Almost every shooter I've played on the switch, including the Splatoon games, give you an option for gyro aiming, and it feels good in every game I've played, Even if it's at 30 FPS. Although I encountered an issue similar to yours in the switch version of Overwatch. I finally managed to figure it out, though. Turns out that while I was using gyro aiming, aim assist was still on, which can really mess you up. @@Creshex8

The analogue stick is a fundamentally flawed input method for precise adjustments and always has been which is evident by the sheer number of software tricks developers have to implement to mask its shortcomings and make it viable. Gyro-Aiming makes aim assist almost obsolete. Great video.

Analog is great for movement though. I feel like I could eventually adjust to using a mouse to aim, but using a keyboard and spiderwebbing my fingers just feels unnatural.
My ideal setup would honestly be something like the left Joycon paired with a mouse. Either that or a Switch Pro controller with an Xbox controller scheme but with gyro aiming for quick adjustments.
IR aiming is super accurate, but I have a previously fractured elbow and work an office job, so I feel like it would be hell on my right elbow.

Honestly you get used to it after a while. Source games are a pretty good way to get used to keyboard movement. Really just gotta remember that the middle finger is the only one that moves keys when moving. Joystick is definitely nice for analog movement, but both can do well. The advantages of mouse, and keyboard outweigh any cons for shooters. Also it just feels better to have raw input in a game without aim assist.

Fact is that gyro requires some time to be mastered and so some people tend to be discouraged and drop it and say it's useless.
Reality is tho that when you finally get used to it, not only is more precise but also feel so much better, more natural.
Really hope Xbox will do a controller with gyro, the only thing I miss from the gimmick ps5 controller.

    • @caleasthetic
      @caleasthetic 2 года назад +1

that to me is strange. i now it is true for most poeple, but the reason i find it strange is because humans have pointed at things they want all of their lives. In my opion it would be the most intuitive way to play shooters. I only needed 30 minutes to adjust. i was always bad at thumstick aim. so never playes shooters on console all that much. when i plaeyed on pc with mouse and keyboard i missed the analog movement. so gyro is the only way to go for me on console aswell as pc. Sadly the only way to enjoy gyro aim in mst xbox games and ps4 games is a controller called the xim nexus. I translates stick movemtn to gyro on console. Sadly not all games are supported, but there is a way to load a genera config on the controller and adjust from there. Also the drawback is that it will never be as good as mouse like gyro on pc, and for the pc it does not use passthrough. on pc i would use a dualsense or swich controller. or the steamcontroller. Sadly i only have one steam controller and i trie to keep in the best condition as possible. Also the gyro controls are not as good as the fortnite controls jibbsmart worked on. But it is really nice to have the option of gyro on console atleast. Major drawback is that Sony has encrypted the dualsense for ps5 games, so i have to use a beloader pro to use any other controller on those games. I really wish that someone who has a better understanding of gyro would make a solution for console games, something like a good gyro controller).maybe something for jibb smaret to work on?

    • @Creshex8
      @Creshex8 Год назад +4

This is also an argument from gyro haters that I strongly disagree with. If someone says they "feel" like gyro isn't as good as sticks alone... then turn off that stupid aim assist, just like any gyro player can easily do. If they THEN still say sticks still feel better and are easier and better to use for aiming, fine. But the biggest problem with the "I like sticks better" proponents is that they are not giving the sticks the same playing field as gyro users. IE: no aim assist or aim bots.
But we all know the result if that happened. Stick users would be miserable, and gyro users would utterly slaughter them.

The best workaround for these I've found is having a second layer of key-bindings with a layer-altering button, which is fine.

Reason being that it's very important for the user to control when the gyro should engage or not. Since the Switch is the console that has the most gyro controlled games there's a surprising amount of decent 3rd party controllers that have both the Gyro & the Paddle/Grip buttons.

As a keyboard and mouse user who likes the occasional multiplayer shooter, even if I know that realistically even with a disgustingly large amount of aim assist a dual analog user is still going to have a harder time aiming than I would, it still just feels unfair and cheap to watch a kill cam and see all their bullets curve toward me almost like I'm a magnet for death, while I have to take much greater effort to aim right. It's like being in a footrace with someone who started at the finish line, even if they have to use a walker and I can sprint, it just breeds hostility to see them being helped so much when it's supposed to be competitive.

