The changes of valve covers for the most part was material. The newest ones are plastic in order to combat the warpage that happened with the older magnesium ones

Actually, yes. Go look in the A4 playlist and you'll see instructions to remove the bumper, then look at the cooling refresh (also on the A4) to see how the front end goes into service position and ultimately removed.
