Northern Viking Everyday, this truely the best detailed descriptive video using flashback. Flashing BIOS has its drawbacks depending on Motherboard Manufacturers. Flashing to the latest version without making sure you didn't miss a critical update could render some motherboards useless. It is wiser to flash any BIOS in steps. If your flashing to accept a Quad card or particular update for RAM remember if your not sure a Manufacturers Motherboard includes all updates with each BIOS update I strongly recommend flashing any BIOS in steps when there are many updates listed. Also when you see "CriticalBIOS Updates" that's a sure sign not to pass on those. You can't always go back to BIOS versions missed even if your Motherboard has BIOS protection built in

I remember back then when flashing a bios was risky and would lead to a crash bios if you do something wrong... Things are so easy now. Thanks for the tutorial, it will be useful to make mine compatible with my future CPU.

You make the best videos by far! explaining everything that happens in the process, including the last restart of the motherboard, other videos said something like 'motherboard should turn off after update' and that had me very confused since my MB restarted as happened in your video.
To other video makers: you have to be really careful on what parts you edit or cut in your videos for such important tutorial just for the sake of making the video short or whatever, otherwise don't give instructions on critical processes like bios updates.

For those interested. My PC was running fine for months until I updated my drivers, after witch my PC stared rebooting itself at random intervals. So I decided to update the BIOS to rule out incompatibility issues. Somewhere During the BIOS update something went wrong, as my PC would no-longer boot (didn't even make to to BIOS) It started and got stuck at the DXE Progress Code "98" (Console input devices connect).

Does this create any conflict? I know updating the bios is a very delicate process and I want to make sure of doing it correctly. Also, I'm trying to update the bios because the cpu is always at 60% ~ 100% usage on the task manager despite I only have Google Chrome with only 1 tab opened... I believe it's because of compatability in the bios. Could it also be an issue that I'm connecting half of the cable in cpu1 and the other half on cpu2?

My advice format to FAT32, Make sure you have the correct BIOS and rename it to MSI.ROM and make sure the ram isnt in. Maybe as well reset the CMOS battery / Jump the pins before flashing to reset bios before flashing.
Took me a few trys but thats what i did.. Had me thinking i needed to get ram but my g.skill ram worked all along but was giving me DRAM errors the first go-arounds

Why do so many of these video tutorials for this process advise not installing CPU/RAM first? The manual for this board doesn't imply you shouldn't, just that you don't "need to". I would think if there was a potential problem with doing so, the manual would warn you not yo install a CPU and RAM before flashing the bios with this method.

Hi. which version of bios i must download for Msi Pro Z690-A DDR4 motherboard and 13600kf cpu?
the latest version [7D25v1A] or [7D25v17]?

I typically go with the newest version of the bios, so it's the most up-to-date. Sometimes they are a beta and you may want to go back one version. Usually on the website you can see which version you would need for minimum compatibility.

I’ve just bought these two components recently and I was trying to flash mine and I followed all the steps in the video and mine wouldn’t flash properly. It’ll only flash like 5 times and then it’ll stay solid red. Let me know if it worked for you

Hello, when the light goes out and there is a reset, is it ready?

Yes, and the light will go out. That is around the tiny flash bios button that you pushed. It's pretty dim though.

Yeahhh I'm just gonna get a Z790 for my 13th Gen CPU. Not worth screwing with or messing up the BIOS on a brand new MB. The risk of missing a critical BIOS update or bricking your MB is always there, and I just don't think it's worth it..

I followed all the steps in your video and the light does not stop flashing. I read online that the motherboard can be picky about the flash drive being used. Any tips for me to try?

    • @NorthernVikingEveryday
      @NorthernVikingEveryday  11 месяцев назад

I agree. I would try a smaller and maybe older flash drive. People have had better luck with those.

Without the ability to view what BIOS is on your board how do you know your not going to flash with the same BIOS? Would it cause any problems if you did? Also what about @wayneosman8971 comment regarding critical updates that might have been missed?