I have discovered gyro aiming when I played The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker HD...
However I really became a huge Gyro Aiming enthusiast since I played The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild on Nintendo Switch !
Even though I'm also a PC gamer and I play Fortnite with Mouse and keyboard, Unless I'm playing on PS5 which has Gyro aiming but I never play on Xbox because of the lack of gyro aiming... Even though Gyro aiming won't let you spin on yourself as quick as a mouse, aiming speed and precision is way above what you could do with a joystick.
Personally, when it comes to single player games, I almost always use Controllers, and Gyro aiming is a huge selling point for me.
Nintendo Switch has a lot of games using this mechanic.
When I played Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 after playing BotW, the lack of gyro really annoyed me...
I tried Steam input to use gyro in any games However, since it's emulating a Keyboard and mouse input with the controller, it's far from perfect... The left joystick simply act as WASD on your keyboard... Which means it's on or off, there is no dynamic speed as we are used to with a controller...
I really hope Xbox will make a Gyro controllers, in the near future, in order to push developers to offer the possibility to use gyro natively in every game where aiming is required

    • @tekgeekster
      @tekgeekster  3 месяца назад +1

Mapping gyro to mouse in games on pc is tricky. How good it will be depends entirely on how the game handles mouse and controller. some games let you use controller and mouse at the same time flawlessly, and those are games you should look for.
Horizon zero dawn doesn't let you combine controller and mouse, so it's gonna be jank.
Gyro can be as fast as mouse. It entirely depends on your setup as well as your flexibility. But if you want an easier way to get more speed out of gyro, combine your movements with the right stick. Using gyro together with the right stick is like manual acceleration.

Can someone please back me up on this point: even if the gyro were a little worse than the mouse (it’s not), I still use it exclusively because it’s FAR more fun to use than a mouse (and I despise aim assisted thumbstick aiming).
The long pull triggers on the Dual Sense means you have to pull the trigger while keeping hands steady. This is especially immersive with the bow in Forbidden West. And the steady handed trigger pull is much like handling a real gun. I love the gyro, but I choose it over a mouse because it’s just so much more fun to use….

Im somebody who got used to both Mouse and Controller very young, and I have to say, Gyro is very intruigeing to me. I havent extensively used it, but mouse and keyboard has a limitation in the sense that any shooter with more options than WASD, run, crouch, and grenades can get really obtuse to play in comparison to controllers with paddles. Reaching your index finger awquardly off the movement keys to press T or H or down to hit C is much more awkward than having all that mapped to every finger and a couple face buttons.
In short, having movement on a stick is pretty huge most of the time as its freeing up 2 extra fingers to assign to other actions, so being able to have that control scheme while not acraficing accuracy seems like a game changer.

This is a great vid. Many people find Sony's expansion of controller features to be "gimmicks" when most of the time, they are absolutely superb and devs fail to properly implement them and embrace them. Gyro aiming is 1 such feature and so is the touchpad. Many of my friends talk about how the touch pad is a poor gimmick then i straight go through a long list of games that use it. They then realize that it actually almost subconsciously plays a key role in adding 5 buttons to your controller that is equivalent to the D-Pad. The amount of use that brings to the controller family is quite immense especially when youre given freedom to map it out. Hell, even simple features like in Days Gone where each direction represent a shortcut key to either, Skills, Inventory, Maps, or Quests. This is tremendously better than having to push start and push about 2 or 3 more buttons to get where you want.
But it all comes down to the devs and how competent plus creative they get with these features. I seriously think EVERY shooter game should have gyro aiming. Shit, imagine Rockstar games like GTA and Red Dead with gyro aim where aiming with controller is not the developers strong suit. Those games have some rough aim mechanics and could desparately use gyro aiming because they are absolutely amazing games that would benefit so much more from it.

I think Sony would be smart to implementing a free version just to show off and allow people to practice gyro aim and normal analogue stick of course to compare. Us players win all around XD

Something like that. They need to make games that not only use the extra features the controller has, but also promote them, and make them kind of a selling point compare to other games. People will wonder what all the fuss is about and give it a try that way.

Its hard to go to other games that fail to implement those features and its easy to see how its a downgrade. And many players talk or advertise to others that Returnal is a must play game to really understand the new gen technology. So its doing well to popularize it.
But sony does have a great line of developers so I expect some expansion into this. I just hope gyro aiming really starts grasping on though. Nintendo has done well to bring in some new life for it with the Switch from what Ive read.

