have a nice holiday.
It depends on the silicon quality (golden sample or not) of your cpu, and also on the cooling solution used. But yes, the motherboard can handle anything overclocked with ease.
I build my own PC with MSI H410M-A pro + core i3 10100 (support RAM 2666Mhz) But in BIOS my RAM just running at 1867 Mhz i get the XMP profile is turn OFF and i can't put it ON Can somebody give me a solution for this problem?
If you have audio connections on the computer case itself, like on the front panel, and their cords have properly been connected to the motherboard in the audio area, then you would want the hd audio set to On. I don't really know about the second question. I'd guess those were two different kinds of hard-drives.

i have a whole different motherboard and have already built it and set it by now. all you do is find where it says xmp profile and set it from disabled to profile 1. it might be docp instead of xmp but its the same pretty much
i just got this motherboard paired with amd ryzen 5 3600x and 16gb of member at 3200mzh, anyone have issue with window installing, it boot up from my usb then when it goes to installing window i would get a pop up error , window encountered unexpeted problem, please reboot i have no been able to install windows, i dont know if there is an incompatible issue with memory or processor issue
It should be in the manual. Just look carefully at the little circles in the pictures and try to understand which one they are talking about in the text by process of elimination.
Just getting into PC gaming. It's been many many years since I was into PC's. My friend is helping me build the PC. he's the one that got me into it and said I should build one. So he made a list of what I should get MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON MAX WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard I'm on a hunt for a RTX 2070 super / 2080Ti / 2080 Super Looking to snag a Ryzen 3900x I was wondering if I could control the MSI GPU cards within the MSI bio's program, or do I really need afterburner? The only reason I was asking is that I was thinking of getting the same GPU as my motherboard. And in hopes, I could control the GPU within the MSI motherboard bios application. If I need to install separate software for the GPU, I mind as well go and look into finding myself an EVGA / NVIDIA card instead. Thank You.
almost no gpu is controlled in bios always done in software like afterburner. just dont use the auto settings is all i recommend to most do some research on your card
@@DaveBudness yeah I had a system built with no GPU during launches in hopes to get 3080 or under. 3090 is not worth it in my eyes. Even had a order cancelled on me... but ended up getting 1660 super for little bit then found a 2060 OC for killer price. I keep checking the sites for drops but may wait to see about the 30 supers... sad times even my 2060 is bottleneck of my 10th gen i9 OC build....

I THINK there's a little area on the right lower corner of your windows pc monitor that has a little icon showing internet. If you click that the list should appear of local Wi-Fi in your house and neighborhood. Yours SHOULD be the top one or two. It probably says it's connected (automatically when you turn on your pc.) You can click the name of your own connection and it should offer you the choice of connecting or disconnecting from the internet. You can do this everytime you want to, or set it to connect automatically or manually. Manually is you clicking on it down there in that little corner of your monitor everytime you want to connect to the internet. Then of course with no internet you'd have to use an Ethernet cable to connect to someone else's pc in the house to play with. I THINK.
Check on pcpicker.com. make the entire list of your cpu, cooler, motherboard etc. Then, choose to look for ram. On the left of the choices try to choose a set of 2 x 16 GB. Make sure the ram is for the socket your cpu is. Then see what ram they offer you in the list. You must match the Hz speed to what your motherboard and cpu say they will accept. Choose one that you THINK matches, say add, to the list of items of your build. Then look at the entire list of your chosen items and see if there's any red incompatible notes at the top and bottom notes of the pcpicker.com page. It should all be green to show compatibility. Before you buy, ask the shop you're buying from if it is compatible with your motherboard and cpu. Also, go to the motherboard and cpu websites. Find yours and then check their list of compatible ram. Cheers.
I’m running a 10700k and 64 Gbs ram at 3200 MHz. When I look at system view it says that the ram is running at 1066 MHz. How do I get the most out of my ram
make sure in bios you are running an xmp profile if not you wont get full speeds. you can also go into advanced ram settings and set it up further to overclock it or atleast be sure its at what you should be getting
This didn't help at all,I was doing a research on core voltage modes,and this video doesn't tell if there's an Adaptive core voltage setting or you just get the Manual. I'm kinda buying my next motherboard based on that feature. Even if it's ridiculous,I can't stand Gigabyte not having that option,I had MSI a couple of years back,Z270, and you could overclock using an Adaptive mode. So now I'm going with Asus or MSI,depending if MSI has the adaptive core voltage mode,I know that Asus has it

The Genie is to be turned on only if you have an Intel Optane M.2 unit, not for regular M.2 SSDs.

Set boot drive: It's under Advanced Mode, then Settings-Boot-》 Boot Option Priorities.