      @@tekgeekster had an interesting thought:
The one thing i commonly see for players that turn away from gyro aim is the "motion sickness" or the fact they are jittery when holding the controller. An idea i had that could be interesting to help remedy this is the implementation of "Deadzones" in gyro aiming.
The way I would look into creating this is based on similarities to dpi on mice for PC. Gyro aiming is similar to those "ball" mice where you rotate a ball to look around except now youre holding that ball in your hands directly. Make a setting so that the first amount of "dots" in dpi are considered the "deadzone." In other words, you have to move the controller beyond that deadzone to actually get the cursor to move on screen. It does not need to be much--literally on the 360 degree plane, just make the first 2 degrees a deadzone. Just enough to curb out maybe 50% of the jitterness that players have with motion controls but not noticeable when players need to actually aim with gyro.
Now controllers dont have a "base" point to go back to like analog sticks do. So this deadzones relative location would be updated periodically. For example, every 1 second when the controller is in a close to stationary position, the deadzone sets itself in the 3D world the controller exists in. It could also be fine tuned to have the deadzone work individually per x, y, and z axis-- in other words if a player is very slightly moving up with gyro aim, x-axis deadzone kicks in to prevent left and right jitters.
Of course, in fast paced games like Halo, these deadzones would not be active all too often since a player is most likely continuously moving. But take a game like Days Gone (that has Gyro Aim) where you are sniping a very long distance, that minor deadzone implementation could help players become more steady on very fine aiming in a slower paced game.
Again, the deadzone application only needs to be very minor. Literally 1 to 2 degrees around the controllers' center point is all that needs to be as a deadzone to probably take out 50% of those jitters.
      Whats your thoughts?

I got introduced to gyro aiming when I was using the steam controller. The steam controller for me was amazing to be able to aim with the stick as well as gyro so I was a hybrid on both to utilize its full advantage. The only problem's that ppl think it's a gimmick, but it helped me get into a lot of scoreboards top in the years to come. I wish it's implemented as a norm in consoles just like the Nintendo switch where i take full advantage of it.

This is going to become the meta for console players. As it should. Because developers dont give the amount of aim assist that stick players once had, before crossplay entered the picture. My only concern is, this will make pretty much EVERYBODY a God, there wont be a skill gap in any game, only whoever is more methodical wins. It might be less rewarding if everyone and their grandma is sick, but I could be wrong.

Joysticks won't be going anywhere. In most cases, they're half the reason gyro works so well. Sticks and gyro complement each other like peanut butter and chocolate.
What needs to change is the overuse of aim assist. It's too strong.
It can't be removed entirely, because people with real handicaps need it to play their games. And because of that, less honest gamers will inevitably exploit it somehow.

All FPS games and Third Person Shooters (TPS) need gyro aiming. There's no reason to not have it as an option. But it needs to be implemented properly with adjustable sensitivity, and the max settings need to be very sensitive to small motions. If it's not sensitive enough, it's useless.

I recently discovered the power of gyro aim when CS:GO got native gyro support as part of its big Steam Deck update. Now I’m a pure ‘Gyro Zealot’. I implement gyro aim in every PC game I play now through steam input. I can’t believe the industry has been sleeping on this tech for over a decade. When implemented properly it closes the gap between controller and KB&M to such a degree that you can get rid of aim assist entirely. Microsoft needs to just bite and introduce a v2 of their Series X controller that has gyro.

As a PC main i would like to add my part to that ancient discussion wether or not Controller or MnK is better.
Let's start with the Pros and Cons:
    - MNK:
    Pros:
    Precision
    Agility
    Versatility
    Con:
hightly dependent on Settings and Deskspace
with the wrong settings and stuff you can actually hurt yourself or destroy stuff
High cost if stuff gets broken, although stuff gets cheaper by time its still a factor.
Ease of cheating due to the fact that PC is the programming platform (DON'T FUCK YOURSELF OVER AND CHEAT; INSTEAD LEARN HOW TO GET BETTER)
    - Controller:
    Pros:
    Versatilitiy
    Comfort
    Agility (if set up correctly)
    Precision (same as Agility)
    Cons:
Needs the same amount of time to get used to it, reason is you use a different set of Muscles and tendens.
Even a very Good controller player can fall down to a Pc player for reason of above. Try to imagine someone who runs with 3 toes on each foot and compare their speed to someone with all five. The difference is in the Balance make out of it what you want.
Needs the same amount of settings to be usefull and yet viable with some help of Game Developer. (aim assist)
Aim assist is overated and leads to a missunderstanding of controller Player who have the skillset to not need an aim assist (some games already tried to turn off AA but if i have to guess they backed out of it due to the fact that console is also a Casual Platform (Same goes to PC btw).
Injuries can still occure but seem to be less frequent (+- Point?)
But how do i come up with such stats?
Ive played ESEA B rank in Counter Strike and placed myself in Onyx after 6 months in H5.
Playing Mcc on Xbox i was able to really feel the difference between aiming in the Same Franchise, just think playing H5 for 12hs a day for 4 months and then boot up h3 good luck buddy XD.
H5 is probably also an arguebly bad example reason being its strong bullet magnetism. But i hope you can understand it.
I think Aim Assist is even sort of healthy for the Console Community so even newer players can pick it up and enjoy the games they play.
Don't get me wrong i understand that if it comes down to Competive Enviroments it can lead to rage filled outbursts.
But i have a question to you, let's say you are Pc player in Apex legends, you see the movement of a Controller Player and determine him/her as such.
Why would you willingly go into Closed combat with them if you know you can out gun them on Range?
What i mean is, both excell in different scenarios and both a completly fine to use.
So use whatever you find fit. Hell i saw players playing Counter strike with their mouth because of Medical Reason on Faceit lvl 10.
I hope it helped having the opinion of someone who is from the other side. (grew up on Pc)
    TLDR:
Both have their advantages and disadvantages and both need practice to get better at. Play with what you are comfortable and stop argueing about the relevance of Aim assist. And to my fellow Pc players, if you rage about Aim Assist you need to fix your decision making and aim.
    GLHF all
    edit: Addition of TLDR

I don't disagree that aim assist needs to exist, but the way it's implemented, especially in games like cod and ESPECIALLY with cross platform play becoming more prominent, it needs to be reinvented and standardized so it's more fair to everyone on different platforms. Rotational aim assist, especially when it's as strong as CODs is kinda bs.
Aim assist shouldn't go anywhere for accessibility sake, but it should be seen as an assistance, and not an aimbot like everyone is complaining about and in some cases, for good reason.
For the same reason, gyro aiming should be a standard too. It's a more accurate and intuitive form of aiming on controller, and it doesn't require aim assist to be accurate so it's more fair.

i have been using gyro controllers for a long time, i love the steam controller, it adds features that i don't see in other controllers, such as a second touch pad and not charging you 180 dollars for a controller with back buttons and no gyroscopic sensor,
i also use a ps4 controller switch pro controller (not joycons because they drift alot).
it really sucks that Microsoft doesn't have a optional add-on for the Xbox controllers that adds a gyro sensor and a dongle that plugs into your computer or Xbox.
or dive in with a new controller that includes the gyro sensor, i would be willing to go and buy that controller if they actually supported gyro.
with all the hours i have played on multiple consoles and PC, i know for a fact that gyro is not a gimmick, in fact far from it.
i normally use keyboard and mouse when i am at my desk, but when i am sitting down on a couch or playing my PC with in home streaming, i use a Xbox controller with my phones gyroscope sensor for aiming in game.
or i use a gyro enabled controller when i am just playing on my tv.
if my play-thru of metro 2033 has anything to say: the steam controller was made for intense shooting games, (in my opinion)

    You play on flick stick?
My control scheme is on traditional, with my L2 trigger being the only thing that activates it, with a unique catch though.
If I hold the L2 trigger semi or half way, the gyro won’t activate, but if I hold it fully (almost) it will, which is useful whenever I want to aim traditionally while strafing.

All you technically need is steam and ps4/5 or switch controller. Steam has its own controller remapping software which I recommend for beginners, but halo mcc is weird in that you need to map all the buttons and sticks to keyboard and mouse buttons. (some games can let you use mouse and controller at the same time).
You can use other people's profiles that emulate popular control schemes like reclaimer. I have one that recreates halo 5's hell jumper control layout. If you need anymore help, check out the gyro discord: discord.gg/JsjBwhB3