I have a Problem : my I9 10900k stuck at 5.1Ghz ALL Core in Gaming. All 10 Cores 5.1 .. why ?! What can i do? Gaming mode is off and no OC activated 😪

Why is xmp profile 2 grayed out?always had asus boards and sometimes used profile 2 but when bought this msi z490 I noticed it's grayed out.thanks
I bought a new mobo. Z490 tomahawk. I never overclocked. But just checking through oc profiles i loaded oc profile 2. I saw that my oc settings changed. Do bios come with preset oc profiles or was i ripped off? This mobo was pre used? Because i never changed or saved any oc settings. Help.

For those wondering how to get your motherboard to see your HDD and SSD through SATA; Switch UEFI to CSM! (If you see this same exact bios screen)
DO NOT do this, CSM is only if you have an OS that doesn't support UEFI. It has nothing to do with HDD or SSD.

It's been two days that I've been searching all over Google worldwide but I haven't figured it out yet
I installed the 10700k + msi Z40m Edge Wifi .... and in idle it always remains at 4.7mhz.
Power saving on Balanced, tried the settings in the BIOS on the C-State etc. etc. Updated BIOS. XMP is enabled or NOT.
CPU ratio there is no item you can select Fixed or Dynamic.
But there is no way to make it go down to 800Mhz in Idle.
Anyone know what it can be ???

Setting cpu voltage to 1.3v? you do know msi auto voltage runs at 1.5v right?
MSI auto voltage is set too high from the factory. You will get a more stable (higher) overclock with 1.3v, and cooler temperatures.

@@spazmatt3000 Fantastic. Yeah I got mine running too, I just booted it a second time with the usb stick in a motherboard usb and not the front panel and it's kicked itself into gear to install windows. Glad yours went well then. Have a nice holiday.

It depends on the silicon quality (golden sample or not) of your cpu, and also on the cooling solution used.

If you have audio connections on the computer case itself, like on the front panel, and their cords have properly been connected to the motherboard in the audio area, then you would want the hd audio set to On. I don't really know about the second question. I'd guess those were two different kinds of hard-drives.

i have a whole different motherboard and have already built it and set it by now. all you do is find where it says xmp profile and set it from disabled to profile 1. it might be docp instead of xmp but its the same pretty much

i just got this motherboard paired with amd ryzen 5 3600x and 16gb of member at 3200mzh, anyone have issue with window installing, it boot up from my usb then when it goes to installing window i would get a pop up error , window encountered unexpeted problem, please reboot i have no been able to install windows, i dont know if there is an incompatible issue with memory or processor issue

almost no gpu is controlled in bios always done in software like afterburner. just dont use the auto settings is all i recommend to most do some research on your card

@@DaveBudness yeah I had a system built with no GPU during launches in hopes to get 3080 or under. 3090 is not worth it in my eyes. Even had a order cancelled on me... but ended up getting 1660 super for little bit then found a 2060 OC for killer price. I keep checking the sites for drops but may wait to see about the 30 supers... sad times even my 2060 is bottleneck of my 10th gen i9 OC build....

I THINK there's a little area on the right lower corner of your windows pc monitor that has a little icon showing internet. If you click that the list should appear of local Wi-Fi in your house and neighborhood. Yours SHOULD be the top one or two. It probably says it's connected (automatically when you turn on your pc.) You can click the name of your own connection and it should offer you the choice of connecting or disconnecting from the internet. You can do this everytime you want to, or set it to connect automatically or manually. Manually is you clicking on it down there in that little corner of your monitor everytime you want to connect to the internet. Then of course with no internet you'd have to use an Ethernet cable to connect to someone else's pc in the house to play with. I THINK.

Check on pcpicker.com. make the entire list of your cpu, cooler, motherboard etc. Then, choose to look for ram. On the left of the choices try to choose a set of 2 x 16 GB. Make sure the ram is for the socket your cpu is. Then see what ram they offer you in the list. You must match the Hz speed to what your motherboard and cpu say they will accept. Choose one that you THINK matches, say add, to the list of items of your build. Then look at the entire list of your chosen items and see if there's any red incompatible notes at the top and bottom notes of the pcpicker.com page. It should all be green to show compatibility. Before you buy, ask the shop you're buying from if it is compatible with your motherboard and cpu. Also, go to the motherboard and cpu websites. Find yours and then check their list of compatible ram. Cheers.

make sure in bios you are running an xmp profile if not you wont get full speeds. you can also go into advanced ram settings and set it up further to overclock it or atleast be sure its at what you should be getting
This didn't help at all,I was doing a research on core voltage modes,and this video doesn't tell if there's an Adaptive core voltage setting or you just get the Manual. I'm kinda buying my next motherboard based on that feature. Even if it's ridiculous,I can't stand Gigabyte not having that option,I had MSI a couple of years back,Z270, and you could overclock using an Adaptive mode.
So now I'm going with Asus or MSI,depending if MSI has the adaptive core voltage mode,I know that Asus has it
